Avidya (アヴィダヤ, Avu~idaya?), real name Sri,[1] is the princess of the Land of Sha in The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II.
Profile[]
Background[]
"Avidya" is not her real name, but rather an alias based on the Sanskrit wordWP for "ignorance", as she considers her powers to see the future to be as useless as outright ignorance,[3] and she would rather be ignorant than see the pain of others knowing that she could have prevented it.[4] She first used the name to hide her identity when she snuck out into town,[5] but later had to use it to hide her identity when she fled her country.[3]
Avidya was born as Princess Sri, the daughter King Barbud, raja of the Land of Sha.[3] She loved the royal palace, and, despite her position, she would often be found sleeping in its hallways decorated with statues of gods and rajas. She did not know much about the outside world and thought she would never get to see it, as most of Sha's citizens are not allowed to leave it and, to them, the kingdom is their whole world. Although her uncle Zalzalah always treated her nicely, she was scared of him because of how unreadable his intentions were.[4]
Her father strictly forbid her from revealing the secret of her precognition or trying to prevent the futures she foresaw, so due to her father’s unreasonable refusal to hear her predictions, all her power ever accomplished was making her suffer tragedies twice. Two years prior to the events of The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II, she predicted the collapse of a brahmin clinic. As it was a major disaster, she felt the need to ask the raja for permission to warn the wise pujari, trusting they could make up an excuse to evacuate the patients without publicly disclosing her powers, or even preventing the clinic's crumbling altogether. But when she entered her father’s room, she found him collapsed after vomiting blood, his food having been poisoned.[4] Fearing for her life, Avidya fled the country. Because Scandinavia Peperoncino was in good terms with the raja, and to honor his friend's last wish, he let Avidya escape before she became the next victim, and acted as her caretaker in the two years since.[3]
Avidya was waiting for a signal from an ally to come back to the kingdom, but having received a premonition of her own death in a few months, she decided to come back before her death.[3]
Appearance[]
Avidya is a brown-skinned girl around 15-years-old, who has blonde hair and wears clothing similar to traditional garments in the Indian subcontinent.
Personality[]
Despite predicting her own death, Avidya has the courage to face her death without fear.

Pepe accepts to take Lord El-Melloi II and his group on their trip to the Himalayas on the condition that Avidya is allowed to come along.[2]

Avidya has Precognition, specifically of the Future Prediction kind that only estimates the future.[4] Because of this, Avidya doesn't have conscious control over her future sight,[4] and her precognition doesn't give her precise details.[3]
