E Pluribus Unum: The Great North American War of the Myths (北米神話大戦, Hokubei Shinwa Taisen?), alternatively The White Cloth of Steel (鋼鉄の白衣, Kōtetsu no Hakui?), was the fifth of the seven primary Singularities in the Human Order Incineration Incident. Located in North America, A.D. 1873, it's Humanity Foundation Value was A+.

Setting

FGO America

The Singularity was located in North America in year 1873 A.D. Using the power of the Holy Grail, Medb created a twisted version of Cù Chulainn as her wish for him to rule alongside her as her king.[1] Leading an army of warriors that she can endlessly produce, Medb and her Servants began to conquer America to create a new Celtic nation; killing everyone who isn't Celtic.[2] The Americans attempted to repel the Celts, but they were easily overwhelmed by the Celts.[3]

Edison took control of the broken American armies, becoming their President-King. With the aid of Edison's robots, the Americans were able to hold their ground against the Celts, yet they were still unable to completely defeat them.[3] However, his mind affected by the accumulated thoughts of the presidents, Edison became so obsessed with winning the war that he turned into a despot.[4] He had the army force civilians to work in his robot factories.[5]

Due to the actions of both the Celts and Edison, Geronimo formed a resistance against both of them. His resistance eventually got into a skirmish with Cù Chulainn, who easily wiped out the resistance soldiers and gravely injured Rama (a member of the resistance) with Gaé Bolg.[2] By the time Chaldea arrives, the Celts have conquered the eastern half of America while the Americans remain in control the western half.[6]

History

Ritsuka and Mash arrive in the era in a forest. They come across a battle, with one side using robots resembling those of Charles Babbage. The robots mistake Ritsuka and Mash as enemy reinforcements and attacks them. After destroying the robots, the pair are attacked by the opposing side when the other retreats. Though they’re able to win, Ritsuka is suddenly hit by cannon fire and knocked unconscious.[7]

Ritsuka later wakes up in a tent, being treated by a woman. She then prepares to amputate their without their consent. Mash however convinces her to stop and uses a magic scroll to heal Ritsuka’s wounds. While the woman treats another patient, Mash tells Ritsuka they’re in the rear base of the American Independence Army. She also reveals the woman is a Servant and her True Name is Florence Nightingale. Mash tries to ask for her help, but Nightingale refuses as she still has patients. The camp suddenly come under attack, so Ritsuka and Mash go out to repel the attackers. Nightingale also joins the fight, telling Benjamin Rush to look after her patients. After the group defeat the enemy, Diarmuid Ua Duibhne and Fionn mac Cumhaill arrive. Diarmuid fights the group, but they defeat him. Fionn heals him and joins him in another fight with the group. After the group defeats them, Nightingale senses the wounded soldiers are under attack, and rushes back to camp. A Servant then arrives with reinforcements, forcing Diarmuid and Fionn’s forces to retreat.[8] Later, after reprimanding Rush’s dated medical practices (latest by the era’s standards), Nightingale is confronted by a woman followed by an entourage of mechanized soldiers. The woman warns her not to leave her post or she’ll face punishment. Nightingale refuses to listen and almost gets into a fight with her if not for Mash’s intervention. The woman reveals America is currently in a war between East and West; East being the Celts and West being the United Western States. She then introduces herself as Helena Blavatsky Mash tries to convince let Nightingale help her and Ritsuka resolve the Singularity, but Helena refuses. Nightingale ignores Helena’s orders, and prepares to leaves with the pair. With no other choice, Helena orders her entourage to subdue the group. The group destroy the robots, but Karna arrives and attacks them with Brahmastra.[6]

The group later wake up, having been knocked unconscious by the shockwave created when Mash blocked Brahmastra. Helena explains they’re being transported and warns the robots will target Ritsuka if they try to run. She further explains that they will meet with her king to convince Ritsuka to join him. The group eventually reaches Denver, where the fortress of Helena’s king is, built when the Celts took the White House.[3] Inside the castle, the group meet Thomas Edison, President-King of the United States. Edison asks for Ritsuka’s aid in defeating the Celts, having been informed of their victories in the previous Singularities by a rival. He explains the increasing Celts completely outnumbered the Americans before he took command and even the odds with his robots. However, he lacks enough Servants to combat the Celts’ own to turn the tide. He then proclaims his mechanized infantry is the aim of his new national structure like Nightingale suspected. He continues he will unite the citizens under equal national service regardless of race or gender. These citizens will eventually become part of the mechanized infantry to combat the Celts. Laborers gained from all across the land will do the mass productions of the robots, working 20 hour work days. The group disagree though with Edison’s labor-filled vision for the nation since it doesn’t take physical limitations into account. Nightingale asks Edison how he intends to save the world, which Mash asserts can be done by recovering the Holy Grail and correcting the era. Edison reveals however he doesn’t intend to fix the era, instead he will use the Grail to create his ideal America on a different timeline from the other eras. He admits though such an act would likely destroy the other eras. The group disagree with his plan as it goes against his duty as a Heroic Spirit to protect the world. Nightingale tries to attack him, but Karna restrains her. Edison then gives Ritsuka three minutes to decide if they want to join him. Ritsuka decides not to join him, so Edison orders his robots to subdue the group. Overwhelmed by the sheer number of robots, the group are sent to the underground prison.[3]

In the prison, Ritsuka’s Magical Energy link with their Servants is neutralized by Helena to prevent their escape. Helena asks Ritsuka why they didn’t join Edison. Upon hearing their answer, she admits she knows Edison has obsessively self-righteously patriotic. However, she also feels he is the only one who can stop the Celts. She then says someone will come to rescue the group and leaves. Later, as the group struggle to escape, a Servant suddenly appears before them. He reveals borrowed another’s Noble Phantasm to avoid Karna and introduces himself as Geronimo. He busts the group out of their cells, and escapes with them after destroy the robot guards. As they continue their escape, Geronimo reveals he is a part of a resistance against Edison and the Celts with three other Servants; He asks the group to join him. Nearing the exit, the group encounter Karna, who they defeat him and escape before he can recover.[9]

The group eventually arrives in a deserted town serving as the Resistance’s hideout. Geronimo asks Nightingale to heal a Servant member of the Resistance. While she treats him, the others see that his heart is severely damaged. The Servant introduces himself as Rama, and he reveals Cú Chulain’s Gáe Bolg is responsible for his wound. After repelling a Celtic scouting party, Romani Archaman tells the group that Rama cannot heal until Gáe Bolg‘s curse is removed. Since fighting Cú Chulainn to destroy his spear is too dangerous a method to remove the curse though, the group decide to find a Servant related to Rama to remove the curse. Rama suggests they find his wife, Sita, who is imprisoned somewhere. The group then discuss on how to deal with the seemingly endless armies of Edison and the Celts. Romani states the Celtic soldiers are born continuously from their queen while Edison’s robots are mass produced. He suggests assassinating Edison and the Celtic queen to stop their armies from growing. Taking Rama with them, the group leave to recruit Servants to aid in the assassination plot.[10]

During their journey, Geronimo senses two Archers, both specializing in guerrilla warfare, being besieged by Celtic soldiers nearby. He details how the Western American citizens are forced to work on the mechanized infantry mass production lines. He also states the War between East and West is in a stalemate. He then has the others hide when Celtic scouts come near. Mash prepares to go to cut off their escape, but Nightingale had already started attacking them. After defeating the scouts, the group move on to the town where the Archers are being attacked. Nightingale (carrying Rama) arrives in the town first to meet the Archers, who believe they’re the reinforcements Geronimo sent. Arriving in the town, the group eliminate the remaining Celtic soldiers and a Soul Eater that appeared later. The two Archers introduce themselves as Robin Hood and Billy the Kid. After Mash details the current situation to Robin and Billy, Geronimo suggests the group needs Saber and Lancer to help them. Robin confesses he met two problematic Servants who fit the aforementioned classes earlier.[5]

Later, the group arrive at the entrance of the town that one of the Servants Robin met is located. After defeating some unexpectedly weak Celtic soldiers, the group hear a disturbing song that Ritsuka, Mash, and Robin recognize. Entering the town, the group meet with Elizabeth Báthory as she continues her singing. The group deduce that is the reason the soldiers they fought earlier were so weak. Mash convinces Elizabeth to join them by saying it will help promote her art.[11]

Passing through a forest to meet the Saber, the group witness Nero Claudius being confronted by Fergus mac Róich who was sent to kill her. Robin uses No Face May King to ambush him when Nero reveals his presence. The others then arrive to defeat Fergus and his soldiers. Before disappearing, Fergus tells Rama that Sita is being held on Alcatraz Island.[12] After setting up camp for the nights, Geronimo informs the others that the Celtic stronghold is the White House. He states the group will split into two. One with Nightingale to rescue Sita and another to infiltrate the White House and assassinate the Celtic queen. Geronimo decides Ritsuka and Mash will accompany Nightingale and Rama; Nero convinces Elizabeth to go with them. Taking the others with him, Geronimo is given a communication device by Mash. The next morning, the group split into their respective teams to carry out their missions.[13]

Ritsuka’s group eventually arrive at the coast near Alcatraz. Since swimming to the island would prove difficult for Ritsuka, Mash borrows a boat from an old man, who warns her of Dragonkin on the island. Coming ashore on the island, the group head for the prison while slaying wyverns sent by a Servant. Arriving at the prison, they confront the Servant, and Nightingale demands he releases Sita. He refuses and introduces himself as Beowulf, and he sends a dragon to kill the group. After they slay the dragon, Beowulf fights the group. After he’s defeated, Beowulf allows the group to enter the prison and says they will meet again.[14]

Inside the prison, the group meet Sita as Rama faints from his wound. After Mash informs her of the circumstances of Rama’s wound, Sita reveals Rama was afflicted with a curse by Vali‘s wife when he fatally ambushed her husband. This curse keeps Sita and Rama apart even as Heroic Spirits, and either will be summoned as Rama never to be summoned simultaneously. Sita confesses she will disappear when Rama awakes even with the abnormality of the current situation. Nightingale heals Rama’s wound, but Gáe Bolg’s curse still persists. Sita then sacrifices herself by taking the curse into herself to dispel it. After Rama wakes up, the group leave to rendezvous with Geronimo’s group.[14]

At Washington, Robin returns from scouting, and reports to the others the Celts are preparing for a parade. Geronimo decides the parade is an opportune moment to assassinate the Celtic queen, Medb. Using No Face May King, the group sneak up on Medb and isolate her in Nero’s Nuptiae Domus Aurea. However, Cú Chulainn Alter suddenly appears when Medb calls for him and attacks Nero. Confused by Cú Chulainn Alter’s strength inside the theater, the group learn Medb created him from her wish on the Grail for Cú Chulainn to be a strong and wicked king who’ll stand beside her. The group goes to fight Cú Chulainn Alter when another Servant called by Medb arrives. Cú Chulainn Alter fights Nero alone while Medb and the other Servant, Arjuna, fight the others. Geronimo orders Robin to take the communicator and escape. After he escapes, the rest of the group proceed with their battle.[1]

Meanwhile, Ritsuka’s group fight their way out of Alcatraz when they’re confronted by Fionn and Diarmuid. After killing the pair, they receive a transmission from Robin. He informs them that the assassination plan failed, suspecting the others are dead now. He tells the group to meet with him at abandoned United Western States base he is heading for. After receiving his coordinates, the group leave to meet with him.[1]

As Geronimo's group continue their battle, Geronimo unleashes Tsago Degi Naleya on Arjuna. Arjuna easily destroys it though with Agni Gandiva, then kills Billy. Medb informs Geronimo she sent Beowulf, Fionn, and Diarmuid to Alcatraz to kill Ritsuka's group. After Medb declares she'll easily destroy Edison's army with the Grail's power, Geronimo informs her  that Ritsuka already recovered four Grails to her shock. He predicts she will die soon, which prompts her to kill him in rage. Medb then orders Arjuna to chase after Robin. After her theater collapses, Nero is finished by Cú Chulainn Alter.[15]

Ritsuka‘s group eventually locate Robin to see him under attack by Celtic soldiers. After they’re defeated, Robin informs the group about what transpired during the failed assassination of Medb. He also details how a Servant saved him from Arjuna and Cú Chulainn Alter’s pursuit. That same Servant then introduces herself as Scáthach. She confesses she originally intended to destroy the era until she decided a human needs to end the war upon seeing Ritsuka. She refuses Mash’s offer to join them, but offers her help all the same. She admits even she cannot defeat Cú Chulainn Alter, as his power granted by Medb’s wish rivals her own. She warns she could destroy the Grail along with Medb but that would delay the repair of the era greatly. Romani tells the group to eliminate Medb themselves, with Scáthach being a last resort. A horde of Celtic soldiers then attack the camp, so the group go to defeat them. While continuing to defeat the Celts, they notice another Servants defeating Shadow Servants summoned by Medb. Impressed by his skills, Scáthach asks for his name. He answers Li Shuwen and challenges Scáthach to a fight. She refuses however unless he can defeat Mash, otherwise he must leave. After fighting Mash to a standstill, Li Shuwen sees the group stands a chance against the Celtic. He then requests Scáthach to fight him at the end regardless of the world’s state. After she accepts his requests, he says Edison seems to be possessed by something. Mash invites him into the group, but he refuses yet they can consider him an ally. After he leaves, Nightingale requests to see Edison, believing he is afflicted like Li Shuwen said. Ritsuka and the others agree with her request and depart for Denver to confront Edison.[15]

Travelling back west, the group come across a town being attacked by Celts. They prepare to kill them, but Robin wants them captured instead. After capturing a few of the Celts, Ritsuka and Robin take the prisoners to a mechanized infantry robot. Robin states he is Second Lieutenant Anderson Komadori and says he is transferring prisoners to headquarters. As the prisoners are Celts, the robot allows him to pass. After killing more Celts, the group proceed to Edison’s stronghold.[16]

At the stronghold, a robot prevents the group’s entry, so they destroy it. Afterwards, Romani’s transmission is suddenly hijacked by Edison, who initially believes the group joined the Celts. Inside the stronghold, the group is confronted by Karna. However, as they fight him, Karna is ordered by Edison to return to the throne room. Entering the throne room, the group defeat Edison along with Helena and Karna. Edison refuses to give up however and prepares to drink an elixir to transform himself, but Karna throws it on the floor. Nightingale tells Edison the Celts are infinite while Edison’s army is limited. It is then revealed that Edison’s tyranny resulted from his mind being affected by accumulated thoughts of the presidents entrusting him with America’s future. Nightingale tells Edison he diverted his attention from the world to protect America despite his obligation to protect the world. Edison realizes his error, and he becomes worried about starting over. However, he is convinced by Helena and Karna to continue as he has always done. Thanking them, Edison apologizes to and thanks Ritsuka, and joins the group.[4] They then hold a strategy meeting to devise a way to defeat the Celts. Edison states the Celts will be invading Denver via the northern and southern routes. Romani warns if the Celts conquer any more of America then the era will no long withstand its separation from reality and “die”. The group eventually decides with a two prong attack with two armies of Servants and robots to attack along the northern and southern routes. One army will hold its ground against the Celts while the other will breakthrough to the White House. The group leave the decision of what Servant will go with what army to Ritsuka.[17]

The next day, Ritsuka announces their decision. The north army will have Elizabeth, Robin, Edison, and Helena. The south army will have Ritsuka, Mash, Karna, Rama, Nightingale, and Scáthach. The north army will hold the Celts long enough for south army to breakthrough to Washington. The north army then departs to await the battle three days from now at dusk. After they’re gone, Scáthach holds a practice match against Ritsuka and Mash to test their resolve. Afterwards, Scáthach orders Rama to lead the army as she isn’t taking part in the battle. Instead, she will monitor Medb and Cù Chulainn Alter, who she’ll stop from entering the frontline. After Scáthach leaves, Karna asks to be in the vanguard so he can get Arjuna’s attention. Though uncertain of their victory, the south army start their advance toward Washington.[17]

As the south army arrive in Montgomery, Mash relays a message from Karna reporting his vanguard defeated an enemy vanguard yet a few breakthrough.[18] After defeating the stragglers, the south army continue their advance when a scout reports the Celtic army ahead is led by Arjuna. Told that Karna was informed of this, Rama orders the scout to tell all troops not to engage with Arjuna. At the enemy vanguard, Arjuna orders his troop to attack the south army while he fights Karna. The south army and Celtic army clash while Karna and Arjuna fight.[19] Eventually the south army defeat the Celtic army, and the group continue watching Karna and Arjuna’s battle. Suddenly though, Karna is struck from behind by Gáe Bolg. Cù Chulainn Alter reveals he killed Scáthach and then fights the group. He easily overwhelms Mash, and he prepares to kill her with Gáe Bolg. Fortunately for Mash, Merlin projects himself through Fou, and he places her and Cù Chulainn Alter in an illusion. He then disappears after telling Mash they’ll meet again in the future. Karna takes advantage of the illusion to launch Vasavi Shakti at Cù Chulainn Alter with the last of his strength. However, Cù Chulainn Alter survives as it wasn’t strong enough, and Karna disappears. Cù Chulainn Alter then retreats to Washington to heal his wounds. The group tries to chase after him when Arjuna stops them to fight them. After defeating him, Mash asks Arjuna to join them, but he declines and leaves. The south army then continue their advance to Washington.[20]

Later at night, the south army continue their advance. Rama ordering them to hurry as the north army is currently engaging the main Celtic army. As the south army engage with incoming Celtic forces, the details of the fight between Cù Chulainn Alter and Scáthach are revealed.[21]

During their fight, Scáthach and Cù Chulainn Alter both launched Gáe Bolg yet they cancelled each other. Scáthach activates Gate of Skye to pull him into the Land of Shadows, but he activates Curruid Coinchenn to prevent that. He then stabs her, and she escapes to the Land of Shadows to recover. There she meets Li Shuwen and asks him to help the north army until she recovers. Li Shuwen complies with her request, saying he’ll be back for their duel.[21]

On the northern front, the north army continue their battle against the main Celtic army. Beowulf arrives and fights Robin and Elizabeth while Helena and Edison fight the Celts. Fortunately for Robin and Elizabeth, Li Shuwen arrives and engages in a fistfight with Beowulf.[21]

Meanwhile, Ritsuka’s group eventually reach Washington, where immediately encounter Medb. She summons a group comprising a Shadow Servant, Chimera, Dragon, and later a Spriggan. After they’re defeated, Medb then retreats to the White House, so the group give chase. At the White House, the group sees the building had been transformed from its original state. Inside, they fight Cù Chulainn Alter and Medb. Though mortally wounded by Brahmastra, Medb uses the Grail to summon a group of 28 Demon Gods called Clan Calatin to attack the north army. She then gives the Grail to Cù Chulainn Alter before disappearing. Cù Chulainn Alter’s Magical Energy weakens, which Romani attributes to the self-correction of the era strengthening with Medb now gone. Romani implores the group to defeat Cù Chulainn Alter before the north army is destroyed.[22]

As Ritsuka’s group fight Cù Chulainn Alter, Edison’s group continue to struggle against Clan Calatin. Edison attempts to self-destruct himself by overloading his Noble Phantasm to protect the others. He’s stopped though by the sudden appearance of Nikola Tesla, who arrived to save the era to repent for his actions in London. Realizing their attacks are effective, Tesla and Edison unleash their Noble Phantasms simultaneously to seal Clan Calatin off. Arjuna then arrives and sacrifices himself to launch a restricted Pashupata to destroy Clan Calatin.[23]

Meanwhile, in the White House, Romani reports Clan Calatin’s destruction as the group defeat Cù Chulainn Alter. However, Cù Chulainn Alter uses the Grail to incarnate himself into Halphas, and Nightingale uses Nightingale Pledge to heal the group. After defeating Halphas, Ritsuka and Mash recover the Grail as everyone say their goodbyes as the Singularity collapses. While Scáthach and Li Shuwen begin their appointed fight, Ritsuka and Mash return to Chaldea.[23]
