The Archetype (アーキタイプ, Ākitaipu?) is a term utilized in the World of Magecraft to describe the brain of a planet. For Earth, this being is called Archetype: Earth (アーキタイプ: アース, Ākitaipu: Āsu?).
The concept of the Archetype is related to Ultimate Ones, essentially acting as stages in a planetary life cycle.
Characteristics[]
Archetypes, with limited exceptions, should be the only beings on the planet that have direct memories of the ancient past,[1] to know the history of life long before mankind was even born. The Archetype is born from the Inner Sea of the Planet, and is the being later set to inherit the planet's memories - the sights it cannot forget, as the one constantly dreaming of the planet's surface, the one known as an incredible "Recorder". The Archetype is created in the likeness of the planet's current Prime Species.[2]
Mash Kyrielight posits that Kukulkan of the South American Lostbelt could be called Archetype: Mictlan (アーキタイプ:ミクトラン, Ākitaipu: Mikutoran?), created not by the planet but by Malla to be their representative for Mictlan, which could work if you count meteors as a celestial body and capable of having a "brain".[2]
An Archetype begins its existence as an entity with the potential to become the Soul of a Planet. Planet Eggs are simply immature planets, formed from a million years of collecting gas and interstellar dust alongside elements such as carbon, oxygen, hydrogen and helium. This process is not special and happens more than there are births per day in civilisation. In the presence of a suitable Planet Egg - one with the correct conditions to produce intelligent life such as correct planet core temperature, developed enough solar system to give it orbit, neighbour planets to be fated to clash, whether nearby galaxies are in too close proximity, and a soul that nurtures life - it merges with the egg and initiates the development of a Prime Species, with the Soul of the Planet becoming the heart of the celestial body, becoming the Archetype: the model of genesis. Initially it lacks a corporeal form, but as the Prime Species develops their dreams provide a framework for the Archetype to develop an "image" based on how they envision it to look like. When the Prime Species reaches the apex of their civilization, the Archetype then gains the ability to form a shape of its own, maturing into an Ultimate One.[3]
Eventually, either unknown circumstances lead to the spontaneous generation of a new Archetype on the planet or the Prime Species constructs an Archetype directly. An Archetype is synonymous with the final Prime Species of the planet. A Prime Species creating one means they've created the next generation of Prime Species, but in doing so make themselves obsolete.[4] When this happens, the Prime Species' purpose for existence is complete (and therefore it is no longer considered to be one), and as their final task is that they must awaken the new Archetype by collectively accepting they are no longer the Prime Species, and send the Archetype into space so the cycle can start anew.[5][6][7] Likewise, once a species is no longer is the Prime Species, eventually a new Prime Species will rise on the planet to repeat it. However, in Earth's case, Humanity is independent of nature instead of coexisting, receiving the benefits of the planet while damaging it and plundering its resources to achieve longevity that outlast the planet. From these actions, even if the planet doesn't die from us, no new Prime Species shall rise afterwards due to the damage to its "outer skin", something the planet considers an act of evil and causes beings such as the True Ancestors and the Archetype: Earth to hate Humanity to their core and the world to act to protect itself from humans.[8]
A Prime Species making an Archetype may remove their status as Prime Species, but that doesn't necessitate their species demise. If a Prime Species dies out without an Archetype appearing, that isn't a problem. But to rebel against the Prime Species succession when an Archetype is already born is a cardinal sin, hence why the timeline of Moon Dubai was designated to be pruned as the collective unconscious of Mankind was rejecting the very notion that they weren't the Prime Species any longer.[9][6]
