ArashWP (アーラシュ, Arāshu?), Class Name Archer (アーチャー, Āchā?), is the Archer-class Servant of Elza Saijo in the First Holy Grail War of Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Sky Silver.

He is summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.

Profile[]

Identity[]

A legendary great hero from Ancient Persia.[2] As a warrior of King ManuchehrWP (the legendary king of Ancient Persia who reigned over a period of 120 years, and the descendant of FereydunWP, the Hero King who did battle against ZahhakWP, the incarnation of the evil dragon Aži Dahāka), who was referred to as the last king of the Age of Gods in West Asia, and as the strongest archer, he brought an end to the war between PersiaWP and TuranWP that had spanned for 60 years.[1][2] The brave warrior of salvation who bestowed peace and tranquility to the people of both countries.[2] He accomplished the great feat of saving thousands of people during battle.[4] He has an anecdote where it is said that in exchange for a special move that exceeds the limits of humans, he ended up perishing by having his body burst and scatter in all directions.[1]

Legend[]

Holydevotion

Holy Devotion (聖なる献身, Seinaru Kenshin?)

According to Persian legend, at the end of the two countries' long-lasting war, the Turan enemy army encircled King Manuchehr's army, and the kings of both countries decided to unite in peace by settling each respective kingdom's boundary lines. That is, someone will climb up Mount DamavandWP and from there, will shoot an arrow towards the east, and that arrow will decide both countries' new boundary lines, from the mountain to the place where the arrow arrives at on the ground. At this time, the one who volunteered was the Persian army's best archer, Arash. During the first moon of the summer, on a nice and clear morning of TirganWP (summer solstice), Arash drew his bow to the limit and shot an arrow to such an extent, it has never been performed before until now. At that moment, it is said that his body scattered in all directions. As told about in many legends, the arrow flew continuously throughout the morning and it is said to have reached the riverbank of the Oxus RiverWP in present day Central Asia at noon, 2500 km apart between the two locations. Thereafter, the invasion of the Mongolian military forces during the 10th Century pushed the Persians southwards as far as that river, and it became the boundary for both countries.[1]

The distance the arrow flew varies according to the record. One story says it flew 1000 leagues (farsakhs), while according to another story, the distance is a forty days walk. In one story, the arrow flew from dawn until noon, while in another story, it is from dawn until sunset.[1]

The name called Arash is conjectured to mean "cheerful" and "honesty" in Ancient Persia.[1] His alias is Arash Kamangir, or "Swift Archer".[1][2] If translated to English, that would be Arash the Archer. In the West Asian society, an "archer" is namely a bringer of tranquility, and that surely points out to Arash.[2] In Iran, it is said that his existence is observed on Tirgan during the summer solstice.[1] Even in modern times, the hero Arash is loved by the people of West Asia.[1][2]

Appearance[]

Arash is described with eyes full of life.[4]

Personality[]

A cheerful hero, abundant with righteousness. Arash often smiles at and encourages people. During peaceful times, he is a man filled with tolerance and kindness, and yet, he is extremely calm during times of battle. Although he is endowed with a composed character sufficient enough to instantly and meticulously calculate the trajectory of his bow and all his arrows and shoot a countless number of them at the battlefield, there are not many cases for this person to display that face to others. A man who does what must be done at a time where it needs to be done. There is no hesitation. There is no distress. No matter what kind of era/place it is, he will surely accept the wishes of everybody who desires peace.[1]

Arash does not double-deal with anybody. Particularly, he is frank from the beginning in regards to his Master. It is improbable for him to betray his Master because, rather than loyalty, he equates him or her as a partner that should be trusted. When talking to someone really close to him, he always keeps a sense of distance to a degree so he does not hit something sensitive and come off as discourteous and impolite.[1]

Arash holds no wish to make on the Holy Grail. He lives as a "hero" to save innocent people, and nothing about him will change from the time when he was alive.[1] Even now, he has not forgotten: how he once lived as a hero who saved the people, how he once waged everything for the sake of the people.[2]

Relationships[]

Ozymandias
"When I look at that Pharaoh...it seems he's taken a liking to the hustle and bustle of Chaldea. Good, good. By the way, have you seen that guy's fortress-shaped Noble Phantasm? No, not the one that he usually drops. A pyramid? No, it's more like the shape of a ship. Yeah, it's best you never see it. It's tough to explain, but that thing's no joke. It's a realm no ordinary human should try stepping into."[5]
A hero of the same age Arash lived in, they mutually recognize each other's existence.[1]
Hassan of Serenity
"Yo! How are you? Assassin...I mean, Missy Serenity. What's that? Nothing's gonna happen even if you try to grab hold of my arm. What? You're surprised your poison really doesn't affect me? Hahaha. How many times have you said that already?"[5]
Assassin is originally an existence that "anybody and everybody cannot touch" as her whole body is a poisonous Noble Phantasm, but Arash is able to exceptionally touch her. That is because poison cannot get through his body.[1] He recognizes her from the Holy Grail War they both fought in, but since Serenity has no memory of it his familiarity with her is a source of confusion for her.
Paracelsus von Hohenheim
"Hey there, Caster Paracelsus. Hm? He just left without saying anything. What's up with that?"[5]
Henry Jekyll and Hyde
"Hmmm... That guy's True Name is Jekyll, right? So looks like he decided to shoulder all that baggage on his own. He's so dedicated, seriously."[5]
Arthur Pendragon
"The King of the Knights from another world...Arthur Pendragon. I'm still not used to calling you by your True Name. Don't you agree, Saber? By the way... How far have you and that girl with the glasses gone? Hahaha, you just looked away, din't you?"[5]
Brynhildr
"Yo, it's the Lady Lancer, the fair Brynhildr! If you've got some time on your hands, how about we have a drink together?"[5]
Sigurd
"So you're the famed Sigurd...the great Norse hero! The rumors were true... Yeah, with looks like yours, I don't blame Lancer for falling in love with you. Nice. All right! Let's have the great heroes of the North and East drink the night away!"[5]
Cú Chulainn
"There's a bunch of different Cú Chulainns... Well, I guess that's Heroic Spirits for you."[5]
Artoria / King Arthur
It seems there is something to think about towards King Arthur, who is like a symbol of the vestiges of the Age of Gods.[1]
Nitocris / Nitocris Alter
'’"Missy Pharaoh! I'm glad to see you're well today!"[5]
Nitocris (Swimsuit)
"What's with that getup? A Medjed? Stop messing with me. You're Missy Pharaoh! Hahahaha."[5]
Hassan of the Cursed Arm
"That Old Man of the Mountain...that's Hassan of the Cursed Arm, right? Unfortunately I don't remember much about him from my past life, and I haven't talked to him much since I've come to Chaldea... But when I do cross paths with him sometimes, my cheeks get all warm. Makes me all happy and nostalgic... Hahaha! What's up with that!? Maybe he and I really would get along!"[5]
Ritsuka Fujimaru
In regards to the Master who is attempting to regain human history, Arash will probably respond to him with all his powers.[2]

Role[]

Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Sky Silver[]

Archer attacked Tatsumi Kitano at Akihabara. He met Lancer there. He made an alliance with Lancer to eliminate Saber.

Before he fought against Rider, he asked Elza what she wanted. Elza said Tatsumi Kitano's wish was "to save Tokyo and the people who live in it."

Knowing of her real wish, Archer fought against Rider to save the city with Saber. He used Stella to break Rider's Ramesseum Tentyris in a combined attack with Saber's Excalibur. They succeeded in eliminating Rider, but he also exhausted his Magical Energy, and due to the properties of his Noble Phantasm, he was going to die. Before Archer disappeared, he showed sadness at not seeing Elza any more and asked Saber "―――What do you wish for from the Holy Grail?"

During Saber's battle with the Beast, Archer appears again in Saber's mind, and encourages Saber to fight.[6] He then becomes one of the Servants who lends Saber his power when Saber activates Excalibur.[7]

Eight years later, a shadow of Archer is seen again as one of Manaka's Grail corrupted Servants, aiming to slay this new war's Archer.

Fate/Grand Order[]

GUDAGUDA Honnouji[]

He appears in this Singularity under the name Matsudaira Arash. Matsudaira finds the Chaldea group spying on Sessai and Imagawa‘s Mini-Nobu when Okita‘s illness alerts him to their presence. After the group defeated him, he prepares to fire Stella, causing the group to flee. Matsudaira then after disappears after his Noble Phantasm ends up eliminating both Imagawa and Sessai along with their army.

Da Vinci and The Seven Counterfeit Heroic Spirits[]

A counterfeit of Arash is created by Jeanne Alter. He's given the role of  "the older childhood friend who's humanities major and lives next door!"

Using counterfeit Siegfried as bait, Arash and counterfeit Arjuna launch an ambush on Ritsuka's party. It is blocked, though, by Mash and EMIYA. After Siegfried disappears, Arash and Arjuna confront the group and explain their roles and Siegfried's. Arjuna then offers not to attack if the group withdraws. Leonardo da Vinci considers it out of concern for Ritsuka’s safety despite being bothered by so many counterfeits being circulated.  But Ritsuka convinces her otherwise, and the group fights Arash and Arjuna. After they’re defeated, Da Vinci speculates their Master resides at an art museum, but neither Archer confirms it before disappearing.

Sixth Singularity: Camelot[]

Arash is aligned with the Hassans, serving as a protector of the Eastern Mountain Village against the Holy City of Camelot's forces.

He stops Hassan of the Cursed Arm from fighting Ritsuka’s party any further due to the former’s injuries. He reminds him how happy he was yesterday to hear that the group rescued the refugees. Cursed Arm replies that was before he knew who the group was. After being convinced by Rushd, he tells Arash to give the group a tour while he prepares a place for them to stay. Arash introduces himself to the group and gives them a tour of the village.[8] Later, he asks Ritsuka and Mash to help him defeat the monsters and bandits roaming around the village. Afterwards at night, he plays with Rushd.[9]

The next day, Cursed Arm asks Arash to fight alongside him against the group to prove their worth as allies. Cursed Arm accepts them after they defeat him and Arash. He is then warned of an attack on the western village. Arash sees the enemy flag depicts a red dragon with red lightning serving its head, signifying it is Mordred‘s unit.[9] Arash explains Mordred designation as Raider Knight means she was given territory in forts outside Camelot. Her unit wanders around slaying enemies, which is the polar opposite of Gawain, the steadfast gatekeeper. Given it would take two days to travel to the western village, Arash launches himself and the others there.[10]

They ambush and kill several of Mordred’s knights when Mordred confronts them. Bedivere fights Mordred, while the others fight her knights. Enraged she is losing despite her Gift, Mordred removes her helmet as her armor rejects her Gift. She prepares to launch Clarent Blood Arthur, but Arash shoots her joints to stop her. He chastises her for wanting to destroy herself just to kill them, wondering if she has any pride as a knight. He tells her to consider this a draw, challenging her to fight him if she considers otherwise. Mordred complies with his first suggestion, given her unit was eliminated. She then retreats, saying she’ll fight the group in Camelot. The village is successfully protected, but Bedivere passes out from the strain.[10]

Arash lays Bedivere down to sleep. Noting Bedivere is physically exhausted with no noticeable wounds, he wishes they had a Servant with medical knowledge. He suspects Airgetlám has a mental toll on Bedivere, not just physical, having heard him crying out for Artoria Pendragon to forgive him in his sleep. Later, the western village's leader, Hassan of the Hundred Faces, asks him to protect the village while she and the others go rescue Hassan of Serenity from a Round Table fort.[11]

When the group returns with Serenity, Xuanzang Sanzang, and Tawara Touta, everyone enjoys a feast at night thanks to Touta’s Inexhaustible Bale. Sanzang makes Arash one of her disciples as she did with Tout. The next morning, the group realizes they’re seriously outmatched in terms of power and numbers. Arash disagrees with Touta that their Servants can match the Knights of the Round, doubting even three of them can defeat one Knight of the Round due to their Gifts. The group recognizes they need someone to fight Gawain since their assault on Camelot will always fail as long as he’s at the front gate. Serenity suggests going to the Shrine of Azrael to ask for the First Hassan, whose location she was tortured for. Cursed Arm agrees with the idea and tells the others to return to the eastern village.[12]

Two days later, they return to the village. Arash stays behind to protect the village despite his interest in the Shrine. He tells Bedivere before he leaves with the others not to force himself. Declaring the Knights of the Round fight the wrong way, he tells Bedivere to make a choice where everyone survives. Bedivere agrees, finding it especially meaningful coming from Arash.[13]

When the village comes under attack, Arash directs the refugees to the cave used for evacuation. He and a villager then go intercept the knights traveling up the road. However, soon his arrows get shot down by Tristan before they can reach the knights. Lancelot then ambushes Arash with Arondight Overload. Arash falls to the bottom of the valley.[14]

Climbing back up, he reunites with the others just after Tristan left, saying Rhongomyniad would destroy the village in five minutes. He tells them to evacuate while he stays behind. He tells Bedivere that his own resolve is nothing compared to his loyalty, also understanding Bedivere can only use Airgetlám once more. It was thanks to his Clairvoyance that he knew the truth about Bedivere. Arash asks Cursed Arm to evacuate everyone to the cave. After everyone is evacuated, Arash prepares to face off against Rhongonymniad. He is shocked to see that Touta stayed behind to bear witness. He then uses Stella to counter Rhongomyniad, disappearing as a result.[12]

Final Singularity: Solomon[]

Arash is amongst the "Camelot" Singularity Servants to aid Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillars.[15]

Abilities[]

Arash claims to be a minor Heroic Spirit,[15] however, he is compared by Saber to Sir Tristan, a man whose skill allowed him to easily surpass the limits of a bow as if it was simply natural. Archer can shoot salvos of up to twenty arrows at the same time and each of these has enough power to easily shatter boulders. However, between each of these barrages, a very small pause occurs. He is also seen to launch a much greater barrage if he makes a more extended pause.

Arash has a special move from when he was alive which he would be able to momentarily invoke by effectively using his Bow and Arrow Creation Skill without preparing a large number of arrows beforehand. He can release 10,000 arrows that could fill even the sky, and it would be expected that he could’ve killed all of the people who remained in night-time Akihabara with these hands. Even the structures in the middle of Akihabara would be destroyed from the barrage if Arash does not make any adjustments in his aiming.[16]

Skills[]

Class Skills[]

  • Magic Resistance (C Rank): Cancel spells with a chant below two verses. Cannot defend against magecraft on the level of greater magecraft and Greater Rituals.[1][2]

Personal Skills[]

  • Robust Health (EX Rank): A Skill that is made up of anecdotes of "not receiving a wound on the battlefield" and "never becoming sick even once since birth".[1] It is also a composite Skill and includes Poison Resistance and a boost in stamina.[1][2] Arash who is strongly endowed with the vestiges of the Age of Gods was born with especially robust health. END parameter is ranked up and attacks received have their damage reduced.[1] Thanks to this skill, Arash is durable enough to survive a sneak attack of Lancelot's Arondight Overload and despite it causing him great injuries, he was still able to climb up from the bottom of the valley to reach the Hassan village and fire his Noble Phantasm.[17]
  • Bow and Arrow Creation (A Rank): The goddess ArmaitiWP gave him wisdom but the designer and the creator of the bow was Arash. As long as he has the materials, he can instantly make a bow and arrows. A bow needs physical materials; however, arrows can be made by using his magical energy. Because of this, Arash can intermittently fire a countless number of arrows.[1]

Noble Phantasm[]

His Noble Phantasm is Stella, the "Ultimate Shot" that employs all of Arash's might. It is a maximum range, a long-range attack that literally "Divides the Earth", bringing an end to all kinds of strife. Its aggregate amount of pure energy is comparable to even an Anti-Fortress Noble Phantasm. In exchange for this great power, this Noble Phantasms can only be employed once for its usage always results in Arash's death, simultaneously destroying him and the Noble Phantasm, and in a sense, it is a "Double Broken Phantasm".[1][2]

This attack is strong enough to deflect the Lion King's Holy Judgement. After witnessing Arash's final moments, Tawara Touta claimed that few may have shot down the stars, but none have the divine skill to obliterate them. It was a shot as if Hachiman, the God of Archery and War, dwelled within it.[17]

Forms and Alternate Versions[]

Blackened[]

Prototypeblackened

Archer is revived by Manaka Sajyou in the Second Tokyo Holy Grail War in a blackened form.

Development[]

Creation and Conception[]

Tristan, one of King Arthur's knights, was originally considered as Archer in Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Sky Silver, but another hero was decided upon. Arash is compared to Tristan by Arthur a few times in the story.[18]

Arash was illustrated by BLACK in Fate/Grand Order.[1][2] His scenario writer is Hikaru Sakurai in Fate/Grand Order.[1]

Comments from Illustrator[]

"The great hero from Persian mythology… at least that’s what he was supposed to be, but everyone tells me he looks like a background character (sweats). At the time I still didn’t how to draw characters for smartphone games, so I was trying a lot of different ideas and ended up thinking too much about his rarity when I designed him. Despite this, he got the Self-Destruct Noble Phantasm and was promoted to a Sougin no Fragments character. Thank you everyone, specially Sakurai-san and Nakahara-san. Although I’m saying all this, I really liked the design for the armor and weapons. I like thinking about the balance between lame and cool and about making things visually memorable when I design characters. I designed the bow in a way you could feel like he cut down some holy tree to make it. By the way, the first idea for his Noble Phantasm was making the bow grow giant, but it got cut for several reasons (laughs)." (BLACK)[1]
