Drones (ドローンが?) are human controlled and autonomous unmanned weapons utilized during World War III in the World of Fate/Requiem.
History[]
After the Holy Grail Wars became public and World War III began, large-scale drone warfare began. Their development increased throughout the conflict, reaching a ten thousand to one ratio in comparison to ground troops. They were of such a large number and caused so much damage that the survivors of the conflict saw them as a symbol of horror. While the post-war generation could not understand their fear, the pre-war generation refused to speak of drones. After the war ended, there was an effort to begin removing them, many losing their lives. The Mosaic City eliminated all within the confines of the city, but many remained outside.[1]
Some drones possessing single functions were utilized by the inhabitants of the Mosaic City to maintain urban functions and perform maintenance, measure the contamination in uninhabitable areas, and act as security cameras within spaces of limited operation. Any visible drones were camouflaged to avoid public scrutiny due to public hatred towards them. Areas outside the Mosaic City were still filled with enough hibernating drones that travel by air and sea were rendered impossible, any plane or ship detected and destroyed.[1]
Characteristics[]
Drones are flying unmanned weapons, some wirelessly controlled by an operator and some possessing semi-autonomous routines. They possess a "semi-permanent lifespan," able to stay in hibernation for years without issue. They are developed in various sizes and types, flying drones ranging from insect-sized machines to large passenger plane-sized machines. Digging drones were developed to infiltrate underground facilities. Swimming drones that could operate underwater were developed as well. Many underwater drones were disguised as dolphins and whales to blow up near target submarines. They were so numerous that marine life and seabirds were killed en masse to protect from drone attacks.[1]
