Dante AlighieriWP (ダンテ・アリギエーリWP, Dante Arigiēri?), Class Name Pretender (プリテンダー, Puritendā?), is a Pretender-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru during the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order. He summons Ruler Metatron Jeanne in the Reckoning Singularity.
Profile[]
Identity[]
A poet and philosopher from 13th and 14th century Italy who wrote the famous Divine ComedyWP, in which the main character, also named Dante Alighieri, travels through the Christian Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. The reason as to why he was assigned to the Pretender-class is because he is the real Dante who wrote the Divine Comedy pretending to be the fictional Dante from the book. There is no difference between the real and fictional Dante, however, besides that the fictional one experienced the events described in the story.[1]
Dante was also a politician, but political strife led to him getting exiled from FlorenceWP. His heartbreak over his banishment is written in the Divine Comedy. Also, the character Beatrice from the Divine Comedy is said to be based on a real woman named BiceWP. He spent his whole life wishing to return to Florence but never did. He died of malaria in RavennaWP in 1321.[1]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Dante tends to be cautious and feign ignorance, often playing stupid purpose, with Dante himself admitting that "it's just a character [he] is playing." That said, the very idea of pretending to be stupid could itself be seen as a kind of stupidity. Most of the time, he lets out a mysterious laugh to buy time while he thinks about what to say, though this is a genuine speech quirk of his, rather than something he does on purpose.[1]
Having already gone through the Divine Comedy, he now seeks to help his Master as the new protagonist, emulating VirgilWP, who guided him in through Divine Comedy. Dante is the kind of Servant who helps his Master when needed but lets his Master make their own life choices.[1]
His wish for the Holy Grail is to return to Florence, but since his desire for a unified Italy is already as complete as it can get, he doesn't have much he strongly wishes for it. He simply prays for peace in Italy.[1]
Relationships[]
- Leonardo da Vinci / Leonardo da Vinci (Rider)
- "OOOOH! Leonardo da Vinci, the treasure of Florence! The legendary genius of my neighborhood! Your predecessor couldn't be prouder! Would you be interested in working with me?"[2]
- Hans Christian Andersen
- "Andersen? The writer? Brilliant, if you're a child, you don't have to worry about deadlines... What a revolutionary idea! Huh, what? That doesn't stop him from having deadlines? Yikes, how awful..."[2]
- William Shakespeare
- "William Shakespeare, you say? That's an extrovert... An extrovert... Too much of an extrovert to have written MacbethWP or R&JWP... I was imagining a gloomier master of the pen... Huh? He gets more overcast the closer he gets to the deadline? Heheh... Much better! ...Not really."[2]
- Van Gogh
- "Van Gogh. A Foreigner Servant, associated with Outer Gods, huh. Heheh... I could make her draw a brand-new and original style of Hell. Are you fine with 20 pages on a weekly release? No? You think it'd destroy your mental health? Welp... I can't guarantee that it wouldn't."[2]
- Katsushika Hokusai
- "Hokusai. Oh, her Class is Foreigner? Her East Asian birth is way more relevant than that. Her unique perspective can paint a new style of Beatrice! Uh? "They're known for disregarding the writer's requests"? "Get ready to hear a 'Mind if I replace this mentor character for Tametomo?', or worse"? Heh...Heheh... I do mind. Traversing Hell alongside a robot is not very... On second thought, this might be crazy enough to work, maybe?"[2]
- Metatron Jeanne
- "Uh... Heheheh... who would have thought that Metatron Jeanne would be here too... I'm sorry for the trouble I caused back then... but I got in a lot of trouble to, so maybe we're even...? Ah, yes, I'm very sorry about the singularity. No, really, I'm really sorry! ...yes..."[3]
Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Courtroom for the Judgment of Mankind: Trinity Metatronius[]
Dante attempted to summon BeatriceWP, however that failed and Metatron Jeanne was summoned in her stead.[4]
Dante and James Moriarty run a law firm in the Reckoning Singularity. They are Chaldea's defense attorneys in the court case where Chaldea is being charged with genocide against the Lostbelts.
Abilities[]
His attack methods are summoning creatures from Hell which featured in the first chapter of the Divine Comedy, the InfernoWP, and using the Peccati Spada from the second chapter, the PurgatorioWP, as his main weapon.[1]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Independent Action (B+ Rank)
- Territory Creation (D++ Rank)
Personal Skills[]
- Wandering Through Three Worlds (EX Rank): The Skill conferred to Dante for wandering the three worlds of Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. It allows him to freely enter worlds which don't allow it to humans.[1]
- Stars in 100 Cantos (A+ Rank): Dante's Divine Comedy is a narrative divided in 3 cantiche (Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso) composed of 33 cantos, in a structure that constantly has the number 3 in mind. Adding the preface, that totals at 100 cantos with each cantiche ending with the word "stars".[1]
- Crests of Seven Sins (B Rank): Refers to the 7 Ps that an angel carved onto Dante's forehead in Purgatory. They disappear one by one every time he's purified from one of his sins, strengthening him for each sin he cleanses.[1]
Noble Phantasms[]
- Lasciate Ogne Speranza Voi Ch'intrate: It materializes the Gate of Hell, the most famous object in the Divine Comedy. When the gate opens, the hell beasts and sinners flood out. Every time the gate opens, Dante must endure despair. Should he fall to despair, the gate will remain open, allowing the demons to run rampant.[1]
- Peccati Spada: The broken-tipped sword of an angel sword of an angel which is designed mainly for offense rather than defense and used to carve the sins on Dante's forehead. By engraving sins as crests onto his target, the user can bring them various forms of peril, but if those sins are cleansed, the target becomes stronger. In Fate/Grand Order, Dante has forfeited the abilities that come with its True Name release.[1]
