Datsue-baWP (奪衣婆?) is the wife of Enma and adoptive mother of Beni-enma.[1]
Profile[]
Background[]
Datsue-ba was an oni of Hell tasked with collecting the fare used to pay the ferryman to cross the Sanzu RiverWP by stripping the dead of their clothing. She was the wife of Enma, and it was said she had been in Hell longer than Enma himself.[1]
Due to the circumstances of Beni-enma's death, she ended up working for Datsue-ba rather than being judged as a sinner in hell.[1] She served in Children's Limbo.[2] While treating her poorly, Beni-enma still served Datsue-ba faithfully, but Enma eventually adopted her after taking pity on her.[1]
Appearance[]
Datsue-ba is an elderly oni woman about the size of a normal human. Though she does not appear, she is represented by a silhouette of Ishtar due to her miserly ways.[1]
Personality[]
Datsue-ba is a miserly woman, exclaiming to Beni-enma, “If you're going to work here, you need to become my daughter. That way, I won't have to pay you.” The other denizens of Hell believed adopting a child to save money was too egregious, especially considering Beni-enma's past as a prostitute. It is said that due to her nature she inadvertently coined the Japanese for "money-grubber."[1]
Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
After the Enma-tei is fully restored, Beni-enma thinks about requesting her mother's help because the Sparrows won't be able to keep up with the workflow themselves, but they hastily reject the idea due to their dislike of her.[3]
