The King of Steam (蒸気王, Jōki-Ō?), a mathematician turned scientist from the 19th century who dreamed about the revolution of the world. He was known as a prodigious great scholar, employing a steam engine to invent the first computers in the world, the Difference Engine and the Analytical Engine.
Although known as the father of the computer in modern times, he died halfway through his projects, leaving both machines uncompleted and having his envisioned future "vanish into the threshold of the eras."
Caster possesses a strict personality, but displays a weakness towards innocent females and astute females.
During life, he possessed a dream of a "possible future" that vanished with his death, but that future manifests with him in his current form.
He wishes to use the Holy Grail for the "the advent of a world of steam civilization", but also feels that the modern world itself is not too bad after acquiring knowledge of it upon being summoned. He can be described as a "reliable ally" depending on the nature of his Master.

Fourth Singularity: London
Commanded by Solomon, Babbage, Makiri Zolgen, and Paracelsus von Hohenheim join together to destroy the era regardless of their lamentations towards the incineration of humanity. They invaded the Clock Tower through its entrance in the British Museum, which was destroyed in the process, and kill all the mages there to remove any opposition. After his group created a chamber deeper underground, Babbage constructed a massive steam engine dubbed Angrboda, which uses the Holy Grail as its power source. Angrboda then released the Demonic Fog on to the city to eventually destroy the era. Babbage’s Dimension of Steam is responsible for the Helter Skelter robots that roam London. Because of the Singularity’s distortions he is considered alive despite being a Servant that materialized from the fog.
He is present alongside Makiri when Paracelsus returns to Angrboda's chamber to report Jack the Ripper's loss. As the three agree to continue the project, Babbage laments they cannot follow the scholar's destiny to pave the path for the world and civilization due to the Incineration of Humanity.
Babbage is later found by Ritsuka, Mash, and Mordred thanks to Frankenstein leading them. He introduces himself as a leader of Project Demonic Fog and reveals he materialized from the fog. He laments the Incineration of Humanity while revealing the Helter Skelters manifest from him. Mordred tells him to hear what Frankenstein has to say. Babbage prepares to surrender when he goes berserk against the group due to Makiri using the Grail. After he is defeated, Babbage tells the group to head deep underground, where they’ll find Angrboda, the fog’s source powered by the Grail. He apologizes to Frankenstein, saying he is merely an improbable Servant of irrelevant thoughts. He then disappears confessing he doesn’t wish to end the world even though his dream will not be realized.
Event: Saber Wars
Babbage, Sakata Kintoki, and Nikola Tesla locate Mysterious Heroine X's ship, having been told it's a source of evil by a voice from a lens that fell from the sky. Babbage finds the ship flawed or incomplete, noting the lack of cogwheels, a lubricator, and a steam engine. He, therefore, decides he must reconstruct the ship himself. He, Kintoki, and Tesla then fight Ritsuka's party after EMIYA asks Artoria Lily to demonstrate how she has improved. After the fight, Babbage finds it nostalgic for a Servant to dream, though he understands from his experiences in London that dreams are a human privilege. He then warns Ritsuka and Artoria Lily that X's ship isn't a transporter of dreams and disappears.

Upon manifesting as a Heroic Spirit, Caster has become an existence close in nature to his Noble Phantasm, the Reality Marble Dimension of Steam. Sublimating the future of which he dreamed, his body is wrapped in the "possible future" in a "form of grotesque steel" and concealed in the "form of a grotesque world." Constantly wrapped in a "grotesque steam engine-made full-body mechanical armor", the Mechanical Armor skill grants a rank up to the Strength and Endurance attributes and bestows "++" modifiers to three parameters by means of a boost function brought about by the armor. Following several modifications made by Moriarty, he can also shapeshift into a fully functional locomotive.
