Dorothea Coyett (ドロテア・コイエット, Dorotea Koietto?) is the Master of Assassin in the Waxing Moon Ritual of Fate/Samurai Remnant.
Profile[]
Background[]
A young woman from another country who came to Japan aboard a galleon. She is the first daughter of a Swedish nobleman, Fredrik CoyettWP, and is a Magus who belongs to the Clock Tower.[3]
While she is set to inherit the magical affairs of her family, her brother is supposed to inherit the business front.[4]
In 1661, ten years after the Waxing Moon Ritual, it's possible that she teamed up with her father to fight Zheng Chenggong at the Siege of Fort ZeelandiaWP.[1]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
A girl who holds firmly to the idea of noblesse oblige. Though she participates in the Waxing Moon Ritual, she only sees it as another step on her journey, and has no intention of sacrificing herself or her family's belongings for it. However, she was born privileged, and her responsibilities as a noble are her greatest priority, so she won't hesitate to give up her life if it means accomplishing her duties.[1] As a noble standing above the masses, she cannot allow harm to come to innocent bystanders.[2]
Dorothea has arachnophobia, a fear of spiders.[5]
Role[]
Fate/Samurai Remnant[]
Dorothea arrived in Japan ahead of her father Fredrik, who had been offered a position as the next head of a Dutch trading company in Dejima. She was the very person Miyamoto Iori met in Shinagawa, and who later attacked Iori and Yamato Takeru with Assassin. However, when Ushi Gozen suddenly appeared and usurped control over the Great Orochi, she retreated, leaving Iori with a venomous snake bite as a parting gift.[2]
Due to a large-scale Magecraft perpetrated by Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro in an attempt to control the Heroic Spirits, Dorothea lost control over Koga Saburo. While giving chase to try and regain control over him, she ran into Iori and Yamato Takeru. Though she was loathe to be indebted to an enemy, Dorothea decided to form a temporary alliance with them in light of the bitter truth that she would be powerless to fight without a Servant.[2]
She sacrifices herself in the Rat route to stop her Servant Koga Saburo, while in the Snake route Miyamoto Iori saves her. She thanks him and helps Iori in the rest of the Snake route.[5]
”I leave no debts unpaid.” A flurry of cannon balls rained down upon the great divine being controlled by Ushi Gozen from a galleon floating on Sumidagawa. Dorothea, in command of the ship, wore a smile as she remarked to herself even the defeated have their part to play.[2]
Keian Command Championship[]
Dorothea joins the Keian Command Championship and participates in the various matches. Upon victory, she wishes for immense riches to fund her family lineage. Proceeding to abandon the Waxing Moon Ritual, Dorothea takes Assassin with her as she returns home in victory.
Abilities[]
Dorothea is a powerful Magus who turned the entire port of Yokosuka into her workshop. She has several Magical Energy Reactors set up across town powering many traps and bounded fields. Dorothea also has many men in her service to fight for her, ranging from Magi employed by her family to Dutch East India Company sailors sent by her father. Her men carry elixirs to increase their physical abilities.
In order to battle Servants and Noble Phantasms, Dorothea upgraded the cannons on her galleon. They are outfitted with a Mystic Code that transforms cannonballs launched from them into fire-based magical attacks. High ranks of Magic Resistance will resist the assaults, but they can be quite damaging depending on affinity.[6]
Dorothea is easily able to break through Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro's bounded fields.[5]
In terms of talent as a Magus, Dorothea is an even match for Yui Shousetsu.[7]
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Dorothea was designed by Rei Wataru in Fate/Samurai Remnant. Her scenario writer is Hikaru Sakurai.[1]
Kinoko Nasu pushed to have a Western Master be present in Fate/Samurai Remnant despite its Edo Japan setting. All of the Fate writers proposed an idea for a character, and Dorothea was the one chosen.[8]
Reception[]
Assassin and Dorothea became artist Rei Wataru's favorite team in Fate/Samurai Remnant.[9]
