Bazett Fraga McRemitz |
Capsule Servant |
Bazett Fraga McRemitz (バゼット・フラガ・マクレミッツ, Bazetto Furaga Makuremittsu?) is the original Master of Lancer during the Fifth Holy Grail War. She was sent from the Mage's Association, but was betrayed by Kirei Kotomine and left fatally wounded. Her life is saved by Avenger, and she acts as his Master during Fate/hollow ataraxia.
Profile[]
Background[]
Bazett was born in a coastal village in Ireland as a descendant of an old family of magi that had detached itself from the Mage's Association and lived in the shadows quietly. Wishing to pursue a different path than that of her ancestors, she chose to join the Association when she was 15. Despite Bazett's rare lineage, her skills were not judged as being particularly useful and she was dismissed. Instead, she employed her abilities to become a hunter of those that had been given a Sealing Designation.[3][4]
Sometime in the past when she was still inexperienced she fought a homunculus created by the Einzberns. A failed creation facing disposal that ran away from Einzbern territory and survived in a city of man.[5][6]
During her missions, Bazett met Kirei Kotomine, a member of the Church. Back when he was active as an executor working for the Church, they often ran into each other on assignments and fought together as comrades.[4][7] Bazett and Kirei became friends and as she told him her story, she quickly came to trust him, and was very happy when he invited her to become a Master in the 5th Holy Grail War.[8] When the opposing faction of the Association sent an observer, Bazett killed the magus.[9] So, when Kirei, who until then had never relied on her even once, said he wanted to meet with her, Bazett was secretly elated. With no reason to doubt him, she walked right into his trap.[7][8] She summoned her Servant, Lancer, by using Cu Chulainn's earrings as a catalyst. She was prepared to join the War but she was betrayed by Kotomine, she didn't even have time to call out Lancer when he chopped off her left arm and her Command Spells were stolen.[7] Having only lived to the first day of the Grail War, Bazett was left to die.
Appearance[]
She is 23 years old.[3] Bazett is a very demure woman who often wears a black, two piece business suit with a red-violet necktie. She has short, magenta hair and a mole just below her left eye. Bazett often accompanies her attire with two ovoid earrings that were once worn by Cú Chulainn.
Personality[]
Bazett is a serious, kind, and hardworking individual who possesses a strong sense of justice. She can be short-tempered, but calculating. While she presents herself as a strong-willed and mature woman with an independent streak, she is actually rather lonely.
Bazett had always intended to summon Cú Chulainn for the Fifth Holy Grail War. The reason behind her motive was her desire to save him since childhood. Having had a dispassionate and socially desolate childhood, Bazett found herself immersed with the story of Cú Chulainn. She grieved for the tragedy of his legend, but at the same time felt that it gave her a sense of purpose. She strove to become a strong magus, gambling on the wild hope of summoning him and using the Holy Grail as a means of "saving" him from his inevitable fate.
Role[]
Fate/hollow ataraxia[]
Bazett woke up without any memories of what happened to her following the summoning of her servant. She assumed that she was still fighting in the Fifth Holy Grail War when she found herself in the company of an unfamiliar Servant, Avenger. The Servant she recalled summoning, Lancer, was nowhere to be found.
Together, the mismatched partners set off into the night to defeat their opponents and win the Grail. However, they found themselves in an inexplicable time loop comprised of the first four days of the Fifth Holy Grail War. Each time Bazett died or the fourth day ended, she reawakened at the start of the loop.
Bazett eventually discovered the truth: the war ended over half a year prior, and she had been betrayed in its early hours by Kotomine. As she lay dying on that fateful day, she heard a voice -- the essence of the Holy Grail's power -- offering her a second chance at life. The essence forged a pact with Bazett to continue the war, forestalling her impending death. This pact created the time loop.
As they began to realize they must end the loop, Bazett and Avenger came to understand each other’s wishes. Bazett recognized that Avenger wished to remain in the artificial world created by their pact, enjoying life as a person and not a Servant. However, Avenger started to believe it was more important for Bazett to live her own, true life outside of the loop. It was revealed that when Avenger first found Bazett, she was still alive, albeit barely. Her death was not, in fact, inevitable. Avenger managed to keep her alive for over half a year until a woman from the Church found her and nursed her back to health. With an understanding of the situation and having gained the courage to finally face reality, the two parted ways. Bazett woke up, ending the loop and her promised arrangement with Avenger.
Afterwards, Bazett tries to obtain residence at Shirou's house by taking advantage of his good nature.
Fate/unlimited codes[]
Bazett is a playable character in the PS2 and PSP edition of Fate/unlimited codes, she is known as the Master of the Multi-Reverse Punch (繰り返す逆月の主, Kurikaesu Gyakutsuki no Nushi?). Lancer carefully plots his revenge on Kirei for killing Bazett who was confident in his abilities.
In her story, Bazett starts off waking up with memory loss. She remembers she was dispatch by the Mage Association to watch over Fuyuki Holy Grail War, she was ordered as a Sealing Designation Enforcer to deal with any opposing enemies such as Master and Servants. She was to secure the Holy Grail for the Mage Association. Bazett is confident to take on any heroes even if it was Cu Chulainn.
She encounters Lancer in front of the Fuyuki church. Lancer instantly recognizes Bazett and calls her stubborn for her survival, he wanted to celebrate their reunion with drinks but he is ordered by Kirei to do his bidding. Kirei questions whether Bazett would be obedient enough to hand over the Gail to the Assocation, though Bazett confirms that she is doing this to prove her worthiness to the Association. Kirei founds humanity interesting and fights against her. Bazet falls after she won, her body becomes numb and er headache continues. Bazett realizes that she will go through another repetition of the Holy Grail War when she falls asleep and she regrets that she couldn't come up with a wish. Fate/tiger colosseum series[]
Carnival Phantasm[]
Bazett appears in the anime ending of Carnival Phantasm but doesn't make an appearance in the actual series until Episode EX, which also features Caren Hortensia. She is forced to dress in a skimpy outfit and sell brochures on the street due to a lack of money.
Caren, Lancer and Gilgamesh run into her and Lancer starts flirting with her, momentarily unaware who he is talking to. Both Lancer and Bazett are shocked when they find out. Caren offers to give Bazett money to help her with her situation, but as Gilgamesh notes, Bazett is happy just speaking to Lancer like a pair of "lovebirds."
An annoyed Caren promptly binds Lancer and pulls him away from Bazett.
Fate/Grand Order[]
- Main article: Manannán mac Lir
In addition to being summoned as a Pseudo-Servant, the living Bazett appears in the Mahoutsukai no Yoru collaboration event, having been dispatched to Japan on a job.[10]
Other appearances[]
In the anime adaptation of Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works], Bazett was indirectly mentioned by Atrum Galliasta. Atrum hands over a letter to Kirei Kotomine, the letter was a contract selling the right to eliminate Caster. He was hoping to use Lancer to kill Caster to avoid having to use a Command Spell to accomplish the task.[11]
In Lord El-Melloi II Case Files -Rail Zeppelin Grace Note-, Luviagelita Edelfelt, who investigated on behalf of Reines El-Melloi Archisorte, announces to Lord El-Melloi II that two positions for Association participants in the Holy Grail War have closed. As El-Melloi II decided to bow down Bram Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri in order to have a chance to enter the ritual, Reines and Bram are later on seen discussing about Waver and his obsession with the Holy Grail War. Reines displays in her hands a picture of Atrum Galliasta and one of Bazett, revealing that both are the ones being sent by the Clock Tower to participate in the 5th Holy Grail War, hinting at the fact that despite her brother's beliefs, the remaining slot was also taken. Bram then mentions that he could probably shove him into the McRemitz slot, if he were to mediate.[12]
In the World of Fate/strange Fake, the homunculus Bazett hunted early in her career was actually Fillia, who took that name after escaping from the Einzbern and hiding among humans. They had an all-out battle, during which Bazett heavily damaged her combat organs, which would later make Fillia unable to properly process the deactivation command when all of the Einzbern shut down, allowing François Prelati to use her as the Lesser Grail for the future Snowfield Holy Grail War.[6] Later, as she is dying, Fillia's final words imply she had lost control somehow and actually asked Bazett to stop her to protect the town that had accepted her as a human being.[13]
In TYPE-MOON's April Fools' Day 2008, she is a super heavyweight wrestler star known as the Iron Fist Thunder Bazett (鉄拳サンダーバゼット, Tekken Sandā Bazetto?) in the T Moon Fighting Spirit (Tムーン 闘魂, T Mūn Tōkon?). Bazett was originally a generalist. No matter what kind of enemy she faces in the ring. She is ready to fight courageously using good pro wrestling. The inner turmoil of the warring factions within the sports have no interest for her. Right after the bell rang to start the match, rough play ensued, causing terrible bloodshed. While Lunatic Akiha is no stranger to difficult opponents, she soon fell into the trap of her opponent's carefully measured punch attacks. Soon Akiha's rival played her trump card - the dreaded Firaga Hellspace. Bazett won the match with in 15 minutes, 42 seconds. Bazett had carefully calculated what the effect was going to be and won the match. Lunatic Akiha, in the spirit of good sportsmanship, said that Bazett looked good as a cross-dresser.
In TYPE-MOON's April Fools' Day 2009, moon.cinemas.jp is a fake movie theater site listing a number of parody films. She was featured in Mysterious Planet An Sa Ra (不思議惑星アン・サ・ラ, Fushigi Wakusei An Sa Ra?).
In TYPE-MOON's April Fools' Day 2015, Bazett is in a group called YARIO and is part of the Imperial Roma talent agency, her class is Farm Idol Unit (牧歌的アイドルニット, Bokka-teki Aidoru Yunitto?) and they are soon to debut. They like farming and likes live concert at the farm. Their favourite quote is "There's nothing we can't do!"
Abilities[]
Bazett is a specialist in physical combat and employs runic sorcery on her limbs, hands, and feet to increase her fighting potential. She is also a skilled mage overall. Her family possesses a Sorcery Trait known as God’s Holder - Tradition Carrier (伝承保菌者?), which allows them to pass on their abilities through bloodline rather than teachings. She is the current holder of Fragarach.
She probably would have ended up being a threat to Rin Tohsaka if she had been able to participate in the war.[7] In Fate/hollow ataraxia, when Bazett confronts Rin Tohsaka and Shirou Emiya, Shirou says that Bazett's power as a magus is easily three times that of Rin, and Bazett could have easily defeated both Rin and Shirou if she chose to attack.[14] Between Bazett, Souichirou Kuzuki, and Kirei Kotomine, she is the strongest in terms of pure power. Kotomine at his peak in Fate/Zero is noted as being stronger overall. Kuzuki would always win with a surprise attack, and in a fair hand-to-hand fight, he would always win the first fight due to his unique Snake fighting style.[15] As an expert in hand-to-hand fighting, she would be able to win a second encounter almost completely. He could drive Saber into a corner as long as his style was hidden, but Servants are those more emphasized by their talent than martial abilities. She should be able to adapt to it more quickly, but she may also be easily beaten if she underestimates him as only a normal person.[16]
If Bazett fought Medea, the battle would proceed with Medea winning overwhelmingly. As Caster doesn't have a trump card to use against Bazett, she's quite the difficult opponent for Bazett to handle. While lady Bazett is at times able to dodge, deflect, or nullify high thaumaturgy, she'd be fatigued before she could grab a chance at getting the upper hand.[17]
If Bazett fought Shirou Emiya when he "has trained/is operating himself to the max", people might think that this might end up being a good fight, but Bazett's a trained professional specializing in anti-magus battles. Technique, experience, and battle power. Against someone like her whose superior in all those regards, even with a "Broken Phantasm", Shirou's disadvantages are still not going to change. Bazett's ruthlessness would help her exploit those weaknesses.[18]
Development[]
She was to originally be a character developed for the potential Tsukihime 2 along with Caren Hortensia, but she was redesigned for Fate instead.[19]
Reception[]
Otome said that among the new characters, Caren, Bazett and Avenger were the most unique. Otome was glad to send them out into the world.
- In the first Popularity polls of Fate/stay night in 2004, Bazett was ranked 28th.
- In the second Popularity polls of Fate/stay night in 2006, Bazett was ranked 9th.
- In the Type-Moon's 10th Anniversary Character Poll, Bazett was ranked 35th.

Lancer's original Master.
Fate unknown.
She was a foreign magus dispatched by the Association, and summoned Lancer using a pair of rune stone earrings as the catalyst.
A beautiful woman dressed as a man, her abilities as a magus are top-notch.
She is an enforcer, tasked with the capture of sealing designated magi. Essentially, an existence similar to the executors of the Holy Church. She is extremely skilled in both sorcery and martial arts.
Though she probably would have ended up being a threat to Rin if she had been able to participate in the war, she was taken out prematurely by a surprise attack from Kotomine.
The reason for that is because she and Kotomine were actually old friends. Back when Kotomine was still an executor working for the Church, they often ran into each other on assignments and fought together as comrades.
So, when Kotomine, who until then had never relied on her even once, said he wanted to meet with her, Miss Bazett was secretly elated. With no reason to doubt him, she walked right into his trap.
She didn't even have time to call out Lancer, before Kotomine cleanly sliced off her left arm from behind and stole her command spells.
Afterward, he gave Lancer two commands.
The first was to make him accept Kotomine as his Master, while the second was to make him gather intelligence.
As for what the final command spell was used for, that's covered in the story itself.パゼット・フラガ・マクレミッツ【人名】
