The Concept of Death (死の概念, Shi no Gainen?) is the innate ability to die, conceptually tied to nearly all existences on Earth.

Characteristics[]

Normally, every existence that has a "Beginning" must have an "End" — an "ending time" pre-determined at its point of creation. Such an end is concretized as the Concept of Death that all living things possess: from animals to humans, to the various fantasy beings that originate from age-old myths. At the same time, the Concept of Death is not limited just to that which is conventionally "alive" but applies also to things that, while sentient, have no life in the traditional sense: e.g., the Dead and Spirits without life.

What is more, inanimate structures like walls, locks, and other objects with a "function" also carry the Concept of Death, as do things that have little to no concrete form, e.g.: ESP and Magecraft, such as Bounded Fields, as well as diseases, the very air that organisms breathe, or forces of nature like windstorms and typhoons. Regarding natural phenomena, while it is possible to impose the Concept of Death upon individual events to disperse them, it is impossible to outright "kill" the phenomenon itself (e.g., while one might "end" an individual storm, applying the Concept of Death to the very concept of storms cannot be done).

The Concept of Death can be "interacted" with under certain circumstances, such as by bearers of the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. Said Mystic Eyes, descended from the Authority of the Celtic God Balor, can perceive and bring about the "End" of any existence that bears the Concept of Death. The Concept of Death also can be weaponized. Grand Assassin King Hassan was able to grant Tiamat a Concept of Death, and taught Beni-enma Alter how to do so.

Beings without a Concept of Death are immortal and immune to the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception.[1]

As a completely alien lifeform, One Radiance Thing lacks a Concept of Death and is unable to die by natural means, and must be destroyed physically.[1] Tezcatlipoca describes life as something one can die. Even if it's a machine, if it can die it can be considered alive. Regular life, even if every part of its body is replaced with an identical functional copy of itself, will not return to life after having died. Even with advances in medical technology, if a being's heart or brain is destroyed, that being will die. ORT is less like a lifeform and more like a phenomenon, something that refuses to die. Even if it dies, ORT will eventually reactivate as long as its shape remains, and do so automatically with no limit to what can be healed. Each and every one of its cells, from its toes to its nervous system to its brain to its heart, are all considered equally unimportant to ORT as every one of its cell contains every one of its functions.[2]

Characters without a Concept of Death[]

  • Arcueid Brunestud (Remake) — Thanks to being a True Ancestor, Arcueid can draw power from the World without limit. Due to this, she is close to being a perfect life form that doesn't even carry a Concept of Death.[3][4] As her powers derive from the World itself, in order to kill Arcueid, a Conceptual Weapon with the power to kill the World itself is needed.[3][4] As such a type of weapon doesn't exist, her "death" cannot be caused by external factors.[3]
  • ORT (Lostbelt) — Despite being a living organism, ORT lacks a biological "death". Unlike Humans who will not "reactivate" once their bodies "cease to function", machines like ORT can function again if their parts are reassembled and/or artificial organs are installed to substitute the lost ones. Due to this, even if ORT dies once, as long as its shape remains, it will eventually reactivate.[citation needed] ORT can only be stopped if its entire body is destroyed.[1]
  • Tiamat
  • Ultimate Ones — Each of the Types not only lack the concept of damage, but also the Concept of Death. The only way for them to be harmed and destroyed is for something above common sense to exist on the planet, but the resulting "death" is not necessarily permanent.

    [v] Character Material - ORT, p.070-071

    Introduction - ORT
Details unknown. Apparently landed in South America before the Common Era. As an attack-type lifeform, boasts power on a level far beyond anything else. The former 5th Ancestor attempted to capture it and was killed in seconds. Afterwards, treated as an Ancestor when it was discovered to have vampiric like properties.
Alien entity some 40 meters tall covered with outer skin that is harder, more flexible, more temperature resistant, and sharper than any other substance on the surface.
Said that as long as the battleground is earth, it has no weakness.
In addition to the ridiculously high attack parameters of the main body, it also possesses a special ability similar to Reality Marbles - Crystal Valley.

    Explanation - Crystal Valley
Invasion by a horrifying but beautiful landscape.
While some magi and the 27 Ancestors control internal worlds called "Reality Marbles", the one that ORT has is on a completely different level.
ORT is a "visitor from another planet".
By just him (?) being there, the Earth is changing to the environment he lived in. That is, the rewriting of physical laws, a leaking of his "alien order/system".
If man is that which destroys the planet, then ORT is an invader that paints the earth world into an alien planet.
Well, thankfully ORT's a good-for-nothing spider that doesn't intend to hurt the planet...but....well, it might just be because he's (?) not interested in invading
But alas, of course nobody would understand the circumstances of ORTy, so bigshots from a lotta agencies try messing with (him) thinking that they'd better do something about Mr. Dangerous Lifeform as soon as possible......and end up getting annihilated instead.

    Explanation 02 - Memorandum
Base concept being "hopeless despair". If this was an RPG, ORTy would be the hidden boss that's stronger than the last boss. "WTF man, did you losers bother to think about game balance omgwtflolz?" No, no, it's your fault for messing with him (?).
ORT just can't learn the culture of earth, but it's thought that he(?) has the ability to partially simulate the creatures he preys on. But since this is just a simulation, even if he (?) said something humanish, that'd just be a repeat of something else. If you're searching for romance, it's your personal business.
Oh, and ORT thinks that the Earth life form that had the strongest flavor to it (in an ORTish sort of way) was the former 5th Apostle.
Just movement by ORT will cause the trees around him to crystallize, forming a crystal valley (spider web).
But as a side note, while ORT crystallising many trees simply by moving around was my early visual image for Crystal Valley, PFALZ's spider web idea for the Crystal Valley's river was amazing so I went with that. Also, many of the designs I asked PFALZ to create were based on the information in this book, which he compiled in an amusing way. He's like a rival, isn't he!? A super U.F.O. The strongest aggressive creature. It's an amazing design from another dimension! Or rather something that not even Arc win against!! Someone better get Ultram@n over here!

    Ultimate One of Mercury (?).

Companion to the Ultimate Ones that appear in the Sci-Fi short story Notes.... though due to some hick-up, this clutz has landed on Earth a bit early (about 5000 years or so).
The truth is... it's actually not one of the "ultimate species" that intercepted Earth's SOS signal, or something.

By the way, the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception can’t kill it. It does not possess the concept of death, so you'll have to destroy it physically.

    Introduction -

    Explanation -

    Explanation 02 -
