Caster (キャスター, Kyasutā?) is a Caster-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.

Caster's True Name is Helena Blavatsky (エレナ・ブラヴァツキー, Erena Buravatsukī?). Her full name is Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. A female occultist of the 19th Century, a founder of theosophy. One of the leaders in modern occultism. She is popularly known as Madame Blavatsky.[1][2]

A prodigious magus born as a mutation. Although she married a Russian aristocrat at a young age, she would immediately elope to live gorgeously in the magic world.[1][2] In her lifetime, Helena wandered from place to place throughout many high societies, networked with geniuses endowed with a strong individuality such as Bell and Edison, and occasionally argued with the Mage’s Association and authorities in every direction, having excelled at mediating these sorts of things.[1]

Immersing herself in mysticism out of belief of the existence of the Lemurian continent that was said to be a land erased in the ancient times, Helena came in contact with a higher existence, “Mahatma”, and its collective body, “Hierarchy”, having acquired many wisdoms in the process————If that is surely the case, it may not be known that she might have caught sight of a possibility towards the Root.[1][2]

She called the pioneers who have reached the Root as “Mahatma” and “Hierarchy”, and stipulated (assumed) that they are higher existences. Helena herself says that she always felt their messages, but for others to feel the same thing, it seems that the same kind of ability (special Magic Circuits) she possesses is needed. It is highly likely that neither the Lemurian continent nor Mahatma actually exist, and she is “merely a prodigy who performed a peculiar interpretation of the world.[1][2] Up to her last moments, she could not reach an agreement with London’s Mage’s Association.[1]

Helena has violet hair and eyes. Apparently due to mage craft, she spent most of her life appearing as a young woman, taking this form as a servant. She would use a glamour to appear an old woman in public. She wears primarily black clothes with white lace collar and sleeves and red highlights, along with a red belt. She wears black ribbons in her hair for her first ascension, trading them for a black and red cap on her second and adding a large black and red cape on her third. Her dress is emblazoned with a gold symbol on the chest, most likely a symbol of the Theosophical Society.

An eternal magical girl who is kind to others and yet strict to herself. In addition, if in a place where many Servants congregate, Helena's nature is seemingly reflected as that of a "meddlesome mother/elder sister that is helpful in taking care of others."[1]

However, one should not forget that Helena too is still a genius endowed with a strong self-assertion. Towards an “ordinary person” who does not understand the concepts of Mahatma and Hierarchy, it seems that they will not particularly attract her interest, but if in the case where once she recognizes them “having promise” of understanding those concepts, it seems she will not let her target get away easily.[1]

It appears————Helena has many wishes she would like to make on the Holy Grail. She says that she cannot narrow them down to one, but it is unknown what is actually the case.[1][2]

"... You are really nothing but unknowns, Madame Blavatsky."[2]

Don’t you think that a woman of many mysteries is fine? Yes, that’s not it. There is only one truth, which the people cannot perceive; everything is known by Mahatma![1][2]

Edison and Nikola Tesla
Like as how it was before, Helena is on good terms with Edison who lived in her lifetime and had a connection with her. She regards the relationship between Edison and Nikola Tesla and their eternal rivalry. "Seriously now, even up to becoming Heroic Spirits?..." was her comment from an elder sister's point of view.[1]
Nursery Rhyme
At any rate, remembering "Alice in Wonderland" when she looks at her, she feels complicated. To say it plainly, it is not a pleasant feeling. This is because of the time when she met Charles Dodgson, also known as Lewis Carroll, the author of "Alice", who was a warm supporter of the SPR (the United Kingdom's Society of Psychical Research). As a Heroic Spirit, Helena Blavatsky is relatively calmer, but she cannot get used to being kind to those authorities who chased after her during her lifetime. Regarding this matter, she says "Even now, I still detest them."[1]
Arthur Conan Doyle
Although Sir Conan Doyle was a supporter of the SPR, no matter how many times, his reaction is always kind. “Mr. Doyle is by no means a bad person. Uhh, but of course, he… was an official of the SPR, huh… Eh? Of course, I understand that Mr. Holmes isn’t a bad person![1]
Indian Heroic Spirits
To Helena, India is her second home… or rather, it is even like the home of her soul. She wants to do something like getting along with them.[1]

Fate/Grand OrderEdit

E Pluribus Unum: The Grand Battle of Legends in North AmericaEdit

Helena is a member of the American forces serving under Thomas Edison. Helena and Karna confront Ritsuka Fujimaru, Mash Kyrielight and Florence Nightingale and takes them to Edison after Karna knocks them out. After they refuse to join Edison's forces, they are trapped in the prison by Helena, although they manage to later escape.

Later on, when Edison is about to go on a rampage while fighting the Protagonist's party, Helena and Karna manage to calm him down and convince him to ally with the Resistance that the Protagonist´s party are a part of. Helena is made one of the leaders of the northern United American and Resistance army, participating in the battle against the Celtic forces.

A Magical Girl's Travelogue ~Prisma Causeway~Edit

Salomon: The Grand Time TempleEdit

Helena is one of the "E Pluribus Unum" Servants assisting Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillars.[3]

Agartha: The Mythical Subterranean SocietyEdit

When the Agartha Singularity manifested, Helena disappeared from Chaldea and entered the Singularity.[4] Shortly after finding Peach Blossom Springs, she encountered and was soon betrayed by Christopher Columbus.[5] After being shot in the back, she fell into a river which saved her life. Once Helena had recovered, she continued her exploration of the underground regions, eventually finding the Holy Grail. When the Singularity was collapsing after the defeat of Phenex, Helena reunited with Chaldea's group and used her flying saucer to carry the survivors of the Resistance to safety.[6]

Upon manifesting, Helena will always create multiple copies of miniature automata patterned after “Colonel Olcott”, the right-hand man who once served her, conveniently using them for this and that instead of maids. Incidentally, they are not very suitable for combat.[1][2]

As a Servant, Helena materializes as an all-rounder Caster who manipulates many magecrafts, of the ancient times to the modern era, that became a foundation for theosophy via her Skill Mahatma.[1][2] She calls the pioneers who had reached the Root as “Mahatma”, stipulating that they are beings of a higher order. She employs a multitude of Thaumaturgy Foundations that are engraved into the World, thinking that————she is manipulating powerful magecraft by borrowing power from the Mahatma. It is unknown if it is true that some higher being is providing her that power, or if she just has extremely special Magic Circuits.[1]

Although Helena can even so far as manipulate the Holy Church’s Baptism Rites to the Ancient Egyptian Magecrafts, as expected, it seems that those ancient magecrafts are not really her forte.[1][2] The magecraft that can also be used via Mahatma include Summoning, Black Magics, Alchemy, Formalcraft (Elemental Conversion), Rune Magecraft, and so on, covering many divergences.[1]

Also, by employing multiple Thaumaturgy Foundations simultaneously, Helena can even "miraculously" succeed in manipulating extremely powerful magecraft. Because it is essential for a lot of luck and chance to factor in this as well, it can be concluded that this simultaneous employment does not always work every time, so the effect becomes as such: “the invocation of extremely powerful magecraft sometimes occur.[1]

Helena can perform magical attacks by means of chanting. She can also perform distant magical attacks not because of using attributes such as wind and fire, but by means of projecting pure magical energy. Specifically, a book (secret doctrine) floats around and fires beams with a ‘bang![1]

Forms and Alternate VersionsEdit

All of a sudden, both outfit & class undergo a Mahatma Change! Bestowed with a new Noble Phantasm by borrowing the powers of the Lord Sanat Kumara, and materializing the Kumara Wheel for the race, Helena Blavatsky challenges the Summer Event![7]

"Wielding the stylish NYARF Water Gun, I'm gonna scatter any rivals lined up!"[7]

"Just so you know, the production of NYARF was by me!"[7]

"The improvisations were done by me you blockhead!"[7]

"Whether I'm an Archer or a Rider, sometimes I kind of can't tell" so Helena says with some embarrassment.[7]

Helena's primary reason for participating in the race is, "To have fun!"[7]

"Of course, it's not as if the thought of winning hadn't crossed my mind..."[7]

If victory seems possible, Helena will wholeheartedly aim towards winning - this is her approach. But of course, this is still the cautious Helena, who tries not to rush in unprepared. For this time's Helena, her inner Big Sister disposition, or Motherly disposition (or perhaps Grandma) may be slightly more apparent than usual.[7]

As much has happened to Helena, both Edison and Tesla thought it was imperative to have her undergo a "stress dispersal." That is why they entered the race. That is why she is to act as she pleases. Helena resolved to accept their concerns for her. In short————disperse her stress, and fully enjoy Summer Vacation to her heart's content![7]

"I'm going to relieve my inner child and have lots of fun this summer" is what Helena strongly tells herself... It is what she is indeed doing, but as a result, somehow, it feels as though that ancient move is much older than usual...?[7]

Rider (ライダー, Raidā?) is an Fate/Grand Order Arcade exclusive event Servant.

Caster's Draft Design

Creation and ConceptionEdit

Matsuryu is the character illustrator for Helena Blavatsky.[1][2][7] He released Helena's draft design on Twitter.[8] Hikaru Sakurai is the scenario writer for her character.[1]

Comment from IllustratorEdit

"At first, I was designing a concept of a beautiful Russian girl in a military uniform, but I settled down with the current design after having a briefing session with Mr. Takeuchi. Concerning the results, I think it resulted in her appearing more like a Caster, but I did not think her Noble Phantasm would unexpectedly become something like that (LOL)."[1]
