English Japanese Location The building (academic building) that is the Clock Tower is located in the suburbs of London and has a similar appearance to country-wide Parliament(Big Ben). This is the First Department. Bounded fields in the surrounding areas protect against people (from physical methods include inspection zones on highways and cartographic erasure to bounded fields obscuring vision). In addition, eleven departments reconfigured themselves as satellite cities in districts surrounding London (Slur. Rocks Road, etc). Professors on active teaching duty at the hub set up a London residence. Although the Clock Tower is fundamentally a research institution, their home (headquarters) so to speak are their department's cities. For example, El-Melloi II rents an apartment in London. After he finishes his morning work as a Clock Tower professor, he returns to his home, Modern Magecraft city Slur, in the afternoon to take care of his students. 立地 建物(学術棟)としての時計塔はロンドン郊外に国会議事堂に似た外観の建物である。このロンドン郊外にあるのが第一学科。周囲には人よけの結界(国道の検問や地図からの消去といった物理的なものから、視覚妨害の結界など)が張られている。そのほか、十一の学科は衛星都市として改造された、ロンドン周辺の街にある(スロクスロートなど)。 中央に詰めている教授たちはロンドンに住居をおき、時計塔を基本的な研究場所としているが、彼らのホーム(本拠地)といえるのはそれぞれの学科の都市である。 たとえばエルメロイI世はロンドンにアパートを借午前中は時計としてのめをはたしながら、午後はホームである現代学科の都市・スラーに戻り、学生たちの面倒を見ている、という感じ。

English Japanese Ranks of magi The lowest rank is Frame, but to obtain that rank the Clock Tower must recognize you as a "legitimate magus". A self-taught or unassociated magus is not "magus" to the Association, merely an outsider. For a pleb with about five hundred years behind them doing their very best, Cause rank is the limit. However, unless they "created some sort of magical foundation and stabilized it" they would not be recognized as having the sufficient ability for this rank. Those marked as Fes are in a special slot. This rank is awarded as recognition for abilities outside of the normal: a special skill or achievement. For example El-Melloi II. Conversely a comparably high leveled magus can trapped be in Fes rank. Furthermore, although not the target of much gossip, ranks are given to lineages too. Normally a magus' rank and his family rank are in agreement, however in many cases a large gap calls upon tragedy. Pride families where both the main and branch families do not have suitable successors will adopt and usher in an excellent magus from more common stock. Currently there are many houses with their eyes on El-Melloi classroom students 魔術師の階位 最低位は末子(フレーム)だが、これを取得するためにも、時計塔で「正規の魔術師」と認められなくてはならない。在野のはぐれ魔術師や独学の魔術師たちは、魔術協会にとって「魔術師」ですらない余所者である。 おおよそ五百年程度の平民出身では、よほど頑張っても開位が限界。もっとも、これにしたところで「何らかの魔術基盤をつくり、安定させた」という功績がなければ認められない階位なので、十分な実力の持ち主といえよう。 ※印がついている祭位(フェス)は特別枠である。通常の能力とは別に、何らかの特技・功績を認められた場合、この階位をいただく事がある。エルメロイⅡ世がまさにこの例だが、逆により高位に匹敵する魔術師が、祭位にとどめられることもあるという。 また、あまり取りざたされることはないが、こうした階位は家柄の方にもつけられている。たいていの場合、最終的には魔術師の階位と家柄の階位は一致するのだが、大きく開きがある場合悲劇を呼ぶことが多い。 このため、典位(ブライド)の家柄だが、分家含めてふさわしい後継者がいない……などという場合、優秀な平民出身の魔術師を養子として迎え入れることもある。現在はエルメロイ教室の生徒たちに目をつけている家も多いとか。

Association are in the dispute against the Holy Church shut down one by one.​ On account that Crimson Moon was annihilated, Gransurg Blackmore does in the midst of despair accept annihilation.​ Though he reared disciples, in a battle against an Executor who chanced upon him on a night of a blue Moon, he gracefully accepted defeat.​ 「It was upon a night like this that I encountered that person.​ 　That being the case, perhaps I ought to die on such a night.」​ Circa 500 AD The True Ether (the 5th True Aspect) that remained as of the island of Britain vanishes.​ A contingent of magi establish Barthomelloi makes an entrance.​ The basis of the Lords — the magi of the aristocratic class — is established.​ Circa 1200 AD The Clock Tower does in name and substance become as the center of the thaumaturgical world.​ The institution of the system of Governorship is completed.​ (Being that at this time, the Faculty of Policies was treated still as an academic faculty, there were twelve faculties.)​ Circa 1400 AD Zepia assumes posting as the Director of the Academy at Atlas.​ Said posting subsequently persists unto present day.​ Circa 1600 AD The Faculty of Policies is in its manner of existence viewed as problematic, and its standing as an academic faculty is annulled.​ Subsequently, it becomes as the Department of Policies, and the twelve academic faculties are amended to eleven.​ Circa 1800 AD England, the Industrial Revolution.​ Though this was as a severe blow to the thaumaturgical world, escalation in the complexity of knowledge and technology did likewise confer certain benefits.​ Being as unto the Holy Church — which had by pushing 「a singular worldview」 expanded its influence — it constituted an unparalleled attack, the Association even provided backing.​ Contemporaneous, the internal conflict on the matter of whether to regard the Industrial Revolution with affirmation did subsequently become as the root cause of the dispute between the Aristocratic English Japanese Adashino Hishiri [Person] The snake of the Faculty of Law. Her elemental affinity is Water. Her specialty is Poison. In this story, she was El-Melloi II’s first rival. If Heartless is his Moriarty, then she is his Irene Adler. Though the chance of developing a romantic relationship with someone was never there for El-Melloi II. In reality, much of her life was shaped by her desire for revenge against her father. Heading into the depths of the Spiritual Tomb of Albion on his own, he abandoned his ex-wife and son entirely out of nowhere upon his return. Giving birth to her through his second wife, he died a coward. In order to prove the worthlessness of her father, she joined the family of Norwich before slipping into the Faculty of Law, the easiest route for a magus with no pressure from their own bloodline. As a result, she coincidentally received information from the Faculty of Law’s Information Division, and became strangely obsessed with a certain Doctor Heartless. She began pursuing him, thinking there was a possibility he was her long lost brother, Adashino Kurou. If El-Melloi II had “a first rate sense of being a magus but a second rate skill,” then Adashino was “a magus of first rate skill, but no sense of being one.” Though her nature is closer to that of a Spellcaster, her place in the Faculty of Law which has given up pursuit of the Root fit her perfectly. Though not explicitly stated within the work, her glasses are Mystic Eye Killers. Just as her brother Heartless (Adashino Kurou) once possessed, she bears Mystic Eyes of Finding. In her investigations, the reason Hishiri was able to reach such precise results so quickly was because of those eyes. Of course within the Faculty of Law they were of great use, but they were also used to help find her brother. As a bit of a digression, she has been entertaining herself greatly with the arrival of the new, plump, and somewhat out of place member of the Faculty of Law. 化野菱理【人名】 法政科の蛇。属性は水。特性は毒。 本作品における、エルメロイII世最初のライバル。ハートレスをモリアーティとすればアイリーン・アドラー。もっとも恋愛関係に落ちるような隙間はまったくエルメロイII世にないのだが。 実のところ、彼女の人生のかなりの部分は父への復譬でできあがっていた。勝手に霊墓アルビオンへと潜り、こともあろうに前妻と息子を捨てて、生還した父。後妻に自分を産ませて、腑抜けのまま亡くなった父。そんな父のすべてがくだらないと証明するため、彼女はノーリッジの養子になって法政科へ潜り込むという、家系の後押しがない魔術師からすればこれ以上ない王道ルートを辿った。 その結果として、偶然法政科・情報部門のデータから、ドクター・ハートレスという奇妙にひっかかりを覚える人物に目をつけることとなり、ひょっとして生き別れの兄=化野九郎なのではという仮説を立てて、彼を追うようになっていった。 II世が「魔術師としての目的意識は一流だが能力は二流」なら、化野は「能力的には一流だが魔術師としての目的意識はほぼ皆無」なキャラ。本質的にはむしろ魔術使いに近しいのだが、根源を目指そうとしない法政科は、彼女にとって良い居場所だった。 作中記述されなかったが、かけている眼鏡は魔眼殺し。 ハートレス―――兄である化野九郎がかつて持っていたのと同じ、失せ物探しの能力を持つ魔眼を保持している。事件において、菱理が的確なポイントに早期到着しているのは、おおよそこの魔眼のためだ。もちろん法政科で手柄を立てるにも大いに役立っているし、兄を探すのにも活用していた。 余談だが、少し前から、あまり法政科の似合わないむっちりした後輩が入ってきて、実に楽しくちょっかいをかけているとか。

Created by the Witch Morgan, she based the artificial personality within it on the knight with the least adoration for King Arthur from the Round Table. Thinking about the Atlas Contract Incident, that trick seemed more like a plot to “prevent the return of King Arthur” at that time. It was like a strange trick to say “I’ll help with your revival, but I don’t want it to succeed.” Before being created, its true form was that of the Logos React Replica. Using the extreme calculative ability inherited from the Seven Superweapons of the Atlas Institute, it continues to seal Rhongomyniad within it. In its released form, it can of course take the shape of a scythe, but also that of a hammer, shield, hook spear, or even a boomerang. It is also able to use its immense calculative ability to display a portion of the power of Rhongomyniad itself. The appearance of the knight in “The Atlas Contract” occurred due to the same theoretical principle. Their personality was a result of a complex merger of that original knight’s and the present day Add’s, so strictly speaking it belonged to neither of them. That was likely why it was able to finally deploy the Pseudo Phantasm. For Gray, Add was her only friend for a long time. After being given entirely free reign in the Iselma incident, she began to follow the Heartless case entirely out of a sense of curiosity. In the middle of the incident, however, the Neutralist faction commissioned her for a formal investigation. In normal circumstances she would have simply refused the assignment, but at that time the compensation she was supposed to receive from Iselma had been reduced to ash (by her own hands). Oh, what a travesty, doll maker! Furthermore, due to circumstances, she already had experience visiting the Spiritual Tomb of Albion. Normally they are disguised as gloves or boots, but by removing their tag, they revert to their original form. Used by a large number of Executors, they come in a variety of forms. Her elemental affinity is Water. Her specialty is Elemental Conversion Magecraft. As was stated during the story, she is the adopted daughter of Magdanel. The story of how she ended up being adopted is essentially as Magdanel explained. Of course, Magdanel decided to include her in the Albion Investigation team in order to get ahead of the other factions, but the idea of going out of his way to adopt her formally was simply because he took a liking to her way of life. She was not particularly unhappy with Kurou’s faint feelings for her. So, when Kurou entreated Magdanel for guidance, and he inevitably ended up making contact with Heartless, she also entered Heartless’ tutelage, trying numerous times to get him back on the right path. But in the end, all her efforts were for naught, and she ended up having to take his life herself. Perhaps she was the one most manipulated by the Clock Tower’s scheming “Hey, Kurou.” “What’s up?” “I don’t particularly dislike the underground, you know. It’s scary, but there is so much more to be gained than that.” One is left to wonder whether she remembers that conversation from long ago. アシェアラ・ミストラス【人名】 クロウたちとともに霊墓アルビオンに挑み、やがてドクター・ハートレスの弟子となった五人のひとり。属性は水。元素変換魔術を得意とする。 作中語られた通り、マグダネルの養女でもある。養女となった過程は、おおよそマグダネルが語った通り。もちろん、霊墓アルビオンの現役探索者を引き入れ、ほかの派閥に先んじようという考えはマグダネルにあったものの、わざわざ養女としたのはアシェアラという女の在り方が気に入ったからにほかならない。 かつてのクロウには淡い想いを寄せられ、彼女もまた憎からず思っていた。だからこそ、クロウをマグダネルのもとに誘導しようとしたが、因果の必然か、彼はハートレスと接触してしまった。以後、彼女自身もハートレスの弟子となって、何度か軌道修正をしようとしたものの、すべて失敗。 結局、クロウを殺さざるを得なくなってしまった。ある意味、時計塔の策謀に最も踊らされたのが彼女だったのかもしれない。 「ねえ、クロウ」 「なんだい」 「私、地下は嫌いじゃないわ。怖いけれど、それ以上の恵みがここにはあるから」 かつての会話を、彼女は覚えていたかどうか。

Atram Galiasta

English Japanese Atram Galiasta [Person] An oil magnate. In the Fifth Holy Grail War, he was Caster’s Master. The original Fate/stay night and Case Files were set to take place in the same world, but upon seeing his first appearance in the UBW anime, the author was brought to tears of laughter. Though in his first appearance he was described as a middle-aged man of medium build, when it was said he would “change a little” for that adaptation, that “little change” ended up being enormous! The basic concept was a Shinji with a decent amount of skill and success (See Fate/stay night). With El-Melloi II’s concept as a “Shinji’s Revenge” story, the two had an odd sympathy for each other, though perhaps that was the natural result. As the UBW anime demonstrated, he was fundamentally a bad person, but being a bad person doesn’t mean he had no redeeming or lovable qualities whatsoever. After Volume 3, up until the point he departed for the Fifth Holy Grail War, he visited El-Melloi II about once a week to brag, ensnaring himself in a diplomatic battle between himself, Melvin, and Yvette. In a way, you could call them the three monsters hanging around El-Melloi II. There was even an incident shortly before he left for the Fifth Holy Grail War in which the three of them, once and only once, worked together. By the way, while in the middle of Volume 2 he was wary of the Lord of the Faculty of Creation Inorai, he had no such fears of Touko. “Someone from the Far East being a Grand must be some sort of mistake,” was his thought process. アトラム・ガリアスタ【人名】 石油王。第五次聖杯戦争においては、キャスターのマスターとなる。 原点である『Fate/stay night』と『事件簿』は同じ世界に位置づけられるのだが、初めてアニメUBWを鑑賞した際の著者は、大いに吹き出したものである。初出では中肉中背の中年と書かれていた彼が、ちょっぴり変わるとは聞いていたのだけれど、ちょっぴりの振れ幅がでかい！ 路線としては、成功して実力もそこそこある慎ニ（Fate/stay night参照）。もともとのコンセプトが、慎ニリベンジだったII世と妙な共感をするのも、自然のなりゆきというか。アニメUBWを観れば分かるように、基本的には悪人なのだが、悪人だから善性や愛すべきところがないかといえば、そんなことはないのだった。 三巻直後から第五次聖杯戦争に旅立つまで、週に一度ほどII世にあれこれ自慢しにやってきていたのだが、その間メルヴィンやイヴェットとは密やかな外交戦を行っていた。ある意味、II世周辺における人でなし三人組だったろう。聖杯戦争に旅立つ前、一度だけ三人が手を組んだ怪奇事件もあったとか。 ちなみに、ニ巻半ばの段階では、創造科の君主であるイノライは警戒してるものの、橙子のことは怖れていない。極東の人間の冠位なんか何かの間違いだろう、ぐらいに思っている。

Bersac Blackmore

English Japanese Bersac Blackmore [Person] Blackmore’s gravekeeper. Most of Gray’s combat ability was beaten into her by this man. If wondering why his own combat abilities were so high, though meaning behind it has more or less been lost at this point, he was the last descendent of the Blackmore bloodline. The magecraft he used in his five minute exchange with Sister Ilumia was also a product of his family, who were a family of Soul Carriers. In Gray’s hometown, (aside from Magdalena, who was only acting the part) he was perhaps the only person that didn’t think of her as some sort of divine child. Though she was named to succeed him as gravekeeper, to have her life ended because she became the vessel for some past hero was too sad for him. Though Bersac, being poor with speech, never was able to say such a thing…his feelings were certainly passed on to Gray. ベルサック・ブラックモア【人名】 ブラックモアの墓守。 グレイの戦闘技術はおおよそこの人から叩き込まれたもの。 どうして、これほどの戦闘能力を保持しているかというと、すでに意味を失いつつはあるものの、彼はブラックモアの一族最後の末裔だからである。シスター・イルミアと五分で渡り合った魔術も、ソウルキャリアーの一族としてのものだった。 グレイの故郷の村では、（演技をしていたマグダレナを除けば）ほぼ唯一グレイを神子などとは考えていなかった。墓守の後継者に指名したのも、このまま過去の英雄の器としてのみ人生を終えるのは、あまりに不憫だろうと考えたため。 口下手なベルサックは、そんなことを話すことはなかったのだが……その意思はグレイにも確実に伝わっていた。

Bestial Magecraft

English Japanese Bestial Magecraft [Magecraft] The name given to the field of magecraft that utilizes one’s bestial nature. While this magecraft eats at the minds of those of the Glascheit family, many other forms of it are more mild. For example, enhancing one’s sense of smell to be like that of a dog, enhancing one’s legs to run as fast as a horse, or enhancing one’s eyes to see in the dark like a cat. Possession by a fox or a dog god, famous in Japan, are also examples of this magecraft. 獣性魔術【魔術】 獣の性質を利用した魔術全般の名称。 グラシュエート家のそれは、本人さえ蝕むものだったが、多くの獣性魔術はもう少しマイルドなものだ。たとえば、犬のように嗅覚を強化する、馬のように足を速くする、猫のように暗闇でも見えるようにする、など。 日本で有名なところでは、犬神憑きや狐憑きもこうした魔術のひとつである。

Blackmore Cemetery

English Japanese Blackmore Cemetery [Site] The cemetery from Gray’s hometown. The land protected by Bersac Blackmore. Originally, the land was inhabited by a family of magi that manipulated spirits, and regarded birds as sacred. The name Blackmore is apparently drawn from a powerful Dead Apostle connected to this family. Though the Dead Apostle in question perished some two thousand years ago, the family took his name as a sign of respect for him. At this point, that family’s original name is no longer known. At any rate, that family has now become one of gravekeepers, and though temporarily, they have been entrusted with the remains of King Arthur. ブラックモアの墓地【場所】 ベルサック・ブラックモアが守る土地。 もともと、この土地には魂を扱い、鳥を神聖視する魔術師の一族が住んでいた。ブラックモアとは、この一族と縁のある強大な死徒の名だったらしい。死徒はニ千年近く前に滅んだが、一族は彼に敬意を表して、その名を一族のものとした。一族がもともと何と呼ばれていたかは、今となっては不明である。 いずれにせよ、やがてその一族は墓守となり、一時的にだがアーサー王の遺体を預かることとなった。

Byron Valueleta Iselma

English Japanese Byron Valueleta Iselma [Person] The manager of the Twin Towers of Iselma. In a literal sense, the creator of the Princesses of Gold and Silver. As the Princess of Gold (that was originally Caleena) said, Byron’s methods had become obsolete for the stage they had reached. Though Iselma’s results had taken a sudden jump, because of that jump, they had reached a point where they needed to rethink their methods. Unfortunately, Byron’s lack of talent to be able to do so could be said to be the greatest reason for the tragedy that occurred there. After the incident, Iselma’s magecraft was almost entirely abandoned, and Byron spent the remainder of his life like the cast off shell that it was…an all too common ending to the lives of modern magi. Though it was mentioned in the story, the one who provided Byron the funds necessary to purchase the linden leaf, the one who guided all his moves, and the one who used the memory alteration spell to hide all of this, was of course Heartless. He believed that Iselma’s ritual of "aligning the lives of humans to the motions of the planets" was necessary for his own ends. バイロン・バリュエレータ・イゼルマ【人名】 双貌塔イゼルマの管理者。 正しい意味で、黄金姫、白銀姫の製造者である。 途中黄金姫（に整形されたカリーナ）が話したように、バイロンの術式はあの段階ですでに時代遅れになっていた。イゼルマの魔術は一定の成果を上げたが、上げたからこそ、すべてを見直さねばならないタイミングだったのだ。 残念ながら、その見直しができるほどの才はバイロンになかったことが、悲劇の最大の理由と言えるだろう。 事件の後は、イゼルマの魔術のほとんどを放棄することになり、ほとんど抜け殻となった残りの生涯を過ごすことになるが……これも現代の魔術師にはありがちな末路。 作中語られているが、闇オークションで菩提樹の葉を買うだけの資産をバイロンに与え、いくらか誘導しつつ、記憶阻害の術式でこれらすべてを隠蔽したのは、もちろんハートレスである。イゼルマの「人間の生活そのものを惑星の運行と照応させる」術式が彼には必要と考えたためだった。

Caleena and Rejina

English Japanese Caleena and Rejina [Person] Twin maids serving the Princesses of Gold and Silver at Iselma. Obviously, for the “production” of the Princesses, the ones who took care of them would also need a similar Concept. For that reason, Iselma set up a system to produce a large number of twins among their branch families. Because of this underlying system, Aozaki Touko was able to turn Caleena into the Princess of Gold with her plastic surgery. Furthermore, as mentioned in the story, there is actually a third sister still living in their hometown. Even if she didn’t know about the sad fate of her older sisters, El-Melloi II sent her a letter that she might at least find some happiness. カリーナとレジーナ【人名】 イゼルマにおいて、黄金姫と白銀姫に仕えていた双子のメイド。 当然だが、黄金姫と白銀姫を「製造」するにあたって、彼女たちの世話をする者にも対の概念が必要とされた。このため、イゼルマでは分家に双子が多く生まれるよう、措置を施していた。 こうした措置の下敷きがあったからこそ、蒼崎橙子もカリーナを黄金姫に整形することが可能となったのだった。 なお、作中で触れられた通り、実際は三つ子でもうひとり妹が故郷にいる。姉たちの悲しい運命を知ることはないにせよ、せめてその分の幸福あれかしと、II世は手紙を送ったのであった。

Caules Forvedge

English Japanese Caules Forvedge [Person] A young magus, originally from Fate/Apocrypha. Of course, since Apocrypha is set in a different world, much of his background is different. Compared to his genius sister Fiore, he was fundamentally ordinary. That being said, his skill in Electricity Magecraft drawn out by El-Melloi II is the real deal. Originally, the magecraft of the Forvedge family revolved around the summoning of low level spirits, but after observing Caules' training for a time, El-Melloi II decided “you are not suited for that kind of magecraft.” Showing an extraordinary affinity for the Primeval Batteries, the “Crafted Tree” he used in the Rail Zeppelin case was something he learned within an unprecedented time of a single month. While attempting to decide what kind of magecraft El-Melloi II would draw out of him, a certain Narita Ryōgo was adamant in his advice that “Of course that has to be Electricity Magecraft!!” Of course, that was inspired by his Servant Fran in Apocrypha. “Crafted Tree” was also named after Fran's Noble Phantasm, “Blasted Tree.” There's no way Caules would have knowledge of this alternate world, but if there was some sort of fate tying those two together…even if it was a thread thinner than a spider's silk, that was enough, or so this author thought. カウレス・フォルヴェッジ【人名】 『Fate/Apocrypha』から出張してきた少年魔術師。もちろん、アポクリファとは世界が違うため、各種設定は異なっている。 天才だった姉フィオレとは異なり、基本的には凡才。 とはいえ、エルメロイII世が見出した、電気魔術の資質は本物である。元来フォルヴェッジ家は低級霊の召喚などを得意としていた家系なのだが、しばしカウレスの訓練を見た後、II世は「君の性質にそれはそぐわない」と断じたのだった。とりわけ原始電池との相性は抜群で、魔眼蒐集列車編で使った『絞首刑の雷』は学習をはじめて一ヶ月足らずとは到底思えぬ威力であった。 なお、エルメロイII世が彼に見出すならどんな魔術だろうと作者が考えていたところ、「そんなの電気魔術しかないですよ！」とアドバイスをくれたのが成田良悟。もちろん、アポクリファでカウレスが使役していたサーヴァント・フランからの発想である。『絞首刑の雷』も、フランの宝具『磔刑の雷樹』にあやかったもの。カウレスは違う世界のことなど意識してるはずもないが、それでも何がしかの縁はあると……それが蜘蛛の糸よりも細い縁だとしても、何がしかがあればいいなと、作者が思ったためである。

Cigars

English Japanese Cigars [Mystic Code] One of the few Mystic Codes carried by El-Melloi II. The tobacco inside was specially put together by El-Melloi II himself. There are many varieties, from those used for defence, for setting up Bounded Fields, for stabilizing the mind, and for activating Magic Circuits. As to why he decided on cigars, after being forced into the position of El-Melloi II, a panicked Waver Velvet was searching for some way to make himself look more Lord-like, to which some drunk magus mentioned that “A cigar and a suit are a man’s weapons.” Or something like that. 葉巻【礼装】 エルメロイII世が持ち歩く、数少ない魔術礼装。中身のタバコはII世が自分なりに配合したもの。防御用、結界用、精神安定用、魔術回路の賦活用などの種類がある。 なぜ葉巻を選んだかというと、エルメロイII世に封じられた後、なんとか君主として取り繕わねばならないと焦っていたウェイバー・ベルベットに、「葉巻とスーツは男の武装だ」と諭した酒浸りの魔術師がいたからだとか。

My deepest apologies… 作図【創作】 作中の図は、魔術関係のものは魔術考証の三輪清宗氏が資料を用意し、ほかのものはほとんど作者が自分で書いた後、デザイナーに清書してもらっている。 結果、霊墓アルビオンの採掘都市において、アギスフェスという痛恨の誤字が発生した。今回のマテリアルではすべてマギスフェアとなっているがこちらが正しい。本当に申し訳なく思っております……。

Druid Street

English Japanese Druid Street [Place] The place where El-Melloi II’s apartment resides. As with any university professor, he can often be seen at cafes in the area groaning over some thesis or other that he is working on. Druid Street is an actual place in London. The place’s name, openness, character, and atmosphere were all taken into account when selecting it as the place for his home, but upon actually visiting the place for research purposes, the author was really moved, thinking “Ah, this really does look like a place he would live.” ドルイド・ストリート【地名】 エルメロイII世が住んでいるアパートのあるあたり。 近所では、エルメロイII世は大学の先生ということで通っており、よく喫茶店で呻吟しながら論文を書いている姿が見られる。 ドルイド・ストリートはロンドンに実在する土地であり、名前や距離感や土地柄、雰囲気を総合して決めたのだが、取材で実際に行ってみると、「ああいかにもII世が住んでいそうだ」という建物が散見されて、作者は大変感動したものである。

El-Melloi Classroom

English Japanese El-Melloi Classroom [Organization/Other] Supervised by Lord El-Melloi II, a classroom where Modern Magecraft is taught by three to five professors (fluctuating over time). For a time the El-Melloi Classroom was the only place teaching Modern Magecraft, so there are some who use the terms interchangeably. Strictly speaking, however, the El-Melloi Classroom is only a single part of the Faculty of Modern Magecraft, a small seminar of about fifteen students. Including auditing students, that number jumps to about fifty. Left alone, there would be a flood of students joining officially, but there may or may not exist a self-governing body of students within the classroom keeping strict control of it. And there may or may not be a black market for tickets to gain entry. In one memory scene, Waver borrows money from Melvin in order to purchase the classroom. Really what he is purchasing is “the right of have a classroom in the headquarters of the Clock Tower.” A classroom in the Clock Tower is something like a castle, so at the time Waver had to borrow enough money to buy a castle. Furthermore, during the course of the events of Case Files, the number of teachers and students in the Faculty of Modern Magecraft grew considerably, reaching the numbers they have today. エルメロイ教室【組織/そのほか】 ロード・エルメロイII世を責任者として、総数三人から五人程度の講師（時期によって変動）が教えている現代魔術科の授業単位。 一時期は事実上現代魔術科=エルメロイ教室だったため、現代魔術科全体をそう呼ぶ向きもある。が、厳密に言えば、エルメロイ教室とはその内のごく一部、十五人ほどの少数精鋭ゼミである。ただし聴講生を含めると五十人ほどいる。放っておくと殺到するのだが、このへんは嫌われがちな自治生徒が取り仕切ってるとかいないとか。闇チケットがあるとかないとか。 回想シーンで、ウェイバーがメルヴィンに借金してエルメロイ教室を購入したというのは、こうしたゼミの「時計塔本部における教室の権利」のことである。時計塔における教室とはある種城のようなもので、このときウェイバーは城を買うほどの借金をしたのであった。 なお、事件簿の頃の現代魔術科全体では、講師も生徒も大きく増えて、それなりの人数となる。

Erosion

English Japanese Penetrating Blade of Gold(Erosion) [Mystic Code] A Mystic Code in the form of a dagger, passed down in Gray’s hometown. According to legend, it was handed down to them by the Black Madonna, to be kept until the time of King Arthur’s return. The blade itself possesses the ability to separate the mind and soul from the flesh. It was intended to separate Gray’s mind and soul from her body, allowing the spirit of King Arthur to inhabit her body in the final stages of the ritual. 侵刃黄金(イロウシェン)【礼装】 グレイの故郷に伝えられてきた、短剣の力タチの魔術礼装。 伝説によれば、アーサー王が戻ってくるそのときまで伝えるべしと、黒い聖母その人によって渡されたのだという。その刃は、肉体から精神と魂を剥ぎ取る力がある。儀式の最終段階において、この礼装がグレイの肉体から精神と魂を剥ぎ取り、代わりにアーサー王の精神と魂を招くはずだった。

Faker

English Japanese Faker [Servant] An Extra class created by Heartless in order to summon imposters and body doubles. Within the story of Case Files, it refers to Iskandar’s body double, who ignores the Ionian Hetairoi. Her Personal Skill “He is Another Iskandar (Fake)” grants her some of Iskandar’s Personal Skills, as well as a distorted version of the Noble Phantasm Gordius Wheel, a sight that shook El-Melloi II to his core on their first meeting. Her true identity is that of Hephaestion’s younger twin sister, born at the behest of the King of Conquerer’s mother Olympias, to protect him for his entire life. Though it may be hard to imagine her as a body double for a man like Iskandar who was over two meters tall, her role as a body double was a magical one. As such, she had no name. After separating from Olympias, Iskandar tried to give her one numerous times. Since doing so would weaken the spells redirecting curses from him to her, however, she rejected each time. Not only that, but for the sake of protecting Iskandar from various forms of curses and magecraft, she developed numerous counter-intelligence schemes. That is why the descriptions left behind about Iskandar don’t match the appearance of the Servant Iskandar at all. The Class name of Faker is, in a way, the first name she ever received. As she didn’t leave behind any anecdotal stories in history, her status as a Servant is rather weak, but she still boasts a considerable and comprehensive combat ability. This results not just from having powerful skills or Noble Phantasms, but from the wide variety of physical and magical options available to her in combat, and her ability to keenly recognize which of those options is optimal for each situation. Just as she said during the story, “Being a warrior is a question of both body, mind, and spirit.” Her love of battle and the skills that saw her through numerous battlefields made it possible for her and Heartless to break through the Spiritual Tomb of Albion alone. Despite how much of a mismatched pair the two of them may seem, her partnership with Heartless is one she finds unexpectedly comfortable. Though it was never discussed in detail, the way Heartless’ life changed after being betrayed by his students and her unwillingness to forgive the betrayal she suffered in the Wars of the Diadochi demonstrated a clear unity of values betwen them. ◆ The Dionysus that Faker references normally corresponds to the god of wine Bacchus, but the magecraft she uses actually points to the maddened Zeus himself. In short, an omnipotent god gone mad. Abandoning reason and embracing infinite chaos is truly suitable as a source for magecraft. Of course, as one who serves the god of wine, nevermind Iskandar, she regularly drank all of his close friends and advisors under the table. In addition, the reason she rejects the summons of the Ionian Hetairoi comes from the following flow of events. “She is called by Iskandar” ⮕ “Immediately before being summoned, she is given the fundamental knowledge from the world about the Wars of the Diadochi” ⮕ “Before the summoning is completed, she rejects it.” A summoned Heroic Spirit, if not from the Holy Grail then from the World itself, receives knowledge about the present era. In the case of Ionian Hetairoi, it is the latter that provides the information. Were she to be summoned again as a Servant, as usual she would forget everything that happened during the course of these incidents. But what if she were summoned as part of the Army of the King? What if she were summoned in a Singularity that ignored the correct chronology of history, or by a system completely different than the one set up in Fuyuki? The answer will remain a mystery until such an event occurs. フェイカー【サーヴァント】 影武者や偽物を呼び出すための、ハートレスがつくりだしたエクストラクラス。 事件簿本編では、『王の軍勢』を無視する、イスカンダルの影武者をさす。固有スキル「彼もまたイスカンダルなのだから」（偽）によって、イスカンダルのいくつかのスキルと、宝具・神威の車輪を変則的に模倣した彼女は、出会った頃のII世を精神的に大きく揺さぶった。 その出自は、征服王イスカンダルの母・オリュンピアスによって、生涯イスカンダルを守護すベく製造された、ヘファイスティオンの双子の妹。 影武者といいつつ、ニメートルを超える偉丈夫イスカンダルと似ても似つかないのは、彼女が魔術的な影武者であるため。 よって、彼女は名前を持たない。 オリュンピアスと離れた後、イスカンダルは何度も名を与えようとしていたのだが、そうなればイスカンダルを狙った呪いを引きつける術式は衰えるため、毎回彼女は固辞していた。そればかりではなく、イスカンダルを狙った各種の呪いや魔術を防ぐため、数々の情報工作も講じていた。後世に残ったイスカンダルの姿が、サーヴァント・イスカンダルと一致しないのはこれによるものである。 フェイカーというクラス名は、ある意味で彼女が初めて得た名前にも等しかったのだ。 人類史にまともに刻まれた逸話をもたない彼女は、サーヴァントとしての格は高くないものの、総合的にはかなり高い戦闘能力を保持している。これは単なるスキルや宝具だけの問題ではなく、魔術や白兵など戦闘で取れる選択肢の多さと、その中から最適解を選び出す嗅覚の鋭さのゆえだ。 彼女が作中ロにした通り、「戦士たるとは肉体と意志と魂すベての問題だ」ということになろう。戦闘を楽しみ、自分の持つ能力で数々の戦場を突破してきた彼女だからこそ、霊墓アルビオンをハートレスとふたりきりで突破することを可能としたのだ。 ハートレスとのコンビは、まるで不似合いのようでいて、彼女には存外心地よかった。 詳しい事情こそはっきり語らなかったものの、弟子の裏切りによって人生を変えられたハートレスと、後継者戦争による裏切りが許せなかった彼女は、価値観の底が一致していたのだろう。 ◆ 彼女が奉じるディオニュソスは、いわゆる酒神バッカスに相当する神性だが、フェイカーの扱う魔術においてはむしろ狂気に陥ったゼウス本人をさす。つまり、それは万能にして狂気なる神だ。理性を打ち捨てた無限の混沌こそは、魔術の源としてふさわしい。 当然、酒の神を奉ずる彼女もまた大変な酒豪で、あのイスカンダルはおろか、酒飲みにおいてはその腹心全員を何度となく負かしたことがあるとか。 なお、彼女が『王の軍勢』を拒否していた流れは、「イスカンダルに呼ばれる」⮕「召喚直前、世界に後継者戦争などの基礎知識を与えられる」⮕「召喚が完全成立する前に拒否」という順番になる。召喚された英霊は、聖杯ないし世界からその時代の知識を与えられるのだが、『王の軍勢』に呼ばれた英霊は後者となるためだ。 今回の事件で起きたことも、再びサーヴァントとして召喚された彼女は当然忘れているはずだ。しかし、固有結界である王の軍勢に召喚された場合は？そんな時系列を無視するような特異点、はたまた冬木のそれとまったく異なる召喚形式で呼ばれた場合は？ 答えは、そのときになるまで分からない。

Father Fernando

Though a member of the Holy Church, he is neither an Executor, nor a man with any connections to the central organization. Though he has knowledge of Mystery and magecraft, he is fundamentally just an ordinary person. For places where the potential need for aggressive action is low, people like this are often sent. Depending on the situation, rather than resorting to violence, people who are able to gently win over others show better results. The Holy Church was well aware of that. For that reason, after reporting about Gray’s transformation, he suffered no small amount as Ilumia was dispatched and their village became a front line of sorts. The prayer Gray offered in the Castle of Separation was taught to her by Fernando. “When someone has been driven mad by loss, even if only a little, offer solace first. The question of the existence or lack of faith can be dealt with later.” Such was the way he taught Gray of the balance struck by the Blackmore Cemetary, no matter that it clearly contradicted the teachings of the Holy Church. フェルナンド司祭【人名】 グレイの故郷に派遣されていた司祭。 聖堂教会の構成員ではあるが、代行者などではなく中枢部にもつながりはない。魔術や神秘の存在は知っているものの、基本的には穏やかな一般人である。すぐさま事を荒立てる必要のない……その可能性も低い場所には、このような人材が配置されることが多い。 場合によっては、荒事に訴えるよりも、ただ穏やかに寄り添っている人の方が、よりよい効果を発揮する。そういうことを聖堂教会は知っているのだった。 だからこそ、グレイの変化についてしたためた自分の手紙によってイルミアが派遣され、グレイの故郷がある種の最前線となってしまったことに、フェルナンド司祭は長く苦悩していた。 なお、剥離城アドラでグレイが口にした教会の祈りを、彼女に教えたのもフェルナンドである。「喪失の大きさで荒れ狂う心をほんのつかのまでも慰めておけるなら、信仰の有無は後から考えればよろしい」 必ずしも聖堂教会の教えとは一致しないブラックモアの墓地との兼ね合いについて、彼はこのようにグレイに語ったのであった。

Flat Escardos

English Japanese Flat Escardos [Person] One half of the El-Melloi Classroom’s legendary duo. The blessed unwanted child. Or, more frankly, the idiot genius. Originally a character from Fate/strange Fake. For most of his lines, the author received assistance from his fellow writer, Narita Ryōgo. Though, Case Files and Fake have a number of key premises that are extremely different. His elemental affinity is Void. Normally, a magus is bound by what magecraft they specialize in. But in Flat’s case, he recklessly creates a new magical formula every time, and hardly ever relies on a preexisting magical Foundation. For this reason, he has the apparently glaring weakness of “being completely unable to use the same magecraft twice,” but he doesn’t care so much about that. Maybe that’s what it means to be a genius. In most cases, he uses one of the following incantations. Casting proactively: “Game Select” (“Interference, Start”) + “Game Over” (“Observation Complete”) Casting reactively: “Play Ball” (“Intervention, Start”) + “Game Set” (“Situation Resolved”) That being said, while the ruby text of “Game Select” may remain constant with each cast, the kanji are decided at the time of casting. This decision is based both on Flat’s whims at the time and any changes he wants to make to the spell’s formula through the meaning of the incantation. Though he may seem like an omnipotent cheat character, his hand-to-hand fighting ability is surprisingly zero. Or rather, negative. He fails out of every single self defense class. That is why even after Svin graduated, Flat was still unable to graduate from the El-Melloi Classroom. The scene of Svin coming back to the classroom and chastising Flat for still causing trouble for their professor has become a regular occurrence. “I’ll ask just in case. Why did you do a drop kick for self defense?” “Because it’s cool, Professor!!” “Alright, die then. There’s no way a drop kick would ever be considered in a realistic self defense scenario, you absolute idiot!” “But Professor, I believe he only failed due to his inexperience.” “…please, Miss, don’t encourage him.” フラット・エスカルドス【人名】 エルメロイ教室の双璧。その片割れ。 天恵の忌み児。もしくは率直に天才馬鹿とも。出典は『Fate/strange Fake』。セリフのほとんども同作者の成田良悟の監修を受けている。もっとも、事件簿とFakeではいくつか前提条件が大きく異なっているのだが。 属性は空。 本来、得意とする魔術に、魔術師は縛られる。しかし、フラットは毎回その場で魔術式をつくり、魔術基盤にほぼ頼らないという暴挙に出ている。このため、そもそも「まったく同じ魔術を二度使えない」などという弱点もあるのだが、本人は気にしたことなどない。天才とはそういうものかもしれない。 多くの場合、呪文は以下の二通りにわかれる。「干渉開始」（主導の場合）+「観測完了」 「介入開始」（受け身の場合）+「状況終熄」 ただし、毎度一致するのはルビのゲームセレクトなどの方だけで、漢字についてはそのときの気分で変わる。このあたりはフラットの気まぐれと、魔術式の変化によって呪文に込める意味が変わるという双方の理由である。 おおよそ万能のチートキャラにも思えるが、格闘センスについてはびっくりするほどゼロ。むしろマイナス。護身術の授業は毎度赤点。これがスヴィン卒業後も、フラットだけはエルメロイ教室を卒業できない理由で、しばしばOBとして訪れたスヴィンに、お前はいつまで先生に迷惑をかけるつもりだと説教される流れが定番となっている。「一応聞こうか。なぜ護身術でドロップキックをやった？」 「はい教授！かっこいいからです!!」 「よし死ね。実戦的な護身術でドロップキックなどという選択肢があるはずないだろうこの戯けが！」「あら、それはフラットが未熟だから失敗しただけですわ」 「……レデイ、話がややこしくなるからやめてくれ」

Depending on the horoscope, he uses twelve knives marked for the twelve signs of the zodiac, and is able not only to predict the future but also to manipulate cause and effect within an extremely limited area. For example, things like creating a future where an opponent’s attack doesn’t hit. He was actually one of the survivors of the Spiritual Tomb of Albion, as described in Grand Roll. Though his reputation as a master-killer and labyrinth returnee were decided rather early, the details about the Spiritual Tomb of Albion underneath the Clock Tower were decided rather late, causing quite some issues for the author. フリューガー【人名】 剥離城アドラの招待客のひとり。占星術師。属性は風。詠唱の「Lead me」も、占星術より。ホロスコープに応じて、黄道十二星座のナイフを使い分け、未来を占うばかりではなく極めて局所的ながら因果操作をやってのける。たとえば、相手の攻撃があたらない未来を引き寄せる---などである。 実は霊墓アルビオンの生還者だったというのは、冠位決議で語られた通り。師父殺しと迷宮帰還者の設定は以前から決まっていたが、時計塔の地下迷宮である霊墓アルビオンの設定はかなり後でかたまったため、大いに作者が動揺したとか。

The source of his tenacity was his desire to stand triumphant over the chosen ones of the Clock Tower. Once Lord El-Melloi II, the one who could be called at the top of those chosen ones, bowed his head in deference to him, he at long last felt he had been repaid for the trials of his life, and he agreed to cooperate. ゲラフ【人名】 霊墓アルビオンに住まう、フリューガーの師匠。 元生還者。 とある傭兵の魔術師によって、魔術回路と魔術刻印を破壊され、かつて過ごしていた霊墓アルビオンに舞い戻っていた。フリューガーが師父殺しの悪名を甘んじて受けたのも、彼の死を偽装するため。 その執着の源泉は時計塔の選民どもを見返してやりたい、ということ。 そうした選民の頂点ともいえるロード・エルメロイII世に真摯に頭を下げられたことから、最後の最後で自らの人生が報われたと感じて、彼に協力することとなる。

Gray

English Japanese Gray [Person] The hero(ine) of the story. The closest disciple of El-Melloi II. Taking the detective novel role of Watson, she was pretty much the first character designed for the series. Case Files changed dramatically over the course of its early development, but she alone survived the process mostly unchanged. “A girl who excelled as a gravekeeper, but was afraid of ghosts. And the Noble Phantasm she holds is King Arthur’s…” Such was her catch copy. While there was originally some distance between her and El-Melloi II, the decision to have their relationship gradually deepen was decided at the same time it was decided to make Case Files a series. Making El-Melloi II an important person for her, not as a romantic partner but as a teacher, was also decided at that time. She certainly came a long way since calling him nasty in the first volume. Furthermore, while El-Melloi II proposed that she was “likely a descendant of a distant relative of King Arthur” in the first volume, while that wasn’t just a handwave explanation at all, it would be more correct to say she belonged to a family which was imprinted with the essence of King Arthur. Gray’s family possessed the essence of King Arthur’s physical body, while the Corpse King had the essence of King Arthur’s spirit planted within it, sleeping until the time when the Corpse King should come. Ten years prior, her appearance suddenly transformed, at the same time that Saber (Artoria) was summoned in the Fourth Holy Grail War. At that time, in response to the awakening of that essence, Add’s personality also activated, but in exchange Gray lost her other friends. To the people of her hometown, she had become an object of worship. For that reason, when El-Melloi II was scared by seeing her face for the first time, she took an interest in him, deciding to accompany him. Gray most definitely doesn’t hate her current face. But, the idea of it changing scares her. Her lone friend is one that awoke due to her transformation. In that case, did that mean her existence had any value? Shouldn’t she just allow herself to completely become that past hero? And in the Grand Roll case, as the Servant Saber was summoned once more in the Far East, her body would transform once again. ◆ As a disciple, Gray is extremely devote. Though saying that, for someone used to the austere lifestyle of a gravekeeper, her current life feels rather lax to her. Being left entirely to her own devices when she wasn’t doing work for El-Melloi II, the first two months had her in a state of bewilderment. Of course she had effectively none of the basic knowledge expected of a magus, so her adaptation to the El-Melloi Classroom has been largely a result of cooperation from Flat and Reines. Svin was basically like that from the moment he first met her, so there was no cooperation there. “You’re always taking care of my brother, so isn’t there something we can do for you in return?” “Not really, but…” “But?” “If…if it’s okay, just for a little longer, if I could keep things like this…” Standing in front of the fireplace, with a sad smile, Reines suddenly offered her a new kind of sweet to try. Or something like that. By the way, as far as English spelling, her name could be spelled either “Gray” as in American English, or “Grey” as in British English, and I struggled for a time to decide which would be appropriate. Since she wasn’t born in either country, and I heard that “gray” is perceived in both countries as being halfway between black and white, while “grey” is a paler color, I decided on the American spelling (to emphasize being in the middle of black and white). グレイ【人名】 本編のヒロイン（ヒーロー）。エルメロイII世の内弟子。 探偵小説におけるワトソン役として、企画のほぼ最初に設定したキャラ。事件簿の企画は成立までに紆余曲折を経ているのだが、彼女だけはほぼ変わっていない。「最高の素質を持つ墓守でありながら、死霊を恐れる少女。そして彼女が持つ宝具はあのアーサー王の……」というキャッチコピーである。 最初はII世に対して距離をおいているが、徐々に関係を深めていくという路線は、シリーズ化と同時に決定。II世を大切に想いつつも、恋愛関係とは趣を変えた師弟の絆という方向性もそのときに決まった。いけすかない師匠などと言っていた一巻から、実に遠くに来たものだ。 なお、一巻でII世が「おそらくアーサー王の遠縁の末裔」と言ったのも、まったくのその場しのぎというわけではないが、本質としてはアーサー王の因子を埋め込まれた家系という方が近い。グレイの家系にはアーサー王の肉体の因子、地下の骸王には精神の因子が植え付けられてあり、骸王は来たるべきときまで眠りについていた。 十年前、姿が急激に変化したというのは、つまり第四次聖杯戦争でセイバー（アルトリア）が召喚されたタイミングである。このとき、因子の目覚めに応じてアッドの人格も起動したわけだが、グレイはほかの友達を失ってしまった。故郷の人間たちにとって、彼女は崇拝の対象となってしまったのだ。このため、初めて変異した顔を恐れてくれたII世に興味を抱き、行動をともにすることとなる。 グレイは、けして今の顔を嫌っているわけではない。ただ、変化が怖かった。唯一の友達であるアッドにしてからが、今の姿になったことで目覚めた存在である。ならば、自分という存在には価値があるのか。誰もが望む過去の英雄に成り果てるべきなのではないか。 そして、冠位決議編において、もう一度極東でセイバーが召喚されたことで、彼女の体は新たな変化を迎える。 ◆ 内弟子としてのグレイは極めて献身的。 といっても、墓守として抑制的な生活を送っていた彼女からすると、今の生活はかなりゆるいぐらいである。エルメロイII世の世話こそなにかと手間がかかるものの、ほかは自由にしてよいとのことで、最初のニヶ月ほどは戸惑いっぱなしだった。もちろん魔術師としての基礎知識はほとんどないので、今のエルメロイ教室に馴染めたのは、フラットやライネスの協力によるところが大きい。スヴィンは初対面からほぼすぐにああなったので、協力も何もなかった。 「いつも兄の世話をしてもらってるが、君、何かわかりやすいおねだりはないのかい」 「おねだり、というようなことはないのですが」 「ないのですが？」 「もしも……許されるなら、もう少しだけ、今のようにいられたなら」 暖炉の前で、寂しそうに微笑した彼女に、ついライネスも新たなお菓子を勧めてしまったとか。 ちなみに、英語表記については、アメリカで頻用される「Gray」とイギリスで頻用される「Grey」で迷ったが、彼女の出身がどちらでもないことと、両国でGrayは黒と白の中間だがGreyはもっと青みがかった色だと捉える人もいるという話から、Grayを採用した（中間というのを重視したため）。

Heartless

English Japanese Heartless [Person] Also known as Adashino Kurou. His elemental affinity was originally Earth, but was changed by his experience in the Land of the Fairies. In this work, he stands as the greatest rival of El-Melloi II. Or one could call him El-Melloi II’s shadow. While El-Melloi II could be characterized as one so lacking in talent he is always being saved by his students, Heartless can be characterized by one who is so peerless in ability that he was inevitably betrayed by his students. The magecraft he uses is wide and varied. The Faculty of Modern Magecraft didn’t have much in the way of family lines, and so worked to preserve numerous forms of magecraft of relatively shallow histories. Heartless’ area of study was each and every one of those. Though it is hard to say how much he was aware of it, due to a certain kind of time paradox, having lead the dual lives of Adashino Kurou and Heartless had a large influence on him. Adashino Kurou received all kinds of guidance from his future self, Heartless, causing his abilities to grow at an unprecedented rate. To those around him, it seemed like the pouring of water from one bottle into another, but there was nothing supernatural about it. In reality, his future self knew his own nature and thought process so well that he could provide the perfect teaching and guidance for him, thus transferring all of his skills. …in short, it was an homage to a certain Archer and his relationship with Emiya Shirou in the Fifth Holy Grail War. His ability to completely flip his heart was, as El-Melloi II recognized, not an ability so much as it was a defect. His heart, left behind in the Land of the Fairies, once connected to the body that was now like an empty shell, made a kind of pseudo-teleportation possible for him, an ability encroaching on the domain of True Magic. However, it was an act similar to inserting a scalpel into one’s heart and flipping it over. In the Rail Zeppelin incident, he casually opened his heart twice, but in reality his back was really up against the wall. He was the bearer of Mystic Eyes that could steal and take over the vision of others, the Mystic Eyes of the Usurper. Originally, they were similar to the Mystic Eyes of Finding, only able to find lost things that they were specifically paired with — rare to be sure, but all in all rather low level as far as Mystic Eyes are concerned. However, due to his time spent in the Land of the Fairies, they transformed into “Mystic Eyes that could steal even the vision from Mystic Eyes.” ◆ During the story, he spent ten years on his plan to turn the world of magecraft on its head. This was not because of some anger at Kurou’s friends among the survivors (or his four students, from Heartless’ perspective) betraying him. Having experienced that betrayal twice after jumping through time, he considered that situation to be “a simple result of karma.” Water flows from high to low. Things burned turn to ash. As such, if the system itself never changes, the same things will happen over and over for all eternity. That was why he left behind his position as head of the Faculty of Modern Magecraft and, using every method imaginable, sought to upend the world of magecraft known to the Clock Tower. In this case, the first thing he needed was information to overwhelm the other magi. Carefully picking his allies, he ended up joining forces with Lord Marisbury of the Faculty of Astrology, secretly orchestrating the Mystic Eye Bearer Serial Killings seven years prior. After acquiring numerous sets of Mystic Eyes by doing so, Heartless learned of the truth of the Holy Grail War that the Clock Tower failed to consider seriously, and at the same time decided to keep that information hidden. As a result, Marisbury also recognized that the Holy Grail War wouldn’t be able to satisfy his objectives, and he put an end to his own plans…but that is another story. At any rate, Heartless, knowing about the truth of the Fourth Holy Grail War and the existence of Servants, moved on to the next step of his plan. In short, through the use of the Divine Spirit Iskandar, the plan for the revival of the magecraft from the Age of Gods. The conspiracies of the Clock Tower were nothing more than scrabbling over Mysteries that were already in decline. So, it was better to return to the Age of Gods, where such intrigue was unnecessary, he thought. ◆ As an aside, his partnership with Faker was an enjoyable one for him. Within his life, where he had already predicted his own betrayal, the companionship of Faker who was raging at being betrayed by the Ionian Hetairoi was something he could accept without consideration. In most cases the relationship between Master and Servant is riddled with tension, but regardless of Faker’s opinion of Heartless, Heartless’ opinion of Faker was that he could rest assured in their partnership. Part of the reason much of the malice in Faker’s personality seemed to disappear in Grand Roll was no doubt because of Heartless’ attitude in that respect. Between the times of the Rail Zeppelin and Grand Roll incidents, the pair of them got involved in numerous incidents beyond the knowledge of El-Melloi II. Through it all, Heartless always seemed to be strangely enjoying himslf, an attitude that always brought a frown and a “what’s with this guy?” from Faker. In comparison to the rest of his unfortunate life, the last two months of his plan to upend the world of magecraft were, despite the tremendous upheavel, incredibly calm. ハートレス【人名】 もしくは、化野九郎。 属性は地だが、妖精郷を経たことで変質している。 本編における、エルメロイII世の最大のライバル。もしくはII世の影。本人が才能を持たず、生徒たちに助けられたのがエルメロイII世なら、本人が無類の才能を持ち、それゆえに生徒たちに裏切られたのがハートレスという男だ。 扱う魔術は多岐にわたる。 当時の現代魔術科は、魔術についてあまり系統だっておらず、比較的歴史の浅い魔術を片端から保存していたのだが、ハートレスはこのことごとくを修めてのけたのだ。どこまで意識していたかは分からないが、ある種のタイムパラドックスを含む、化野九郎とハートレスの二重人生も大きな影響を与えただろう。 ハートレスのもととなった化野九郎は自分の未来の姿であるハートレスから指導を受けることで、途轍もない速度で実力を伸ばしていった。周囲からは瓶水を移すようと思われていたが、なんのことはない。本当に未来の自分から、素質も思想も見きった完全に的確な指導によって、その能力のすべてを移譲されていたのだ。 ……つまり、これは第五次聖杯戦争における、とあるアーチャーと衛宮士郎のオマージュなのである。 心臓を裏返すという行為は、II世が看破していた通り、能力というよりは単なる欠陥である。妖精郷に置きっぱなしになっている彼の心臓と、いまや抜け殻になった彼の身体の内側をつなぐことで、魔法の域に近しい疑似転移を可能とするが、これは心臓にメスをいれて裏返すような行為なのだ。 魔眼蒐集列車では、彼は涼しい顔で二度心臓を開いているが、実のところ最大のピンチはあのタイミングだった。 視界を奪う、簒奪の魔眼の持ち主。 本来、対になったものを探し出す失せ物探し程度の―――それなりに珍しいが、格は低い魔眼だった。しかし、これも妖精郷を経た結果、「魔眼の視界さえ奪う魔眼」へと変質してしまっている。 ◆ 作中では、十年をかけて、魔術世界をひっくり返そうと目論む。 これはけして、化野九郎にとって仲間だった生還者たち（ハートレスにとって弟子だった四人）の裏切りに怒ったためではない。時間を越えて、ニ度同じ裏切りに立ち会ったことで、この事象を「単なる因果の帰結である」と、彼は捉えるようになった。 水は高きより低きに流れる。炎で焼かれたものは灰となる。 ならば、このシステム自体を変更しない限り、無限に同じことが起こる。だからこそ、ハートレスは現代魔術科の学部長を辞し、あらゆる手段を厭わず、時計塔による既存の魔術世界を転覆させようとした。 この際、最初に必要となったのが、ほかの魔術師を圧倒する情報である。 慎重に相手を選んだ結果、天体科の君主マリスビリーと手を組み、密かに七年前の魔眼保持者連続殺人事件を引き起こす。これによって多くの魔眼を得たハートレスは、時計塔では重視されてなかった聖杯戦争の真実を知り、同時にこれらの情報を隠匿することとなる。 結果として、聖杯戦争では目的を達成しえないと知ったマリスビリーも、自身の計画を中止することとなるのだが……これはまた別の話である。 いずれにせよ、サーヴァントの存在や第四次聖杯戦争の真実を知ったハートレスは、次の段階へと移行する。つまり、神霊イスカンダルによる、神代魔術復興計画である。時計塔がくだらない陰謀に明け暮れているのは、衰退していく神秘を取り合っているからだ。ならば、そんな必要のなかった神代の魔術を取り戻せば良い、と考えたのだ。 ◆ 余談だが、フェイカーとのコンビは、彼にとって愉快なものだった。 常に裏切られることを予測していた彼の人生の中で、『王の軍勢』の裏切りに激怒していたフェイカーとの付き合いだけは、そんなことを考えずにすむ関係であったからだ。おおよそサーヴァントとマスターの関係というのは、どこか緊張感を孕んだものなのだが、フェイカーにとってのハートレスはともかく、ハートレスにとってのフェイカーは、ずっと安心できる相手だった。 冠位決議のフェイカーがどこか毒気を抜かれたようだったのは、そんなハートレスの態度を見続けたからでもあったろう。魔眼蒐集列車から冠位決議までの間、エルメロイII世のあずかりしらぬところで、このコンビはいくつかの事件に遭遇しているが、そのたびに妙に楽しそうなハートレスを目撃して、「なんだこいつ」とフェィ力ーは眉をひそめていたのだった。 彼の数奇な人生の中で、魔術世界を転覆させようとした最後のこのニケ月だけが、激動の内容にかかわらず、ひどく穩やかなものであった。

Hecatic Wheel

English Japanese Wheel of Demonic Heaven(Hecatic Wheel) [Noble Phantasm] Originally, the Noble Phantasm of Iskandar, Gordius Wheel. Due to the skill “He is Another Iskandar (Fake)” that Faker possesses, she has also gained this Noble Phantasm. However, while Iskandar’s chariot is pulled by a pair of divine bulls, hers is pulled by magically animated bone dragons. Compared to the original Gordius Wheel, it’s Rank and power have diminished considerably, but in exchange it is capable of many more things. One is the autopilot feature shown in Grand Roll. In addition, if Faker pours her own magical energy into it, it is capable of exhibiting a level of power similar to the original Gordius Wheel. The name “Hecatic” is derived from the goddess Hecate, from whom Faker’s lineage of magecraft from the Age of Gods finds its source. Though faint, there is some connection to the Caster of the Fifth Holy Grail War. 魔天の車輪(ヘカティック・ホイール)【宝具】 もともとは、英霊イスカンダルの宝具・神威の車輪。 フェイカーは、固有スキル「彼もまたイスカンダルなのだから」（偽）によって、この宝具を取得している。ただし、イスカンダルの場合と違い、神獣である雄牛ではなく、魔術による骨竜で戦車を牽引する。 本来の神威の車輪より、ランクと威力はやや下がるが、代わりにできるようになったことも多い。冠位決議編で見せた自動制御などはそのひとつ。また、一瞬の威力だけであれば、フェイ力ーの魔力を過剰に注ぎ込むことによって、本来の神威の車輪に匹敵させることも可能。 ヘカティックとついているのは、フェイカーの扱う神代魔術の系統がヘカテを源流としているため。第五次聖杯戦争に登場するキヤスターとの、ごく淡い縁である。

Heine Istari

English Japanese Heine Istari [Person] One of the invitees to Adra, the Castle of Separation. He has the double elemental affinity of Fire and Water. His specialty in magecraft is “Change.” For a human magus, he is in the strongest class of combat ability. A pure and noble “Knight.” Furthermore, as was mentioned in the Kadokawa paperback edition, he mentions that the title of knight wasn’t given to him by “her Highness the Queen.” His reasoning for the use of “Her Highness” rather than “Her Majesty” is that, “someone who is only a member of an earthly royal family isn’t qualified for the highest title.” A very magus-like sentiment. At any rate, he has a background in France, and the character of one who was once a member of the Holy Church. The fate he reached at the Castle of Separation could only be described as a result of coming up against the wrong opponent. An issue of compatibility, as is so often the case in Type Moon. Taking care of Rosalind up until the very moment of his death, his wish was entrusted to Seigen. Though ultimately Seigen was the culprit behind the Adra case…even so, there was no betraying the wish of that knight. ハイネ・イスタリ【人名】 剥離城アドラの招待客のひとり。 属性は火と水の二重。魔術の特性は流転。 人間の魔術師としては、最強クラスの戦闘力の持ち主。高潔なる『騎士』。 なお、角川文庫版では補足してあるが、女王閣下に騎士の称号を授かったわけではありませんからの一言は、さらっと女王を閣下呼ばわりすることで、「たかが俗世の王族に陛下なんて最大の尊称は使いませんよ」と魔術師らしいアピールをしたものであった。とにかく隙のない、フランス帰りかつ聖堂教会気質。 そんな彼が剥離城アドラでああなったのは、ひとえに相手が悪かったとしか言えない。タイプムーンあるある相性問題である。 死の間際までロザリンドを気にかけていた彼は、清玄に望みを託していた。結果からすれば、清玄こそが剥離城アドラの真犯人だったのだが……それでも、騎士の願いが裏切られることはなかった。

Hephaestion

English Japanese Hephaestion [Person] Faker’s older brother. The true Hephaestion. Iskandar’s closest friend…though he didn’t think so himself. While his sister spread such information around, Hephaestion was aware that was simply counter-intelligence. Hephaestion was inserted at Iskandar’s side so as, even if only a little, to reduce the chance of him being attacked. His sister’s relationship with Iskandar’s other retainers was rather poor, a daily pain in Hephaestion’s stomach as he tried to find a way to mend those relationships. If alive today, he would no doubt be accused of having a siscon streak in him. In a way, one could say that fear became accurate after his death. At any rate, when Hephaestion was summoned by Iskandar’s Noble Phantasm Ionian Hetairoi, he was the first to notice his sister’s absence. If summoned as a Servant, he would gain a number of Iskandar’s Skills and Noble Phantasms from his own Personal Skill, “He is Another Iskandar (True).” The difference between his version and his sister’s “Fake” version of the skill is that his version does not copy the acquired abilities at a reduced rank. Conversely, it would be difficult to use them in the ways Faker does. ヘファイスティオン【人名】 フェイカーの兄。真なるヘファイスティオン。 イスカンダル第一の腹心……とは本人は考えていない。 妹はそういうふうに喧伝しているが、あれはむしろ情報工作の類だと、ヘファイスティオンは認識している。イスカンダルの側には、常にヘファイスティオンありと刷り込ませることで、少しでも襲撃を減らそうというものだ。 妹がほかのイスカンダルの家臣と折り合いが良くないことについて、なんとか解決できないかと日頃胃を痛めていた。現代であれば、シスコンの気があると言われたことだろう。ある意味でその懸念は死後にあたったと言えるかもしれない。 なにしろ、イスカンダルの宝具・王の軍勢で呼ばれたとき、妹がいないことに真っ先に気づくのは彼なのだから。 サーヴァントとして召喚された場合、イスカンダルの一部スキルと宝具を借り受ける固有スキル「彼もまたイスカンダルなのだから」（真）を保持することとなる。妹が持つ同名スキル（偽）との違いはランク減少が起きないこと。逆に、フェイカーのような応用は難しい。

Ilumia

English Japanese Ilumia [Person] A nun from Gray’s hometown. Such was her front, actually being an armed agent of the Holy Church. The illegitimate child of a Cardinal, she was entrusted to the Church in order to keep the affair a secret, but that was a history that didn’t bother her in the slightest. Instead, she one hundred percent accepted her current position of delivering punishment without hesitation to those that stray from the will of God. Within the Church, she was a typical representative of the Conservative faction, and as such was somewhat opposed to Father Fernando, but on a personal level she was quite fond of him. A hard puncher who rampages with the Ash Lock, a weapon of the Executors. Though she typically uses her fists to strike out at the world, she is capable with her feet as well. The author is particularly fond of her slightly thicker lips and freckled complexion, like one might see in a foreign drama. Furthermore, the “preference” Father Fernando pointed out of hers was, pretty much just as he said, that cheeky girls like Reines are right within her strike zone. イルミア【人名】 グレイの故郷のシスター。 というのは隠れ蓑で、実際は聖堂教会の武闘派。 枢機卿の隠し子という表沙汰にはできない立ち位置のため、聖堂教会へ送られたわけだが、本人はそういう経歴をまったく苦にしていない。むしろ、主の意に沿わぬものどもを躊躇なく懲罰できる今の立場を百パーセント享受している。 聖堂教会でも、守旧派では典型的な思想であり、フェルナンド司祭とは何かと対立していたが、個人としてはそこそこ好感を持っていた。 代行者の装備・灰錠で暴れまくる、ハードパンチャー。わりと世界を狙える拳だが足も平気で出る。 海外ドラマにいそうな、そばかすと少し厚めの唇が、作者的にお気に入り。なお、フェルナンド司祭が指摘した偏愛は、わりとそのまんまで、ライネスのような生意気そうな少女が、彼女のストライクなのだった。

Inorai Valueleta Atroholm

English Japanese Inorai Valueleta Atroholm [Person] Aozaki Touko’s teacher. Head of one of the Three Great Aristocratic Families, Valueleta. Lord of the Faculty of Creation, she was a Brand, a magus of the highest practical rank. As that consequently places her as the teacher of Araya Souren and a certain other individual, more care was taken in writing her for Case Files than any other character. That being said, when asked about her general image, the response that came back was. “Got it. I’ll leave it all up to you, Mr. Sanda.” The insane image Type Moon had garnered up to that point had just been reinforced. One could say that was the point the author came to terms with the fact that Case Files was going to be accelerated as a whole. She possesses a triple affinity for Earth, Water, and Wind. Her specialty is Sympathetic Magecraft. Though she only showed a brief look at her abilities in the series, she is especially skilled with magecraft using sand, and the small bag she carries around with her at all times can spill out an immeasurable amount of it. Within the series, Touko says something along the lines of “Please spare me one of your pictures at least.” That is because she knows full well what fate awaits those who are drawn in her sand pictures. ◆ In a manner of speaking, she is the idealized image of a magus. She navigates the political sphere as easily as she breathes, and progresses her research in magecraft as easily as she walks. The fact she strongly supported the Sealing Designation of her favorite pupil Touko is a simple manifestation of that nature. Thinking there were issues of greater importance that took precedence, such a conclusion was only natural for her, and so she didn’t hesitate for a moment in her decision. Feeling no sense of contradiction or conflict in her own character, she is like a mountain ascetic still entrenched in the ways of the world, a perfect and powerful woman. Personifying the concept that what the people of any given age loved was to be considered art, unlike many magi of her advanced age, she thoroughly enjoys brand new technologies, like her iPod and her personal computer. Though she as an air of approachability to anyone regardless of their relative standings, her total lack of any pretense has the terrifying effect of feeling like she can see through you right down to your very core. By nature, such pretense and complexity is necessary for humans. These are inventions created by humans so that society can move along unhindered, after all. For a member of one of the Three Great Aristocratic Families, removing that necessary element from everything is a suitable kind of monstrosity, don’t you think? Additionally, her name was given by Nasu Kinoko. As someone in a position of such enormous power in the Clock Tower, like putting the eyes in a Buddha, the author begged Nasu to be the one to name her. イノライ・バリュエレータ・アトロホルム【人名】 蒼崎橙子の師。三大貴族バリュエレータの当主。創造科の君主にして、事実上の最高位・色位の魔術師。 ひいては荒耶宗蓮や某リピートな魔術師の師にもなることから、おそらく事件簿執筆で最も構築に気を遣ったキャラ。というか、おおよそのイメージを伝えたところ、「分かった。三田さん好きに書いていいよ」と言われて、イカレてるなタイプムーンとの印象をさらに強くした。事件簿全体にアクセルが入ったのは、あそこで覚悟が決まったからと言ってもいい。 地と水と風の三重属性。魔術の特性は類感。本編ではちょっとした小技にとどまったが、砂を使った魔術を得意としており、常に携帯している小袋からは無量とも思えるほどの砂を吐き出す。作中蒼崎橙子の「先生の絵だけはご勘弁を」というセリフがあるが、これは彼女の砂絵に描かれた者がどういう運命を辿るか、よく知っていたから。 ◆ ある意味で、魔術師にとっての理想像。彼女は呼吸するように政治を行い、散歩するように魔術を研究しつづける。当時愛弟子であった橙子を封印指定として強く推薦したのも、そうした行為の一環に過ぎない。優先順位が上の事項だと考えて、それが理の当然であると思ったならば、彼女は欠片も躊躇しないからだ。そういう自分について矛盾も葛藤も感じないのだから、俗世にありながら仙人のごとく完成した女傑である。 その時代の人々に愛されるものこそが芸術という創造科の思想を体現し、老齢の魔術師には珍しく、iPodやパソコンなど最新技術を大いに楽しむ。立場にかかわらず話しやすいようにも思えるが、逆を言えば、あらゆる体裁を剥いで、本質を見極めてくる恐ろしい相手である。 本来、人間には体裁も葛藤も必要。 これらは社会を円滑に営むため、人間がつくりだした発明だからだ。 そうした要素を取り除いてしまった彼女は、三大貴族にふさわしい怪物といえるだろう。 なお、命名は奈須きのこ。 時計塔の重要なポジションであるため、仏に目を入れるように、彼女の命名だけはどうしてもお願いしたいと頼んだのであった。

Iskandar

A great Heroic Spirit, whose exploits were only matched by a small handful of others across the entirety of human history. Summoned in the Fourth Holy Grail War under the class of Rider, he was the Servant of Waver Velvet. His Noble Phantasms were Gordius Wheel, the Wheel of Heaven’s Might, on which Faker’s “Hecatic Wheel” was based, as well as the Rank EX Ionian Hetairoi, Army of the King, which could summon forth tens of thousands of Heroic Spirits. Though he never really appeared in Case Files himself, his influence was enormous. Even Heartless himself had an undeniable eye for him. Due to his great exploits in life, some say he was chosen by the twelve historical Gods of Olympus…Heartless’ plan began from that anecdote. Though it can’t be said whether the words Gray heard at the end of Case Files truly belonged to him or not, the resurrection of the box in her hands was unquestionably a miracle. イスカンダル【英霊】 征服王イスカンダル。もしくはアレクサンダー大王とも。 世界史全体を見渡しても、これほどの偉業をなしたものが何人いるかという大英雄。 第四次聖杯戦争においてはライダーとして現界し、ウェイバー・ベルベットのサーヴァントとなった。宝具はフェイカーの『魔天の車輪』の原型となった『神威の車輪』による蹂躪走法、そしてランクEX、数万の英霊を呼び出す『王の軍勢』。 事件簿においてはほぼ本人は登場しなかったが、その存在感は絶大。 ハートレスによって目をつけられたのも、むべなるかな。あまりの偉業ぶりから歴史上オリンポス十二神に選ばれかけたこともある……という逸話より、ハートレスの計画が始まったのだった。 本編最後にグレイが聞いた言葉が、本当にイスカンダルのものだったかどうかは分からないが、彼女の手の中に蘇った匣だけは、紛うことなき本物の「奇跡」であった。

He was aware of Maio’s feelings for Diadra, the Princess of Gold, since long ago. When the true culprit was revealed, he must have been more shocked than anyone else. イスロー・セブナン【人名】 イゼルマに仕える織り手。 黄金姫、白銀姫のドレスは彼の手によるものである。髪を編み込んだ派手な見かけと打って変わって、訥々とした喋り。 真犯人だったマイオや、黄金姫、白銀姫、またふたりのメイドとは幼馴染。マイオが黄金姫ディアドラに寄せた淡い想いも、古くから知っていた。真犯人が明らかになったとき、最も衝撃を受けたのは彼だったろう。

Jeanmario Spinerra

English Japanese Jeanmario Spinerra [Person] A guest on the Rail Zeppelin. A magus who uses spiders. Despite being a magus, he is a media celebrity, being the star of the show Jeanmario Spinerra’s Zombie Cooking, which won popularity across Great Britain. Using the wealth procured from his television show, he hoped to purchase a set of Mystic Eyes from the Rail Zeppelin with which he would get back on the easy path for magecraft, but alas it was not to be. Apparently, having used his new connection with Adashino Hishiri, he continued to pop up here and there around the Clock Tower after the incident. ジャンマリオ・スピネッラ【人名】 魔眼蒐集列車の招待客。蜘蛛を使った魔術の使い手。 魔術師だというのに、メディアで名のしれた男であり、とりわけ『ジャンマリオ・スピネッラのゾンビクッキング』はイギリス全土で人気を博したという。この番組で得た富を使って、魔眼オークションでめぼしい魔眼をゲット、魔術師としての王道に返り咲くというのが彼のプランだったが、残念ながらそうはいかなかった。もっとも、この機会に得た化野菱理とのコネクションを活かして、以降時計塔のまわりに出没するようになったそうである。

Karabo Frampton

English Japanese Karabo Frampton [Person] An Executor of the Holy Church, who boarded the Rail Zeppelin in order to remove his own Mystic Eyes. He was far too kind a person to be an Executor. Unable to control the Mystic Eyes of Transience, they were only capable of overwriting his own memories with those of another. Even so, his willingness to continue the exhausting work of an Executor despite that is a testament to his superhuman willpower. Though he was competent as an Executor…he was of course not at a level where he could cross swords with a Servant. As Heartless alluded to in the fight between him and Faker in the Rail Zeppelin case, his loss of his ordinary vision led to a specialization of the Mystic Eyes, and so he didn’t hesitate in letting them steal the entirety of his life force. For him, it was a fight for revenge that he staked his entire life on, one he had to win at all costs for the sake of the children he would protect. And he won. The Mystic Eyes of Transience are Jewel Class Mystic Eyes. Thinking of something to serve as the "eyecatcher" for the Rail Zeppelin, I thought that if Mystic Eyes of Death Perception are a type of future sight, then what would be the ultimate extreme of hindsight? The result was, as seen in the story, the ability to draw forth anything perceived in the past. That attack was something that couldn’t be protected against by any physical or magical means. It didn’t care about Noble Phantasms or Personal Skills. An anomaly that couldn’t be prevented except by interfering with cause and effect itself. In addition, the idea of time being visible as bubbles is an approach to time being considered by modern science now. カラボー・フランプトン【人名】 自らの魔眼を手放すため、魔眼蒐集列車に乗り込んだ聖堂教会の代行者。 代行者として生きるには優しすぎた人。泡影の魔眼は、彼にはまるで制御できず、他人の記憶で自分の記憶を塗りつぶさせるだけの代物だった。それでも、ずっと代行者としての激務を遂行してきたあたりから、彼の超人的な精神力が窺いしれる。 代行者としても腕利きであるが……とはいえ、本来サーヴァントと切り結べるほどではない。ハートレスも言及していたが、魔眼蒐集列車でのフェイカーとの戦闘は、通常の視力を失ったがゆえに魔眼に特化したこと、魔眼にあらゆる生命力を奪われるのも厭わなかったことが大きい。あの戦いは彼にとって全人生をかけた復讐であり、守るべき子供たちのためにも、どうしても勝たねばならなかった。そして、彼は勝利したのだ。 泡影の魔眼は、宝石の魔眼。 魔眼蒐集列車の『目玉商品』を考えた際、直死の魔眼がある種の未来視ならば、究極の過去視とはなにかと考えたことから設定。結果は、劇中の通り、過去に認識したものを浮かび上がらせることとなった。その斬撃は物理的にも魔術的にも防御不能。宝具だろうがスキルだろうがおかまいなし。因果に干渉できる能力以外では一切阻むことかなわぬ、紛うことなき異常である。 なお、時間が泡に見えるというのは、現代科学による時間へのアプローチのひとつでもある。

The Lord of Mineralogy. After establishing his status as a prodigy by reaching the rank of Pride in his teens, he went on to achieve the rank of Brand in his twenties. From the development of Volumen Hydrargyrum which was recognized as a Supreme Mystic Code, to his betrothal to the daughter of the Lord of Spiritual Evocation, his life could be described as little more than smooth sailing. Expecting the Grail War to be just another obvious victory to add to his long list of accomplishments, he gathered numerous Mystic Codes before setting out, only to tragically fail and lose everything. The name of the Spellcaster that destroyed both his Magic Circuits and his Source Crest was Emiya Kiritsugu. Later, the Sealing Designated man Heartless brought to the Divine Spirit Iskandar’s ritual was a magus of the name Emiya, his father. English Japanese Lord El-Melloi II [Person/Title] It goes without saying, the main character of this story. His real name is Waver Velvet. One of the few survivors of the Fourth Holy Grail War. His elemental affinity is Earth. His specialty in magecraft is Counteraction1. A destroyer of Mystery — though his talent for magecraft is mediocre, he was blessed with an incredible talent for deconstructing. In reality, he doesn’t really possess all that much more knowledge than other magi. When he became the head of the Faculty of Modern Magecraft, he gained access to an incredible amount of materials, but with the amount of work he is saddled with, the amount of those materials he actually has time to study is limited. His real talent is the speed and accuracy with which he can connect the people and events happening before him with his knowledge. Just as Gray pointed out several times, rather than the Mystery or the incidents themselves, he looks more at the magi behind them. Why does such a Mystery exist? Why did they reach for such a Mystery? His eye for judgment is, in the end, reserved for judging people. In particular, his impression that “this riddle is meaningless” that he expressed at the beginning of the Castle of Separation incident shows how well that ability of his was suited to that incident. In contrast, after the Rail Zeppelin incident, once he began pursuing Heartless, that same eye for judgment is what allowed Heartless to drag him along. Without cooperating with Heartless, the riddle couldn’t be solved — such a methodology was the perfect kind of hacking to use against El-Melloi II. After the events of Case Files, in order to stop Gray’s transformation, he turned to the numerous thesis and essays left behind by his predecessor, Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald. For each incident it was planned for one guest from other Type Moon works to be included, and though it was decided (by the author) in the same way to include her, she was the celebrated first guest. Her elemental affinity is Earth. Unlike the Red Devil that is fated to come some day, she is not an Average One with an affinity for all five elements, but her ability to unleash a wide variety of magecraft through the use of a plethora of gems gives her a level of skill that is not at all inferior. Apparently having little interest in the Clock Tower’s own ranking system, though she turns up for the El-Melloi Classroom and the Faculty of Mineralogy, she has no particular enthusiasm for the Clock Tower’s other political games. For a girl who travels from her home base in Finland, plundering secrets and Mystic Codes from magi around the world, the internal conflict of the Clock Tower seems like little more than a storm in a teacup. “Though I recognize authority and history, they are by no means absolute.” Rather, she would likely adore a gentleman she could respect from among the Lords and Nobility. As such, Luvia has a deep-seated desire to support someone she can respect. To write it in a way players of CCC would understand, in short, SG1. Though her too-perfect ringlets are entirely proof of her status as a tsundere, the dere side of her character has yet to make an appearance in Case Files. A tsundere isn’t made up of just one person, after all. The Edelfelt family are a rarity among magus families, taking the name of Scales in that they produce a pair of twins in each generation that both become magi. As such, of course, Luvia has a younger twin sister. As the complete polar opposite of Luvia, she is an introvert with an elemental affinity of Fire. Her marriage has already been arranged, and it is a thing of mutual love. In addition, though it never came up in the story as it wasn’t particularly relevant, the Command Spell used at the end of Grand Roll was actually one that should have been entrusted to the overseer of the Holy Grail War. In short, it was one secretly carried back to their home country by Luvia’s ancestor, who participated in the Third Holy Grail War. ルヴィアゼリッタ・エーデルフェルト【人名】 世界で最も優美（なハイエナ）。 フィンランドの名家エーデルフェルトのご令嬢。ひとつの事件にひとりずつはタイプムーン世界からゲストを登場させるというのが、企画時に（著者の）決めた仕様だったが、記念すべき初ゲストである。 属性は地。いずれ来たるあかいあくまと異なり、五大元素すベての属性を持つアベレージワンではないが、多種多様な宝石を使いこなす魔術の冴えは勝るとも劣らない。 時計塔の階位にはさほど興味がないらしく、エルメロイ教室と鉱石科には顔を出しているものの、それ以上の権力抗争などにはさほど熱心ではない。 フィンランドに本拠をおき、各地の魔術師たちと争って多くの秘伝や礼装を収奪してきた彼女からすれば、時計塔の中の抗争はコップの中の嵐にしか思えないのだった。 「権威も歴史も認めますが、私にとって絶対的なものではありません」 逆に、君主や貴族の中に尊敬できる紳士がいれば心酔するだろう。これで、ルヴィアは尊敬できる相手にべったり仕えたい欲望がある。CCCのプレイヤーに分かるように書けば、つまりSG1。 見事すぎる縦ロールはツンデレとして完成した証だが、デレの対象は事件簿の本編ではまだやってこない。ツンデレはひとりだけでは成り立たないのだった。 エーデルフェルト家は天秤と称され、魔術師の家系には珍しく、代々双子の両方が魔術師となるのだが、もちろんルヴィアにも双子の妹がいる。こちらはルヴィアとは正反対に引っ込み思案な少女で、属性は火。すでに許嫁も決まっていて相思相愛とのこと。 なお、本編では特に関係ない話のため記述されなかったが、冠位決議ラストで使われた令呪は、本来聖杯戦争の監督役である聖堂教会に預託すべきもの。つまり、第三次聖杯戦争に参加したルヴィアの先祖は、アレをアレしてだまくらかし、令呪一画を本国に持ち帰ったのであった。

Magdalena

Seeing in her a fervor that far surpassed that of the other villagers, and considering her closeness to Gray in general, the leader they referred to as Grandmother entrusted her with the dagger Erosion. Gray’s desire to have someone dislike her face was greatly influenced by her mother. To see her once loving mother suddenly seem to forget everything and turn to her as an icon of worship must have been a repulsive sight. As was described in the story, it was all a facade. In order to prevent her daughter from being overtaken by that past hero, Magdalena fought against the traditions of the village for half of her lifetime. Even if it meant her daughter would hate her, even if her daughter would be consigned to a life of lonely despair, she was prepared to do anything and everything in her power to stop that from happening. Furthermore, the one who taught her how to interfere with the village’s ritual was Heartless, who was studying it from the outside. In exchange for information that only an insider could possess, he taught her how to break the ritual. Later, using the results of that research, he attempted to use Faker as a vessel to reincarnate the Divine Spirit of Iskandar. マグダレナ【人名】 グレイの母。 十年前、グレイの姿が変化して過去の英雄となったとき、真っ先に膝をついて崇めたのが彼女であった。その熱狂ぶりは故郷でも群を抜いており、グレイとの縁の近さもあって、おばば様と呼ばれる長から侵刃黄金を預かることとなった。 グレイが自分の顔を嫌ってくれる相手を求めたのも、この母の影響が大きい。かつて慈しんでくれた母が、何もかもを忘れたかのように自分を神の子と信仰してくる光景はただおぞましかっただろう。 そして、本編で看破された通り、そのすべてが芝居であった。 マグダレナは娘を過去の英雄に乗っ取られぬため、自分の半生をかけて、村の因習に挑んだのであった。娘に忌み嫌われることも、娘が孤独に絶望することもすべて覚悟の上で、彼女にできることはこれが精一杯だったのだ。 なお、この際、村の術式に干渉するやり方を教えたのは、この術式を外部で研究していたハートレスである。彼はマグダレナと通じて、内部でしか知り得ない情報を渡してもらう代わりに、術式を破る方法を教えた。 のちに、このときの研究結果を応用することで、ハートレスはサーヴァントのフェイカーから神霊イスカンダルを再臨する魔術を確立させることとなる。

Magic Crest

Like an additional organ added to the body, it won’t be compatible with anyone from outside the magus’ family. In the world of magecraft, the reason older families have such an overwhelming advantage can be narrowed down to primarily because of the number of magic circuits, and the existence of these Magic Crests. The magecraft engraved within that Crest serves both as a magus’ greatest power, and as a curse binding them until they pass it down to their own descendants. At present, El-Melloi II’s Magic Crest is being held by Melvin. Though some people may have witnessed it for the first time in the last episode of the anime, it is truly nothing more than a “square frame.” In short, there’s nothing inside of it at all. In exchange for there being no curse tied to it, it contains nothing but what future generations might fill it with. That’s why El-Melloi II is so hell bent on recovering that Magic Crest. “It’s the number one piece of collateral that guarantees a magus cannot betray you. Taking that away from them is like taking way all the meaning their lives ever had, after all.” 魔術刻印【魔術/その他】 魔術師の家系が歴史とともに伝えてきた、最大の家宝というべき品。 もうひとつの臓器のようなもので、家系以外の人間には適合しない。魔術世界において、古い家が圧倒的に幅をきかせているのは、魔術回路の数と、この魔術刻印のふたつによるところが大きい。この刻印に刻まれてきた魔術こそは、魔術師にとって最大の力であり、子孫に至るまでの生涯を縛り付ける呪いである。 現在、エルメロイII世の魔術刻印はメルヴィンが保管している。アニメ最終回で初公開されたのを観た人もいるだろうが、これは見事に「四角の枠」でしかない。 つまり、中身にまだ何も詰め込まれていないのだ。呪いができあがってもいない代わりに、この中身を今後本人や子孫が埋めていくしかない。だからこそ、エルメロイII世は石にかじりついてでも、この魔術刻印を取り戻さねばならないのだった。 「魔術師を裏切らせないという意味では、最高の担保だよ。最初から生きがいを奪っておくようなものなんだから」

In the present day, the most widespread and most powerful Magical Foundation is the “Teachings of God,” used by the Holy Church. As such, when El-Melloi II exposed how he had been so dominated by such half-hearted worldly desires, his feelings of guilt drove him to despair. マイオ・ブリシサン・クライネルス【人名】 イゼルマに仕える薬師。 伝承科ではさほど目立ったところのない生徒だが、それも当然、彼は人生のほとんどをイゼルマに―――その研究結果に捧げていたからだ。幼馴染へのほのかな想いなど、魔術師にとっては余分。 なのに、半端な俗世の罪悪感に左右されていたことを、エルメロイII世に喝破され、絶望することとなる。

Melvin Weins

English Japanese Melvin Weins [Person] The Tuner of Garbage. Or, the garbage Tuner. The second word to come out of his mouth is always “Mama.” The third is “women.” The fourth is “Money,” but before he can get to his fifth, he’ll start vomiting blood. Truly, from the bottom of his heart, a useless magus. At present, he is the only one remaining who refers to El-Melloi II by the name of Waver. Though his skill as a Tuner of Magic Crests is legendary, it was never something he wanted. His persistent habit of vomiting blood isn’t a gag at all. Without his magical hematopoietic medicine, it would be an ordeal to survive even a single day with his body. As a result, the proper use of his Magic Circuits was rather difficult, so even though he had the talent to reach the rank of Brand, he retired from the competitive life of a magus early. After that many people, including his own father, deserted him. But as a result, perhaps as some strange coincidence, he learned of his extraordinary talent for manipulating the Magical Circuits and thus Magic Crests of others. The father that deserted him returned with nothing but smiles, and many times more people than left him flocked to his side. But, after going out to meet the returning crowd, Melvin had changed a little. “This isn’t because of my environment or anything. I was a monster like this right from the beginning.” So he says, but there was no doubt he began to test those around him more after that incident. This happened around the same time he lent Waver the money to visit the Far East after he bragged about turning the Clock Tower upside down. His mother is a powerful woman, who even that Magdanel acknowledges. Even when Melvin’s father abandoned him, his mother stayed by his side. The tools he uses for his Tuning work that he carries around everywhere were all put together by his mother. The strangely high price for them on the Rail Zeppelin stems from the fact they are a Mystic Code of the Renaissance era, and possess a level of precision difficult to reproduce in the current age. Though his first appearance was at the end of Volume 4, he existed in the proposal document written up a year prior to the release of Volume 1, acting together with Gray as the deciding factors for the direction Case Files would take. If Gray is a character symbolizing the present day El-Melloi II, then Melvin is the character that symbolizes his past. メルヴィン・ウェインズ【人名】 クズの調律師。もしくは調律師のクズ。 二言目にはママ。三言目には女。四言目には金がきて、五言目を口にするときには吐血している心底ダメな魔術師。 現在、唯一エルメロイII世をウェイバーと呼ぶ青年でもある。 魔術刻印の調律師としてはほとんど伝説的な腕前なのだが、けして本人がそうなりたかったわけではない。しょっちゅう吐血をしているのはギャグでもなんでもなく、魔術による増血剤なしには、一日生き抜くのも難しい身体なのだ。 このため、十全に魔術回路を働かせるのは難しく、ひょっとすれば色位も目指せるのではという素質を持ちながら、早々に魔術師の競争をリタイヤした。そんな彼から多くの人々は離れ、父親さえも彼を見放した。 だが、その結果として、他人の魔術回路および魔術刻印を操る調律師としての資質を発見されたのは、奇縁というべきかどうか。見放したはずの父親は笑顔で戻り、周囲の人々は何倍もの数になって帰ってきた。 ただ、彼らを迎えた後のメルヴィンは、いささか変化した。 「別に環境でこうなったわけじゃなし。私が人でなしなのは、最初からのことだよ」 とは本人の弁だが、この事件以降、なにかと他人を試すような行動が増えたのは間違いない。時計塔をひっくり返してやると豪語したウェイバーに、極東までの旅行費を貸し出したのもこの時期である。 なお、母親はあのマグダネルさえ一目置く女傑。父親が見放したときでさえ、彼女はメルヴィンを捨てなかった。メルヴィンが常に携帯している調律器も、この母親が手配したもの。魔眼蒐集列車で異様な高値がついていたのも当然で、もはや現代ではこれほどの精度は難しいとされる、ルネサンス期の魔術礼装である。 初登場こそ四巻ラストだが、一巻発売の一年以上前の企画書から原型となる設定があり、グレイと同様に事件簿の方向性を定めた。グレイがエルメロイII世の現在を象徴するキャラクターなら、メルヴィンは過去を象徴するキャラクターである。

Norwich

Having been fortunate with money for generations, the Norwich family has a tradition of adopting people of interest, causing the name to spread throughout the Clock Tower. Once upon a time, Adashino Hishiri and Heartless bore the name, but later cut their ties with them. Neither of which was a particular concern to Norwich, due to their strict philosophy of “It’s not worth pursuing those who flee.” The name Norwich came to be associated with the Faculty of Modern Magecraft due to the strong backing the Norwich family provided when it was being set up as one of the twelve main Faculties of the Clock Tower. While the current head of Norwich has taken an interest in El-Melloi II, due to their complex political situation, Reines has decided it is best for them to keep their distance. After all, she had long since given up hope for her brother to possess such a sense for politics. ノーリッジ【組織/そのほか】 現代魔術科の別称。 もしくは、時計塔の有名な『足長おじさん』の家系。 代々やたらと金運がよく、これと目をつけた相手を養子にする伝統があるため、時計塔のあちこちに、ノーリッジの名前を持つ者がいる。かつては化野菱理やハートレスもそのひとりだったのだが、のちに縁組を破棄している。両者ともそれでノーリッジと揉めてないのは、「去る者は追わず」を徹底しているためだ。 現代魔術科がこの名前で呼ばれるのは、十二科のひとつとして現代魔術科が成立した際、ノーリッジが強く後押ししたためである。 現ノーリッジ当主はエルメロイII世を目にかけているのだが、政治的な問題でややこしくなりそうなので、むしろライネスが近づけないようにしている。このあたりの政治感覚は兄に期待できないと諦めている義妹なのであった。

With the lessons learned from the Rail Zeppelin incident and the memory of Trisha in her heart, she reappeared in the Grand Roll incident, this time to show off her capability as a Lord’s successor (though her self confidence leads her to overstep her bounds from time to time). After the events of Case Files, she keeps in contact with Reines. Though he first appeared with the impression of a last boss, he ended up showing a rather good-natured side to El-Melloi II, and so ended up like that. His unexpected adaptability and understanding of Modern Magecraft likely stems from his distance from the political games of the Clock Tower, allowing him to judge based on merit alone. As a magus capable of reaching the rank of Brand, he nevertheless found himself drowned in love. Instigated by Geryon himself, Orlocke came to have a relationship with Geryon’s wife. Born from that affair, Granid Ashbourne was genetically Orlocke’s son. The boy he ended up engraving his Magic Crest and personality on to at the end of the story was named Shanon. Perhaps that was the name Orlocke had intended to give to his own child someday… Perhaps the sickness that struck down Orlocke was the same that claimed the lives of Geryon’s wife and son… And perhaps all of that was part of Geryon’s plan from the beginning. For now, it all remains a mystery. Its premise is the inherent Mystery in the process of a butterfly changing to an effectively entirely different mode of life between the larval, pupal, and mature stages of its development. As Orlocke himself described it, it is “the manipulation of the gap between what is certain and what is uncertain,” interference in the act of transformation itself being the core of this strain of magecraft. That was why he was able to transplant his memory and personality into a homunculus made from his own blood and semen. Having caught the eye of the master of the Castle of Separation Geryon Ashbourne, he enlisted Orlocke’s help, and was able to create a method for transplanting Magic Crests into others. …though as the story describes, it was far from complete, and came with heavy side effects (though those side effects were Geryon’s goal from the start). 蝶魔術(パピリオ・マギア)【魔術】 本編では、オルロック・シザームンドの使用した魔術。 その根幹は、幼虫、蛹、成虫とほぼ別の生態に蝶が変じていく神秘性にある。 オルロックがこの魔術を「確かなものと確かならざるもののあわいを操る」と言ったように、変化そのものに干渉することがこの魔術の特徴だ。自分の血と精液からつくりあげたホムンクルスに、記憶や人格を移植しえたのも、その特性あればこそである。 剥離城のかつての主人ゲリュオン・アッシュボーンはその特性に目をつけて、オルロックに協力させることで、魔術刻印を他者に移植する方法を見出した。……とはいえ、本編の通り、これはけして完成はせず、多大な副作用（ゲリュオンからすればこちらが目的） を伴うものだったのだが。

Casually written as "a beauty that can’t be expressed by pictures," they were the first on the list of problems for the illustrator Mr. Mineji and the manga artist Mr. Azuma Tou. Who made this character? It was me. If anything brought to its utmost limit could bring one to the Root, my idea was to follow that premise with a supreme beauty. But, as a “beauty that can reach the Root,” it had to follow a completely different path than even the beauty of a goddess. For a supreme beauty that included every possibility, is that really something human standards would find beautiful? The answer to that question exists only in the hearts of those who saw those two face to face. As a bit of a digression, the correct formula for the spell is not a woman and a woman, but yang and yin — in short, a man and a woman as a pair would have been more correct. The reason it didn’t end up that way is that magecraft already includes properties of the moon, which symbolizes yin, so it was modified to balance out the fact the ritual leaned towards that element of yin from the beginning. 黄金姫・白銀姫【人名】 双貌塔イゼルマのメイン。「絵にもできない美しさ」などとしれっと書いて、イラストのみねぢさんも漫画の東冬さんも困らせ続ける筆頭。つくったのは誰だ？僕だ。 あらゆる極限は根源へと通じる、という思想から生まれた至高の美。 ただし、これは「根源に至るための美」なので、たとえば美の女神などとはまったく違う方向性だ。すべての可能性を内包した至高の美が、本当に人間の基準で美しいものなのか……という問題も含めて、その答えは彼女たちを実際に観た者の中にしか存在しない。 余談だが、黄金姫・白銀姫の術式は本来女と女ではなく、陽と陰---つまり男と女でセットにする方が正しい。そうなっていないのは、魔術そのものが月や陰の属性を含むため、最初から陰に偏ることを念頭においてバランスをとらされているのだ。

The ability to safely extract and transplant Mystic Eyes with one hundred percent certainty was limited to the Rail Zeppelin alone. Though it originally only ran in the heart of Northern Europe, after being destroyed in battle by a certain Grand class doll maker, the original owner disappeared. Once the Rail Zeppelin had finally been repaired, it began to make appearances throughout the entirety of Europe, even being found in Britain, despite it being entirely surrounded by the sea. Miss Touko was really quite thorough. The owner’s representative that appeared part way through is like a shadow of the original owner. Only Gray, whose spiritual sensitivity is extraordinarily high, or people like the conductor and auctioneer who had a connection to the original owner in life, can perceive her existence. 魔眼蒐集列車(レール・ツェッペリン)【そのほか】 事件簿後半を告げる、魔眼蒐集列車編の舞台。 魔眼を安全かつ確実に摘出・移植できるのは、この魔眼蒐集列車ぐらいのものだ。 もともとは北欧を中心に走っていたのだが、とある冠位人形師との戦いに敗れた後、本来の支配人が姿を消し、やがて復活した魔眼蒐集列車は北欧のみならず、欧州の多くの土地で―――海を隔てたブリテンの土地でも見られるようになったのだという。橙子さんマジ半端ない。 途中出現した支配人代行は、もとの支配人の影のようなもの。霊的な感受性が極めて高いグレイや、もとの支配人と縁深い車掌やオークショナーのみがその存在を知覚することができた。

English Japanese Reines El-Melloi Archisorte [Person] A true joy-seeker of a girl. Her elemental affinity is Water. Adopted sister of the previous Lord El-Melloi, Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald. To be accurate, if going by blood relations, she is Kayneth’s niece. Her mother, being particularly average in her talent as a magus, married into the Archisorte branch family instead of taking her own family’s name, where she had a number of children. Following Kayneth’s death, the El-Melloi family fell into a state of great internal discord. As a result, just as described in the story, Reines became the successor after it was determined she happened to have the best affinity for the Source Crest. At that time, in order to put a rest to the strife between the Archisorte and Archibald families and demonstrate her right to succession, she accepted adoption into Kayneth’s family. Though, as a continued act of defiance, she still operates under the name Archisorte. After the events of Case Files, she finally learns to control her Mystic Eyes specialized in precision analysis, and under the tutelage of El-Melloi II, continues to grow her own abilities well in the research field. In the same way she gave a personality to Trimmau, her practical ability to “layer her own magecraft over that of another” is a truly fitting achievement for the El-Melloi name. ◆ Though it’s not demonstrated so clearly in the story, her political maneuvering is vicious. For example, remember how her first meeting with Waver was after she abducted him. The fact she is used to doing such things is a demonstration of her political style. “There’s no way I would dislike Reines.” That’s why, despite learning of the numerous conspiracies occurring in the Clock Tower, when Gray said those words to her, it must have been deeply relieving for her. If one wonders where she learned to be so ruthless in her political dealings and the exercising of her authority, that was influenced greatly by the support she received from a certain butler. During the span of Case Files, however, he was not present, and thus did not appear in the story. ライネス・エルメロイ・アーチゾルテ【人名】 愉悦系少女。属性は水。 先代のロード・エルメ口イ－ケイネス・エルメロイ・アーチボルトの義妹。 もっとも、実際の血縁としてはケイネスの姪にあたる。彼女の母は魔術師としての才能は平凡だったため、家名を受け継ぐことなく、分家であるアーチゾルテに嫁ぎ何人かの子をもうけていたのだが、ケイネスが死んだことからエルメロイ派は激しい内紛に陥った。 結果として、たまたま源流刻印との適性が高かったライネスが継承者となったのは本編の通り。この際、アーチゾルテとアーチボルトの諍いをおさめ、正当な継承権を示すため、ライネスはケイネスの義妹におさまった。もっとも、ささやかな抵抗として、今でも彼女はアーチゾルテ姓を名乗ってるのだが。 事件簿の話が終わった後、精密分析を得意とする魔眼をようやっと制御できるようになり、エルメロイII世の指導もあって、研究畑でめきめき実力を伸ばすこととなる。トリムマウに人格を付与したように、「他人の魔術の上に魔術を重ねる」といった応用技術で、エルメロイにふさわしい功績を打ち立てる。 ◆ 本編では描写されてないものもあるが、政治活動はかなり悪辣。そもそもウェイバーとの初めての出会いが、誘拐したところからスタートというあたりで察してほしい。あの慣れた手際は、つまりそういうことなのである。 「拙が、ライネスを嫌うはずがありません」 だからこそ、時計塔のさまざまな陰謀を知っても、グレイがそう言ってくれたことが、どれほど彼女を安心させたか。 なお、彼女がどうしてかような悪辣な手段を覚え、権力を握るに至ったかというと、とある事情で彼女に仕えることとなった執事の存在が大きいのだが、事件簿の頃には彼女のもとを離れていて未登場。

Because of this, the Magic Crest itself changed in nature, causing it to begin stealing his life force when it was re-transplanted onto Heine. Thus, the plan to seek Geryon Ashbourne, the Master of Restoration’s help, was hatched. After the incident, with the loss of Heine, Rosalind was wrapped up in the struggle for succession within the Istari family. But, having become aware of this, Reines dispatched Heine’s friend Tokitou Jiroubou Seigen to protect her in the name of the El-Melloi family, a duty that would prove no easy task. Though Rosalind and Reines don’t get along all that well, she was thankful in some respect for her giving Seigen a manner of relief from his unending suffering. ロザリンド・イスタリ【人名】 兄であるハイネ・イスタリとともに、剥離城アドラを訪れたひとり。 出奔したハイネの代わりに、イスタリの魔術刻印を受け継いだが、体質との折り合いが悪く過剰適応してしまった。このことから魔術刻印そのものが変質してしまい、再移植されたハイネの生命力さえ奪い取るようになってしまい、修復師ゲリュオン・アッシュボーンを頼るきっかけとなった。 事件の後、ハイネを失ったロザリンドは、イスタリの後継者争いに巻き込まれることとなる。が、これに目をつけたライネスがハイネの友人であった時任次郎坊清玄につけこみ、エルメロイの名のもとにロザリンドを保護する代わり、以降清玄をこきつかうことに。 ロザリンドとライネスとの相性はあまり良くないが、ずっと苦しんでいた清玄をある意味で解放してくれたことには感謝しているとか。

The organization is split into three parts: the Management Branch, responsible for overseeing the function of the entire organization; the Materials Branch, responsible for providing the tools necessary for the excavation and researching Albion itself; and the Excavation Branch which keeps records of the actual investigators. Unlike most organizations in the Clock Tower, since it was set up in a way to prevent any one Lord from monopolizing it, the organization doesn’t lend much weight to the bloodlines of those involved. Rather than magi, it would be more accurate to call them archaeological Spellcasters. 秘骸解剖局【組織】 霊墓アルビオンを探索するための組織。 組織構造としては、おおよそ全体を運営する「管理部門」、発掘・探索のための道具を提供し、アルビオンの研究をする「資材部門」、発掘者たちを登録する「発掘部門」の三つにわかれる。 君主の十二家に権利を独占させないため生まれた組織のため、時計塔のほかの組織と違って、血統主義の傾向が薄いのが特徴。彼らは魔術師というよりも、発掘のための魔術使いなのだ。

And though the official entrances have been locked down, a number of portals leading from the Tomb to the surface have appeared, leading to a slew of disappearances and graverobbings. 秘骸解剖局・管理部門【組織】 霊墓アルビオンの採掘都市マギスフェアを運営する部門。 アルビオンに降りる人間や資材、多くのデータを握っている。 アルビオンに降りられる入り口はごく少数しかなく、管理部門がすべて押さえているのだが、正式に登録された発掘者でも呪体をこっそり持ち出そうとする者は後をたたないため、重要な部門。 なお、正式な入り口は管理部門が押さえてるが、突発的に地上に転移ポータルが発生することもあり、これによる神かくしや盗掘もしばしば。

Since the disappearance of the criminal Gazamy at the end of the last century, Albion has continued to undergo extreme changes, working this department down to the bone. 秘骸解剖局・資材部門【組織】 アルビオン発掘・探索のための道具をつくる部門。性質上、魔術師の工房としては珍しく、同じものを量産する必要があるため、いくつかの魔術師の工房を合体させた「複合工房クリエグラ」を持つ。このクリエグラでは、かつて魔女の道具がつくられてたこともあるとか。 また、アルビオン自体の研究を進めているのも、この部門。前世紀末、かの罪人ガザミィが消えて以来、さらにアルビオンの変化が激しくなり、激務に追われている。

Svin Glascheit

English Japanese Svin Glascheit [Person] One half of the El-Melloi Classroom’s legendary duo. His elemental affinity is Fire, but it’s been somewhat changed. His specialty in magecraft is Regression. Many believed that if it were not for Flat, he would be an entirely ordinary person, but with Gray’s arrival that illusion was put to rest. The incident that made the El-Melloi Classroom aware that their title of legendary pair extended to their weirdness was one month before the Adra incident. Magecraft that borrows the abilities of animals exists all over the world, but the Glascheit family’s strain of magecraft is rather eccentric. It functions not by drawing out a powerful bestial nature, but by transforming oneself wholesale into an animal. Nerves, muscles, bones, and even the cerebrum are rebuilt in a process rivaling the theoretically extinct werewolves. Speaking from the conclusion, rather than a magus, it would be more accurate to describe Svin Glascheit as a vessel for magecraft. That was why he became so captivated by Gray, who was similarly created to be a vessel for a past hero. This is, in a certain sense, similar to Karabo, who was constantly being overtaken by the memories of others due to his Mystic Eyes. Having managed to overcome this unique facet of his nature, if Svin had come to meet Karabo at some point, perhaps he could have given him some advice. Within the story, Svin acquired the rank of Pride. This is not just an acknowledgement of his personal abilities, but Svin himself, who was the crystallization of the Glascheit family’s research, was also taken into consideration. On top of that, having achieved the rank in his teens is a feat rarely seen in the Clock Tower, so it was understandable for El-Melloi II to be struck by such deep feelings on that occasion. スヴィン・グラシュエート【人名】 エルメロイ教室の双璧の片割れ。 属性は火だが、やや変質。魔術の特性は回帰。フラットさえいなければまともなのに、と以前は思われていたが、グレイがやってきたことによって、その幻想は失墜。やはり双璧は変態度においても双璧であった、とエルメロイ教室のみんなに実感させた事件が起きたのは、剥離城アドラの一ヶ月前である。 何らかの形で獣の能力を借り受ける魔術は世界中に存在するが、グラシュエート家のそれはいっそ偏執的と言っても差し支えないものだった。獣の優れた形質を引用する―――というのではなく、自らをまるごと獣へと変容させてしまう魔術。神経も筋肉も骨格も、大脳すらつくりかえてしまうその魔術は、もはやほぼ絶滅したはずの人狼にすら匹敵する。 結論から言えば、スヴィン・グラシュエートは魔術師というより、魔術そのものの器といった方が正しい。だからこそ、自分と同じように、過去の英雄の器としてつくられたグレイに惹かれたのであった。 これはある意味、魔眼によって、常に他人の記憶に乗っ取られ続けるカラボーと同質の葛藤である。特異な才能を持ち、この性質を乗りこなしていたスヴィンなら、もしもカラボーと出会っていれば、何らかのアドバイスができたかもしれない。 作中にて、第三階位・典位に至っているが、これは単に彼個人の能力が認められただけではなく、グラシュエートの家系と、その研究の結晶である彼の身体が加味されたものである。その上で十代での典位は滅多にあるものではなく、II世がようやくここに……と感慨にふけったのも当然のことだろう。

Furthermore, in the illustration of the Thirteen Strictures included in the Rail Zeppelin case, the image of Bedivere included his prosthetic arm. This arm was created for him by a blacksmith he knew, for use when he attended ceremonies. For him, actions taken by the Round Table required the utmost in respect and decorum. Whether the silver arm that appeared in a parallel world was modelled after this one or not, well… 十三拘束【そのほか】 聖剣に課された拘束を認識した聖槍が、「その力タチは美しい」と自らにも課したもの。聖剣と同様に、十三の騎士の祈りが宿っている。 なお、魔眼蒐集列車編挿絵における、十三拘束でのべディヴィエールのイメージで右腕が義腕になっているのは、生前、祭礼などに出席する際、知り合いの鍛治師に造ってもらったもの。彼にとっての円卓議決は最大限の礼を払うべき対象だった。並行世界の銀色の腕はこれをモデルにしたとかしなかったとか。

Tokitou Jiroubou Seigen

Though he is unsuitably good natured for a magus, the fate he met in the Adra incident can be clearly seen in the story. Though it was thought he would leave the stage at that point, he made a brilliant return in the Grand Roll incident. With the Mystic Eye beneath his eyepatch and his prosthetic arm made from a ghost root, he has an unnecessarily high amount of protagonist power. After inheriting the magecraft of the Castle of Separation and taking care of Rosalind, the younger sister of his departed friend Heine, this author couldn’t help but apologize constantly while writing. “You’re such a good guy. Sorry for putting you through all this.” After the conclusion of Case Files, he appealed to a number of magic organizations in order to help save Rosalind, but that’s a story for another time. 時任次郎坊清玄【人名】 剥離城アドラに招かれた魔術師のひとり。 彼の修験道は本来極東に最適化された魔術だが、先祖が西洋の魔術に傾倒していたため、魔術刻印なども保持している。魔術師にあるまじき気持ちの良い好青年なのだが、剥離城アドラでどのような運命を辿ったかは作中の通り。 そのまま退場するかと思われたが、冠位決議編で華麗なる復活。眼帯の下の魔眼に、精霊根の義腕までつけて、無駄に高まる主人公力。かつての剥離城アドラの魔術を受け継ぎ、亡き友人であるハイネの妹、ロザリンドの世話まで見ているわけで、執筆中の著者は「お前本当にいいやつだな。ゴメンなこんな目にあわせて」と、しばしば謝っていたものである。 事件簿終了後は、ロザリンドを助けるため、さまざまな魔術組織と渡り合ってるというが、これはまた別の物語。

As described in the story, her Predictive Eyes of Foresight give predictions that become vaguer the further away the event is in the future, and they are limited to places where she would be in the future, or to places she is conscious herself at the present. Her prediction of Rainbow ranked Mystic Eyes appearing at the Mystic Eye Auction was a mistake resulting from those limits. In short, her prediction that “if she and Olga Marie participate in the auction, Mystic Eyes of the Rainbow level will be sold” was probably brought about by the effects of Heartless’ own Mystic Eyes, twisting the vision of her Eyes of Foresight. Trisha misread the information of Heartless’ Mystic Eyes, which had the ability to take control of even Rainbow ranked Mystic Eyes. The reason she had boarded the Rail Zeppelin was, if Olga Marie could obtain a Mystery on par with a set of Rainbow ranked Mystic Eyes, she would still have a fighting chance even after having fallen out of favor with her father Marisbury. Also, she hoped to reveal the truth of the serial murder case from seven years ago, for which she still suspected Marisbury. Her prediction that she would meet someone related to that serial murder case was correct. Using her Mystic Eyes, she made many preparations for her self defence, but…in the end, her Foresight was unable to protect her from a blade that came from the past. “You fool, Marie. Get it together.” Though as her tutor she was strict, her love for Olga Marie was genuine. トリシャ・フェローズ【人名】 オルガマリーの従者。未来視の魔眼を持つ、不思議髪型系。 属性は水。 作中に描かれた通り、彼女の予測の未来視はより遠い未来ほど曖昧となり、場所については未来の自分自身が存在するか、現在自分がいる（と彼女が認識している）座標に限定される。 魔眼オークシヨンで虹の魔眼が出品されると予測したのは、これによる錯誤だ。 つまりは「トリシャ自身とオルガマリーがオークションに参加して、虹に匹敵する魔眼が出品される未来」を視たためだが……おそらく、この予測自体が視界を狂わせるハートレスの魔眼の影響を受けていたのだろう。虹の魔眼の視界さえ簒奪しうる、ハートレスの魔眼の情報を、トリシャは間違えて読んでしまったのだ。 魔眼蒐集列車に乗り込んだのは、虹の魔眼ほどの神秘を手に入れて、マリスビリーに愛されなくなったオルガマリーに、それでも戦うための手段を与えてやりたかったため。また、マリスビリーに疑念を抱いた彼女が、七年前の連続殺人事件の真相を暴くためでもあった。 連続殺人事件の関係者と出会う、という未来視は正しかった。魔眼に対してさまざまな防御手段も講じていたが……結局、未来視では防御できぬ過去からの刃によって命を奪われることとなった。「お馬鹿なマリー。しゃんとなさい」 家庭教師として厳しくあたっていたが、彼女のオルガマリーへの愛情は本物であった。

English Japanese Moon Spirit’s Spinal Fluid(Volumen Hydrargyrum) [Mystic Code] Supreme Mystic Code of the El-Melloi family. The term Supreme Mystic Code refers to a Mystic Code sufficient to be called symbolic of a family of similar level to one of the Twelve Lords of the Clock Tower. In Volumen Hydrargyrum’s case, it was created by Lord Kayneth in his early twenties, a clear demonstration of the once-Lord’s exceptional talent. Ever changing in form, it is a Mystic Code capable of performing both offensively and defensively without showing any openings. Its true nature however is that of a remote processor. Upon inheriting it, Reines followed the advice of El-Melloi II and created a familiar out of it, endowing it with an elementary kind of artificial intelligence. It was the best advice for Reines who, rather than having the exceptional Magic Circuits of her predecessor, instead boasted a talent for precise control. By forcing it to remember Reines’ precise control, the artificial intelligence is able to imitate it perfectly. The newly christened Trimmau being capable of taking so many various forms is primarily a result of this advice she received. In addition, because of Trimmau’s nature, it has also learned a great many things from Flat’s magical hacking. Though that has included a large amount of unnecessary wit and famous sayings, Reines has thus far turned a blind eye to it for the sake of the other merits it brings. 月霊髄液(ヴォールメン・ハイドラグラム)【礼装】 エルメロイ家の至上礼装。 至上礼装とは、君主を輩出する十二家やそれに匹敵する名家の蔵する中でも、その家系を象徴するに足ると認められた特別な礼装である。月霊髄液の場合、いまだ二十代前半であった君主ケイネスがつくったというのだから、先代がいかに優秀だったかが窺いしれる。 変幻自在、攻守に隙のない魔術礼装でありつつ、その本来の性能は隔絶した演算機であった。 ライネスが受け継いだ際、エルメロイII世の助言を受けて、初歩的な人工知性を付与された使い魔に加工される。これはケイネスほどの優れた魔術回路は持たないものの、精密操作においては特筆すべき才能を持ったライネスに、ベストなアドバイスだった。 ライネスの精密操作を人工知性に覚えさせれば、その通りに模倣してくれるためだ。新たにトリムマウと名付けられた月霊髄液が、さまざまな変形パターンを見せるのは、このアドバイスによるところが大きい。 なお、その性質上、フラットの魔術ハッキングから（人工知性が）学ぶところも多い。余計な知恵や名言を大量に詰め込まれつつも、フラットとの行動をライネスが黙認しているのは、このメリットのためである。

English Japanese Yvette L. Lehrman [Person] Daughter of a family who specalizes in Mystic Eyes, she has a number of Mystic Eyes of her own, fashioned from precious stones, which she can swap out. Though she is capable of activating various types of Mystic Eyes, that effectively means her brain must create an equal number of pathways through which to activate them. Practically speaking, in order to use her eight varieties of Mystic Eyes, the number of times her brain had been tampered with approaches seven times that. That being the case, the fact she has managed to maintain any sort of stable personality is a testament to her genius. In developing plans for Rail Zeppelin, it was obvious that someone specialized in Mystic Eyes would be necessary for the setting, but even so she worked well for it. Being a spy for the Neutralist Meluastea faction, a lover of honey traps, with an eyepatch that looked like it was stolen from some anime, she is overflowing with character. Despite that, she seemed to have a strange sense of unity and robustness, to the point even the author had difficulty pinpointing where her true nature stopped and where the acting began. In regards to her conversation with Melvin in the final volume, since they were both people drenched in lies, for her that must have been one of the few times she needed no deception. イヴェット・L・レーマン【人名】 宝石を加工した魔眼をいくつも取り替える、魔眼の大家・レーマン家のご令嬢。 とはいえ、複数の魔眼を起動させうるというのは、脳にそれだけの数の回路をつくるということに等しい。実際、彼女が八つの魔眼を使用できるようになるため、自分の脳をいじった回数はその七倍に至る。それでいて、いまだ十分に人格を安定させているのは、間違いなく彼女の天才性ゆえである。 魔眼蒐集列車が企画にあがった際、魔眼の専門家は絶対必要と考えて設定したキャラだが、まあ実によく動く。中立主義メルアステアのスパイだったり、ハニートラップ大好きだったり、なにか日本のアニメに毒されたような眼帯だったりと、属性てんこもり。そのわりに不思議な統一感と逞しさがあり、どこまでが本音でどこからが嘘なのか、作者にも容易に読ませなかった女である。 ただひとつだけ、最終巻でメルヴィンと交わしていた話については、互いに嘘だらけだからこそ、彼女にとって何の偽りもない時間だったろう。

Completely separate from his pursuit of magecraft, he has an overwhelming love for theater. Furthermore, he has a strong one-sided love for his daughter (or rather, a distant descendant of his from when he was human). Rumors have it that he adds to her trials out of a joy of seeing her under stress, but there are none who can confirm that. Also, the name Atlasia is a title given to the head of the Atlas Institute. Before becoming the director, he had chosen the name Oberon. In the world of magecraft, where a resemblance of names holds such a deep meaning, the relationship between him and the fairy king Oberon of a Midsummer Night’s Dream is a story only he knows. ズェピア・エルトナム・アトラシア【人名】 アトラス院の院長。 すでに死徒化しており、寿命の限界を超えて活動している。 並列思考の数、その精度において、アトラス院でもほかを圧倒しており、作中ではロゴスリアクトの暴走をほぼ独力の演算で抑え込むという離れ業を見せた。 魔術の道とはまったく異なる趣味として、演劇をこよなく愛している。 なお、娘（というか人間時代の遠い子孫）には偏った愛情を抱いており、困っているところを見かけては楽しそうに試練を与えているという噂があるが、確認した者はいない。 また、アトラシアとはアトラス院の現院長が背負う称号であり、院長に選ばれる前の名をオベローンという。 名前の類似性が深い意味を持つ魔術世界において、演劇・夏の夜の夢に登場する妖精王オベロンとどのような関係性があったのかは、本人のみが知るちょっとした小噺だとか。

Since we have the opportunity, we'd first like to further dive into the 10 years that Waver Velvet has experienced after surviving the Fourth Holy Grail War to end up under his current guise. Makoto Sanda: All right. There are a few story arc ideas I've been vaguely thinking about, and they all have three to four episodes each. What you saw in episode 1 of the anime was one of the three episodes from "Waver's World Travels" story arc, which is titled "The Babylon Incident". That said, I had the screenwriter Ukyo Kodachi put more substance into quite a bit of it. The other two episodes are the "Italian Mafia Incident" that I briefly touched upon in the novels, and "First Lecture in Greece Incident". After that, in the seven years since setting up and mobilizing the El-Melloi Class, am thinking about cases for the "Young Days" story arc such as the one that happened between Reines (El-Melloi Archisorte) and her evil butler. However, those are not as clear as the "World Travels" story arc. I myself do have some feelings of wanting to write the "World Travels" story arc someday, and at the same time it may be interesting to let people run with it via a media-mix given an opportunity like this one. 。

Makoto Sanda: Probably as he became more and more involved in the political theater with the other Lords, he felt that they would look down on him if his voice didn't have a ring of dignity to it. I believe that the seven years he had as Lord served as time for him to learn the necessary political negotiations from Reines and her attendants who are accustomed to the political theater. And there are students that he had taught in those seven years as well... When I talk about it like this, I'm starting to feel like I can expand a bit on the episodes of the Young Days as El-Melloi II now. (laughs) 。

English Japanese —The other important character in this series is Gray. What was the process like in her creation? Makoto Sanda: I went through several different proposals before the original novel series for Case Files ended up in the shape it is now, but she has been a character that has been around from the early stages. Back during the original planning stages, her background that she is a grave-keeper that has been taking care of Arthur's grave was basically set in stone. Being afraid of ghosts was an idea that Kinoko (Nasu) came up with. He told me, "Her background as a grave-keeper is good, but wouldn't it be more interesting if she was afraid of ghosts on top of that?" and I remember I just used that idea right then and there. The fact that she uses the Noble Phantasm Rhongomyniad was a setup that originated from the idea that a human who can unleash a Noble Phantasm would be able to fight against a Servant, and that was solidified at about the same time. 。

English Japanese —Looking at the main characters for this series, there are some from other series in the Fate franchise, such as Flat Escardos of Fate/strange Fake, and Caules Forvedge of Fate/Apocrypha. Makoto Sanda: Reines also debuts in Fate/Apocrypha. It was only for a few pages, though. So other than El-Melloi II and Gray, the first characters created were the pair of Svin (Glascheit) and Melvin (Weins). There is a really special place in my heart for Melvin. For Waver to become Lord El-Melloi II, what kind of characters does he need other than Reines, and what kind of personalities would make things interesting...? More specifically, why was Waver able to depart for Japan all by himself back during the Fourth Holy Grail War? And how did he purchase the El-Melloi Class after he returned? What kind of individual would be able to expand upon El-Melloi II's character? By thinking about those for a long time, Melvin was created as a character. On the other hand, there are parts of him that just popped out into existence. The idea was that if El-Melloi II is a character who has no talent, Melvin would be a character with talent in contrast to that, and he was there when I came upon that idea. 。

English Japanese —Where did you come up with the idea that he coughs up so much blood? Makoto Sanda: Coughing up blood...oh, why was it? (laughs) Though, I did want him to be a character that was lacking in some aspect, to be inversely proportional to his talent. If he was perfect as a character, there would be absolutely no reason for him to assist El-Melloi II. Second, the fact that he's an advocate of pleasure is a legacy that is well-known within TYPE-MOON works, headlined by Kirei Kotomine. (laughs) 。

How do you balance consistency with the settings within the different titles and how the characters are drawn out? Makoto Sanda: In that aspect, Reines was the most difficult to work with. At the point where she made her appearance in Fate/Apocrypha, it was already decided that Case Files would be a thing. (Yuichiro) Higashide consulted with me, "Is it okay for Reines to be something like this?" So quite a bit of the part at the beginning of the second volume of the original novels where Reines is the narrator had been written out during the initial planning phase. I had wanted to solidify how Reines shapes up as a character to myself. —The writers all have such solid coordination with one another. Makoto Sanda: But Caules was more like an afterthought. When Fate/Apocrypha was completed, it was like, "Mr. Sanda, this guy is gonna head off to the El-Melloi Class", where Mr. Higashide naturally shoved him my way. (laughs) As far as the position the character served, that made things interesting, so I went along with it as well. Flat is similar but in contrast to that. Flat originally was a character that was born from an April Fools fanfiction piece by Ryogo Narita in 2008 (Fake/states night). Actually, I was keeping him company as he pulled an all-nighter writing it... That story aside (laughs), in other words Flat is the very first character created as El-Melloi II's student. Which means, he becomes the standard for every other student. —Indeed. Makoto Sanda: Of course, it's obvious if you have taken a look at the series, but while Flat eclipses others as a student within the class, I had to make sure that the class environment was such that it's not strange for him to be there. That was when I created Svin. Flat being the only genius wouldn't let him settle down as a character, nor is it really interesting as a group.
