Ernest Fargo (アーネスト・ファーゴ, Ānesuto Fāgo?) is the head of the Fargo family in Lord El-Melloi II Case Files.[1]
Profile[]
Background[]
Ernest was the head of the Fargo family, a branch of the Animusphere family.[1]
In a desperate bid to obtain immortality to reach the Root without leaving it the next generation, Ernest sought to use variation of the Seven Planets ritual. Going against the Geocentric ModelWP traditionally followed by astromancers, which places Earth (i.e. the soul) at its center, Ernest used the Heliocentric ModelWP, which places the Sun (i.e. the heart) at its center. In order to accomplish goal, he would use his own body and soul for the ritual. He used Fernando Li's research on necromancy to become an undead spirit, and proceeded to divide his own body with the possible assistance of Doctor Heartless. He placed his contained soul, heart, head, chest, arms, and pelvis in the central hall in accordance to the Heliocentric Model. He placed his hair and bones in the study, and placed his legs in the storehouse. By completing the ritual within his mansion, which was a microcosm of the world, he would become one with its inner cosmos, thereby attaining immortality.[1]
Personality[]
Unlike most other mages, who entrusted their will to reach the Root to the next generation, Ernest sought to obtain immortality to reach it himself. His obsession with becoming immortal was great enough to make him perform an experimental ritual that followed the Heliocentric Model, instead of the Geocentric Model traditionally followed by astromancers. He was also abusive toward his maid, Claire, likely beating her on a day to day basis. He treated his daughter like property, even branding her the astrological sign of Saturn to keep her prisoner inside the mansion following the ritual's completion.[1]
Role[]
Lord El-Melloi II Case Files[]
Due to Ernest's body being arranged in Heliocentric Model, many mages who investigated his death were left utterly baffled by him going against tradition. Fernando Li attempted to contact his spirit, but the Bounded Field established on the day of his death prevented him. Figuring the ritual is related to modern magecraft, the Fargo family employed Lord El-Melloi II to investigate.[1]
El-Melloi II eventually deduced Ernest performed a Seven Planets ritual that follows the Heliocentric Model using his own body to achieve immortality. He explains this to Mary Lil Fargo and Fernando upon bringing them to the central hall. He proceeded to unveil an orb containing Ernest's soul positioned where Earth would be since the soul corresponds to Earth in astrology. Soon after doing so, the ritual is activated, and a monstrous ghost of Ernest emerges at the position of his soul. He is able to recognize his daughter, and demands she give him her life to extend his own. He proceeds to attack her, but Gray blocks it with Add's cage.
El-Melloi II explains Ernest's ritual failed due to it being experimental and it going against the family tradition. He further explains Ernest originally intended to become immortal to reach the Root himself. The ritual was meant to make him immortal by him becoming one with the cosmos of the mansion, which represents the world. Ernest procceed to move to where his heart, screaming about reaching the Root. Agreeing with Gray that the original Ernest is gone, El-Melloi sends her to destroy him. Ernest attacks her with a swarm of spirits that cover her body, but she destroy them all with Add's scythe form. He continues to attack her in the same manner, but they're absorbed by Add to increase his size. Refusing to be destroyed, Ernest attempted to consume Gray. He was however destroyed with a single strike of her scythe, and his remaining mana is consumed by Add.[1]
Abilities[]
As a ghost he used his now scythe like appendages for melee combat while launching various blasting curses at his opponents. However, despite these new advantages, he is extremely weak against Mystic Codes that are strong against the undead like Add.[1]
