Beryl Gut (ベリル・ガット, Beriru Gatto?) is one of the seven Crypters, Masters attempting to supplant the Proper Human History with that of the Lostbelt in Fate/Grand Order: Cosmos in the Lostbelt. He was formerly one of the forty eight Chaldea Master Candidates and a member of A team. He is the Master of Ruler Morgan le Fay.
Profile[]
Background[]
Beryl is a mage from the Department of Botany at the Clock Tower. Although not renowned, he comes from an ancient family line.[3] He was raised by his mother, a Witch, in the forest away from human civilization. During his childhood, he would request his mother to teach him Magecraft, specifically magecraft tailored for assassination, torture and murder. Eventually, when his mother ran out of things to teach him, he killed her and went to the city, where he became both a serial killer and an assassin.[4] He is infamous for being a criminal, and a murderer who kills just for fun, to the point where he's considered by some to be a "disgrace to humanity." He is also hated by the Clock Tower where he earned the nickname: the "Werewolf."[1] Morgan le Fay refers to Beryl as the descendant of the Witch of the End.[5]
Beryl joined Chaldea Security Organization and became one of the forty eight Chaldea Master Candidates and a member of Team A.[6] Nothing is known about why Beryl was chosen by Chaldea despite his notorious background, though he was recruited as a combatant. He fell in love with Mash Kyrielight on first sight because she was an incomplete being and decided to watch over her growth, though he is a deranged individual who expresses his love through harming her. But at the same time, he also wanted to protect her: part of his conditions for joining the Crypters was that Marisbury Animusphere would not give her a Sirius Light Command Spell.[4] Marisbury gave him the job of eliminating any deserters in the Crypters.[5]
A year before the start of Fate/Grand Order Beryl broke into Mash's treatment room and broke her fingers one by one, because he believed that one can't know what is beautiful until it has been blighted. He was caught and driven out by Doctor Roman, then detained and forbidden entry afterward.[4] Beryl says it's been one of his happiest memories.
Appearance[]
Beryl has black hair and wears glasses. He also has very sharp features and wears a black shirt and red pants.
Personality[]
Beryl is rude and aggressive, acting carefree and mocking in his actions and interactions with his fellow Crypters. Despite this attitude, he is rather astute, being able to deduce Tamamo Vitch Koyanskaya's true nature. He is also extremely clever, claiming to have the denizens of English Lostbelt to cut down its Fantasy Tree, as well as taking advantage of the Trees' network to burn Fantasy Tree Atlas from within. However these actions made him and his lostbelt an enemy of the Alien God. He admits he's a scumbag and he's proud of it to the point of not wanting to improve himself at all
He is a natural born killer, the act of killing being his pleasure in life, always seeking his next prey. He kills those who bore him, he kill those he has reason to, and he kills those who would be pitied in death. This delight in killing was in part what prompted him to betray Kirschtaria and foils his plan to ascend humanity to godhood. Such a world would be boring to him, as there would be nobody for him to kill. He also seems to takes pleasure in more wide-scale killing, delighted at the prospect of a being in his Lostbelt capable of destroying the planet once it matures.
He is in love with Mash Kyrielight. He also wants to hurt her, not because he hates her, but because he loves her and that is how he expresses his love. That is the kind of person he is. Mash is the most important thing in the world to Beryl, and so he wants to see her suffer no matter what.[4]
He claims that women can't be trusted at all after making a jab at Kirschtaria that Ophelia's final actions before her death essentially means she dumped him, and gets a bit riled up over the notion that Ritsuka Fujimaru Chaldea's Master is protected and coddled by Mash. This combine with what he did to Mash also earn him Ritsuka's ire who told him upfront that he is sick and that his twisted vision of love couldn't be even further than real love.
Beryl seems to care quite a bit about Kadoc, claiming that he thinks of him like a real little brother and truly cares for him. He also seems to be on friendly terms with Daybit. Beryl also acts somewhat disrespectfully towards Kirschtaria, the leader of the Crypters. He also proves an unrepentant traitor by backstabbing the latter, as well as motivated only by self-interest. He expresses contempt for Kirschtaria’s ambitions of turning humanity into human-god hybrids simply because this would deprive him of more targets to murder. In addition, unlike the other Crypters who have at least been cordial towards their Servants, Beryl has not even mentioned his summoned servant, implying he has a much colder relationship than them.
Its been implied that Beryl's childhood of learning and using Witchcraft tailored towards using and manipulating "life" as its main ingredient has had a profound affect on his mind that contributed to his current personality.
Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Olga Marie orders Team A to participate in "Singularity Point F".[7] With Lev Lainur betrayal, Beryl was amongst the casualties to be put into cryofreeze in their coffins.[8]
Arc 2 Prologue[]
After the events of Epic of Remnant, Beryl has woken up. He is one of the Crypters, who attempt to regress the world back into the Age of Gods, through establishing Lostbelts. Beryl himself oversees the sixth Lostbelt.[6]
Before giving his answer to the Alien God's proposal, Beryl asks the unknown entity about a certain matter essential to him. He is pleased with the immediate response and decides to be resurrected to serve for the self-proclaimed foreign god's purposes.[5]
He is the second one to be resurrected, surprised that Wodime has also chosen to reject Panhuman History, believing only he, Peperoncino or Daybit would accept such a deal, to which Kirschtaria replies that he also has his own plans. After talking about his current impressions of the leader of the crypters, Beryl asks him about his assigned role. Kirschtaria reveals that Beryl, as a member of the A-Team, has knowledge about Sirius Light, its true purpose and how to activate it, as he also knows he was hired by Marisbury himself to deal with the deserters. Beryl asks if he plans to silence him, but Wodime responds negatively. He explains each A-Team members will be resurrected and each one will be assigned a lostbelt. Per Wodime's request, Beryl is in charge of the British Lostbelt, but because Britain is an outstanding land in the magecraft terrain, he is unable to imagine what might happen if that lostbelt becomes the Alien God's descending place, so he asks Beryl to cut down the corresponding Fantasy Tree before it unfolds in a discreet way. Seeing himself with no option but to betray the being that brought them back and to revoke his right to participate in the competition, the werewolf agrees to Wodime's selfish demands but not before asking him for a just reward once he has achieved his goals as the King of the Earth.[5]
Within his assigned lostbelt, Beryl can't help but wonder if Wodime was exaggerating about a Lostbelt where there are only phantasmal beasts and fairies as something so dangerous. To take down the Tree, he decides the Servant he wants must be someone who can "break the world", successfully summoning Ruler-class Morgan le Fay in the process.[5]
Anastasia: Permafrost Empire[]
Beryl participates in the meeting between Crypters, held after all the Lostbelts have been properly established. Beryl, however, is critical of the situation, claiming that none of them have really done anything yet. He also complains how the Lostbelts of his and Daybit's are terrible for their purpose, saying that Kirschtaria will naturally be the one whose Lotsbelt will be the last one left and devour the other Lostbelts.
As they discuss Chaldea possibly entering the Russian Lostbelt of Kadoc, Beryl offers Kadoc his help, though the latter declines. As the meeting ends, Beryl returns to his Lostbelt, telling the others to inform him if an SOS-message arrives from Russia, claiming to really care about Kadoc.[9]
Götterdämmerung: Eternal Icy Fire Century[]
SIN: Synchronized Intellect Nation[]
Beryl is concerned about their teamwork when Hinako Akuta leaves the meeting after giving her report. Though glad to see Kadoc alive, he questions if he betrayed them to Chaldea. He also questions how an amateur like Ritsuka has survived so far unscathed. Peperoncino suspects they're protected by Mash, which makes Beryl jealous they get to be a hero while hiding behind a woman. Beryl is delighted by the news that Ophelia stopped being a Crypter in final moments, despite her devotion to Kirschtaria. He rejects Peperoncino's proposal to ignore Chaldea for now to focus on their Lostbelts, believing they should crush them at the soonest. He then hires Koyanskaya to kill Ritsuka. He is surpised by her ability to transport anywhere (including the Wandering Sea), and considers having get him out of his Lostbelt when it all goes to hell.[10]
Atlantis: Ancient Ocean of the Dreadnought Gods[]
Beryl is impressed Chaldea is now heading for the Atlantic Lostbelt, commending Ritsuka for destroying four Losbelts so far. He confirms his Lostbelt's Fantasy Tree was destroyed at Kirschtaria's request. He describes the Lostbelt as a hellish wonderland, where Phantasmal Beasts greatly outnumber humans, which surprised even an Englander like him. He suspects the Lostbelt's denizens will realized he tricked them into destroying the Tree, but he’ll deal with that later. He then physically arrives in Olympus, making use of a sheltered princess from his Lostbelt that he got close to. She turned out to be insane though, not caring he was a human spy and saying things like “let’s be together until the depths of hell!” Beryl warns Kadoc against getting involved in with royalty, but the latter affirms he doesn't intend to do so anymore. Beryl and Pepperonico joke about selling scandalous stories about Kadoc to Koyanskaya. Kadoc angrily leaves the room at this notion; Beryl and Pepperoncio soon follow.[11]
Olympus: Interstellar Mountainous City[]
Beryl encounters Aphrodite while she is walking the halls of Olympus. He calms her with his charm and wit, saying he came from a godless world. Aphrodite asks him to come to her temple sometime to tell her about it. Beryl asks her about finding a person he's looking for, but she doesn't know nor care. She spends her days mostly in her temple, and even if she knew, she advises against going to city now since Demeter is destroying it now.[12] Beryl later requests Koyanskaya to accquire items from the Proper History.[13]
Later, Beryl talks with Peperoncino about the gods' strategy for destroying Chaldea, frustrated they're not attacking all at once. Peperoncino assumes it didn't cross their minds since their enemies are mere humans. Beryl isn't convinced though since he overheard Zeus talking about how Chaldea has the Black Barrel. Peperoncino believes Zeus won't consider such a weapon a threat unless it revolves around technology incomprehensible to the gods. Beryl thinks about how sad a woman Aphrodite is, then wonders where Kadoc is. He's worried that the latter may be doing something that neither Kirschtaria nor the Alien God will like. Peperoncino reassures him though that he's probably just out enjoying the art in the city.[14]
In the gardens, Beryl talks with Koyanskaya about how the Lostbelt will soon end. He suspects Douman has killed Kadoc now for his failures in Russia. He stops her from leaving by saying he get her acessing to monsters not of the Proper History, such as a still living "Dragon of Albion". Having piqued her interest, he explains that something like a "perfect age of gods" being too grand for him is why he sought her out. Knowing her true nature, he intends to provide her with the wares she seeks in exchange for getting him out of the Lostbelt.[15]
Beryl sets Fantasy Tree Magellan on fire from within by exploiting the network formed by the Trees. He then tries to attack Kirschtaria from behind, only for the latter to defend himself. He questions why Kirschtaria views the English Lostbelt with such hostility, even though he's never been there. Kirschtaria explains there is a calamity on another level of the Alien God that if allowed to mature will be capable of destroying the planet. Beryl is intrigued by the prospect of such a being. He then confesses that he's being hunted by the fairies wherever to the point where he only needs say "I'm here" for them to bring down on divine punishment on him. Rhongomyniad is then fired upon his position, prompting Kirschtaria to tell everyone to escape.
As Kirschtaria blocks it, Beryl takes advantage to stab him. He explains his previous intention of returning to his Lostbelt after destroying Atlas. However, he had to kill Kirschtaria after learning of his plan to ascend humanity to godhood. Such a world would be boring to him since there wouldn't be anyone to kill.[16] He mocks Kirschtaria for wanting to be a god yet cannot heal a simple stab wound, kicking him while he's collapsed on the floor. He becomes unnerved when everyone stares him down, and warns he may kill them all if they get him riled up. He commends Ritsuka for standing up for their comrades, but warns such an attitude will be their downfall. He attacks them, but Caenis arrives to block it.
Touched by Caenis' concern for Kirschtaria, Beryl tries to recruit her, offering territory in his Lostbelt if she agrees. She disagrees though since Kirschtaria is dying from a deceptive wound rather from battle with Ritsuka. Rasputin questions if Beryl can still be considered an ally since he killed Kirschtaria, who had betrayed the Alien God. Beryl is unconcerned with the future of humanity, and questions if the Alien God is truly as powerful as it's said to be. He asserts that since Magellan was brought down by Kirschtaria and Fantasy Tree Seyfert of his Lostbelt was descretated by a certain woman, there is no longer any vessel for the Alien God. Rasputin understand both Beryl and his Lostbelt are now enemies of the Alien God. Beryl also explains that Rhongomyniad earlier was a magic woven by his Lostbelt King for use specifically against the Alien God. So no matter what Kirschtaria did, Olympus would've been destroyed. Beryl panics upon Rasputin designating him an enemy of the Alien God, and calls for Koyanskaya to return him to his Lostbelt.[17]
Avalon le Fay: Fae Round Table Domain[]
Getting bored of how relatively calm his Lostbelt is, especially since he is tasked by Wodime to destroy the Tree of Emptiness, Beryl decides to summon a Servant with the condition that they can "break the world". He ends up summoning Morgan le Fay who decides to completely undermine Beryl's mission by changing the history of the Lostbelt, leading to a land ruled by her Lostbelt self who would go against Beryl's mission.
Beryl was lying about angering the inhabitants of his Lostbelt, and it was actually all part of his and Morgan's plan to get close to Kirschtaria so that Morgan could use Beryl as a beacon to aim Rhongomyniad at Olympus's Fantasy Tree.[5]
Beryl is the husband of Morgan. He also calls Mash his soulmate, and says that she is not allowed to die before he does.
The crazy princess he mentioned before was Baobhan Sith. Beryl's told her stories of human civilization in proper history, and she became obsessed with imitating it.[18]
In order to prevent him from tainting the revitalized British Lostbelt with his memory of its original, blank state, Morgan disposed of him and then magically recreated him after her new history was established. His memories were restored so seamlessly that Beryl didn't even realize he was a copy until the moment he paused to think about the implications of Morgan's rayshifting.
After Barghest is killed, Beryl reappears in an attempt to attack Mash while she is still exhausted from the fight. Due to him still having the Moss curses in his body, Beryl is falling apart and slowly dying. Still he wishes to express his twisted form of love to Mash before he dies, and attempts to get rid of the final obstacle in his way, which he views as the protagonist. After being thoroughly beaten, Beryl reverts back to his human form all bloodied and on the brink of death. He stumbles towards Mash, saying how he came back to life just to see her again, and expressing how beautiful her eyes are. He collapses to his knees and tells Mash he loves her from the bottom of his heart, she does not deny this, but says she could never understand what he called 'love'. Beryl gives her one last smile before he dies.
Abilities[]
Beryl was recruited to be Team A's main fighter.[2] His job is to kill the other Crypters should the situation call for it. Due to this Beryl looks down on the other six, if it ever comes down to a fight, he thinks he’d win. Among the A-team he may be ranked fourth in terms of combat prowess, but he's more accustomed to killing than the rest. However despite this, Peperoncino outclasses him in combat power and as a killer and would win in a head to head fight, something Beryl never realized.[19][20]
Magecraft[]
Beryl uses Witchcraft as his specialty, using a style of Witchcraft tailored towards using and manipulating "life" as its main ingredient, that is specifically tailored for assassination, torture and murder. This included hunting prey, concealment of oneself, lethal poison, malignacy of karma, amplification of pain, loan of misfortune.[4]
His signature brand of magecraft requires him to eat all that he can of the creature he wants to become. He does it to Woodwose during the events of Avalon le Fae which allows him to shapeshift into his victim.[21]
He taught Baobhan Sith how to use Fetch Magecraft, a spell that reflects the soul to create a projection. He claims it's too advanced for him to use himself,[22] however in truth, it rots the user's soul.[21]
Beryl also found a way to infect humans with the Moss curse that afflicts the fairies and to make it contagious, out of a twisted mixture of curiosity and pure sadism. However, his teammate Pepe manages to turn these things back on him by first taking the curses of all the suffering humans in Beryl's Lostbelt into himself, then using his own death to infect Beryl with them, causing him constant, agonizing pain.[21]
Beryl possesses a Reality Marble called Bizarre Reality Marble: Red Hood (猟奇固有結界・レッドフード, Ryōki Koyū Kekkai Reddo Fūdo?). He also has a spell called Slack Snark (スラックスナーク?). Both of their capabilities are unknown. They were planned to be in his boss fight but had to be cut due to programming issues.[23]
Forms and Alternate Versions[]
Black Wolf[]
Black Wolf (ブラックウルフ?) is the form Beryl Gut takes when transforming into Woodwose.
Abilities[]
While using Woodwose's Saint Graph, Beryl Gut's strength is high enough to repel Super Mash's assault and overpower her and Artoria Caster powered by four Bells of Pilgrimage.[21]
Skills[]
Development[]
The plan in the English Lostbelt was for Beryl to use his Command Spells on himself during the fight with his werewolf form, in order to power himself up. They had even recorded voice lines for it, but it had to be scrapped due to programming difficulties.[24]
Creation and Conception[]
Beryl Gut was designed by Shounen Sasaki in Fate/Grand Order.
Black Wolf was designed by Ryota Murayama in Fate/Grand Order.

TYPE-MOON Ace Volume 14 Nasu interview Question: Speaking of which, the “clingy princess” Beryl mentioned in one of their Crypter meetings was Baobhan Sith, right? This was a widely discussed topic among fans on the internet…
Nasu: He was referring to Baobhan Sith for sure. The things Beryl said in that Crypter meeting were a pack of lies. The man’s a bad wolf. He laces and embellishes his lies with the truth, all the while hiding the important details. While it was true that Baobhan Sith followed him around, he deliberately phrased it in a way that would give others the wrong idea.
His job is to kill the other Crypters should the situation call for it, so he would never just tell them the truth. To put it another way, Beryl is looking down on the other six. If it ever comes down to a fight, he thinks he’d win. He may be ranked fourth in terms of combat prowess, but he’s more accustomed to killing than anyone. …That being said, Pepe actually outclasses him even when it comes to “killing”, something he never realized even in his final moments. - ↑
TYPE-MOON Ace Volume 14 Nasu interview Question: So does that make Peperoncino second to none in terms of combat prowess??
Nasu: Pepe would win in a simple 1v1 match to death, but Kirschtaria would be the one to emerge victorious in a frontal “war”. And regardless of the situation, the one to ultimately win would be Daybit due to his unpredictability. These three are more or less evenly matched, so winning boils down to compatibility. Assuming the two belong to the same category of strength, you could say Pepe is backward compatible with Beryl.
So we already know who would win if Beryl and Pepe were to clash head-on.
Nasu: That’s right. Beryl thinks he could kill Pepe in an instant if he wanted to, hence his arrogance. Meanwhile, Pepe, sensing what’s on Beryl’s mind, would just shrug it off like the adult he is. “Sure, if that’s what you think. You do you.” - ↑ 21.0 21.1 21.2 21.3 Fate/Grand Order: Cosmos in the Lostbelt - Avalon le Fae: Fae Round Table Domain - Section 21: Lost Will
