Berserker of Saṃghāta HellWP (バーサーカー・衆合地獄}, Bāsākā Shūgō Jigoku?) is one of the seven Heroic Spirit Swordmasters created by Ashiya Douman in the Shimosa Singularity in Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Possessing the Cursed Name Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell, the True Name of Saṃghāta Hell's vessel is Shuten-douji.
Appearance[]
Miyamoto Musashi claims that Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell is as pretty as Otama.[1]
Personality[]
- Main article: Shuten-douji
Likely as a result of her being an Oni and a child of Yamata-no-Orochi, Shuten-douji appears to experience no drastic behavioral changes after having been transformed into a Heroic Spirit Swordmaster.
While certainly more overtly violent than her regular manifestation as an Assassin, this too is but a part of her base nature rather than a corruption brought about by the Curse of Annihilation.
Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Subspecies Singularity III: Shimousa[]
Shuten was summoned by Amakusa Shirou Tokisada to serve as one of the Heroic Spirit Swordmasters.[2] Her Cursed Name is Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell.[3]
She and her fellow Swordmasters first encounter Ritsuka’s party as they tried to cut through a bamboo forest to reach Onui and Tasuke’s hermitage. Watching from the treetops, she comments Musashi being alive after crossing swords with Raikou to mean the people of the Tokugawa era aren’t totally worthless. Raikou refutes this, saying the only decent people in the Tokugawa era are children. She tells Shuten to commit suicide to atone for her lapse in judgement. Shuten then unleashes her Noble Phantasm without revealing its True Name, but Houzouin Inshun deflects it with Hazy Inverted Moon - Eleven Styles. Soon afterwards, Shuten and her fellows Swatch Inshun fight Yagyuu Munenori alone to let the others escape. This is followed by Ashiya Douman infusing Inshun with the Curse of Annihilation to become the final Swordmaster: Lancer of Purgatorio.[3]
Later Shuten confronts Mochizuki Chiyome after the latter retreated from Toke Castle following a confrontation with Ritsuka’s party. She connects Chiyome’s heart and brain to the power of Yamata-no-Orochi within herself to the latter’s protest. She apologizes for her act, explaining Amakusa Shirou needs Ritsuka and Musashi eliminated.[4]

Shuten absorbing the remnants of Orochi.
The next night, she collects Orochi’s remains at Toke Castle for her wine. She asks Katou Danzou if she’s developing a soft spot for Ritsuka’s party, knowing Douman ordered her to spy on them. Danzou replies she is merely following her masters’s orders, which Shuten finds boring. Shuten teases her about how she’s always watching Fuuma Kotarou, recounting his words that a heartless ninja is nothing but a hollow blade. She then finishes collecting the remains and heads for Arakawa.[1]
There she witnessed Raikou slaughter an army near Arakawa River while they were en route to rendezvous with Munenori. Raikou only spared a young soldier left mentally broken by the slaughter, believing he’d make a poor sacrifice. She and Shuten then depart for Sagami to unleash the latter’s Noble Phantasm upon it. Danzou reminds them though that they weren’t ordered to do so, but they ignore her. They proceed to Sagami and destroy it with Shuten’s Noble Phantasm. Afterwards, they massacred larger settlements until high noon, only sparing smaller settlements because they vanished by then.[1]
Ordered by Douman,[5] Raikou and Shuten take Onui and Tasuke hostage. Musashi attacks Shuten, but Raikou blocks it. The Swordmasters then overwhelm the group using only a fraction of their power. Raikou tells them to come to the peak of the nearby mountain before high noon if they wish to save the children. She and Shuten then escape.[1]
On the summit, Shuten threatens to eat Onui. Raikou threatens to kill her if she tries to eat a child in front of her, so Shuten backs off. Shuten tells Raikou that her human self broke long ago in response to the latter tearfully telling Onui that the Swordmasters are broken. She adds she can’t blame it all on her karma.[5] Later she is kicked off the summit by Raikou.[6]
She finds Ritsuka, who was knocked off the mountain slope by Orochi, with an injured ankle. She takes them to a nearby cave where she mends their ankle. After they wake up, she describes Douman and Munenori (addressing them by their Cursed Names) as far worse than her and Raikou. Munenori is gifted at coldly and efficiently killing humans. Douman wants nothing more than to see the world destroyed. Agreeing with Ritsuka that Munenori and Douman both sound awful, Shuten is curious to know why Ritsuka is so comfortable around her. After hearing they know another her, she offers anything they want if they join her. They want Onui and Tasuke returned, but Shuten refuses and begins tearing into their stomach to reconnect their Magic Circuits. They soon fall unconscious from the pain.[6]
Returning to the summit, Shuten is confronted by Ritsuka’s party, alongside Raikou. They doubt Shuten’s claims that she ate them, and slay the Orochi she summoned. Afterwards, Shuten and Raikou bring Musashi to the bloody battlefield for their fight. Shuten disappears, saying she gave it her all.[6]
Abilities[]
In life, Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell was Shuten-douji, an Oni,[1][5] a condition that may have influenced her behaviour as Heroic Spirit Swordmaster according to Fuuma Kotarou.[5] There are also stories that say she was the daughter of the god of Mt. Ooe, making her one of Yamata-no-Orochi's descendants.[5] In reality, she's one of the eight heads of the deceased Chief God.[4] This grants her special abilities like manipulating those with the Curse of the Orochi or summoning Orochis herself.[4][5]
Just like the other Heroic Spirit Swordmasters, Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell was stronger than Miyamoto Musashi by the start of the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity, prior to her reaching the Void.[3] Even while using a fraction of her power, her attacks are so strong that Katou Danzou can't measure them.[1] Nevertheless, Saṃghāta states that she wouldn't dare mess with Saber of Empireo or Caster of Limbo with her "weak little" Saint Graph, and she doubts that Rider of Kālasūtra Hell would either. If they had to fight them, Shuten would like to at least have the same bodies and power that they did when they were alive. On the other hand, Amakusa Shirou Tokisada states that if Sasaki Kojirou were to fight the group that defeated Saṃghāta and Kālasūtra Hell during the Shimosa Singularity, it would be over too quickly, implying that he is vastly stronger than the two Swordmasters combined.[6]
Combat[]
While Miyamoto Musashi regards both Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell and Rider of Kālasūtra Hell as incredible warriors, she claims that they are not equally skilled.[1] Saṃghāta likes to play around, so Fuuma Kotarou, Senji Muramasa, and Musashi should be able to handle her if they rushed at her all at once, however, that definitely wouldn't work on Kālasūtra.[6] During their second meeting, Musashi nearly decapitated Saṃghāta with a surprise attack, however, it was intercepted by Kālasūtra.[1] On their final showdown, Musashi attempted a similar move again, but this time, Saṃghāta easily dodged it. She finally decides to go all out, causing her Magical Energy to surge. While Musashi took care of Kālasūtra, Kotarou handled Saṃghāta. However, it wasn't until Musashi learned how to cut Karma itself that she finally managed to kill both Swordmasters. This wasn't an ability granted by Myoujingiri Muramasa, but a result of Musashi finally reaching her own true power, the Void. While she hadn't been able to perceive karma when she fought Lancer of Purgatorio, Saṃghāta's and Kālasūtra's were too easy to see. Musashi may have had a long way to go, but even she could see how completely her karma had stagnated.[6]
Despite being former enemies, Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell and Rider of Kālasūtra Hell have great synergy fighting together. During the fight on Senji Muramasa's household, they always worked together to deflect Fuuma Kotarou's and Katou Danzou's sneak attacks whenever they tried to get close. While Muramasa, Miyamoto Musashi, Kotarou, and Danzou might have been able to handle one at a time, together, they were completely outmatched. It was only thanks to Musashi making up the difference with her Myoujingiri Muramasa that they still had a chance.[1]
As a descendant of Yamata-no-Orochi, Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell can create and control multiple Orochi-type monsters. It usually takes the combined efforts of multiple Servants to take one down.[1][5][6]
Skills[]
- Mad Enhancement: The reason Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell was able to commit atrocities like destroying an entire province for fun is that she was both a Berserker with this skill and a Heroic Spirit Swordmaster.[1]
Swordmaster Abilities[]
As a Heroic Spirit Swordmaster granted the Curse of Annihilation, Saṃghāta possesses the following abilities:
- Immortality: Saṃghāta can heal all her wounds unless her Spiritual Core is cut with Myoujingiri Muramasa.
- Evil Spirit summoning[1]
- Unnamed Skill: Saṃghāta possesses a unique Skill that allows her to vanish from the battlefield instantly. Fuuma Kotarou can't figure out the particulars, but he claims that it's similar to Presence Concealment.[1]
- Unnamed Bounded Field: Saṃghāta can use powerful Magecraft resembling a Reality Marble. It creates a battlefield made out of corpses that consumes the Soul of the loser after a fight.[6]
Noble Phantasm[]

Berserker Shuten's Noble Phantasm.
Berserker of Saṃghāta Hell's Noble Phantasm is Multitude of Colors - Providential Oni Poison. It consists on a wave of poison that floods and melts her opponents,[3] making her overwhelmingly powerful when it comes to taking on large groups.[1] In its overflown state, it can melt a whole province or two, as shown in the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity, when she destroyed Sagami ProvinceWP.[1] Houzouin Inshun was able to deflect it with his own Noble Phantasm: Hazy Inverted Moon - Eleven Forms. While Saṃghāta hadn't invoked its True Name at the time, she was surprised that he managed to stop it, claiming she hand't expected him to be capable of stopping a single drop.[3]
