Subspecies Singularity III: Shimosa[]
Chiyome was summoned by Amakusa Shirou Tokisada to serve as one of the Heroic Spirit Swordmasters.[2] Her Cursed Name is Assassin of Paraiso.[3]
She and her fellow Swordmasters first encounter Ritsuka’s party as they tried to cut through a bamboo forest to reach Onui and Tasuke’s hermitage. She seemingly ambushes Miyamoto Musashi, though what Musashi thwarted was Chiyome’s afterimage. Soon afterward, Chiyome and her fellows watch Houzouin Inshun fight Yagyuu Munenori alone to let the others escape. This is followed by Ashiya Douman infusing Inshun with the Curse of Annihilation to become the final Swordmaster: Lancer of Purgatorio.[3]
Later Chiyome delivers a letter to Toke Castle threatening to assassinate Kiyohime, killing several guards. Afterward, she reports her success to Amakusa Shirou at Katori Shrine. She suspects security around Kiyohime has increased by now, and rumors should be already circulating around town. Amakusa Shirou orders her to assassinate Kiyohime once panic spreads amongst the populace. The populace will then be instilled utterly with fear, thus their souls will be better sacrifices. Amakusa Shirou leaves after telling Chiyome she needs only to stay true to the serpent within. Shuten-douji tries to tempt her to kill everyone now. Chiyome tells her to be quiet, only to immediately realize that she responded out loud to an illusion. The real Shuten is standing next to her, smiling. Merely looking at her causes the curse inside Chiyome to surface. She understands Shuten can’t do anything about the illusions inflicted by her curse. She then declares she’ll kill more than just Kiyohime before the night is over.[1]
That night she and her monsters attack Toke Castle. She fights the guards in the courtyard until Ritsuka and Fuuma Kotarou arrive. She declares that news of Kiyohime’s death will plummet Shimosa’s people into despair, thus making Shimosa easier to destroy. Then, knowing Kiyohime’s infatuation with them, she decides to kill Ritsuka to devastate the princess. To demonstrate how easy it will be, she kills twenty guards with her snakes. After slaying her monsters, Kotarou asks her if she isn’t going against her wishes as a Heroic Spirit by acting as a Swordmaster. She replies that Swordmasters only exist to kill. Kotarou asks if committing such atrocities eats away at her soul. Chiyome asks him how his soul feels when he kills other Heroic Spirits to grant his Master’s wish in a Holy Grail War. Kotarou, however, explains he asked as a fellow ninja. Chiyome calls him an immature whelp, but Kotarou declares he’s stronger than her. Chiyome is enraged at his demand for surrender and fights him. After killing her once, Kotarou tells her that a soulless ninja is nothing more than a hollow blade. By forgetting that, she has proved her immaturity. Chiyome revives and decides to stop holding back. Musashi suddenly throws Myoujingiri Muramasa at her, only for it to miss and be caught by Kotarou. He then blocks Chiyome’s kunai that she threw at Kiyohime, who followed Musashi outside. Musashi slashes at Chiyome, only for it to be an illusion while the real one had already escaped.[4]
Chiyome reprimands herself for underestimating Kotarou and failing to kill Kiyohime. However, she achieved her true objective of leaving designated patterns throughout the castle. She prepares to return to Katori Shrine to restore her magical energy when Shuten suddenly appears. Shuten proceeds to connect Chiyome’s heart and brain to the power of Yamata-no-Orochi that resides within herself to the latter’s protest.[5]
Chiyome returns to the castle and summons Orochi to kill everyone. Musashi and Kotarou slay it when Kiyohime suddenly attacks Ritsuka with her fire. Kotarou manages to protect them with his own body. Kiyohime confesses she unintentionally destroyed a snake nest long ago. Despite her regrets, the snakes still come for her. Orochi then revives despite being reduced to ash by Kotarou’s Immortal Chaos Brigade due to Chiyome’s Saigyou revival technique. Chiyome tells her to kill the group to gain the snakes’ forgiveness, after which she’ll kill her. Kotarou realizes the kunai that Chiyome threw was a feint to put Kiyohime under a spell. After the resurrected Orochi is slain, Kiyohime realizes she’ll never earn the snakes’ forgiveness. She wishes she never went to Mt. Ibuki, even though it was actually her ancestor who did. Tainted by his cursed blood, Kiyohime wants to kill the group to earn the gods’ forgiveness. However, Ritsuka and Musashi both realize her words are actually Chiyome’s, prompting Kiyohime to faint. Chiyome laments there is nothing neither she nor anyone can do about her curse; Not even becoming a Heroic Spirit or a Swordmaster freed her of it. She then brings herself and Musashi to the bloody battlefield for their duel. She loses and dies content that she’ s finally at peace.[5]
Abilities[]
Just like the other Heroic Spirit Swordmasters, Assassin of Paraiso was stronger than Miyamoto Musashi by the start of the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity, prior to her reaching the Void. In fact, Paraiso was disappointed by Musashi's Niten Ichi-ryuu, claiming it doesn't compare to those who have experience fighting in turbulent battlefields.[3] On the other hand, as there aren't many famous kunoichi in Human History, let alone adept incombat, it is relatively easy to figure out her True Name.[4]
Combat[]
Assassin of Paraiso is a shinobi who excels in stealth. She uses shadows to deceive her opponents, as shown when she made Miyamoto Musashi believe she had struck her down during their first confrontation.[3] She is also adept in combat, being able to decapitate 20 Edo warriors in an instant with her snake-charm techniques. In fact, they are so frail in comparison that she could easily swallow up a hundred or two hundred of them.[4] Miyamoto Musashi states that out of all the people guarding Kiyohime during the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity, the only ones who can handle Paraiso are probably Fuuma Kotarou, Ritsuka Fujimaru, Yagyuu Munenori, and herself.[5] No matter how incredibly strong she may be, even her still has moments of vulnerability. Thanks to this, Kotarou and Fujimaru working together were able to cut her own head off. Nevertheless, she regenerated soon after thanks to the Curse of Annihilation, revealing that she had been holding back during their fight as well.[4]
Miyamoto Musashi once tried to strike her down from behind by throwing her sword Myoujingiri Muramasa at her. However, Paraiso was able to dodge it.[4] During their final confrontation, Musashi defeated and killed Assassin of Paraiso.[5]
Swordmaster Abilities[]
As a Heroic Spirit Swordmaster granted the Curse of Annihilation, Paraiso possesses the following abilities:
- Immortality: Paraiso can heal all her wounds unless her Spiritual Core is cut with Myoujingiri Muramasa.[4] While her core is kept detached of her heart and brain, those organs still play important roles, making them susceptible to special attacks like the Curse of the Orochi.[5]
- Evil Spirit Summoning: Assassin of Paraiso can summon and control Evil Spirits, however, they are no match for Fuuma Kotarou. Thanks to Ritsuka Fujimaru's assiatance, Kotarou is capable of completely dominating them in a fight despite their greater numbers.[4]
- Unnamed Bounded Field: Paraiso can use powerful Magecraft resembling a Reality Marble. It creates a battlefield made out of corpses that consumes the Soul of the loser after a fight.[5]
Skills[]
- Curse of the Orochi: Paraiso's distant ancestor, Koga Saburo, committed a crime and was cursed by Yamata-no-Orochi, the manifestation of a mountain god. Paraiso is not descended from his primary bloodline, and she changed her family name. She also went to a far-off land, and married there. However, the curse refuses to spare her, following her wherever she goes. Even after after having lost her Human life and become a Heroic Spirit, it still finds her. This is shown during the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity, when Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell connected Paraiso's organs with the power of the god of Mt. Ibuki. This caused her Saint Graph to go berserk and udergo a physical and mental transformation. Furthermore, her Magical Energy grew at an explosive rate. On the other hand, she is also able to mind-control Kiyohime with a Spell. The reason for this is that Kiyohime also once destroyed a serpent's nest in Mt. Ibuki, causing her to get cursed similar to Saburo. [5]
Noble Phantasm[]
Assassin of Paraiso's Noble Phantasm is Channeling - Omen of the Great God Ibuki, a result of the Curse of the Orochi. With it, she can summon and control an Orochi.[5][6] While the serpent is big enough to swallow a horse whole, its power pales in comparison to the original Yamata-no-Orochi. The reason for this is that it was created from one of its eigth heads. Nevertheless, the serpent remains a fragment of a Chief God, making it a powerful asset. Its attacks are frighteningly strong, however, they also leave it wide-open. This allowed the combined efforts of Miyamoto Musashi and Fuuma Kotarou to overpower it, finally burning it to a crisp with the latter's own Noble Phantasm: Immortal Chaos Brigade.[5]
Paraiso was able to revive Orochi and have it support the mind-controlled Kiyohime.[5]
