Identity

A form taken after Jeanne Alter drank Gilgamesh's Potion of youth to become "Jeanne d'Arc Alter Lily" and then gaining the title of "Santa" while aiming to become "Santa Jeanne d'Arc."

It goes without saying that Jeanne d’Arc is a tragic holy woman, but her period of activity was just some extremely short two years. Jeanne Alter is Jeanne d’Arc blackened form that originally did not exist, but as the child form of such “girl that does not exist”, there are no records of Jeanne Alter Santa Lily having existed anywhere on the time axis.

If pressed to say, her personality is actually closer to the original Jeanne. In other words, she is too serious, inflexible and acts rashly at times. She may resort to illegal measures when push comes to shove and, even if there is no need for that, she will not hesitate to use illegal measures if they prove themselves to be more efficient. And so forth.

Her divergent point from the original Jeanne is probably the fact how, upon getting into a panic, she gets all flustered and starts crying in the end, throwing her surroundings into a chaos. Apparently, she herself feels ashamed by looking at the peevishness of the adult Jeanne Alter.

« It seems like she is still embarrassed about becoming a Servant herself and doesn’t know how to deal with her Master. Good grief, she really cannot be helped! »

or so Jeanne Alter Santa Lily says. But similarly, the way how she wants to be spoiled by the Master and yet does not know how to depend on him shows that she is indeed Jeanne Alter before growing to adulthood.

She is not going to become that sort of adult. She so swear. To be more specific, the sort of adult that flip the table out of anger from losing at a party game!

The aspiration as her true self. She calls her "original me", pulls on the sleeve and has her spoil her. Jeanne fawns over her, Jeanne d'Arc Alter's stress piles up, while Tamamo Cat curls up in the kotatsu.

She is on good terms with them both. If possible, she wants to becomes the leader. But she feels that perhaps Nursery and Jack understands adults well.

Christmas Event: The Second Generation is Alter-chan

Meeting with Gilles de Rais late at night and frustrated at Santa Alter, Jeanne Alter tells him her plan to steal Santa Alter's sack and deliver presents before she can. This act, she believes, will make the children like her and make Santa Alter cry. Gilles is concerned, though, about the difficulty of stealing Santa Alter's sack since they both lack  Presence Concealment. In response, Jeanne Alter reveals Child-Gil gave her an invisibility potion. Under its effects, she'll steal Santa Alter's sack, then spend the night delivering the presents. Then come tomorrow, as the children happily open their presents, she'll take pleasure in Santa Alter's lamentations. Believing her plan to be flawless, Jeanne Alter drinks the potion despite her initial fears. However, the potion turns out to be the Potion of Youth as Jeanne Alter is transformed into a child instead. This child version calls her adult self's plan mean but decides to proceed with it out of respect for her desire to be Santa. Introducing herself as Jeanne Alter Lily, she announces she was born to become the next Santa. Then, calling her adult self's invisibility plan dumb, Alter Lily declares she will instead convince Santa Alter that she's the better Santa. She goes into Santa Alter's room to do just that but is immediately and violently ousted. Hearing the commotion, Jeanne d'Arc sees Alter Lily and demands an explanation from Gilles. After she gets an explanation, Jeanne takes Alter Lily to Ritsuka's room.

In Ritsuka's room, Jeanne explains the situation to them. Alter Lily introduces herself as Jeanne d'Arc Alter Santa Lily. Child-Gil apologizes for giving her the wrong potion, for which Alter Lily criticizes him for his carelessness. She also blames her adult self's bad attitude on Jeanne spoiling her. Santa Alter then enters the room and requests to speak with Ritsuka and Jeanne alone. Alter Lily tries to demand Santa Alter's sack, but Santa Altera's threat makes her stop. As Santa Alter speaks with Ritsuka and Jeanne, Mash asks Alter Lily why she wants to be Santa. Alter Lily answers that it's because she'd be the best Santa ever, believing she can deliver the proper and ideal presents to everyone. Knowing about last Christmas thanks to her adult self's memories, she proclaims she can give better presents that everyone will love. Santa Alter, done speaking with Riitsuka and Jeanne, then prepares to give Alter Lily her sack. But before that, She tests Alter Lily's worth in being Santa in the combat simulator. Alter Lily passes and is given Santa Alter's sack. She then leaves with Ritsuka to deliver presents.

Flying through the sky in Llamrei II, Alter Lily criticizes "The Gift of the Magi" for its moral lesson since the couple's gifts for each other were rendered useless in the end. She then read a letter from Jing Ke, who requested a sharp dagger last year but got an "elegant older gentleman" instead. Believing she has the best present for her, Alter Lily and Ritsuka fly down to Jing Ke's cave hideout.

Entering the cave, Alter Lily watches in disappointment as Jing Ke, Ushiwakamaru, and Mata Hari tease Tarasque. Martha soon notices her and Ritsuka, so Alter Lily announces herself. She criticizes the girls for getting drunk but hides in fear when Jing Ke drunkenly touches her. She gets even more scared when Ushiwakamaru threatens to burn everything to bring her out of hiding. Martha then challenges her to fight her alongside the other girls. Alter Lily accepts and proceeds to defeat them. She then gives the girls their presents, all of which are detoxifiers. She scolds them for getting drunk and explains the medicine will help them keep to their duty as Servants. Martha asks her if she made the medicine, to which Alter Lily answers she had a Caster who wore white clothes make it despite not knowing him. As Jing Ke, Ushiwakamaru, and Mata Hari leave to kill this Caster, Alter Lily tries to leave for the next stop with Ritsuka. Martha grabs her, however, and asks her why she gave those presents. Alter Lily answers that she wanted to give gifts that would be useful. Martha disagrees with that sentiment, though, believing Christmas presents are more about bringing joy rather than being practical. Alter Lily highly disagrees, believing a practical gift is better than one that brings joy. She then leaves with Ritsuka after Martha thanks her for the gift and wishes her good luck.

Alter Lily and Ritsuka fly to Japan next. Upon landing, she introduces herself to Fuuma Kotarou as Santa. Kotarou's confusion about Santa being a child annoys Alter Lily at always being treated like a child. She rejects Tawara Touta's offer of candy, stating that everyone knows you're not supposed to take things from strangers. After rejecting Ritsuka's offer of candy, she gives Kotarou his present, a Japanese-English dictionary. She explains it will help him translate his Noble Phantasm's name, which has grammatical issues, into proper English. Touta calls her present terrible, but Alter Lily claims it's for Kotarou's own good. She also disagrees with Touta that a Christmas present should bring joy as she believes a present must be useful to be good. She believes Santa needs to give people useful gifts so they can improve. She and Kotarou then get into a childish argument about what she said that escalates into a fight.

After being defeated, Kotarou accepts Alter Lily's gift. But he will not change his Noble Phantasm's name, instead, he'll use the dictionary to learn a few words of the language of his forefathers. Alter Lily is disappointed in herself upon learning that Kotarou's Noble Phantasm has sentimental value to him. She is thanked for the dictionary though and leaves with Ritsuka.

In the sky, she ponders if her gift to Kotarou was useful, and realizes being Santa is harder than she thought. Suddenly, a "mysterious" Servant introducing himself as Santa Island Mask boards Llamrei II. He tells Alter Lily to persevere in her role as Santa, saying it's Santa's job to always get back up and always deliver smiles. Alter Lily accepts Santa Mask as her mentor to guide her into being a better Santa.

Alter Lily and Ritsuka arrive in a labyrinth but get lost thanks to her lack of direction. She presumably finds people nearby and assumes they're the ones who asked Santa for presents. She prepares to give them their present when she sees they're actually monsters. After killing the monsters, Alter Lily hears the voices of children calling for Santa. Shouting back in response, she is found by Nursery Rhyme and Jack the Ripper. Assuring them that she's fine, Alter Lily asks them if they're the ones who asked Santa for presents. They confirm this, but they're confused since she isn't Santa Alter, who gave them lots of presents last year. They then force Alter Lily to fight them since Santa Alter taught them that they need to fight to earn their presents.

She defeats them, so neither Jack nor Nursery Rhyme gets any presents according to Santa Alter's rule. Suddenly a rose Black Key crashes into the ground marking the arrival of Santa Mask. Santa Mask convinces Alter Lily to pretend to have lost to Jack and Nursery Rhyme. She proceeds to do so, explaining their late victory is because they used Damage over time. Pretending to be too weak to move, she decides to give them their presents. Santa Mask applauds Alter Lily for a job well done, though she feels guilty about lying. After Santa Mask leaves, Jack and Nursery Rhyme invite Alter Lily to their tea party. She thanks them for the invitation, and tells them she'll give them their presents there.

Arriving at the tea party, she deduces that neither EMIYA nor Asterios asked for any presents. She asks Asterios if he wants anything for Christmas, but he answers he doesn't. Believing he doubts she's Santa since she's a child, Alter Lily tells him that she is indeed Santa and demands to know what he wants. Asterios answers he wants fun days like today to last as long as possible. Alter Lily realizes she cannot grant such a wish. She then gives Jack and Nursery a hermitage as their present since she believes they need a quiet place to study instead of playing. She tries to explain why it would be good for them but then decides it wouldn't be and runs away.

As she runs, Alter Lily realizes practically is all she has. She also realizes she has neither wish nor hope as her existence is an impossible one. Yet despite that, she thought she could grant others' wishes instead of her own, which is why she wanted to be Santa. She considers herself a failure, however, as she doesn't know what makes people happy.

Ritsuka, Jack, and Nursery Rhyme eventually find her alone in the middle of a snowfield. Alter Lily is dejected when Jack and Nursery Rhyme when they return their present to her. They tell her, though, that they want to see the sea. Santa Mask appears and encourages Alter Lily to grant Jack and Nursery Rhyme's request since she took back their gift. Alter Lily has Jack and Nursery Rhyme board Llamrei II so she can take them to the sea. But before taking off, she thanks Santa Mask and assures him she'll do her best.

As the group flies to their destination, they are suddenly pulled down by a Servant down below. Upon crash landing, they are confronted by Leonidas. He proclaims he cannot let Alter Lily grant Jack and Nursery Rhyme's wish, explaining it's the order of the mastermind. Alter Lily fights him, claiming it is Santa's job to grant wishes. After he is defeated, Leonidas warns Alter Lily that more Servants are waiting up ahead. He refuses to tell her why he's trying to prevent Santa from granting a wish, telling her to ask the next Servant for details. After Leonidas returns to Chaldea, Santa Mask appears. He asks Alter Lily if she is still willing to continue her journey, even though she will receive no reward in the end. Hesitant at first, Alter Lily answers she wants to grant Jack and Nursery Rhyme's wish instead of forcing a present they don't want on them. Santa Mask tells her to proceed with caution, saying it's up to Santa whether to grant a wish or not. After he leaves, saying Santa may not be a saint, Alter Lily thinks about how she wanted to refute that. She wanted to say that Santa Claus is a noble saint who grants everyone's wish, which is why she chose to become Santa. However, she cannot help feeling what Santa Mask said may be true. She trembles in fear about whether or not she'll be allowed to exist after Christmas. The group realizes they can't move the sleigh, so they decide to move forward without it.

Setting up camp in a forest, the group eats the feast EMIYA had prepared earlier. Later that night, while Jack and Nursery Rhyme are sleeping, Alter Lily asks Ritsuka if they've ever seen the sea. After they give their answers, Alter Lily wonders if it's good for Jack and Nursery Rhyme to get excited about seeing the sea. She has no memory of the sea since her adult self never saw it. She then asks what's the point of going to the sea during the winter since they can only watch it, instead of in the summer when they can swim in it. Ritsuka tells her that she'll probably like it.

The next morning, the group prepares to continue west to the sea when Hassan of the Cursed Arm appears, declaring he cannot let them go to the sea. Alter Lily asks him why to which Cursed Arm answers it's because the real Santa is here. But Alter Lily is suspicious since it sounded like he thought of it when Ritsuka said there were other Santas. Dodging the accusation, Cursed Arm introduces the true Santa, Santam, who asks what is Santa. Alter Lily answers Santa is the granter of wishes, someone who brings joy by bringing gifts. Santam answers Santas are faceless watchmen who work in the shadows. He then unveils himself, but Alter Lily, Jack, and Nursery Rhyme immediately realize he's just EMIYA wearing a mask. This shocks EMIYA since they couldn't figure out Santa Mask's identity. Ignoring that, EMIYA tells Alter Lily he has come to correct her mistaken view of Santa. Telling her that she is no true Santa if she hesitates or abandons this journey, he challenges her to combat to see she truly believes herself to be Santa. Alter Lily is filled with doubt about being Santa, believing that perhaps EMIYA is more suited to the role. Yet despite her doubts, she decides to fight, declaring herself to be Santa since she was entrusted with Santa Alter's sack. After he is defeated, EMIYA tells Alter Lily to move forward, never forgetting she is a true Santa. He then departs, telling her not to forget her duties. Alter Lily looks depressed but tells Ritsuka she will be fine.

Getting closer to the sea, Alter Lily wonders if she will remain Santa or if she will disappear. She and the other girls are then carried by Ritsuka as they run from a horde of living dolls. Ritsuka trips over a pebble, however, so the group is forced to fight the dolls. After the dolls are destroyed, Santa Mask appears and claims he led Alter Lily into his trap. Wanting to take Santa's sack as his own, he explains the first rule of Santa-ing is that Santas must be aloof but fair. They grant wishes and give presents fairly, without bias and self-interest. He says Alter Lily is lost, perplexed, and anguished yet she continues. Alter Lily questions if it's bad to be lost and perplexed, to which Santa Mask said it is. He also tells her that self-interest and the desire to grant wishes are unnecessary for Santa. Jack asks Alter Lily if she wants to come with her and Nursery Rhyme to the sea, as they both want her to. Calling their wish nonsense, Santa Mask demands the sack again, but Alter Lily refuses to give it to him. She declares she will not hand the sack to someone who insults children and decides she must defeat Santa Mask. After defeating him, Alter Lily tells Santa Mask to step aside, which he does since he has seen her resolve as Santa.

As she continues towards the sea, Alter Lily begins trembling from the feeling she kept having. Jack and Nursery Rhyme hold her hands, and the three continue ahead of Ritsuka. By dusk, the girls reach the shoreline. Upon seeing the sea, Alter Lily thinks she probably failed as Santa. She then starts to cry aloud, having now realized she wanted to see the sea. She apologizes to Jack and Nursery Rhyme for bringing them to the sea to grant her wish, not theirs. They tell her that it's fine, believing she did her best as any Santa could. She then listens to the waves with them. Afterward, she runs to Ritsuka, who was watching from a distance. She tells them that she is Santa, even though she's young, immature, selfish, and helpless. Yet despite her flaws, she wants to do her help Ritsuka. She asks them if she can stay with them even past Christmas and beyond. Ritsuka accepts her, so Alter Lily thanks them with a hug.

Christmas Event: Holy Samba Night

Alter Lily and Charles-Henri Sanson are partners in the Santa Tag Team Tournament representing France. She originally wanted Marie Antoinette to be her partner, but Sanson volunteered in Marie’s stead. Her motivation for competing was to ensure no impostors would become Santa, believing an official Christmas needs an official Santa.

Unfortunately, she and Sanson lose to the Chinese team who cheated. Following the match, Sanson tries to calm the crying Alter Lily down, telling her she should be proud that they fought fairly, especially since their opponents cheated. Ritsuka’s party then arrives, having followed the sounds of Alter Lily’s crying. Alter Lily explains why she was competing; She is suspicious of Quetzalcoatl’s official stance of Santa. However, she and Sanson lost because their opponents cheated, but before Alter Lily can explain how they did, Jaguar Man interrupts as it’s prohibited to get firsthand info about a team still in the running from the team they beat. Alter Lilly recalls that Jaguar Man didn’t seem to care much about the rules during the match. Sanson decides they’ll stay to watch the finals when it’s broadcasted. He then cheers up Alter Lily by showing her him skipping a stone on the water. Alter Lily begs him to teach her how to do it as well.

Later, while watching the livestream of the finals, Alter Lily and the other Santa Servants lend their power to Bradamante so she can defeat Black Quetzal Mask (Quetzalcoatl’s evil self), who had donned herself with the very concept of Santa Claus extracted directly from the Christmas Grail.

Abilities

The difference between Karna (Santa)'s and Jeanne's ranks as Servants is so great their would be no competition between the two if they actually fought.

• Magic Resistance (A Rank): Due to becoming Alter Santa Lily, the Magic Resistance Skill that she lost as an Avenger is restored.

Personal Skills

• Gift of the Saint (C Rank): A Skill gained by virtue of completely turning to Santa Claus. Giving away presents enriches the heart. She may still be inexperienced, but her attitude of giving it a serious effort in anything perhaps makes her valuation as a Santa to be same rank as Santa Alter.

• Self-Transformation (A Rank): Normally a Servant is summoned on their heyday, but she is exceptionally summoned as an existence that "will grow from now on". She would become evil if she desires evil, become good if she desires good. Perhaps her future is not a bright one, and still the light of the saint will be bestowed upon her should she wish for it.

• Ephemeral Dream (EX Rank): A Skill that took to the extreme the dream brought forth by an individual's desire, and furthermore even the absurdity brough forth unconsciously by the dream. At any rate, her fate that she would disappear one day would not change. And yet, even knowing that she still desires of the door that leads to the sea.

"Actually originally the design is for Jeanne Alter Santa, and I had already finished up to rough design and all, but then Nasu said "Hmm, we need more twist." I took that into mind and wandered off on reworking her, and thus she is born. Personally, I think that Amakusa being her teacher is her greatest charm (moe?) point. Isn't this like, how the protagonist's old rival takes care of the protagonist's child and like, teaches her everything he knows sort of development!?" (Takashi Takeuchi)
