Anastasia
Lostbelt

Anastasia Nikolaevna RomanovaWP (アナスタシア・ニコラエヴナ・ロマノヴァ, Anasutashia Nikoraevuna Romanova?) and ViyWP (ヴィイ?), Class Name Caster (キャスター, Kyasutā?), is a Caster-class Servant summoned by Kadoc Zemlupus in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order. Another copy of Anastasia is summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru of Chaldea Security Organization after the events of the Russian Lostbelt.

Profile[]

Identity[]

Anastasia[]

Anastasia was the fourth daughter of Tsar Nikolai IIWP and AlexandraWP of the Imperial House of RomanovWP of RussiaWP.[2][4] Having ruled for around 300 years, Nikolai was the last Romanov to hold tsardom and Anastasia was the last imperial princess of the dynasty.[4][3] Nikolai was a moderate ruler who raised his children with love, but, nurtured under the history of the Tsars, he was ignorant of the world and realities of Russia. Alexandra lived the idealistic life of a noblewoman.[3] Anastasia was recorded as having to be a rambunctious girl who would cause mischief climbing trees but was also known to care for her sickly younger brother AlexeiWP.[2][3] Since her childhood, she heard the voice of Viy, being the proper heir to the family's magecraft rather than her father.[2][4][5]

Despite the moderate rule of Nikolai, the state of the world was in a tumultuous state. The prestige of the Tsar was lowering due to their defeat in the Russo-Japanese WarWP and shooting incidentsWP upon the populace. Though they might have known peace had they not been an Imperial House, revolutionary sentiment was brewing within the populous.[2][3] Due to the ongoing World War IWP causing mass famine, the frustrations of the populace reached a breaking point in 1917, leading to an incident in which a protest left citizens dead. Russian soldiers started a revolt, and the imperial guards sided with them despite martial law being declared in MoscowWP.[4]

Nikolai abdicated after much uproar, causing the Imperial House to fall into disarray. The family was confined to house arrest, leaving little record of that time other than that they still employed servants.[4] They originally may have had the chance to go into exile in Germany, her mother's birthplace, ending in a bloodless revolution. However, rumors spread that Alexandra was having an affair with the monk Grigori Rasputin due to her reliance on him, lowering her already poor reputation and making exile in Germany impossible.[3] In April of 1918, the new administrationWP feared that the Tsar may be reinstated into power by the force of the Czechoslovak LegionWP or White ArmyWP, so they decided to have the family executed. The day before their death, Alexei revealed the existence of Viy and the fairy's role and history to the Imperial household to Anastasia, but she did not make a contract with it.[3] Despite wishing to hold an official trial, they felt the need to push it through due to the apparent threat the Tsar posed and executed the Imperial family and their servants in secret at the Ipatiev HouseWP.[2][3][4]

As Anastasia was dying, she contracted with Viy, not as a means to save her life, but as a means of killing those who wronged her. The soldiers stripped the clothes from her body, chopped her body into pieces, burned her to ash with gasoline, poured sulfuric acid over the bones, and buried the ashes in the ground.[3][5] Retaining some sense of consciousness through Viy throughout the event, she cursed the soldiers such that they would never know peace, stating, "I am watching. Death is too good for you. No, you're going to live in fear for the rest of your lives. I, Viy, will always be watching you. I will forever pass judgment on your sins. I will forever see to your punishment. I will always, always be watching...until the day you die. Always, always, alwaaays!!!"[5]

After the execution, there were rumors that Anastasia had managed to survive, including a girlWP claiming to have been Anastasia, but DNA tests performed on bones discovered decades later disproved such theories.[3][4]

Viy[]

Appearance[]

Anastasia is a beautiful girl, having long white hair and a fringe covering her icy blue eyes. She wears an ornate white gown and a white fur cape with gold designs and blue lining on. She is seen caressing a doll.

Personality[]

Relationships[]

Kadoc Zemlupus
The person who summoned her as a Caster. Her feelings towards him and his feelings towards her are something probably even the two don’t understand. Romantic love, yearning, comradery in arms, familial love, partnership, companionship, and the list goes on.[3]

Role[]

Fate/Grand Order[]

When Kadoc Zemlupus was revived by the Alien God, he made contact with Anastasia's Spirit Origin and contracted her as a Servant. He admits to "twisting" her actual summoning, resulting in the loss of her memories but exponentially increasing her power. Henceforth, Kadoc's Anastasia is regarded as a Lostbelt Servant, distinguished from herself from Proper Human History, who she considers weak.

Second Prologue[]

Czarina and Oprichnik

She is first seen in the snowy mountains presumably just outside of Chaldea commanding the Oprichniki before leading to the assault of Chaldea.[6]

Anastasia: Permafrost Empire[]

Anastasia helps Kadoc in his plan to have replace Ivan the Terrible as the Lostbelt King so Fantasy Tree Orochi can take root, and the Lostbelt can finally expand.[7] Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was brought to the palace to continuously play his Noble Phantasm in order to keep Ivan asleep. Mozart was later replaced by Antonio Salieri when his Spirit Origin started to collapse from two months of endless playing.[8] Anastasia pretends to be Ivan's first wife (with whom she shares a first name with) in order to keep the Tsar complacent.

Ivan asks Anastasia about outside of Russian. Wishing to spread Russia’s glory to the rest of the world, he asks how Europe and the Far East fare. Anastasia lies that Europe has submitted to him, and negotiations in the Far East are progressing. Ivan says however that peace isn’t enough and decides he must unite the world. This prompts Anatasia to order "Mozart" to lull Ivan to sleep.[9]

In the hallway, Kadoc tells Anastasia that they can't let Ivan learn the truth of what's occurring in his Lostbelt and launch a campaign. They must first be certain that the Tsar's rule extends throughout the Lostbelt before they do anything else. He warns Anastasia that "Mozart" isn't enough to keep Ivan pacified when she decides to eliminate the rebels herself. Their conversation is soon interrupted by Grigori Rasputin, whose remarks Anastasia find disrespectful and intolerable to her as a member of the imperial family. Kadoc stops Anastasia from attacking Rasputin. He tells Rasputin to stop following Anastasia, and return to repairing the cathedral to placate Ivan. Rasputin reports Chaldea has arrived, and recommends attacking them immediately. Kadoc replies he cannot leave Ivan's side yet, so he'll leave Chaldea to the Oprichniki and Koyanskaya. He asks Rasputin if he's going to help her, to which the priest replies he cannot stray far from Yaga Moscow out of concern for Ivan's condition. Anastasia tells Kadoc that Koyanskaya has been distributing food to the Yaga at such exorbitant prices that they rob from each other just to afford it. Kadoc orders Rasputin to tell Koyanskaya to watch the major villages, and to eliminate Chaldea when they inevitably stop at one. Rasputin agrees and leaves, advising Kadoc to be more considerate of himself, and to think on where his hostility comes from. Kadoc believes Rasputin meant that he needs to accept that Chaldea are his rivals, believing they just got lucky. Anastasia tells him to accept the fact that he wasn't able to save the world, while Ritsuka and Mash did. She tells him to use this opportunity to show everyone his potential.[9]

Later Kadoc apologizes to Anastasia for the twisted way he summoned her, as it was the only way to ensure she’d be a powerful Heroic Spirit. Anastasia doesn’t mind though, happy to be a Lostbelt Servant. She starts freezing the area as she thinks of killing Ivan following Chaldea and the rebels. Kadoc calms her down, telling her to regulate her magical energy inside the palace. He reminds her they need to keep Ivan asleep for the time being. Anastasia decides she’ll work on her dress, which Kadoc confuses on why she’d do that. She answers it’s for the ball which she’ll throw herself. Kadoc reminds her though that none of the Yaga know how to dance. He then gets worried that Anastasia is planning to dance with him. Anastasia assures him that she was joking about putting on a ball. She then jokes about freezing his feet to the floor if he keeps looking at her like she’s monster.[10]

She wakes up him later to tell him they received a report from the Oprichniki on the frontier. It mentions that they burned down one of the rebels' storehouses. Anastasia says they should figure out what to do with the Servants not with the rebels before they threaten Ivan's rule. Kadoc answers they'll handle them together, and says Rasputin will handle things in the palace. Anastasia decides to get ready, but Kadoc tells her to just go as she is now. Kadoc get annoyed at her for saying he's supposed to send her off with a smile, saying he's all about efficiency. Anastasia responds he can be efficient now by helping her get ready. They then leave to pick what coat she'll wear, much to Kadoc's chagrin.[5]

Anastasia later informs Rasputin (only knowing him by his assumed identity of Metropolitan Macarius) that Ivan wishes to see him. She warns him not to anger him, but Rasputin tells him it’s his role as Macarius to sway Ivan’s decisions with frankness. Anastasia asks what his goal is, to which Rasputin says it’s the same as hers. After he enters Ivan’s room, Anastasia finds it strange that she doesn’t wholly distrust Rasputin. She feels he’ll stay with her and Kadoc until the end, no matter what.[11]

The two later wait for Kirschtaria's inspection. They discuss that Kirschtaria is likely to win the competition between the Crypters' Lostbelts, at least for the time being. Caenis then arrives, pleased to hear Kadoc still has the will to fight. Kadoc tells her they have nothing noteworthy to report, saying everything's going fine. Caenis reminds him that his Lostbelt is the only one where the Fantasy Tree hasn't taken root, let alone sprouted. Kadoc replies it's because Ivan doesn't understand why he needs it yet. Until Ivan understands that, Kadoc will continue laying the groundwork. Caenis understands Kadoc will turn the tables on Ivan when the time comes. She is impressed by his ambitions, so she'll report to Kirschtaria that there's no problem in Russia. She then has Kadoc confirm that Chaldea is in the Lostbelt. She is concerned Kadoc hasn't killed them yet, so she offers to kill them for him. Kadoc rejects her offer, declaring Chaldea came to his Lostbelt, so they're his to deal with as he sees fit. Caenis agrees to let him handle it and leaves the Lostbelt.[12]

Kadoc and Anastasia arrive in Yaga Tula after Ritsuka's party knocked Salieri out. After his Oprichniki are killed, Kadoc calls on Anastasia to kill the group. Salieri eventually wakes up, and unleashes Dio Santissimo Misericordia de mi on her. She blocks it with Viy, and Salieri accuses her and Kadoc of brainwashing him. Kadoc denies this and orders Anastasia to crush Salieri's legs. He protects her however when Avicebron's snow golems attack her. He orders the Oprichniki to follow the group when they escape with Salieri. He then orders the remaining Oprichniki to massacre the town for harboring rebels. He and Anastasia then return to the palace.[13]

Kadoc and Anastasia later with Atalanta Alter, who was convinced to join them in order to save Yaga, in Yaga Moscow for the arrival of Ritsuka's party. The area then suddenly shakes; a Oprichnik reports a Servant is in the southwest district attacking the Oprichniki. Kadoc recognizes it's a diversion, and orders the Oprichniki to ignore it. The Oprichniki refuse to follow that order because they're sword to any who defy Ivan. Kadoc gives in, with the warning they cannot wake Ivan up no matter what.[14]

As Adam is being constructed, Anastasia confronts Patxi and asks him why a Yaga like him could help Chaldea. She assures that he will soon no longer have to fear Ivan, saying the disturbance from Adam's construction will wake the Tsar. This means that Orochi will finally start absorbing mana from the land. Anastasia understands Patxi is afraid at the prospect of Ivan waking up, but she assures him that they'll defeat the Tsar. The Oprichniki ask her if she's betraying Ivan, which confirms by killing them. She declares they've outlived their usefulness now Ivan than is going to wake up. She then tells Patxi that she will be cooperating with Ritsuka's party to defeat Ivan. She also informs him that the Lostbelt will be destroyed if Chaldea is victorious. She then asks Patxi to tell her everything he knows about Ritsuka, suspecting they aren't aware of what will happen.[8]

Once Ivan is fully awakened, Anastasia helps Ritsuka's party fight him. Thanks to assistance from Salieri, Mash, and Miyamoto Musashi, Ritsuka is able to rip Ivan's true body from his mammoth form with Adam.[8] Ivan realizes the Lostbelt will be culled, but Anastasia refuses to let it be so. She declares herself the new tsar, so Ivan fights her to prove her worth. He loses and leaves to speak with Ritsuka. Afterwards, Kadoc tells Rasputin to stop pretending to be Macarius. He informs the unaware Anastasia of Rasputin's True Name, explaining hat he's a Pseudo-Servant possessing a human corpse. Kirei however says Rasputin left his body after Anastasia took the throne. With his connection with Russian, Kirei prepares to leave.[7] Anastasia silently asks him to keep Kadoc safe once she's gone.[15] Kirei accepts her request and leaves. Kadoc asks if he should kill him, considering he is one of Anastasia's greatest enemies. Anastasia says however that Rasputin isn't an enemy. She and Kadoc then leave to usher in her rule.[7]

They arrive at Orochi just after Ivan has disappeared. Kadoc orders Atlanta Alter to kill the others. After Atalanta Alter is killed, Kadoc confirms with Anastasia that she is now the Lostbelt King. Anastasia then uses her newfound powers to let Orochi take root. She and Kadoc then fight the group. After they’re defeated, Kadoc tries to use the Sirius Light to rewrite the Lostbelt. Billy shoots at him, only for Anastasia to shield him. Kadoc tells her she didn’t need to do that as he could’ve remade the Lostbelt with the Sirius Light, so she could’ve won. Anastasia replies that victory stolen on a technicality is no victory at all. She forbids Kadoc from killing himself once she’s gone. She believes he will always do the right thing, no matter his flaws. Kadoc responds that his whole life is full of regrets, which Anastasia tells him to hold on to and live on. Anastasia confesses she protected him because he believed in her. She says he should be honored and disappears, calling him her dear sweet Kadoc.[7]

After the events of the Lostbelt, Chaldea summons another version of Anastasia. The two share no direct memories.

Trinity Metatronius: Courtroom for the Judgment of Mankind[]

Kadoc uses his Sirius Light, a special Command Spell that can do anything, to resummon this Anastasia with her memories of the Russian Lostbelt to serve as a witness during his trial.

Abilities[]

Anastasia is a tragic figure, not a valiant one. Having no barbaric tales of heroism to her name, nor any stories of royalty gone mad, nothing she ever did should have let her become a Heroic Spirit. The only reason she can manifest as a Servant is that she once made a contract with Viy. Although similar to a Demonic Beast, Viy is an Elemental which allows Anastasia to manipulate ice and cold.[13] When summoned in the Russian Lostbelt by Kadoc Zemlupus she is slightly distorted due to coming from the Greater History of Man. She claims to have been internally shifted to be similar to a Yaga despite maintaining her normal external appearance.[16] Having become an existence close to that of a Lostbelt servant, and survived hardships and environments Chaldea can't even imagine, Anastasia acquired a quite formidable Spirit Origin.[6] Furthermore, thanks to Kadoc being a first-class Master, Anastasia is without a doubt a first-class servant. Although Kadoc may not have much Magical Energy, luckily, Casters don't need much in the first place. Even though it would normally take him "a hell of a lot" to supply her so that she can make her workshop or power her Noble Phantasm, Viy makes it possible.[10]

Combat[]

Anastasia is very confident in her abilities, and believes she could have killed Caenis, hadn't Kadoc been there to stop her.[12] She also surpasses Da Vinci in ability despite not getting serious and Ritsuka Fujimaru using Command Spells to further augment Da Vinci's strength. Though Koyanskaya comments that their efforts are useless and that a servant from proper Human History has no chance against one from a Lostbelt, she claims that they did pretty well nonetheless.[6] Anastasia also defeated the main body of Ivan the Terrible after he was weakened due to Chaldea destroying his mammoth. She was also able to fight on par with Beowulf.[7]

After Ivan's death in the Russian Lostbelt, Anastasia assumed Ivan's previous position as the Lostbelt King, gaining his Emergency Prerogative skill, and the special authorities over the Fantasy Tree Orochi. This allowed her to command the tree to properly take root and begin growing, giving her the capability to use it to alter and expand the Lostbelt's domain, though she didn't get the chance to do the latter before her own death.[7]

Skills[]

Class Skills[]

  • Territory Creation (EX Rank): While she is summoned as a Servant, a diameter of a few meters around her functions as a Tsar territory. She can keep expanding this territory by combining this Skills with other Skills.[3]
  • Fairy Contract (A Rank): A contract with Viy, a fairy who lives in Russian lands. Fairies are invisible, but Viy, the fairy contracted to the Romanov Dynasty, is special. He can let third parties see him and even use his powers. Another interpretation is that Viy, being a product of literature, doesn’t actually qualify as fairy.[3]

Personal Skills[]

  • Mystic Eyes of Clairvoyance (D Rank): Mystic Eyes that descended from Balor, in a different de-evolution line as the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. Viy’s ability, not Anastasia’s power. It breaks down any Bounded Field and sometimes can even find a weakness in fortresses. Russian Tsars supposedly fought on sieges under extreme advantage due to receiving this ability from Viy.[3]
  • Schwipsig (B Rank): Anastasia’s past nickname (means “little imp”), while also one of Viy’s abilities. It makes all forms of minor impossibilities possible. It enables small prank-level Marble Phantasms, such as transferring what the opponent is holding to her own hands or opening a crack on the ground and getting the opponent’s foot stuck there. It’s quite the absurd ability, but it’s unable to cause any lethal damage.[3]

Noble Phantasms[]

Anastasia's main Noble Phantasm is Viy Viy Viy, the full release of Viy's Mystic Eyes. At full power, the eyeballs which see through everything can even distort the principle of causality to create a weak point.[3] With it she managed to freeze Chaldea's entire east hall single-handedly. Later on, she headed to the Command Room, where she encased the rest of the facility in solid ice, dropping the temperatures below -100 degrees and rendering Chaldea unusable.[6][4] When fighting Avicebron and Billy the Kid, Kadoc claims that although it may not be the easiest fight for her, she should still have an edge over them. Although this is possible thanks to this Noble Phantasm, once Salieri intervenes and attacks her with his Dio Santissimo Misericordia de mi, Ritsuka's party takes the opportunity to escape. In order to have successfully crushed them, Anastasia would have needed the aid of the priest or more Oprihniki.[13] In the final confrontation against Ivan the Terrible, the combined efforts of Anastasia's Viy Viy Viy and Avicebron's Golem Keter Malkuth were capable of momentarily holding back the Tsar, allowing Salieri and later on Musashi to weaken him with their own Noble Phantasms.[8]

Anastasia's second Noble Phantasm is Sumerki Kremlin, which allows her to make a reproduction of the fortresses (kremlin, or kreml) which are scattered all over Russia. Having inherited the blood of emperors (Tsars), Anastasia can summon an extremely solid and magnificent fortress, employing it to defend herself. Only those chosen by Anastasia can enter the castle.[3]
