Chen GongWP (陳宮WP, Chin Kyū?), Class Name Caster (キャスター, Kyasutā?), is a Caster-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
He is a strategist, who was known to serve Lu Bu in the Three KingdomsWP era. He is the inventor of God Force.
A military commander from the end of China's Han Dynasty. A man from Dongbuyang County, Zhengzhou East County (currently Xuan County, Liaocheng City, Shandong Province). A solitary strategist who won fame during the world's turbulent times.
He faithfully served Cao CaoWP, who later became supreme ruler, although he betrayed him for Lu Bu, who was revered as a lord during troubled times and competed with Cao Cao for supremacy. After several defeats, he lost his life alongside Lu Bu in Pizhou. In his last moments, he personally spoke with Cao Cao before his sentence was carried out. In the world of "Fate", Chen Gong was a descendant of the Zhou Dynasty, China's oldest civilization. He was an engineer who inherited literature and technology. Nonetheless, humans cannot handled the weapons of the Zhou Dynasty.
If the body has no Mystery (that is, no magic circuit), it is because it cannot handle it, Chen Gong was riduculed for his "worthless knowledge." His whole body and spirit were brimming with anger while endeavoring to develop chinese gadgets when he saw Lu Bu, "Ah! I found that person." Because Lu Bu also suffered from uncontrollable fervor, Chen Gong prepared familiar weapons, his anger also calmed down, and Lu Bu became more and more trustworthy of Chen Gong.
Appearance[]
He has a heavy resemblance to Rani VIII, Lu Bu's Master in Fate/Extra.
Personality[]
A sadist who calms Lu Bu's stare. An aggressive scholar character. Suppressing fear on the battlefield with reason, a man of reason like iron. A brave warrior, a cold strategist, a stubborn person who never bends his belief. For the sake of victory in battle, he will use any facade, betrayal, and shady plan as a matter of course.
While accepting the other party's opinions and reasons fairly, "But I don't think so", he sometimes refuses and crushes them thoroughly. He looks like a ruthless machine in order to face the enemy without a human heart.
Relationships[]
- Lü Bu
- "Ah, my invincible lord! I didn't imagine the Flying General to also be here! He is the very epitome of terror! I so very much want Lord Lu Bu to wreak havoc, I cannot contain myself!"[2]
- Chen Gong’s lord who he has the most difficulty with, who he treats as the most useful, and who he was most charmed by.
- “If General Lü happens to desire such things, then it cannot be helped, you know? ————Well, humans will lose someday. And that day was today.” That is the story when General Lü desires something.”[1]
- Red Hare
- "I didn't think Red Hare counted as a Heroic Spirit... No, I do admit that thirty percent of Lord Lu Bu's success happened thanks to Red Hare. I do understand, but... Why does that horse think he is Lü Bu?"[2]
- Lü Bu’s favourite horse was summoned as a Heroic Spirit for some reason. In order to ascertain that fact, Chen Gong rushed over to Chaldea.
- “Hahahahaha. Well, depending on how you look at it, that thing can even look like Lord Lü Bu. As one would expect, the anecdotes of the Flying General under Heaven are profound. As long as you can even self-destruct for me, yes… I do not in the least care about anything else then.”[1]
- Zhuge Liang
- "Hmph. Zhuge Liang is merely a strategist who was blessed with good battles. He has no eye for people, and he never had any disciples. He's just a monster of internal affairs. He's the very example of how troublesome it is for someone whose talents stand out only during his time."[2]
- Sima Yi
- "Sima Yi, huh... The one who was probably the most successful among all of us strategists... I hate to admit it, but even I cannot nitpick at their accomplishments. But...to be manifested as a Pseudo-Servant in the guise of a beautiful girl... It will be quite challenging to ask her for advice."[2]
- Regarding the strategists whom appeared in the Three Kingdoms Period, this person was the most successful one among them. Even for Chen Gong, who finds out the flaws of someone without fail – no matter what sort of magnificent figure they are – and euphemistically points out those flaws, he can only hold his tongue in front of Sima Yi.
- “… Well, if I was still alive back then, I might have criticized him by saying “It is difficult to approach him because that flawlessness of his which surpasses Zhuge Liang is too impeccable”, but… goodness gracious, for him to select a good-looking girl as his vessel is something unexpected. Even if it was for fun, I was completely defeated already. He is surely impregnable I tell you.”[1]
Role[]
Fate/EXTELLA[]
Chen Gong appears as a voice in Lu Bu's ending of Fate/EXTELLA. He dissuades Lu Bu from betraying Tamamo-no-Mae just yet, telling him to wait and bide his time first.
Fate/Grand Order[]
SIN: Land of Unified Knowledge[]
When the Lostbelt's leyline connects to the Throne, Red Hare and Chen Gong materialize in a forest as Stray Servants.[3]
In their search for a Master, the pair encounter and destroy many automatons. Soon they notice Ritsuka's party, so Red Hare fights them to prove if Ritsuka is strong enough to be his Master. Once Ritsuka proves they are, Red Hare and Chen Hong accepts them as their Master. The group are then contacted by Leonardo da Vinci, who explains she and the others are being detained at Ankang. She also reveals Goredolf Musik is now unconscious from Koyanskaya’s poison. Sherlock Holmes further reveals that Vitch is also a prisoner.[4]
The group reaches the detention center undetected thanks to Da Vinci’s stealth device. Jing Ke sneaks into the facility, while the others cause havoc at the front gate. Soon they hear a commotion from inside and deduce Jing Ke successfully freed the Border crew and Vitch. They then enter the facility to rendezvous with them. Prince of Lanling and guards appear to thwart their escape when Vitch summons a Jotun with her hair. While it deals with the guards, the group fight Lanling. After Hinako Akuta uses her last Command Spell, a bomb explodes beneath her. She suddenly drains Lanling’s Sprit Core through his blood, revealing herself to be like a True Ancestor. Her form is now different, with her injuries healed. Lanling reveals she is Yu Mei-ren before disappearing.[5] Yu Mei-ren easily overwhelms the group when she retreats after speaking with Shi Huang.[6]
After escaping Ankang, Vitch is tied by her hands and feet. She gives the antidote to her poison, but there is only one dose. Goredolf is given the antidote since his condition is worse compared to Ritsuka. Sherlock then deduces Vitch came to the Lostbelt because of the Fusang Tree. She reveals her poison was distilled from it, and it no longer exists in the Proper History. She came to the Lostbelt after learning Fusang Tree was discovered and preserved there by Hinako, as an antidote could be distilled from it.[6]
The group are then approached by the Qin's counterfeit Shadow Borders. After destroying the vehicles, they rendezvous Mordred and Nezha while en route towards Xianyang.[7] Arriving in Xianyang, Ritsuka's party kill Liangyu.[8] Afterwards, they enter Epang Palace’s Ministry of Technology to find the Shadow Border there. They defeat Han Xin and Li Shuwen, and take the the Shadow Border to the Fusang Tree.[9]
They reach the treasury when they're confronted by Xiang Yu and Yu Mei-ren. Sherlock realizes the Fusang Tree is the Fantasy Tree, which Vitch reveals is called Mayall. After Xiang Yu and Yu Mei-ren are defeated, Vitch has Mayall activate. She reveals it has existed within the Fusang Tree, spreading its roots without exposing itself. Realizing he was told the truth about the prune phenomenom, Qin Shi Huang declares he will prune all other worlds. Vitch then teleports away, and the Epang Palace crashes near Mayall.[10]
Shi Huang appears from the ruins now in humanoid form and fights Ritsuka's party to see whose world will continue. He is defeated and entrusts the future to Chaldea. Xiang Yu rejects the emperor’s decision, though, and fights the group despite his wounds. In maddened grief from his death, Yu Mei-ren allows Mayall to absorb her. After Yu Mei-ren is absorbed, Mayall is fully awakened, and begins emitting cosmic radiation. Da Vinci reveals a galaxy exists inside the Tree, and Sherlock suspects it connects to another world. With Shi Huang’s aid, Mayall is destroyed and Yu Mei-ren is ejected from it. Shi Huang convinces her to consider aiding Chaldea in the future. After Yu Mei-ren disappears, Chen Gong tells Shi Huang he could have joined forces with her to defend Mayall if he really wanted to protect the Lostbelt. Shi Huang answers that he might have done so if Yu Mei-ren revealed Mayall much sooner, but he's already abdicated in Ritsuka' favor. Chen Gong and Red Hare then begin to disappear. Chen Gong tells Ritsuka that he will ask them to prove their strength when they next meet, as he will know they are a Master worth following. He reminds a confused Red Hare that he is indeed Red Hare and disappears.[10]
Abilities[]
He utilizes Magecraft to help him fly, deploy explosions, call forth tidal waves or volleys of arrows, and summon various siege weapons like trebuchets and battering rams to attack his foes. He is also a talented swordsman, being able to use a swift Chinese Dual-Jian fighting style.
He uses Fangshi Magecraft, though not much.[11]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Territory Creation (C Rank): As a Mage, one can create an advantageous position for themselves. In addition to being able to prepare a Workshop that is used by military commanders to coordinate among themselves, Chen Gong also has a deep knowledge of tactical formations for times of war. However, since those tactical formations fundamentally use a general who possesses super-armed might as their reference point, the generality of those formations being employed effectively is low.[1]
- Item Construction (B Rank): One can create devices tinged with Magical Energy. Although they turn out to be simple mechanisms, Lord Chen Gong can plan out devices such as tools made for castle sieging, so he really is an intelligent gentleman…[1]
Personal Skills[]
- Scapegoat (E Rank): A technique that works as an even more narrow version of Human Observation. It excels in ascertaining whether or not the human that became the target of this Skill will have their talents potentially bloom in the future – no matter what form they would take – and whether or not they will acquire a super-armed might of the type with a single breakthrough point.[1]
- Tactician's Advice (B++ Rank): A Skill given to Strategist Servants. By grasping and analyzing the state of affairs, one can give the correct advice to their allies. This Skill originally stopped at “Rank B”, but there is now a “+” modifier, derived from the fact that Lü Bu obeyed Chen Gong. In do-or-die situations, it possesses the possibility for Chen Gong to give “advice to his lord” that are better than those given out by Kongming.[1]
- Tactician's Desire (A Rank): Chen Gong ran through the battlefield together with the "Hero of Betrayal" Lü Bu. Although Chen Gong is cold-hearted/cool-headed, he is also endowed with the beliefs and passions of a military man just like that. An oath from his soul to “die for the sake of his lord” and to “die together with his lord.” In other words, that became the long-cherished desire of the strategist. It is a “Hero Creation” that can be done by Chen Gong, but limited to only Berserker-Class Servants.[1]
Noble Phantasm[]
Chen Gong's Noble Phantasm is Two-Pronged Formation.
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Chen Gong was designed by Arco Wada in Fate/Grand Order. His scenario writer is Kinoko Nasu in Fate/Grand Order.[1]
Comment from Illustrator[]
"I got to formally go through Chen Gong’s design thoroughly, building upon his drifting design I drew in Lü Bu’s ED (Ending) in Fate/EXTELLA. His face is a rendition of Sugishita Ukyou’s face from around the time where the detective appeared in the AIBOU preseason!!! I decided on making him sexy, given that I was given a specification in designing him as though he was a fiendish strategist with glasses. It’s my own subjective view of the specification given to me. During his FGO debut, finding out that he was really that kind of character was so unthinkable to me, I laughed very, very hard so much. And because of that, I laughed hard just as much again when I actually gave him a try in-game too." (Arco Wada)[1]
