Ashiya DoumanWP (蘆屋 道満WP, Ashiya Dōman?), Class Name Alter Ego (アルターエゴ, Arutā Ego?), is an Alter Ego-class High-Servant working as one of the seven apostles of the Alien World in the Lostbelts of Fate/Grand Order. Working with fellow Alter Egos Rasputin and Muramasa, their purpose is to monitor and lead the Crypters in their part of the Human Order Revision Incident and facilitate the advent of the Alien God. He is also summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru.
Profile[]
Identity[]
A Buddhist Onmyoudou in the Heian periodWP known as the rival of Abe-no-Seimei. He was called Douma Houshi (道摩法師?) or Sangha Douman (僧道満?), and given the title of Beautiful Carnivore, the All-Ridiculing (美しき肉食獣?). As a Buddhist priest, he was essentially an enemy of the government, and while initially having a cooperative relationship with Seimei from the Bureau of Onmyou, Douman later came to view them as enemies to frequently oppose. He was known for plots such as cursing Fujiwara no Michinaga with the help of Fujiwara no AkimitsuWP. As it was a time of great mystery, the clashes between the two considered the greatest masters of spells was said to be astounding. Legends even speak of Douman having died several times, but he had mastered pseudo-immortality through learning the secret arts of Hakudou Jounin.[1]
Ascending to the Throne of Heroes, he was known as a Anti-Hero who unscrupulously harmed people and whose death lead society to peace and tranquillity. Alter Ego Douman, or Alter Ego Limbo, summoned by the Alien God was no longer exactly the same existence as the living Ashiya Douman, so he was described as a "caricaturized aspect of the existing Ashiya Douman." While he was not a complete representation of the living Ashiya Douman, the accounts of Murasaki Shikibu implied they shared much of the same inhuman nature and untrustworthiness. He modified himself into a High-Servant by incorporating three component spirits into his Saint Graph. After being defeated and summoned to Chaldea Security Organization, he feigned ignorance, behaving as if he remembered nothing of his prior activities and acting confused over his Alter Ego Saint Graph. As he was in reality summoned with the records of having antagonized Chaldea, it was unknown if it was a karmic bond tying his fate to Chaldea, the Proper Human History summoning him without taking history into account, or even the wish of Douman himself despite there being no confirmation of summonings being influenced by the wills of Heroic Spirits.[1]
Components[]
When he materialized as an Alter Ego, he embedded two Divine Spirits and an evil spirit into his Spirit Origin and turned himself into a High-Servant.[1]
Itzpapalotl[]
The first component of Ashiya Douman is the Aztec Goddess Itzpapalotl.[1]
In the Heian-kyō Singularity, Iztapapalotl is the sixth Hasshoujin summoned by Limbo and embed with the karma of one of the original general god; Daishogun.
Chernobog[]
The second component of Ashiya Douman is Chernobog, the evil god of Slavic mythology.[1]
In the Heian-kyō Singularity, Chernobogis the seventh Hasshoujin summoned by Limbo and embed with the karma of one of the original general god; Daion.
Safu[]
The third component of Ashiya Douman is the vengeful spirit of Heian Japan, the Evil Spirit Left MinisterWP (悪霊左府, Akuryō-safu?).[1]
Appearance[]
Douman is described as having "eyes like polished obsidians," "face constantly wearing a smile cruel to the point of perfection," and a "body so fierce that it could tear his enemies apart barehanded, if needed." He is a like a "Youkai Beast in human shape, who manages to leave an impression of beauty on those who behold them."[1]
Personality[]
He is described as a voracious, carnivorous beast whose voice is akin to a ghost of an evil king who devours gods, rips them apart, and makes their flesh his own. An ego guided by a greater existence, whose core brims with evil and malice.[3] He is highly sadistic, offering aid to restore the memories of Kato Danzo simply because he would not draw satisfaction from murdering her loved ones if she did not remember them. He is also quite arrogant, vainly assuming he can easily defeat Musashi, Ritsuka and company only to contort his face in ugly fashion and rant furiously when he is defeated.

Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Subspecies Singularity III: Shimosa[]
Douman was sent to Shimosa by the God of a Distant Star to search for the missing history.[3] There he met Amakusa Shirou Tokisada, who was directed there by the same being. He infused the Heroic Spirits Amakusa Shirou summoned at Katori Shrine with the Curse of Annihilation to make them into the Heroic Spirit Swordmasters, including himself.[5] He unintentionally failed to infuse Houzouin Inshun with the curse though. He also infused Yagyuu Munenori, the only human Swordmaster, with the curse.[6]
The Swordmasters were then instructed by Amakusa Shirou to kill everyone in Shimosa. Both their souls and the grieving souls of those they slaughter will serve as the foundation of Onriedo Castle.[5] Once it is constructed, Amakusa Shirou will sacrifice one of Tokugawa blood to it. The sacrifice will serve as the perfect catalyst to cast a far-ranging multilayered curse on the Tokugawa regime to achieve Amakusa Shirou's ultimate goal.[7]
At some point, he found the abandoned Katou Danzou whose body broke down from lack of magical energy. He repaired her body, but also altered her mental records to have her serve him. He also imbued her with a sorcery that recreates the Curse of Annihilation's karma through machinery.[7]
At Katori Shrine, he and Amakusa Shirou both note they’re missing Inshun as the Swordmasters must number seven. Then, on Amakusa Shirou’s command, he turns day into the blood moon night. He joins the other Swordmasters when they confront Ritsuka’s party as they tried to cut through a bamboo forest to reach Onui and Tasuke‘s hermitage. He introduces himself and his fellows as the Six Heroic Spirit Swordmasters, declaring they were summoned to transform the world into hell. Introducing himself as Caster of Limbo, he casts fire at Miyamoto Musashi, but she slashes it away. Soon afterwards, Douman and the Swordmasters watch Inshun fight Munenori alone to let the others escape. He then infuses him with Curse of Annihilation on Munenori’s command to turn him into the final Swordmaster: Lancer of Purgatorio.[8]
Later, he reports that Inshun is gone, blaming it on his incomplete summoning. However, he is pleased that he fulfilled his role as a Swordmaster. Munenori disagrees, considering Inshun a failure for failing to take even a hundred lives. Despite that though, Amakusa Shirou says Inshun still served as an excellent cornerstone for the Onriedo. Douma agrees with him and Munenori, saying the souls of Heroic Spirits are insufficient to manifest the Onriedo. Thus, the grieving souls slaughtered by the Swordmasters are also needed. After Amakusa Shirou leaves to prepare for the Onriedo’s arrival, Douman and Munenori both agree he doesn’t see Musashi as a threat. He then orders Danzou to sick Tomoe Gozen on Musashi. He also orders her to closely observe a group of samurai from Edo that’ll soon arrive in Toke Castle by pretending to be on a secret mission from the Shogunate. Once he determines everything is set, Danzou will bring Tomoe and Musashi together, and witness what comes next.[5]
Danzou later reports to him that Tomoe is heading northward toward Toke Castle Town as she massacres village after village. Douman contacts her when she is about to use her technique to stop Tomoe. Hearing she is unresponsive to Danzou’s words, he is concerned Tomoe will incinerate Onriedo’s foundations again, like she did in Hitachi. It is thus decided that she will be removed along with Ritsuka’s party.[9]
After Mochizuki Chiyome's second attack on Toke Castle, Douman reports she and Danzou have laid the groundwork for the Onriedo by spreading fear. Munenori adds the great pentagram being drawn in secret via Jesuit sorcery is nearing completion. Amakusa Shirou tells them that Chiyome needs to be removed now that she has spread fear amongst the populace.[10] At a later point, he ordered Minamoto-no-Raikou and Shuten-douji to kidnap Onui and Tasuke.[11]
Later outside Toke Castle town, Douman turns day into the blood moon night on Amakusa Shirou's order. Amakusa Shirou then uses the souls of five Swordmasters and their victims to transform Toke Castle into Onriedo Castle. Townsfolk are randomly turned into monsters and kill those who weren't turned due to Caster's sorcery. For those who lack resistance to magic have their human norms turned to bestial urges and begin eating other humans.[7]
He confronts Ritsuka’s party after Danzou lead them to the Onriedo Castle’s courtyard, mocking Danzou for thinking she led the group of her own volition. He reveals what he did to her when he found her broken body. Then he introduces himself as Abe-no-Seimei to the group’s disbelief. Musashi attacks him, but a barrier stops her. Danzou also tries to attack her from behind, but Fuuma Kotarou stops her. Danzou realizes Douman has been controlling her actions the whole time. Douman then calls the monsters that he’s been keeping at bay. He also has Danzou fight the group. After Danzou self-destructs and destroys Musashi’s eye, he confirms Senji Muramasa‘s suspicions that Musashi’s eye can’t be repaired due to the curse he imbued in Danzou. He then blocks a slash from Musashi that would’ve beheaded him and summons more monsters. Imparted with the first Kotarou’s magical energy from Danzou, Kotarou helps to slay the monsters. Afterwards, Douman casts Curse of Annihilation on Musashi to transform her into a Swordmaster. However to his utter disbelief, Ritsuka removes it with the Mystic Code Rain of Isis. To further add to his confusion, Musashi cuts through his multi-layered barrier. Enraged, he brings them to bloody battlefield and summons the great spirit of the Souma clan to fight on his behalf. He is left baffled when Musashi proves victorious against the spirit. Kotarou takes advantage of this to wound him to Douman’s disbelief since Myoujingiri Muramasa should be the only blade capable of harming him. He is further baffled by Kotarou saying it was thanks to Danzou passing her will onto him. Kotarou then seemingly finishes him off.[7]
Still alive, Douman tries to ambush Musashi when she and the others reach the 4th floor. However before either can do anything, Munenori presumably kills him.[6]
At the end, Douman is shown to be alive once again, enraged all of his machinations to destroy Shimosa have ended. After calming himself, he claims that, even if he failed to invade Chaldea, he has successful in finding the lost history. He asks “Satan” if they find all of this fascinating. Though “Satan” was a temporary name meant as a joke, Douman admits he took it too far because Amakusa Shirou liked the name. He then sincerely apologizes to ■■■■■■■■■.[3]
SIN: Synchronized Intellect Nation[]
It was stated by Koyanskaya that Douman had found something interesting in the Indian Lostbelt, so it's unlikely he would budge for a while.[12]
Yuga Kshetra: Saṃsāra of Genesis and Terminus[]
At some moment, he appeared in the Indian Lostbelt and convinced God Arjuna to accelerate the Maha Yuga in order to attain the flawless world the Lostbelt King seeks. He also helped him in summoning servants who, upon receiving divine authorities, they became Arjuna's Divine Generals.[13]
He is seen alongside Koyanskaya, amused at the way Black Final God remakes the world, stating that no matter how many times he experiences it, he always finds it fascinating. In response to Koyanskaya's comment about how sluggish it was because Chaldea could escape from it, he warns her about trying to provoke God's wrath: even they wouldn't be able to escape if Arjuna deemed as unnecessary in the next cycle. He finishes expressing his wish of seeing the perfection that God is slowly reaching through the Yugas.[13] Later, when the Priestess appeared next to him and he was somehow told about Koyanskaya's actions, Douman advises Arjuna about taking actions against her before it could develop into a danger to his world.[14]
After noticing Nezha's disappearance, Limbo is displeased for losing a pawn. He decides to summon another Heroic Spirit to replace the previous Lokapala, but Arjuna tells him that it is not necessary; the end of the Mahayuga is near. Limbo flatters Arjuna, claiming that his actions of speeding up the cycle will bring him the world beffiting of a perfect god and that it only takes a few cycles to reach the expected result. Asclepius, annoyed by Ashiya's monologue, asks him not to deviate from the main topic about Nezha. As the doctor prepares to leave, God Arjuna stops him, saying that he has to tell them something. Limbo finds this curious, wondering if there is still a fragment of humanity in the final god.[15]
While Arjuna is preparing his Noble Phantasm, Limbo comments that this time Chaldea will not be able to escape from it. William Tell shows before them, annoyed with God Arjuna for erasing his memories. This act of insubordination is considered evil, so Arjuna decides to eliminate it for the next cycle. Limbo agrees with the god, since it is necessary to eradicate all the imperfect aspects and he doubt that William can be an ally once again. When Tell decides to release his Noble Phantasm to shoot Arjuna, Douman commits the futility of his actions against a god, but is shocked to see the arrow hit Arjuna. Recognizing him as a Noble Phantasm who distorts the casuality to sucessfully hit the target, he knows that even if he failed to harm Arjuna, it would be enough to distract him and give Chaldea time to escape. William mocks Limbo's silence after realizing it, proud to know that his rebellious actions were not in vain.[16]
Limbo managed to pinpoint Chaldea's goal: the Sky Stone, so he recommends Arjuna to strike them down from the heavens, but he is puzzled to learn the god has no idea about that structure, since he never noticed it, leaving Douman wondering why that stone is in the lostbelt.[17]
Arjuna and Limbo decide to descend on the Sky Stone, intercepting Chaldea. Limbo is recognized by Ritsuka and Holmes as the caster who spread chaos in Shimousa. Sherlock ask him if he is the famous Abe-no-Seimei and if he is one of the Alien God's apostles. Limbo confess he is indeed one of it's servants and he was indeed the one who caused havoc in the pseudo-singularity, but he clarifies that he doesn't want to be mistaken for such a despicable onmyouji as Abe. He realizes that Koyanskaya is no longer on Chaldea's team so, although he cannot forgive her actions of siding with Chaldea, he won't inform his master about her whims. He tells that, even his body isn't suited for combat, he won't let Chaldea to reach Arjuna, less when his goal is so close. At some point of the fight, Arjuna began to lose his composure due to Karna, forcing Limbo to intervene to ask him to calm down, since the power of a perfect god is still necessary. Pointing that the time of the finale is near, Arjuna and Limbo decide to head to the Fantasy Tree.[18]
Before the final fight, after hearing the argument between Karna and Arjuna, Limbo decides there has been enough blasphemies against god and that it is time to accomplish his goals. Upon referring to the Fantasy Tree as the Empty Rhetoric Tree, he commands Spiral to activate and bloom so God Arjuna can make use of it's vast energy to defeat Chaldea's renmants. While Karna and Arjuna are fighting, Limbo remains near the Tree watching from afar. He decides it's time to end the fight by tarjeting and disposing of the Master of Chaldea, but before he can make a move, he is suddenly attacked. Douman recognizes the one behind the attack: Asclepius, who managed to resurrect himself in a state prior to being given the divine autorithies. The god of the medicine comments how much he is disgusted by Douman's actions, comparing him to a tumor who latches onto everyone to use them for his own sake, so he, as doctor, have the responsability to get rid of him before engaging the onmyouji in a battle.[18]
After the fight, Peperoncino manages to notice Limbo's actual state, asking him if he was at least trying. He already realized Douman's body wasn't the real one but his Saint Graph engraved on a shikigami clone. Douman replies the tree has failed, so he doesn't have business in the Indian Lostbelt anymore. Peperoncino ask him about his alliance, to which the onmyouji answer they aren't enemies as long they have the same goal. Bidding his farewell, he turned his shikigami body into dust.[18]
Olympus: Interstellar Mountainous City[]
Douman and Rasputin were called by Zeus to a meeting, to check on the Fantasy Tree's status. As Zeus finishes, Douman stated that the Tree in the Atlantic Lostbelt is growing abnormally but is also far more stable than the tree in India. He feels happy about this, claiming that it won't be long until the advent of the Alien God. This upsets Aphrodite, who finds it disrespectful, as Douman is talking about another god before the mighty Zeus. Limbo proceeds to make fun of her, angering her further. He is unfazed about the goddess' intent of attacking him, pointing at the fact even the most beautiful of the goddess is bound to listen and obey Wodime. Rasputin intervenes to stop him, telling him to behave himself, reminding him of the fact that he failed on his duty back in the Indian Lostbelt. Douman then sarcastically apologizes to ease the mood. As a proof of his sincere apologies, he brutally punishes himself, to Hera's surprise.
Later on, Zeus claims that the Greek gods rely on the Fantasy Tree to thrive. The onmyouji affirms that as long as they nurture the Tree until its maturity, he couldn't care less about their goals. He asks Zeus if he truly thinks he can overcome the Tree, to which the latter admits that it is a problem beyond his limitations, as he made a pact with Kirschtaria.[19]
In the second meeting, when Demeter was given the authorization to use her Aletheia to annihilate Chaldea, Limbo laughs at her swearing on her daughter's name, telling her she will never suceed. Rasputin tries to correct him before the gods by saying what Limbo meant to say is there is not point for the alteregos to be in the meeting if they aren't allowed to act.[20]
At the third meeting, Douman mocks the gods again, saying that it must be pitiful that one of the Olympians has been defeated by mere humans. Rasputin steps in once again to tell him to behave himself. The priest tells him that, as the emissaries of the Alien God, the only concern should be the Fantasy Tree, so how the affairs of the lostbelt are handled is the decision of the inhabitants, not theirs.[21]
At some point Limbo starts to suspect about Hera, so he decides to tamper her outfits via spells to listen her conversations remotely and track her location. Having confirmation of the place that Chaldea uses as a refuge, he and the Dioscuri storm the place. Prometheus is surprised to learn about a servant who can peep upon his workshop without him noticing it, asking Limbo if he really is a proper heroic spirit, to which Douman replies that his techniques are blessings from his god. When Minerva tries to stop the Dioscuri, Limbo effortlessly destroys it, saying that he is already used to crush automatas, and that in the same way he will take care of the god of wisdom and forging, casting a spell that corrode Prometeus' brain unit. Ritsuka tries to undo Douman's spell through Mystic Codes, but he warns him that without Command Spells, it won't be easy to shatter it. Hera pleads him to stop, since Prometheus is necessary to keep Olympus. Limbo proceeds to kidnap her, letting it be known that he was sent by Zeus to bring her before him and that she can answer for her betrayal before disappearing with her.[22]
Douman brings the divine consort before Zeus so her punishment can begin. After Rasputin lets him know that he is interfering excessively in the affairs of the lostbelt, the Chief God asks both alteregos to leave the Altar.[23]
In the crypters' meeting room, when Kadoc is trying to deduce the truth about the Alien God, Douman suddenly appears before him. He expresses his admiration towards Kadoc for reaching to a good conclusion with only a bit of messy data left by his fellow crypters. Claiming that Kadoc is awfully close to the truth, he proceeds to mortally injure him. After mocking his lack of preparation to play the spy and his attempt to defend himself with a defensive barrier, Limbo asks the Crypter if he believes that Kirschtaria reached the same conclusion. The omnyouji acknowledges that Wodime was cautious about not trying to investigate the truth because he knew he would get disposed of due to the contract with the Alien God, so he just left the data there and never analyzed it. After putting Kadoc under a painful curse, he bids farewell and leaves.[23]
He reappears in the Machine God's Cloister, standing before the God-Breakers Alliance to prevent them from rescuing Hera from her sentence, using onmyouji arts to summon Cerberus and the Great Spirit of Limbo. After the battle, Musashi strikes a clean blow to his neck, but she doesn't feel like she's reached his core. As he regenerates, Limbo admits that he tried to manipulate Zeus in the same way as God Arjuna, but he turned out to be more paranoid than expected, so he hopes to see what will happen once Chaldea face the chief god of the Olympians. Caenis deals another fatal blow to him, but the result is no different. While laughing, Douman encourages them to continue attacking him, as all damage to a shikigami body is negligible, claiming that his Life Continuation is invincible. Peperoncino appears, happy because he already saw through the ritual, so as compensation for the mess the Alter Ego caused in the Indian Lostbelt, he casts an Abhijna-based spell on Douman to counter his pseudo-immortality, rendering unable to reincarnate into another shikigami body. Limbo is left perplexed once he realizes his ritual was redefined, so Peperoncino mocks him, advising him to wisely use the last life he has left as the clone turns to dust.[24]
One of Limbo's shikigami bodies is seen alongside Caenis and Kirschtaria on the Palace alongside the Fantasy Tree Atlas. Mash is surprised to see Douman alive, despite being beaten earlier. The Alter Ego comments that no matter what happens, he cannot die. Kirschtaria interrupts him saying that he does not have permission to speak and that he is not as merciful as Zeus would be. Douman challenges him, asking him what a crypter can do against him. It turns out the shikigami Limbo left to supervise the Tree was unaware that the connection between the shikigami bodies and the main body had been severed not so long ago, so Kirschtaria lets him know the shikigami he is currently using is the only and last clone of him available in Olympus. Ashiya claims only certain onmyouji can peform such a feat before confirming the connection between his clones was indeed cut. Apologizing to the Crypter, he decides to watch Kirschtaria and Chaldea's combat from afar.[25]
Once the Tree is activated, Limbo reappears, ecstatic as the expected moment has arrived. He admits that he was suspecting that Kirschtaria would breach his contract with Alien God at some point, but since the outcome is clear, the descent is imminent. When Ritsuka tries to stop Wodime, Limbo intercedes, saying that he will be the opponent while his god manifests within the Tree. Suddenly, Kirschtaria announces that the Alien God's descent place will not be in Olympus and tells Limbo to look closely at the Tree. He realizes that the empty space for his god to manifest is already occupied by someone else. Caenis remarks once again that Kirschtaria renamed the Fantasy Tree Magellan to Atlas for a reason, so Douman concludes that at some point Wodime summoned Titan Atlas and integrated it into the Tree. Limbo asks the crypter if said action doesn't constitute a violation of the terms of the contract, to which Wodime responds that the Alien God entrusted him to nurture the Tree, but he was never specified to do or not with the void of its interior. After considering Kirschtaria a traitor, Caenis proceeds to attack him, manifesting his rebellion against the emissaries of the Alien God, with an angry Ashiya commenting on how reckless a false divine spirit can be before initiating combat.[25]
Limbo is overpowered by Caenis, amused that a low-classed existence can best him. Before the fight can continue, the Fantasy Tree Atlas begins to burn. Caenis asks if this is a distraction from the Alien God, but Limbo answers that was Beryl's doing, whom he sees as a venomous worm but he never thought he was so poisonous. Declaring Olympus as a lost cause and the descent of the Alien God as postponed, he decides in advance that his role came to an end before brutally finishing himself off.[26]
Somewhere, Ashiya Douman's main body awakens, with time having passed since the last time he was in control of it. He laughs uncontrollably at the fall of Olympus and his people, being the act of mocking his praises to Chaldea. He ends saying his patience is already at the limit and that he will personally invite them to his place, the Naraka Mandala (地獄界曼荼羅, Jigoku-kai Mandara?).[27]
Heian-kyō: Naraka Mandala[]
Ashiya Douman tries and fails to become a Beast because a requirement for being an Evil of Humanity is that they love humanity, which he does not.[28][29][30][31][32][33][34]
Abilities[]
Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell claims she wouldn't dare mess with Saber of Empireo and Caster of Limbo due to her having a "weak little Saint Graph". If Rider of Kālasūtra Hell and her had to fight them, she'd want to at least have the same bodies and power that they did when we were alive.[11]
Combat[]
Douman claims that most of his abilities are blessings from the Alien God.[22][8] According to Katou Danzou, even Miyamoto Mushashi, who possesses an innate resistance to magic, would not be able to escape unscathed if she received a direct hit of any of his attacks. His Magecraft can also have special effects which in some cases can be directly compared to swords that have reached the demonic realm. For example, he's able to inflict wounds that never heal even refusing Ritsuka Fujimaru's Mystic Code.[7]
Ashiya is surprisingly an extremely powerful combatant in close quarters, capable of easily stopping one of Miyamoto Musashi's brilliant slashes that according to Senji Muramasa should have taken his head clean off.[7]
Caenis after having her Spiritual rank increased by Prometheus-Hephaestus was capable of defeating one of Ashiya Douman's clone body. Limbo is shocked he couldn't defend against her "pitiful" techniques, only to then realize that Caenis is not only protected by Poseidon, but she also wields her own lightning and gold. Limbo says she was hiding her true strength.[25]
The Karma of the Absolute Massacre (一切鏖殺の宿業, Issai Ōsatsu No Shukugō?, localized as Curse of Annihilation), is a Spell with which he can turn Servants, Humans or automata into genocidal beings who cannot avoid bringing death and destruction to all human life in the vicinity known as Heroic Spirit Swordmasters.[8] Those under the effects of the curse gain an artificial form of Immortality by keeping their Spiritual Cores separate from their bodies.[35][30] Due to this, Caster of Limbo claims only Senji Muramasa's finest katana, Myoujingiri Muramasa, can wound them. Later own, Fuuma Kotarou was also shown to be able to hurt them with his kunai, after he had absorbed Katou Danzou's Magical Energy.[7] Alive Sakata Kintoki and Watanabe-no-Tsuna are able to kill Shikigami imbued with this curse thanks to Abe-no-Seimei's talismans and Medea Lily's enhancement Spells. However, Medea Lily states that seeing how he fights, he might have been fine without her spells.[30]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Territory Creation (B Rank): The Skill to create a Workshop that provides him advantages.[2]
- Item Construction (A Rank): Crafts tools laced with Magical Energy. Douman is particularly skilled in crafting Shikigami.[2]
- Magic Resistance (A Rank): Possesses the highest rank of the Magic Resistance Skill. It's impossible for a modern Mage to harm him.[2]
- Divine Core of Darkness (B Rank): Upon taking in components of two Divine Spirits, he acquired a Divine Core he didn't originally have. A composite Skill including Divinity.[2]
- High-Servant (A Rank): The Skill expressing his status as a composite Heroic Spirit. Douman's additional components are two Divine Spirits (Chernobog, Itzpapalotl) and one evil spirit (Evil Spirit Left Minister).[2]
- Hedonism (EX Rank): Douman's philosophies and mindset are akin to that of a beast loudly laughing at the state of Human society, gleefully trampling on the mundane niceties of every person's lives, mocking love, manipulating emotion, and preying life and sanctity. This Skill is this mindset turned into a protean blade. Has Douman's way of finding pleasure even in agony transcended all human limitations?[2]
Personal Skills[]
- Ridicule Cat (EX Rank): Evolution of the Subversive Activities Skill. Alter Ego Ashiya Douman, crowned with the sun of treason, can sabotage any society with his fingertips.[2]
- Black Life (A Rank): Ashiya Douman never dies, instead ressurecting indefinitely to operate behind the scenes. This Skill is a combination of the Act of Life Continuation Skill that a normal Heroic Spirit Ashiya Douman would have, his secret arts of life restoration, and the power of Chernobog, the dark god of the Slavs. The Act of Life Continuation is one of Hakudou Jounin's secret arts, which Abe-no-Seimei uses in Abe no Seimei Monogatari, but the Servant version of Ashiya Douman secretly learned it and developed his own twist on the spell. By converting himself entirely into malignant information, then copying and multiplying his data body, he created a malison that makes him effectively unkillable.[2] Normally, the body of a Human body can't contain the sheer quantity of information within a Divine Spirit. However, Limbo was able to become a High-Servant thanks to having transformed his mind and body into Spells. Doing so even allowed him to use Shikigami to clone himself.[32]
- Life Continuation (生活続命, Shōkatsu Zokumyō?) is the name of the ritual in which he engraves his Saint Graph in countless Shikigami bodies, rendering him able to control them remotely and scatter them at will, gaining a form of Immortality.[18][36] Seeing it as an imitation of the reincarnation cycle, Scandinavia Peperoncino used a spell based on Asavakkhaya-nana (漏尽通, Rōjintsū?, the Knowledge of the Destruction of Defilements) which allows the practitioner to reach Nirvana by excluding himself from Samsara, to render him to his main body and make him unable to reincarnate into his clones.[24]
- Curse of Douman (A++ Rank): The Skill expressing his multiple supernatural techniques, including: curses, hexes, onmyoudou, and houjutsu. Douman brags about how, as a descendant of Ashiya no Sukune, he learned even the most powerful Xian Arts taught by India's Houdou Jounin of the Vulture Peak, but further details are not yet revealed (he says that he can connect to the Privileged Domains of the Philosophy Foundation through falsified Philosophy Keys to utilise his ultimate Xian Arts... but his actions imply he actively avoids resorting to that).[2]
- Obsidian Butterfly (C+ Rank): The ability associated with Itzpapalotl, the Aztec god of darkness. It steals the target's power, making them remarkably weak. This Skill is also merged with Breaking Seclusion, the Counter Skill against curses and Magecraft that a normal Heroic Spirit Ashiya Douman would have, allowing to negate arcane buffs and divine protections.[2]
Noble Phantasm[]
Douman's Noble Phantasm is Maelstrom - Evil Spirit Left Minister.[2]
Imperial Holy Grail War[]
After the manifestation of U-Olga Marie in Olympus, Limbo developed the Imperial Holy Grail War in 1008 AD Kyo as a means to create something similar to the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity's Onriedo Castle, a Pseudo-Fantasy Tree. In Limbo's Holy Grail War, only Casters are summoned. Since the mix of Heroic Spirit Souls isn't perfectly balanced, it takes extraordinary skill to keep the Magical Energy source for such a massive Spell stable.[28] Due to this, it is believed that the Holy Grail would be incapable of fulfilling "any" wish, which leads Chaldea to theorize that Douman must have a "single" specific purpose:[28][30] The generation of enough Magical Energy to reach the Root and "make the impossible possible". In Limbo's case, to grow the Fantasy Tree Naraka Mandala to maturity.[30][32] Since the Imperial Holy Grail War was stopped after only the first four Servants were sacrificed, Limbo was forced to add three extra souls:[30] Daishogun Itzpapalotl, Daion Chernobog, and his own, Ouban Ashiya Douman. [32]
Limbo was able to grow the Fantasy Tree through one of the secret techniques imparted to him by the Alien God known as Lucifer.[32] Douman claims that none of the Lostbelt Kings knew the proper way to use their Fantasy Trees, but he does. It is both a device to maintain a pruned world, and a divine vessel. This vessel has the ability to bestow the god that inhabits it with the exact same properties and functionality as the Alien God that manifested in Olympus. He originally planned to use it to elevate Taisai Ibuki-douji to a Beast, a true Evil of Humanity. However, he changed his mind and tried to become a Beast himself by having the tree absorb Ibuki's Magical Energy.[33]
- Main article: Rakshasa King - Skull Eboshi
Other Capabilities[]
- Douman can erase his presence so completely he's able to sneak behind Miyamoto Musashi without her noticing, despite her never leaving her guard down.[6]
- Douman has the ability to change day and night at will, as well as summon a Crimson Moon, which can randomly transform Humans into monsters.[7]
Forms and alternate versions[]
Heian-Kyo[]
During the Heian-kyō Singularity, Limbo possessed his 1008 AD Alive counterpart to manipulate the Minister of the Left Fujiwara-no-Michinaga into establishing the Imperial Holy Grail War in Abe-no-Seimei's absence.
Abilities[]
During the Heian-kyō Singularity, the Onmyou Bureau's twelve best Onmyouji prepared a Spell to kill Douman as a contingency in case he was evil. However, they were still greatly outmatched, and Limbo killed them with a single Curse.[29]
Ouban Ashiya Douman[]
Ouban Ashiya Douman (黄幡神・蘆屋道満?) is a fusion between Limbo, 1008 AD Alive Douman, and the karma of Ouban; a member of the Hasshoujin, the eight Onmyoudou general gods who seek to establish Naraka Mandala. He is the Master of the other Hasshoujin: Saisetsu Tawara Touta, Hyoubi Suzuka Gozen, Saiha Kugamimi-no-Mikasa, Saikyou Taira-no-Kagekiyo, Taisai Ibuki-douji, Daishogun Itzpapalotl, and Daion Chernobog.
Abilities[]
Limbo claims to be the most powerful Caster in the Imperial Holy Grail War.[29]
Douman was able to use the seven Command Spells granted to him as the Overseer of the Imperial Holy Grail War to embed the Hasshoujin's karmas into Servants.[29] Due to Limbo not summoning more than two Hasshoujin at a time, Ritsuka Fujimaru and Abe-no-Seimei speculate that he may be incapable of summoning more.[31]
Rakshasa King - Skull Eboshi[]
Rakshasa King - Skull Eboshi Ashiya Douman (羅刹王・髑髏烏帽子蘆屋道満?) is the form Limbo takes during the Heian-kyō Lostbelt after absorbing Taisai Ibuki-douji in an attempt to become a Beast, however, he fails due to holding no love for Humanity.
Abilities[]
When the Fantasy Tree Naraka Mandala absorbs Ibuki-douji, its Magical Energy rapidly reaches the same level as her, perhaps even exceeding it. By becoming one with the tree, Limbo's own mana is on par with that of a Divine Spirit. Though he is still an Extra Class Servant, he doesn't shift to a Beast Saint Graph.[33] Despite not being a Beast, Limbo states that his power should be equivalent to the highest Divine standing, due to all the gods he has consumed. He claims that even the gods would be so pitiful they could only dance upon the palm of his hand.[34]
Although Ashiya Douman claims that Sakata Kintoki's Golden Huge Bear doesn't compare to him, thanks to Ibuki-douji lending him Kusanagi, and Ritsuka Fujimaru empowering him with two Command Spells, Kintoki is able to cut down the Fantasy Tree, weakening Ashiya Douman. As the Tree collapses, Minamoto-no-Raikou, Ibaraki-douji, Katou Danzou, Shuten-douji, and Watanabe-no-Tsuna attack Limbo. Limbo attempts to activate his pseudo-Philosophy Key to utilize a powerful Xian Art spell which originated from Vulture Peak, that according to him could only be stopped by an Anti-Purge Defense, only for Danzou to finish him off with her second noble phantasm.[34]
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Ashiya Douman was designed by Shouichi Furumi in Fate/Grand Order. His scenario writer is Hikaru Sakurai in Fate/Grand Order. [2]
Comments from Illustrator[]
"I started expanding ideas from the "Japanese pierrot" keyword Takeuchi gave me and got the design done in one go. He struck me as a very complex figure, combining the mastery of latest field of knowledge of the Heian era (onmyoudou) with his primeval violence, resulting in a wild beast that learned enough about how humans live to be able to mock their pride. Mixing this impression with the "beast in human shape" line from the profile, the first thing that popped into my head was a sphinx, so the patchwork I was aiming for was civilized human beauty from the neck up and beastly human beauty from the neck down. He doesn't wear half of the kimono so his fashion can accentuate his duality and the contrast between his face and body, and to leave the impression that his physical attacks are also strong. As he is one of the villains, I aimed to make his figure iconic when he confronted the protagonist and cathartic when he is defeated." (Shouichi Furumi)[2]
