The Doubles Subcategory Holy Grail War (亜種二連聖杯戦争, Ashu niren seihai sensō?) is a Subcategory Holy Grail War held in Oslo, Norway in 2014, ten years after the Great Holy Grail War in the World of Fate/Apocrypha.[1] It is the main conflict of Fate:Lost Einherjar.
Origin[]
Normally, a Subcategory Holy Grail War can only manage to summon up to five Servants because their Grails are weaker than the Greater Holy Grail of Fuyuki. However, the Doubles Subcategory Holy Grail War is different. With the approval of the Clock Tower, the Mage's Association has developed and organized a new kind of Holy Grail War with the backing of several prominent magi.[1]
This war's Holy Grail literally links together two separate Subcategory Holy Grails, allowing for the summoning of eight Servants and the ability to grant better wishes than a normal weak Subcategory Grail. Oslo, Norway was chosen as the location for the First Doubles Subcategory Holy Grail War.[1]
The organizers of the Doubles Grail War are a consortium of Scandinavian mage families affiliated with the Clock Tower, bolstered by anonymous sponsorships from other powerful mages. Their figurehead is Dunkelbelt Heidowolf, from the Norwegian Heidowolf family, who also serves as the overseer and master of ceremonies.[2]
Procedure[]
In the Doubles Subcategory Holy Grail War, each participating Master summons two Servants who fight as a team, totaling four Masters and eight Servants. The Masters each still only have three Command Spells, not six.[1]
The war is treated like a sporting event and is livestreamed to an audience of magi numbering in the double digits, as well as a live audience watching from the Oslo Opera House.[2] There are designated battle hours, during which the Masters all stay inside the Oslo Opera HouseWP to remotely give orders to their Servants who move throughout the city.[1]
The rules of this Grail War are as follows:
- First, do not kill opposing Masters. All four Masters will remotely control their Servants as pawns, and other Servants cannot attack them.[1]
- Second, the total number of Servants is eight. Servants will form four pairs and work in teams in battles under the control of their Master.[1]
- Third, ■■■■■■■■■■■■■. The Master and Servants whose wish is granted by the Doubles Subcategory Holy Grail are ■■■■■■■. In other words, ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■.[1]
There is also "Rule X", where a Master can openly declare their Servants' location to the audience and other Masters in exchange for being given an additional stroke of their Command Spell by Dunkelbelt. For one hour, the team that declared Rule X have to defend the chosen location and have permission to strike back at any other Servants who attack. For the attackers, the upside is knowing their enemies' location and being able to prepare.[2]
Audience participation comes in the form of chips, a virtual, tax-free, real-time tip system that audience members can donate to their preferred faction as a form of investment. The organizer receives ten percent of the donation as a fee. There are five tiers of chips: iron, bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. A single gold chip is worth one million euros.[2]
