AtlantisWP (アトランティス, Atorantisu?) is a continent that existed over 14,000 years before the modern era.
Background[]
Atlantis was a continent on which a prehistoric civilization of humanity lived.[1] Upon the Machine Gods arriving on Earth, they brought civilization to the people of Atlantis[1] and became deified upon being given names and personalities by the inhabitants.[2] Ruling the continent until 12,000 BC, it was destroyed during the Leukosmachia by Sefar along with the bodies of the Machine Gods.[1]
Within the modern day, Atlantis is one of humanity's most well-known legends.[1] Described by Plato in the TimaeusWP and CritiasWP dialoguesWP, it was said to be a "prosperous empire rich in natural resources" whose people "lost all respect for the gods and the rule of law." Punished by the gods, they flooded the empire and caused the continent to sink into the sea.[1] The legend of its flooding is one of flooding legendsWP passed down through various civilizations, thought to have taken place around 9000 BC.[1]
Within modern academia, there is no proof of the existence of the continent. The continental drift theoryWP in which a supercontinentWP contained all landmass has no room for another continent.[1] The study of plate tectonicsWP offers no proof for its existence. There are no discoveries of any artifacts from the civilization, and the only record of its existence comes from Plato's writings.[1] Sherlock Holmes, with the knowledge gained from the Atlantic Lostbelt, posits that the incongruity can be solved through mystery. While the disappearance of a normal continent would require some physical evidence to remain if it happened, such as record on the topography of the planet or through paleomagnetic linesWP, the continent being something beyond normal comprehension like the city of Olympus, contained within hollow area in the Earth, would make such evidence unnecessary.[1]
History[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Third Singularity: Okeanos[]
Francis Drake and her crew managed to reach the ruins of Atlantis after a seven-day voyage, encountering and defeating a diminished Poseidon (who intended to flood civilization), and obtaining a Holy Grail which would play a role in the events of the Okeanos Singularity.[3]
Fate/Grand Order: Cosmos in the Lostbelt[]
- Main article: Atlantic Lostbelt
In the divergent history of the Atlantic Lostbelt, the Machine Gods managed to avoid destruction and repel Sefar, but Atlantis was still destroyed. The Machine Gods created Olympus afterwards, and the survivors of Atlantis moved there around ten thousand years before modern day.[1] The area outside of Olympus where people live on the bodies of the destroyed Machine Gods is referred to as Atlantis during the modern day.
