The Department of Spiritual Evocation, Eulyphis (降霊科, Kōrei-ka?) is the third (III) Department of the Clock Tower branch of the Mage's Association.
History[]
The Department's name, Eulyphis, comes from the name of its founder. As of modern day, it is still under Eulyphis jurisdiction, with Rufleus Nuada-Re Eulyphis acting as its Lord as of the early 2000s.[1] Every head of the Department of Spiritual Evocation is chosen from a different branch family and subsequently adopted into the Eulyphis family.[2]
The current heir to lordship is Rufleus' son, Bram Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri.[3] Rocco Belfeban, Dean of the subordinate Department of Summoning, serves as a "Proxy Lord" at times.[4]
Characteristics[]
The Department studies the magecraft of summoning spiritual beings, be it through Invocation or Evocation, working through a spiritual medium such as Spiritual Surgery (霊媒術, Reibaijutsu?), Necromancy,[5] and Spiritual Possession.
Merem Solomon's power to create his Great Daemon Beasts falls along the lines of Spiritual Evocation.[6]
Mythological lore is considered common knowledge among the Clock Tower, spread out through varying Departments, such as Individual Fundamentals, Spiritual Evocation, Astromancy, and Archaeology covering the mythologies of different countries.[7]

The dean of the Department of Summoning. The Department of Summoning is a subordinate organization to the Department of Spiritual Evocation, which ended up being regarded very highly only in the “Fate/Apocrypha” world. As you all already know, subspecies Holy Grail Wars are held all over the place in the “Apo” world, so the Association of Magi had to quickly form countermeasures. At first, every magecraft department even slightly linked to Servant summoning techniques were scrambling to reap the benefits before each other, causing ugly conflicts to continue even after a Holy Grail War ended, so it was decided to treat “everything related to Servants of the Holy Grail War” under the category of “summoning”, entrusting all responsibility to an assured conservative in the Association.
That conservative is this old man, Rocco Belfegan. Status-wise, he is effectively a “proxy Lord”. Of course, since there is a conservative faction, there is also a reformist faction, and they strongly recommended Lord El Melloi II, who survived the largest-scale subspecies Holy Grail War in history, for the position instead. (However, the El Melloi clan’s stance is conservative, and El Melloi II’s own position is neither conservative nor reformist, maintaining a complicatedly neutral stance.)
Fortunately, both of them are well aware of the threat of subspecies Holy Grail Wars, and their views match in that they prioritize resolving the situation over the gains for their respective factions.
Rocco is a collection maniac, and yet by contrast is quite sloppy with what he collects. He’s the type to be completely neglectful by using Mystic Codes that activate just by having them on hand. He has stated in quite a carefree manner, “It’s fine as long as I have just Mystic Codes that resist against curses”. No, it’s not fine. He doesn’t involve himself much with the students, so there are lots of rumors like “The old man’s private room is becoming more and more of an entirely different world every year” about him.ロッコ・ベルフェバン【人名】

[] Fate/Apocrypha material - Encyclopedia: Necromancy [Others], p.179 [T] Necromancy magecraft [Others]
Necromancy magecraft. The style of magecraft that Shishigou Kairi uses.
Necromancy falls under the magecraft systems of both communicating with the dead and curses among the departments within the Association of Magi, and the term specifies all magecraft styles that primarily use and process corpses. Even after the soul has vanished, a magus’ body continues to have extremely potent magical properties, so the corpses of magi are more useful than regular corpses. Besides magi, corpses of things like beasts with magical properties are also highly valued by necromancers. For instance, a Phantasmal Species can be made into a suitably strong Mystic Code. Shishigou Kairi processes pieces of corpses such as these for every use he could. For example, he used things like monkey hands, owl eyes, and the hearts of magi.
Shishigou Kairi’s Mystic Codes were very high quality, and most of all were easy to use since the Mystic Codes that he made from corpses lacked negative factors such as “regret” and “malice” attached to them (while these increase a Mystic Code’s power, it proportionally raises the possibility of it going berserk). And those who should have fallen into ruin ended up becoming the subject of conversation among magi again—that includes the story of how Shishigou Kairi’s Magic Crest was turned poisonous, though.死霊魔術【その他】

[] Character material - Merem Solomon, p.056-057 Introduction - Merem Solomon
The Fifth of the Burial Agency. Number 20 of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors. In Ciel’s opinion, an annoying senior. Collects treasures from all ages and places.
The reason he affiliates with the Burial Agency is supposedly in order to get closer to the sealed treasures of the Church.
Originally, he was a divine child (planet terminal) that could manifest peoples’ wishes and communicate with animals. His arms and legs were torn off and worshiped in order to prevent him from ever leaving the village.
The reason his limbs were cut off is because of the religious belief that a divine child must not take on a mortal’s form, and also qutie simply to prevent such a convenient tool from escaping.
(His circumstances resemble those of a certain Angra Mainyu, but Merem actually is a divine child.)
Merem would have simply lived the rest of his life as the villagers’ plaything, but was noticed by the Crimson Moon, who was coincidentally passing by.
The Crimson Moon, who thought that “the power to put into shape the wishes of the people” was quite amusing, declared to the villagers that he would slaughter them all at dawn. “If you want to live, then use your wishes to try and kill me,” he said, and the game began.
The villagers’ wishes, “We don’t want to die”, were truly ugly but strong.
Without thinking of the burden on Merem, who manifested them into reality, the villagers kept on imagining “convenient divine beasts” to challenge the Crimson Moon.
Of course, those kinds of beings could never win against the Crimson Moon.
There was no end to the villagers’ wishes, but with only a little time left before daybreak, Merem reached his limit and died. The remaining villagers died, cursing Merem and the Crimson Moon.
…After that.
When the sun rose above the horizon, the Crimson Moon gave the dead Merem a big fat kiss, and revived him as a Dead Apostle.
“How amusing. You may live as you see fit. You have drawn many pictures of what could replace your arms and legs, correct? The wishes of those others were ugly, but yours were masterpieces.
―――Idols like that would be adequate to bear the burden of being your limbs.”
Entranced by the Crimson Moon’s words, Merem imagined four idols from the religious temple that the villagers built, gave them the power to be his limbs, and stood on the ground like a person for the first time.
Afterwards, he held a kind of adoration towards the Crimson Moon, and became a Dead Apostle who swore his allegiance only to the Crimson Moon --- Brunestud.
After the 27 Ancestors’ separation from the True Ancestors and the Crimson Moon’s demise, it was assumed that he went into reclusion, but for some reason he began to affiliate with their enemy, the Holy Church .
Introduction: Demonition
Merem’s special power. A first-ranked spiritual evocation power.
It is able to embody others’ wishes, but interestingly enough, not his own. Merem possesses a truly strong power, but can’t do anything by himself. In all senses, he’s like a demon himself.
While it resembles the manifestation of fantasies, Merem’s demon summoning takes the wishes of people as a model, and makes something similar after applying his own dreams.
The demons’ powers are warped by peoples’ images, but the mold itself is done by Merem’s image of it. Also, the magnitude of their power changes based on Merem’s prana input.
Given Merem’s personality, he’s not good at manifesting realistic or calculating demons.
In the end, he’s just a Peter Pan living in a fantasy world. The drawings he’s good at and the fantasies that he wants to draw are “the type of demons that you’d see in a fairy tale”.

He appears in a small episode several years after Tsukihime.
A one-man monster battle. He’s related to King Solomon in name only.
Although it’s just a plan, he’s planned to appear in “the dark six”. …Really, I wonder what kind of story it’ll become…Introduction

[] Fate/Zero material - Encyclopedia: Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald [Person's name], p.095 Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald [Person's name]
Kayneth demonstrated genius level talent during his time as a student. He was the youngest lecturer to grace the podium of the Department of Evocation in its history. His skills were not only in research, but also politics. Due to his great lineage, he had extensive connections. He was expected to form the greatest faction in the Clock Tower.
He did not participate in the Holy Grail War due to necessity or duress, it was merely to add a splash of "martial prowess" to his life's story. That was it. Although he did not severely underestimate the Three Founding Houses, he did boast that Lord El-Melloi could overwhelm them by skills alone.
The reason Kayneth brought many dangerous Mystic Code had nothing to do with research, but for entertainment value. Kayneth had talents not only in Spirit Evocation, but also in many fields of magecraft. He was really a man of many talents like Gennai Hiraga or Cao Cao.
Kayneth even considered the Heroic Spirits ---- Servants, to be part of his stock of Mystic Codes. Because he never acknowledged the humanity of Servants, he did not understand Diarmuid's loyalty even until the very end. As a result, he effectively lost through self-destruction.
However, Diarmuid was not choosey of his Master, he would acknowledge anyone who would accept his loyalty. As a result, he did not understand Kayneth as a person either. If Diarmuid really appreciated Kayneth's talents and experience, then Kayneth would have treated him with a much softer attitude.
To Kayneth, unable to bond with his Servant was the second most unfortunate event at the worst. The most unfortunate event by far was encountering Emiya Kiritsugu. Although as a mage, Kayneth won by an enormous margin, as a killer, he was miles behind Kiritsugu. It was inevitable that Kayneth would lose in a melee such as the Holy Grail War. Because of Kayneth's sudden death, his many valuable research accumulated in the Clock Tower was unorganized and left unattended. Although they were almost lost, the most useless formal student suddenly appeared to save the day. He had an unusual talent of "could not put magecraft to practice, but ingenious in the reinterpretation of theories and classification of systems". This student eventually compiled a tome named "Lord Kayneth's Encyclopedia of Arcane Secrets", which laid the foundation for the flourishing of House El-Melloi and its descendants.
By the way, in the Fourth Holy Grail War, the following strategy would insure the absolute victory of Team Lancer:
- Kayneth must not let his Servant recognize such things as honour on the battle field or knights' pride. He must let Diarmuid realize that the Holy Grail War was merely dirty chores that needed to be done.
- In order to fulfill the previous item, Kayneth must avoid any contact between Diarmuid and Saber with his best effort.
- In combat, Kayneth must prioritize securing an exit. In a battle, missions would be considered accomplished if Diarmuid scored one hit with Gae Buidhe. Repeat this tactic, and exhaust all hostile teams.
- Capitalize on Team Berserker. Team Berserker was a powerful enemy against all other teams, but Lancer had an advantage due to compatibility. It would be optimal to let Berserker destroy the other teams and reach the finale. He could then be defeated at that point.
- Kayneth must not let his Servant recognize such things as honour on the battle field or knights' pride.
