Alessandro di CagliostroWP (アレッサンドロ・ディ・カリオストロ?), Class Name Pretender (プリテンダー, Puritendā?), is a Pretender-class Servant summoned as one of the seven Apostles of the Alien World. Working in tangent with fellow Apostles Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty, his purpose is to monitor and guide the unknowing Chaldea Security Organization in their part of the Human Order Revision Incident.
Prior to encountering Chaldea, Cagliostro was summoned in the Imperial Holy Grail War of the Heian-kyō Singularity, pretending to be the Caster-class Servant of Urabe no Suetake.[1] Prior to his True Name Revelation as a Pretender, he possesses the True Name Cagliostro Alter (カリオストロ・オルタ?) and uses the Saint Graph of Avenger in the Wastehole of the Unsalvageable. He is later summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Real name Giuseppe Balsamo (ジュゼッペ・バルサモ?) and also known as Count Cagliostro, Alessandro di Cagliostro was an 18th century occultist. Claiming to be a doctor, a philanthropist, and an expert at Spiritual Evocation and alchemy, he made his debut in the high society of Paris under that pretense. There were even rumors that he was an exiled prince from a kingdom in the east. He was said to have healed the sickly and poor, and given them alms. He is a figure wrapped in mystery, with little known about what he did or didn't actually do.[4] His influence was one of the factors that led to a rising interest in the occult in Europe in the 19th century, forcing the Clock Tower to create the Department of Modern Magecraft Theory at the turn of the 20th century.[5]
In truth, Cagliostro was a fraud who was not even a magus. He had knowledge of many Mysteries, but he had only ever mastered one: eternal youth which came with regeneration as a side effect. He had a great deal of knowledge and was skilled at manipulating people, which is how he earned renown, but he never truly manipulated magecraft. Giuseppe Balsamo is a mysterious character who changes his personality from moment to moment and may not even have a "true identity".[1]
Cagliostro became at some point involved with the Prague Association, and is acquainted with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart through them.[2]
Cagliostro was rumored to be the mastermind of the Diamond Necklace AffairWP involving Marie Antoinette that was intended to discredit the French royal family, though he was found innocent at court. It is unknown if he was truly innocent, but was exiled from Paris after regardless. Cagliostro would later be imprisoned in Rome on the grounds of international conspiracy to topple European dynasties,[1] and was thought to have died in prison in 1795. In truth, survived at least until 1838 and lived to encounter Edmond Dantès.[4] He also met Sherlock Holmes and Helena Blavatsky during their time in Tibet in 1891.[2]
Cagliostro's actions laid the foundation for the French RevolutionWP. Because of this, he was seen by the people as a hero, but feared by the aristocracy, who fabricated much of the information about him to tear down his public image in a vain attempt to halt the oncoming revolution.[1]
Appearance[]
Cagliostro appears as a dignified gentleman with long grey hair and a short beard on his chin. A scar runs over his right, green eye while his left eye is red. He wears dignified clothing indicative of his status as Count which grows more intricate with each Ascension.

Personality[]
Ashiya Douman describes Cagliostro as a "truly fierce and practical Heroic Spirit perfect for a Holy Grail War," contrasting the other Servants of the Imperial Holy Grail War who acted against his framework for the war at times.[6] Marie Antoinette, though she only met him one time, recalled that he was extremely polite but his smile appeared fake and slippery. She agrees with Jeanne d'Arc Alter when she compared him to Douman, who himself is arrogant, vain, and sadistic. Edmond Dantès calls Cagliostro vulgar and that he will pursue his prey no matter how far he has to chase.[4]

Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Heian-kyō: Naraka Mandala[]
Count Cagliostro was summoned by Urabe-no-Suetake in the Imperial Holy Grail War, disguising himself as a Caster like the other Servants in that Grail War. He was defeated by Watanabe-no-Tsuna,[7] but Caster Limbo was impressed by him and turned him into an Apostle of the Alien World. All that remained of Cagliostro after his death was malignant information, which Limbo infected Ritsuka Fujimaru with, essentially making Cagliostro exist inside Fujimaru's subconscious.[1]
Ordeal Call 2 Prologue[]
Greatly displeased the Alien World and the remaining Apostles are seemingly content to let U-Olga Marie remain destroyed, the Count takes the elemental fragments of her Spirit Origin and creates Flare Marie using the Fire U-Piece. Flare Marie proceeded to form the first Presidential Singularity, creating a new version of Olympus.[8]
After Chaldea arrives in the Singularity and are assaulted by Flare Marie, the Count contacts them and rants about how sacrilegious it is to waste a being of such potential as U-Olga Marie. He says even a version of her created from shards of pulverized power is more than enough a force to whittle down all of Chaldea, effectively and assertively wearing down their bodies and hearts. Calling her the forgery of his forge and rage, he proclaims she is the Lostbit of the deceased God and the Element of Fire.[8]
Flare Marie resumes her hostility as a result of his words while he explains that she could be considered the result of necromancy. He says this is a much-needed encore for the tragic god who could not display so much as a fifth of her true power and potential in the South American Lostbelt. He mended all shards of her divine vessel and adjusted them to better highlight their characteristics, asking that she be respectfully addressed as E-Olga Marie and that the forge consumes vast amounts of energy to shape these expensive dolls. He refuses to explain himself further and leaves the Chaldeans to Flare Marie, calling her the star of today's show.[8]
After Flare Marie is destroyed and Mash retrieved the Fire U-Piece, the Count congratulates Chaldea but reminds them that the game has just begun, and that the other Elementals will be forming Presidential Singularities to disrupt Proper Human History, meaning all must be stopped before the true Alien God (the Alien World) can be confronted directly. Essentially, each Elemental is a Presidential Singularity unto herself.[8]
The Count says he is happy for Chaldea and that he made the game as elaborate as possible. Flare Marie was designed for an impactful initial meeting and a reasonable level of challenge. The second E-Olga Marie variant will have the savagery to surpass Chaldea even when they are fully prepared for the battle. The third one will present an overwhelming shock that subverts all preconceived notions. The fourth and final one, however, will be completely beyond even his own ability to predict, stating that she will have been fine-tuned to be an enemy that is utterly impossible to defeat. The Count then excuses himself, stating that the Apostles are very busy.[8]
Waxing Moon Clashing Swords Chronicles[]
The Count is the one behind the Waxing Moon Ritual of the Edo Singularity, and is explicitly copying Douman's efforts in Shimousa and Heian-kyō. Ushi Gozen colludes with him behind Yui Shousetsu's back.
Id: Inescapable Gehenna[]
Edmond Dantès creates a world based on Ritsuka Fujimaru's memories to lure in Cagliostro. Cagliostro inserts himself into the memory world as the vice principal of Fujimaru's high school.
Abilities[]
Although it is said Alessandro di Cagliostro has mastered many schools of magecraft, including Spiritual Evocation and Alchemy,[4] this is not true. Cagliostro does know many Mysteries, but he is not a magus. The only spell he knows gives him eternal youth by way of regeneration,[1] which allowed him to survive to 1891 to meet Sherlock Holmes and Helena Blavatsky despite having supposedly died in 1795.[2] Despite his body's extremely powerful regenerative ability, he cannot survive decapitation.[1]
Cagliostro also seems to possess the ability to apply wicked hexes on his weapons—ones that would kill a non-Heroic Spirit being no matter what after some time.[4] Hassan of the Shining Star seemed to suspect that Cagliostro also applied some sort of Organ Rotting curse on the blades, yet this was neither confirmed nor denied.
Combat[]
In combat, Count Cagliostro wields a sword that gradually becomes ornate in design as he undergoes Ascension and fights with a combination of orthodox sword swings, fencing, and teleportation. While seldom seen, he occasionally throws or dual-wields daggers alongside his sword.
He is also shown to possess extensive knowledge of Eastern martial arts and is capable of incorporating various bare-fisted techniques in battle. In addition, he can manipulate phantom flames, a type of flame that affects the mind, by channeling the power into his sword like a staff. These flames are ineffective against those who have no mind, though they work on machinery as long as they have something that resembles a mind.[1]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Camouflage (EX Rank): Count Cagliostro disguises his existence in a brilliant manner, being able to disguise his class and abilities. A luck check happens after Cagliostro has spent a certain amount of time deceiving his target. If successful, the target believes he is on their side. The target can resist this check, but as it is not a magical effect, anti-magic Skills do not apply.[1]
- Product Construction (Fake) (EX Rank): This Skill is a sublimation of the lore related to the Necklace AffairWP. In order to accomplish his schemes, he creates the necessary items himself. It is an altered Item Construction Skill which makes Cagliostro particularly adept at producing counterfeits and modifying and adjusting existing specs. Using this skill, he managed to turn the fragments of the Alien God and the soulless vessel, U-Olga Marie into becoming the Mechanical Avenger E-Olga Marie by making minor adjustments to the divine fragments of the Alien God he discovered so they could work independently of each other.[1]
- Nemesis of Hero (Fake) (E++ Rank): A Skill which indicates that the Heroic Spirit or Anti-Hero is the arch-enemy that stands in the way of the Hero or another Anti-Hero. Originally, this is a hidden skill often possessed by demonic beasts, dragond, demonic beings, and Anti-Heroes, but this is not the case for the 'Fake' variation. In an untold event in history, Cagliostro had a deep connection and several conflicts with the Count of Monte Cristo. This led him to deeply recognize himself as the "great enemy of the King of the Cavern" and to acquire the Skill. The fact that he was able to ensnare Marie Antoinette also seems to have been a factor in his acquisition of this Skill.[1]
Personal Skills[]
- I am Asherah (EX Rank): A skill which allows for fraud at a supernatural level, allowing Cagliostro to fool royalty, aristocrats, and even real magi.[1]
- Althotas Continuum (C Rank): He is the embodiment of immortality, the profound secret of his childhood teacher, the alchemist Althotas. His kind of immortality is brought forth by super-regeneration, however, and is not considered true immortality.[1]
- Oriental Martial Arts (A+ Rank): Its effects are unknown, though presumably showcases Caliostro's skill in Oriental martial arts.
Noble Phantasms[]
- Rébellion au Monde: Upon activation a whirlpool of Magical Energy sweeps through the surrounding area, accompanied by an illusion of the flames of revolution. It works similar to a Reality Marble with some differences and is accompanied by a special attack against targets of the Lawful alignment. The true power of this Noble Phantasm lies in the "destruction of order". At its full strength, it can twist the concept of order, allowing laws, ethics, norms, and sometimes even the rules of the Holy Grail War to be temporarily rewritten. To operate at its greatest scale and effectiveness, it requires a long period of preparation, behind-the-scenes operations, and resource investment.[1]
Development[]
Cagliostro and Helena Blavatsky were cut from Heian-kyō due to length issues. Kinoko Nasu said Cagliostro may appear later,[7] and he eventually debuted in Ordeal Call.
Creation and Conception[]
Alessandro di Cagliostro was designed by Routo Usagi in Fate/Grand Order.
