Sir AgravainWP (サー・アグラヴェインWP, Sā Aguravein?), Class Name unknown, is an unknown class Servant summoned by Goddess Rhongomyniad in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.

Profile[]

Background[]

Agravain, one of the Knights of the Round Table, is the son of Morgan, making him the brother of Gawain, Gareth and Gaheris, and half-brother of Mordred. He was also an assassin employed by Morgan le Fay to serve as one of the knights. Acting as the secretary of the Round Table, he was one of the few to find out the secret of the King's gender. The affair between Lancelot and Guinevere was discovered by him, and he used the secret of the king to threaten the queen. This act was, however, also his undoing, as Agravain was killed by Lancelot, who was overtaken by rage.[1]

Appearance[]

Agravain’s appearance seems befitting of his title “Agravain of the Iron Hand.” He is clad almost entirely in black armor in all of his appearances, along with a dark blue fur-lined cloak draped over his left side. He has slicked-back black hair and pale skin. He spends most of his scenes scowling, and during his duel with Sir Lancelot, he is caked in blood, bearing sharp, fang-like teeth.

Personality[]

Serving on the Round Table, Agravain often advocated more so than the others of the King's inhuman nature. He often pronounced to the other knights that, "The King is not the incarnation of the dragon; his heart is a single dragon. His magical power is of a level beyond ours. I ask you not to seek the same values as ours from one possessing magic like the gods."

He is calm, calculated and even cruel, always going for the best option at hand. He believes his purpose is to assist the appropriate King of Britain, thus despite Morgan's order, he claimed that he helped Artoria willingly, believing her to be the best king Britain could have. He, however, hates women due to Morgan and was shocked to discover Artoria's gender when exposing Guinevere's affair.

When he is about to die, however, he confesses his real wish was to build a perfect kingdom for his king. It wasn't that he served the king for the kingdom, but the kingdom for his king- the only person he doesn't want to be hated by.

Agravain’s loyalty to Artoria provides an interesting contrast with Bedivere’s loyalty to the King of Knights. Bedivere admired Artoria for her compassion towards the common folk of Britain, while Agravain admired her overarching persona as King. Bedivere turned against the Lion King to prevent her from committing atrocities, but Agravain stayed loyal in spite of her new ruthlessness. Although several characters speculate he is planning to betray the Lion King, he remains absolutely loyal to the end, and is enraged by Lancelot’s second betrayal of Artoria.

Role[]

Fate/Grand Order[]

Camelot/Zero[]

Agravain, along with the other Knights of the Round Table, is summoned by the Lion King in the "Camelot" Singularity. The Lion King gives the knights the option to either aid her with her "Holy Selection" or side against her, giving them a half a day to decide. Agravain ultimately chose to side with the Lion King and, along with Lancelot, Gawain, Tristan, Gareth and Mordred, defeated and killed his fellow knights that sided against her, forming the Knights of the Lion King. The Lion King then gave them each a Gift, though Agravain refused to have one, claiming he had no need for one. He also didn't want to completely submit to the Lion King, due to the possibility of having to face her in the future.

Agravain and the other knights then overtook on the "Holy Selection", killing all that stood in their way throughout the Holy Land. They engaged in battle with the False Crusaders, easily defeating them until facing their leader, the Servant calling himself Richard I. The knights were at a disadvantage in the battle, due to the great strength of their opponent, until Gareth grabbed hold of him, restraining him with her own body and giving the others a chance to strike. Agravain prepared to deal the finishing blow, but Gawain attacked before him, killing both Gareth and their opponent. This caused the Holy Land to fall into the hands of the Lion King and her knights, who established the Holy City.[2]

Sixth Singularity: Camelot[]

The Knights in the Lion King's throne room

Agravain and the other Knights at the Lion King's throne room. After the Holy Punishment.

Agravain reports Gawain‘s failure to carry out the Holy Punishment to Goddess Rhongomyniad before she goes to sleep. He tells Gawain to wait in his manor until his punishment is decided, but stops Tristan from executing Gawain to hear his explanation. He wonders if something unforeseen happened, saying circumstances may dictate that Gawain’s punishment be eased. Gawain replies that there were simply two unknown Heroic Spirited mixed in with the crowd, declaring them to not be a threat. Goddess Rhongomyniad then enters the room, wondering if the knights are holding a war council for the desert invasion. Gawain reports to her that two of the three selected were successfully collected, but one was killed. He continues that he lost 12 Enforcement Knights, and over a hundred refugees escaped. The refugees split into two groups: one heading to the mountains; the other joining up with suspicious merchants. Goddess Rhongomyniad blasts him out of the castle and into Camelot’s outer wall as punishment for his failures. Since he survived though, she pardons him.[3]

After Mordred is ordered to return to Camelot’s outskirts, Agravain asks Goddess Rhongomyniad why she doesn’t allow Mordred to stay in the city. He believes it’d better solidify their guard, but Goddess Rhongomyniad calls that unnecessary. Declaring that Mordred’s only use is to roam outside, she orders him to keep her alive until their eventual battle with Ozymandias. She stops Agravain from ordering Mordred to pursue the refugees, considering it unnecessary since they’ll die in the wasteland. She orders them prepare for the battle against Ozymandias, which will begin when Lancelot returns.[3]

After she returns to her room, Tristan asks Agravain if it’s okay not to pursue the refugees. Agravain replies it was the king’s direct order, but Ritsuka’s party, who repelled Gawain, cannot be ignored. He declares Ritsuka’s party to be rebels, and orders for them to be pursued and killed. He considers what happens to the refugees accompanying them as a result to be inevitable. Suspecting Lancelot is currently on his way back to Camelot, Agravain entrusts the pursuit of Ritsuka’s party to him. He orders Tristan to relay this to Lancelot, and to tell him he isn’t allowed to return until Ritsuka’s party is dead.[3]

Agravain confronting Chaldea

Agravain confronting Ritsuka's group.

Later, he comes to the prison fort where Hassan of Serenity is being held to personally torture the First Hassan‘s location out of her. He and his Enforcement Knights enter the torture room after Ritsuka freed Serenity of his “Iron Punishment“ chains. He then orders his knights to kill Ritsuka’s party. As the group become overwhelmed, he asks Xuanzang Sanzang if Goddess Rhongomyniad is wrong, but she isn’t able to answer right away. He then offers her a seat at the Round Table to replace the fallen Gareth. Sanzang admits she is conflicted on who to side with: Goddess Rhongomyniad, Ozymandias, or the Saracens. While she thought Camelot was nice, she cannot agree with the tactics used by the Knights of the Round Table. Agravain replies that the Saracen refugees are free to seek sanctuary in Camelot, and the forces of Camelot will stop warring with them if they give up on the Holy Land. Sanzang then asks why there is an “end” to the Earth at the other side of the desert, which is why she returned. She asks what Goddess Rhongomyniad’s goal is, and if she even is a Heroic Spirit anymore after losing her human heart long ago. Agravain merely sends in special knights modeled after the enraged Lancelot. After the group kills the knights, Agravain confirms he didn’t receive a Gift, as receiving one is akin to becoming Goddess Rhongomyniad’s Servant. That would be inconvenient for him because he wouldn’t be able to do anything to her. He warns that his knights will not stop swarming them, even if he’s killed. He begins to proclaim that the era will be destroyed once Rhongomyniad enters its final phase when he notices Serenity has activated Zabaniya: Delusional Poison Body. Leaving his knights behind, he retreats to Camelot.[1]

Agravain orders Lancelot to help guard the third tower, saying it is vital to protecting the castle when the confrontation with Ozymandias comes. He tries to stop Lancelot from asking Goddess Rhongomyniad about her reasons for destroying the Western Mountain Village with Rhongoymniad, but Goddess Rhongomyniad allows it. Agravain dislikes Lancelot’s implication that he manipulated Goddess Rhongomyniad into launching Rhongomyniad. Goddess Rhongomyniad corrects Lancelot that it was her own decision to destroy the village with Rhongomyniad, doing so because the Tower is nearing its completion, which needs to be done before Solomon enters the next stage of his plan after the Incineration of Humanity. Tristan returns and reports that the eastern village wasn’t destroyed thanks to Arash’s intervention because Lancelot failed to kill him. Lancelot offers to pursue and capture Chaldea before they meet with Ozymandias in order to redeem himself. Agravain orders Gawain to seize Lancelot, saying he’ll be relieved of his duties and confined. Goddess Rhongomyniad however allows Lancelot to pursue and capture Chaldea, ordering him to return before the walls of Camelot manifest.[4]

After Lancelot leaves, Tristan reports he saw Bedivere with Ritsuka’s party. Gawain and Mordred also saw Bedivere, but didn’t report because they didn’t find it worth mentioning. Agravain orders Gawain to return to protecting the main gate. He also wonders if Tristan’s former friendship with Bedivere prevented him from killing him until realizing Tristan wouldn’t be affected by sentiment thanks to his Gift “Reversal“. He then orders him to guard the castle town, and Mordred to continue guarding the city outskirts. He tells Goddess Rhongomyniad to not let Bedivere concern her, but she doesn’t know who that is.[4]

When Chaldea and their allies begin assaulting Camelot, a soldier reports to Agravain that the front gate has been destroyed. Agravain considers it unnecessary for Goddess Rhongomyniad to use Rhongoymniad against the rebels, even with the front gate destroyed, as they still have Tristan and Mordred. He claims the rebels’ momentum is only temporary, and orders the soldier to continue fighting until the sandstorm disappears. The soldier however reports that Lancelot’s unit has routed Mordred’s. When Ritsuka’s party enters the city, Agravain requests Goddess Rhongomyniad to manifest the Tower to create the utopia that she failed to create in Britain. Goddess Rhongomyniad complies with his request and manifests the Tower.[5]

Later, Agravain and Lancelot fight inside the castle. Lancelot accuses Agravain of being a traitor, to which the latter responds with laughter and attacks him. Agravain recounts how his mother, Morgan le Fay, made him a Knight of the Round against his wishes as part of her plan to usurp the throne from Artoria. He agreed, understanding Britain needed a strong king. He used Artoria to extend Britain’s life, even for a little, not caring who was king. Artoria was the best and easier to use than Morgan. He then confesses to his misogyny, misanthropy and his hatred of the emotion of 'love'. He felt relieved that he feared Artoria would resent him, believing her to be a man. However, he felt empty after discovering her true gender when he uncovered Lancelot and Guinevere’s affair. He then continues the fight, furiously declaring that Lancelot has once again betrayed Artoria.[5]

After successfully killing Lancelot, he enters the throne room heavily injured. He tells Goddess Rhongomyniad that the rebels will come soon. He knows she won’t lose against them, but he knows she tends to respect her opponent’s ideals. Confirming her suspicions that his injuries came from fighting a powerful opponent, he apologizes for being unable to show proof of his victory. Goddess Rhongomyniad offers to relieve his pain, but Agravain rejects it to focus on his numerous duties. He quickly realizes that will be impossible though with his injuries. He truly intended to create an ideal utopia for Goddess Rhongomyniad, but that plan has failed. Goddess Rhongomyniad doesn’t blame him, and tells him to rest, saying his workaholic attitude is his one flaw. Agravain replies that it’s nothing to hers.[5]

Final Singularity: Solomon[]

Agravain is amongst the "Camelot" Singularity Servants to assist Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillars.

Other appearances[]

Agravain is mentioned in Garden of Avalon by Kay's story for his noticeable stance on Artoria's humanity and Lancelot's story as one who discovered his secret with Guinevere.

Agravain appears with other Knights of the Round Table in episode 6 of the Fate/Apocrypha anime adaptation when Kairi Sisigou dreams of Mordred's past.

In Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files an image of Agravain appears near Gray when she disables the Restraints of the Round Table on Rhongomyniad.

Abilities[]

Although he rarely fought on the front lines, he gained the moniker "Agravain who knew no wounds" because would always return uninjured whenever he went to battle, no matter the strength of the opponent. He is a very capable fighter, defeating and killing even Lancelot who was summoned as a Saber, but only after drugging himself and boosting his capabilities in a manner similar to Mad Enhancement, and is left mortally wounded afterwards. Agravain is mentioned as being infamous for his capabilities in interrogation and torture, said to be skilled enough to even make a hippopotamus squeal for mercy in the human language. He also possesses chains called the Iron Commandments, that are made to bind others and implied to impose specific "rules". Once the chains are around a target, they cannot escape even if they are a Servant. Furthermore, the chains are "not friendly" to Servants, so they cannot touch them even if it's to free someone else that's bound, though a human is capable of touching them to free someone.[1] It is implied by Xuanzang Sanzang in Fate/Grand Order -The Sacred Round Table Realm Camelot- Wandering; Agateram that his Noble Phantasm involves the acquisition of information, and resisting him is incredibly difficult. The chains can also be used on Enforcement Knights, granting them an effect akin to Mad Enhancement that can be turned on an off at his command. This lead to the creation of his own personal group of Enforcement Knights know as the Hounds of Agravain (アグラヴェインの猟犬?), modeled after a "fool who fled the court after slaying his brethren in a wild rage." Under the power of Mad Enhancement, they "fight like pathetic mad dogs."[5][1]

Agravain qualifies for the Assassin class, however, his class in the Camelot Singularity is unknown. In Camelot; Paladin, however, he is shown possessing skill wielding a halberd, while using his chains to bind opponents in place as well as to launch large chunks of debris at the immobilised enemies. He also create red-and-black spectral Enforcement Knights that soar through the air to attack at targets with their weapons, able to summon hundreds at once.

As part of the Round Table, his attitude earns him general dislike, but he no doubt excels as the king's secretary. Bedivere notes that Camelot's fall accelerated only after his death, and that he may have been the most important person holding the Table together, a sentiment Mash agrees with, as her Saint Graph remembers, causing her to feel that "If this man is around, then the King will be alright".

Agravain refused to receive a Gift from the Lion King. However if he were to have been given one, it would have been Judgment, a suicide attack for evildoers added to his Noble Phantasm that also targets himself[6] suggesting either his previously suggested Noble Phantasm is for more than acquiring information, or he has another, offensive type Noble Phantasm.

Development[]

Agravain was illustrated by Takashi Takeuchi, in Fate/Grand Order.
