The Contaminated City in Flames: Fuyuki (炎上汚染都市 冬木, Enjō Osen Toshi?)Singularity F (特異点F, Tokui-ten F?), Prologue (序章?), is the first Singularity detected by Chaldea during the Human Order Incineration Incident in Fate/Grand Order. Codenamed Singularity F (特異点F, Tokui-ten F?), it is located in A.D. 2004.

SettingEdit

FGO Fuyuki
The Singularity was located in Fuyuki City, Japan in 2004 AD. At this point in history, a Holy Grail War was taking place in the city. Following the Singularity's manifestation, the city was engulfed in flames and all humans vanished, leaving only the Servants. The Holy Grail War was also disrupted, being switched to something else. Subsequently, a corrupted Saber defeated five of the other Servants, with only Caster surviving. The fallen Servants were also corrupted and rose as Shadow Servants. At the same time, monsters appeared in the city.[1]

The core of the Singularity is Fuyuki's Greater Grail, guarded by Saber.[1]

HistoryEdit

Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight are suddenly rayshifted to the Singularity following the explosion that destroyed the Chaldea command room. After Mash destroys the skeletons surrounding them, the pair are contacted by Romani Archaman. He confirms that Mash is now fused with a Servant, which allowed her to survive the explosion. Mash suspects the Servant was one provided in advance to investigate the Singularity, but their Master was killed in the explosion. He contracted with her to grant his abilities to her in exchange for eliminating Singularity before vanishing without revealing his True Name. Romani confirms Ritsuka is now Mash's Master. As comms begin to break up, he orders the pair to go to a leyline about 2 km from their location to stablize the connection. After comms are cut, Fou is revealed to have rayshifted with Ritsuka and Mash. They then head for the coordinates Romani provided.[2]

The pair eventually find Olga Marie Animusphere being attacked by monsters. After saving her, Mash explains the situation to her. Olga reveals they are the only ones who rayshifted to the Singularity because they weren't in Coffins at the time of the Rayshift. Rayshifting flesh and blood is unlikely to succeed, though not impossible. Meanwhile, Coffins have breakers that cut off the power when the success rate is below 95%. As they're at the leyline point Romani told them of, Mash places her shield on the ground so Olga can establish a summoning circle. With that comms with Romani are reestablished, but Olga demands to speak with Lev Lainur. Romani reveals the surviving staff is less than twenty, including him. He is only in charge of operation because there is no one ranked higher than him who survived. He suspects Lev died in the explosion since he was supervising from the command room. He also reveals the 47 Master candiates are all in critical condition. Olga orders him to put them in cryostasis immediately. She says Ritsuka, Mash, and her will find the cause of the Singularity while Romani repairs Rayshift functionality. Once it's found and Chaldea is restored, she will send in another team. After comms are ended, the group continue to search for the Singularity's source.[3]

Later, Ritsuka recalls how Olga explained how humanity will cease to exist in 2016. Using Laplace and Trismegitus to review data for the last 2000 years, Chaldea eventually observed Singularity F in Fuyuki City in 2004. It is an "unobservable zone" that didn't exist in history up to the year 2015. As the Singularity is suspected of being the cause of what will happen in 2016, the U.N. approved of the operation to rayshift there and destroy it. The original plan was to have Team A of the Master candidates rayshift ahead and establish a base camp, while Team B and below would stay on standby.[4] Olga later suspects Fuyuki was destroyed when the Singularity changed the outcome of the Fuyuki Holy Grail War in which Saber was victorious. Mash confesses she doesn't know her Noble Phantasm's True Name, thus she cannot release it.[5]

The group eventually encounter Medusa who Mash manages to defeat. However, they're beset by Hassan of the Cursed Arm later joined by Musashibou Benkei. Mash prepares to fight when Cú Chulainn arrives to help.[6] After Cursed Arm and Benkei disappear, Caster explains Fuyuki was suddenly engulfed in flames, the humans vanished, and only the Servants remained. Saber restarted the Holy Grail, and proceeded to defeat Medusa, Cursed Arm, Benkei, Archer, and Berserker. Any Servants defeated by her were corrupted by the black mud. Caster and Saber are the only survivors of the Grail War, and it will end until Saber is defeated. Caster admits he helped the group because he needs allies against Saber. After forming a temporary contract with Ritsuka, he deduces the Greater Grail is the source of the Singularity, and it's guarded by Saber, Archer, and Berserker. Caster says they can deal with Archer if he's with him, but he suggests ignoring Berserker completely. The group then start their search for the Greater Grail.[7][8]

Later, Caster draws misfortune-bringing runes on Olga's coat to attract monsters in order to help Mash unlock her Noble Phantasm. However, even after fighting many monsters, Mash is still unable to use her Noble Phantasm. Caster decides to spar with her to help with that. He unleashes Wicker Man, but Mash unleashes her Noble Phantasm to protect the others. However, she still doesn't know its True Name, so what was unleashed was only a psuedo-deployment. Olga dubs it Lord Chaldeas as a temporary name for Mash to activate it.[9]

The group eventually enter the Grail's cavern. Caster prepares to reveal Saber's True Name and Noble Phantasm when EMIYA interrupts it is King Arthur and Excalibur. After defeating him, the group proceed to the Grail's chamber.[10] They decide to rest since Ritsuka is exhausted by having their Magic Circuits are running at full capacitity for the first time since becoming a Master.[11]

Arriving in the Grail's chamber, the group confront Artoria Alter. She then launches Excalibur Morgan to test Mash's Noble Phantasm. After Mash blocks it, the group fight and defeat Artoria Alter. She declares the Grand Order, the battle for the Holy Grail has only just begun before disappearing. After Cú Chulainn disappears, Olga ponders on how Artoria Alter knew the term Grand Order. Lev Lainur then suddenly appears and collects the Grail. He reveals he caused the Command Room Explosion, and Olga physically died since he planted the bomb under her feet. Trismegistus transferred her into Fuyuki after she became residual thoughts. Therefore if she were to return to Chaldea, her consciousness will vanish. Lev Lainur then uses the Grail to connect the Singularity with Chaldea. Olga is then drawn into Chaldeas and disintergrated. Lev Lainur then reintroduces himself as Lev Lainur Flauros. He reveals Chaldeas turned red because the future has been incinerated. Chaldeas' magnetic field is protecting Chaldea, but the rest of the world is gone. However, Chaldea will be destroyed if the year passes 2016. As the Singularity begins to collapse, Lev Lainur reveals he gave the Grail to Artoria Alter. She caused trouble for him though by wanting to sustain the era. After Lev Lainur leaves, Ritsuka and Mash are rayshifted back to Chaldea.[12]

Ritsuka wakes up in their room, where they meet Leonardo da Vinci. At the command room, Romani demonstrates seven Singularities have manifested at the eras that serve as the Foundations of Humanity. He orders Ritsuka and Mash to rayshift to these Singularities and destroy them to save humanity and its future. Their target for each Singularity will be the era's relic and the Grail. History will stand against their struggle to save humanity. Romani then abandons the original mission name, First Order, and calls the mission to save humanity Grand Order.[12]
