Profile[]
Background[]
Six million years prior to the modern day of the South American Lostbelt. Camazotz was king of the Ka'an Kingdom that came into existence during the period in which Mictlan had no source of light, surviving on the heat and geothermal energy of the Earth instead, and ruling in darkness for 100,000 years. After ORT began to awaken, the humans living there sacrificed themselves to empower their king, who became unkillable. He describes the Ka'an throwing themselves into a great crucible, at the bottom of which he lay as his subjects sacrificed their bodies to forge his body.[1] With his inability to die, Camazotz fought ORT alone until he was finally able to defeat it, putting it back into slumber. He tore ORT's heart from its body and used it to fuel the Sun of Mictlan.
However, due to all of humanity sacrificing themselves to empower him, he is both the last remaining "human" of the Lostbelt and also became a Beast due to all of the human deaths in his name. This ultimately drove him insane.
In the present day Camazotz is feared by the deinos as a monstrous being who can raise the dead. When he comes in the night, they all hide in their homes. The deinos do not know about the history of Camazotz or Ka'an, which is only ruins now.[2]
Appearance[]
Camazotz's helmet represents a bat's face. The aqua gems on the sides are the eyes, the middle part above his head is the nose, and the two circles on each side are the nostrils. The collar around his neck represents the bat's lower jaw, with blue diamond-shaped gems representing teeth. He has three tongue piercings, and the blue mark on his navel is also a piercing. The darker parts of his feet and legs is actually a short, velvety fur. His loincloth only covers his front, it doesn't wrap around the back. He has four wings, a long tail, and his hair is tied and braided in a highly-elaborate web-like fashion. [3]
Personality[]
|
« I am the Champion of the Ka'an. The Spider-Slaying Bat. The king who forsook his crown. The weakling who could not save his world other than by sacrificing every last of his subjects. » |
| (Camazotz) |
He believes he's the only worthy candidate to be Mictlan's king because Tezcatlipoca only cares about the present and Kukulkan only cares about the future.[4] Even if human history is currently a blank scroll, Camazotz feels the scroll itself is still precious and wants to protect it. Camazotz doesn't mind the scroll having nothing written on it because he's not enough of a fool to ever read.[4]
Camazotz is willfully trying to forget the past and his people, for if he remembers them he will give into despair. He holds on to his oblivion, and this is how he has continued living for 6 million years. Once, long ago, he could have related to Ritsuka Fujimaru as humanity's last Master, but he forgot those feelings long ago.[1]
Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Nahui Mictlan: Golden Sea of Trees[]
Camazotz fought Daybit Sem Void prior to the arrival of Chaldea.[5]
Camazotz attacks Kingprotea while she is carrying Chaldea across the river in the first underworld border. He gravely wounds her and then uses a Command Spell taken from Ritsuka Fujimaru to apply the trait of Xochitónal onto her, turning her into Kingprotea Alter.[6]
He confronts Chaldea again at the second underworld border, and expresses disappointment that Nemo Marine has died in the interim, saying that Chaldea should try not to die to anyone except him. After Chaldea defeats his summoned undead, Camazotz uses another Command Spell to turn Beni-enma into Beni-enma Alter.[7]
When he learns that Tezcatlipoca and Daybit Sem Void plan to awaken ORT, Camazotz chooses to protect human history, as he doesn't want to repeat the mistake of 6 million years ago. Pondering whether to side with Chaldea or wait to take out the wounded winner at the end of the battle, Camazotz decides to kill Fujimaru and become humanity's last Master himself.[4][8]
Camaztoz attacks the area near the deinos city of Chichen Itza with deinos ghouls, prompting Chaldea to go after him at the ruins of Ka'an. Camazotz expresses his desire to kill and replace Fujimaru, saying he planned to do so in the fourth underworld border, but he attacks them here in Ka'an to correct their mistaken belief that he is not a threat outside the borders. When Nitocris counters his undead with her own spirits of the dead, Camazotz becomes enraged and confused. After his familiars are defeated he grabs Nitocris and demands to know what she did, while threatening to cut her in half with his scythe if Fujimaru tries to save her.[2]
Camazotz grabbing Nitocris.
The source of Camazotz's confusion is the way that Nitocris claims to have memorized the names of all the spirits she rules. When Nitocris affirms that she has because they were her subjects, and she can only be where she is as a Heroic Spirit because she carries their pain with her, Camazotz furiously flies into the sky. He states that this is the worst day of his life and he has met the most repulsive, vile of women. He retreats for the time being to calm down.[2]
On his way down to the fourth underworld border, Camazotz stops at the third border and turns Ereshkigal into Ereshkigal Alter. After her transformation she attacks him and drives him off.[9]
Later Camazotz interrupts the battle between Tlaloc and Nitocris, tearing Tlaloc's body apart before she can reveal her True Name Tenochtitlan. Camazotz insists that he wasn't trying to save them, but that they should dedicate their deaths to him instead of being killed by someone else. He invites them to meet him in Mictlan's eighth layer.[10]
In Camazotz's domain, he promises to let Chaldea go unharmed and continue on to ORT on one condition: they give Nitocris to him. When Fujimaru of course denies him, Camazotz reveals his identity as a Beast and transforms into a monstrous bat creature to battle them, while speaking of how he lost all of his people to defeat ORT. Camazotz abducts Nitocris and takes her further into his domain with the intent of transforming her into an Alter, but realizes he's already used up all of his Command Spells so capturing her was pointless.[1]
Camazotz asks Nitocris why she took her own life after killing the men who killed her brothers, which has been bothering him for some time now. He deduces that Nitocris had thought herself a sinner as well, and calls her an obstinate fool. Nitocris asks him why he isn't bothered by the end of his world, and he reveals to her that he cannot die, he will continue existing even if the sun goes out or ORT destroys the planet. If he forgets the past nothing will remain of it, and the present will continue on without any pain, sorrow, or trace of himself. Camazotz tells Nitocris that he wishes not to look upon a Nitocris who is not herself, and tells her to not become an alter. Afterwards Camazotz makes a bet with Nitocris, that Chaldea will not come to rescue her, and if they do, he will let her become the Queen of Underworld.[1]
Chaldea arrives to save Nitocris and begins fighting Camazotz again, but Nitocris knows they can't defeat him. She acknowledges that Camazotz was correct, that the reason she killed herself and kept herself from going to a paradise afterlife was because she felt she was also a sinner for killing her brother's killers with underhanded tactics. Nitocris performs the ritual that Xquic told her about, which is to become an Alter by betraying her own beliefs. Nitocris tears out her heart and offers it to Anubis to judge her soul. In doing so, she realizes that the reason Camazotz saved her was because he had forced himself to forget everything so that he would not live in despair, while she in contrast would become an avatar of vengeance who administers divine punishment: Nitocris Alter.[1]

« Oh my people, my brave warriors! Was I a king worthy enough to give up your lives for my cause! Oh my wonderful people! Did I build a country great enough that it was worth sacrificing your young ones too, for it? If that's the reason, then I'llll...... Aaarggh! » |
| (Camazotz in his final battle) |
Nitocris Alter declares that she will administer the punishment that Camazotz has been running from for 6 million years, giving him atonement in death. With her power, Camazotz is brought to the brink of death as Nitocris Alter's magical energy runs out and she turns back into Nitocris. Unconscious, she falls from the sky, and Camazotz jumps up to save her. He lets her down safely and, now remembering his people in detail, kills himself.[1][11][12]

« I won't allow you to forget.... Forget my insanity... My people's pain... Their sacrifices... I will never ever allow you to forget.. For I am Camazotz ! Spread the word that I am the Spider-Slaying Bat. The king of the brave warriors of Ka'an who threw away his crown for sake of his people! Now you shall now see proof of my kingdom's true mettle as I shed my blood in their honour! » |

Abilities[]
Camazotz states that in Mictlan, he is stronger than Tezcatlipoca.[7] Tezcatlipoca notes that if he was in the Aztec empire, he would be stronger than Camazotz, however, in the South American Lostbelt, the latter wins out. He believes that Camazotz might be the strongest "guy" in the Lostbelt.[1] Xochitónal warns Kingprotea Alter to avoid fighting Camazotz, and that he is the most terrifying god in existence. Kingprotea Alter, on the other hand, disagrees and says that he didn't seem THAT big of a threat to her.[8] Tepeu explains that Camazotz is the only life form in Mictlan who Deinos are inferior to, which is why he is more feared by them than night.[2] After hearing about the history of the Ka'an, Wak Chan also claims that the deinos' fear of Camazotz is an instinctual response to the inexcusable act of occupying the Ka'an's abandoned city.[11]
Camazotz states that not even he can handle Beni-enma Alter, as one who can sever the threads of the soul, and that he has no choice but to retreat the moment she enters the battlefield.[7]
Combat[]
Daybit Sem Void with the power of one Command Spell was able to fight Camazotz to a draw. Although Camazotz says that Daybit's blood is awful, he admits that he earned the right to step foot in Calakmul. Having seen Daybit match Camazotz, Xquic claimed that she didn't believe Chaldea would be capable of fighting Daybit.[5]
Camazotz is a Bloodsucking monster.[6][2] He can drain Deinos and turn them into Dead Apostles, though only at the level of Ghouls, low-tier Familiars. Although they lack sentience, they instinctively seek blood, even as corpses, due to Camazotz having administered them with his own Immortal blood. Camazotz, like other vampiric monsters, can restore his supply of magical energy through the consumption of blood. Camazotz can also use Necromancy Magecraft to have dead Spirits possess the cadavers of the Ka'an Human warriors, using both the 100,000,000 souls of the Ka'an people that make up his being,[1] but also the blood and souls of a billion people that he's consumed throughout his life.[1] He can also summon spirits and skeletons not of the Ka'an, such as when he battled Chaldea in Itztépetl, the second Underworld, though he admits that said summoning is difficult to pull off.[7] Nitocris explains that the number of dead spirits is far greater than the number of revived skeletons, enough that even an inexperienced necromancer could succeed in getting them to possess the skeletons, but that for every 1 spirit that obeys Camazotz, 99 are ignoring him. While this is assumed to be indicative of Camazotz's inexpertise as a necromancer, it doesn't pose a problem due to the temple ruins only having over 100,000 cadavers buried underground. During combat, the skeletons form a true iron-tight defense which makes it impossible for Koyanskaya of Light to snipe Camazotz from afar. Mash Kyrielight also states that she can only force her way a few meters through, but not much further than that. Tepeu is able to act as a decoy and endure their attacks thanks to his large, sturdy, and hard-to-injure body. Nitocris was able to jam Camazotz's signal with the call of death, causing him to lose control over his familiars.[1]
In battle, he is represented by a massive dark-brown ghost named as Evil God Camazotz (悪神カマソッソ?) with blue and purple flames that form skulls that emit from his hands. He attacks by stiring them up with his hands before slicing the air and launching multiple magical slashes at his targetswith or by conjuring a ball of blue, white and black flames before blasting a beam of fire.[13]
His Skills are Bloodsucking (吸血?) and Blood Red Sickle Head (血濡れの鎌首?).[13]
His Noble Phantasm is God of Bats (蝙蝠の神?), where he conjures a ball of flames and magical energy before him before crushing it, releasing a powerful explosion at a place of his choosing. Any living beings caught in this explosion that survive will be poisoned, as well as have their blood leached by Camazotz to heal himself.[13]
Other Capabilities[]
- Using Command Spells that Tezcatlipoca took from Ritsuka Fujimaru and gave to Camazotz, Camazotz can transform Chaldea's Servants into Alter versions.[6]
- Camazotz has supernatural hearing capable of listening to the people at the Ka'an ruins or Chichén Itzá from the Underworld.[1]
Forms and Alternate Versions[]
Beast
[]
Beast
(often stylized as Beast I: Lost) (ビースト
?) is a Beast-class Servant appearing in the South American Lostbelt. This is described as Camazotz's true self, the form he used to defeat ORT.[1]
As a Beast, the Evil of Humanity he represents is the Logos of Oblivion (忘却, Bōkyaku?), but the title card for his Logos in his first encounter is blurred and glitches between Salvation (救世, Guze?), Exoneration (免罪, Menzai?), Sacrifice (犠牲, Gisei?) and Pity (憐憫, Renbin?).[1]
Appearance[]
Camazotz' Beast form.
In its true form, the gigantic bat has multiple tentacles similar to its tongue spawning from the body. The point of these tentacles can open in four parts, having a blue tone in its tips. The mouth can open beyond the bat head, opening its neck and torso, showing even more teeth and additional tongues inside it. The horn and eyes also shines in a blue color beyond its initial appearance.
Abilities[]
As a Beast, Camazotz's combat ability is great enough to defeat ORT with the help of Xquic and the Ka'an battleships.[5][1] 6 million years ago, the Deinos and Malla were unable to face ORT due to the mini sun which used to power Mictlan having run out of energy 100,000 years before. The only ones who could battle ORT were the warriors of the Ka'an Kingdom.[11] Desperate for survival, the people of Ka'an sacrificed themselves and every Nature Spirit of Malla invested their power[14] to empower Camazotz, its king, which not only granted him over 100,000,000 Saint Graphs,[1] but also allowed him to undergo extensive body modifications and curses to the point he couldn't die.[5] Despite ORT absorbing the Cosmic Tree Ceiba/Fantasy Tree Quasar as a source of energy after being cornered by Ka'an,[1][11] Camazotz was able to defeat him. Camazotz favored spears, so his final move was a focused stab to the core at the center of the UFO, done through full-power flight. He was almost erased in the process, with his legs, torso, and head pulverized, but only the right hand gripping the spear survived, thus ORT's flying saucer fell to the Xibalba ground.[14] After its body was thrown to the lava and its reactor core gouged out,[5][1] ORT was left on the verge of death, allowing Malla to force it into dormancy.[12]
U-Olga Marie states that Camazotz is one of the only three enemies capable of opposing her in the South American Lostbelt.[15]
- Combat
Camazotz claims that the only weapon he possesses is his Authority of Imperishability (不死身?) which makes him completely Immortal. Even if the sun in Mictlan disappeared or the planet itself was destroyed, Camazotz would still exist. Nitocris states that, as he is representative of the human history of Mictlan, so long as this duty, this Curse remains, he can never be defeated. This Authority was enabled by having forgotten everything until nothing remains of the past, and so allowing the present to move forward without pain, sorrow, or trace of himself. Nitocris realises this means he has forgotten everything there is to forget without granting himself a single thing, being careful not to remember the past lest he wish to take his own life. A self-imposed punishment of undying perpetuity so that his lost human history remains safe. Thus, the ability is only active as long as Camazotz doesn't remember his past. This was the only weapon he had in his battle against ORT 6 million years ago.[1] After gouging out ORT's core, only Camazotz's spear and the right arm gripping it were left behind in Xibalba. Camazotz can't die, so he eventually regenerated from the arm.[14]
Camazotz can summon a swarm of bats that absorb light, causing a thick darkness in the area they cover. Habetrot is able to scatter them away with Black Barrel while keeping its output within a level where it doesn't collapse the cave they were in.[1]
Camazotz dominates his first battle against Chaldea, which was comprised of Nitocris, Mash Kyrielight, Wakchan, Tepeu, Habetrot, and Da Vinci at the time. During their second battle, Nitocris transforms into Nitocris Alter and, due to an earlier foolish wage made between her and Camazotz, takes control of the Fourth Underworld from him. She forms a new decree so that those inside her domain are forbidden from forgetting anything and successfully removes Camazotz's invulnerability. Thanks to Camazotz becoming susceptible to damage and Nitocris Alter aiding in battle to the point she ran out of Magical Energy, Chaldea finally defeats and fatally wounds Camazotz.[1] Tezcatlipoca believes the reason Camazotz was beaten was due to having previously used a ton of Magical Energy to transform Beni-enma, Kingprotea, and Ereshkigal into Alters.[11]
Camazotz was powerful enough to turn Tlaloc into mincemeat with a single blow.[10] Tlaloc inside Aztlán, the land of origin, becomes stronger than ever, to the point Da Vinci claims she surpasses Camazotz defense despite not being the attacker he was.[11]
In battle, he can conjure massive, bright blue flames around himself, or imbue his limbs with them to attack his enemies. He also regularly uses his great size and speed to trample his targets with running charges, coating his limbs in flames of bright blue, dark blue, black and red while doing so, leaving a path of destruction. He can enlarge his head tentacles to far larger than a person and extend them to reach out and crush his targets in a wide area; these tentacles he can also imbue with flames like his limbs for an explosive impact. He can consume a few of his summoned bats in order to boost his power or his regeneration in a burst of dark red and black flames.[13]

Noble Phantasms[]
The Beast I: Lost first Noble Phantasm is Dedicate to the King of the Underworld, the Fresh Blood of the Fierce Sacrifice (冥界王へ捧げよ、猛き贄の鮮血を, Meikai-ō e sasageyo, takeki nie no senketsu o?), where he summons a flood of light-absorbing bats to cloak himself and the battlefield in darkness, blinding his opponents, allowing him to suddenly sneak up in front of them and take a massive, tearing, poisonous bite out of his enemies.
His second Noble Phantasm is The Scythe that Beheads Those Who Cannot Worship the Sun (日輪拝めぬ斬首鎌, Nichirin ogamenu zanshu kama?), where he inhales a number of his bats before he vomits out a massive amount of blood, which he forms into a proportionally sized-up scythe with a crooked handle. He then grabs the scythe before stabbing down at his target before pulling back with a slash and a spray of blood.[13]
Development[]
Camazotz's title King of Braves is a reference to the anime The King of Braves GaoGaiGarWP. His voice actor Nobuyuki HiyamaWP also played the main protagonist Gai Shishioh in that series.
Creation and Conception[]
Camazotz was designed by Routo Usagi in Fate/Grand Order. [16]
Reception[]
Notes[]
- ↑ It should be noted that the term "Beast I: Lost" does not appear within the game text of Fate/Grand Order, or in any official material. The term is a fandom-only name used for the sake of writing clarity in English, derived from the official Beast title of Koyanskaya, a similar Lostbelt Beast. Official text renders Camazotz's Beast title as "Beast I" alone, with the "I" heavily stylized to have a "cracked" appearance (
), which cannot be easily represented in conventional fonts.
