Gaius Julius CaesarWP (ガイウス・ユリウス・カエサルWP, Gaiusu Yuriusu Kaesaru?), Class Name Saber (セイバー, Seibā?), is a Saber-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
One of the greatest heroes of ancient RomeWP.[2] A person of the 1st Century BC.[1] An outstanding sovereign and a general that made a name for himself in the Gallic WarsWP and the BritanniaWP Expedition. A descendant of the goddess Venus, it has been said that this womanizer had a child with a fairy that was far from human.[2] He is also known by his English name Julius Caesar.[1]
History[]
A superpower that continues to struggle with power struggles and wars, its name is Rome. Being the world’s largest assembly, if one wants to climb the ranks, not only does one need strength based on a sword of a savage tribe of a savage land, but it is also necessary to sharpen one’s intellect by means of conflict. An enormous vortex of cruelty.[1]
Then, Caesar was born————[1]
The current state of the Roman ruling classes is that they kill and are killed, incidentally by means of trickery. Although he was temporarily away from the capital of Rome, Caesar himself chose to plunge into the vortex of conspiracies after Roman dictatorWP SullaWP died. His first move was applying an impeachment of the governor-general for his corruption and oppression of the people of the Roman provinces. Bringing him down with nothing but his speech, Caesar additionally, even during the time of the Roman consulWP that had tremendous support and popularity, advocated with his voice, words, hand movements and bodily gestures that the government should not be instigating on the good will of the Roman citizens by means of evil intentions. His truth has become his sword, and surely his tongue as well.[1]
Nights passes where he schemed to kill his enemies while protecting his life. These two objectives were being repeated. After continually coming out favorably in his successful career, he took up a new post as Roman governor of Hispania TarraconensisWP. Then, after carrying out a triumphant return from bringing down the OrientWP and promptly defeating numerous powerful resistances that have yet to obey the Romans, Caesar became a Roman consulWP. Thus commences the origin of the First TriumvirateWP, the Gallic Wars. Repeatedly suppressing and crushing his oppositions such as the GaulsWP, the BelgaeWP, the GermanicsWP and the AquitaniansWP, and occasionally having hard battles during his strikes on Britannia, Caesar took and subjugated the whole land of GaulWP over several years. He won the title of the strongest general and received tremendous support from the masses. After the death of one of the three triumvirs, CrassusWP, the other triumvir who remained, the great commander PompeyWP, parted from Caesar and was later assassinated. Caesar then became the most powerful person in Rome in both name and reality.[1]
And then, he met her. In AlexandriaWP, the capital city of EgyptWP. It was love at first sight on Cleopatra, the ceremonial wife of Ptolemy XIII Theos PhilopatorWP of whom they are joint rulers, but the former worthy enough to be a queen. He himself was 40 years old while his companion was a young girl, separated by 20 years in age. His steel resolution started to creep into his foundation, this being by no means his feelings for her. Speaking of the characteristics of her beauty, her heightened pride regards her own people and country, and now, it is as if that temperament and pride became her form. Upon seeing that, Caesar swore to protect the beautiful young queen. For him who freely proceeded with marriages and divorces to come about his purposes of political strife, and for him who was handed many women for him to flirt with, this was his first love.[1]
Together with Cleopatra, Caesar dreamt of the second coming of the powerful “Roman Egyptian Empire” that King Iskandar once accomplished. Subjugating Egypt and removing Ptolemy XIVWP, he invaded every kingdom near Egypt one after another and gained total control of the Roman SenateWP faction lurking secretly in their countries. After gaining total control of HispaniaWP, he finally accomplished the subjugation of the Roman RepublicWP. Caesar reigned over ancient Rome as the first lifetime Roman dictator. He tells his beloved queen: “There is no one who will hinder me. I seized all of Rome. As soon as the expedition of the Kingdom of ParthiaWP is successful, I will certainly and officially welcome you as my wife and announce to the world far and wide of our son CaesarionWP.”[1]
But, it was not done. Caesar truly did have all of Rome in his hands, but the vortex of cruelty surrounding Rome, becoming something like a curse, did not allow love and peace to continue every day. That is, it came in the form of a single blade. At the Theatre of PompeyWP, BrutusWP, a loyal retainer of his who became a tool for the remnants of the Roman Senate faction, raised overhead a single knife————[1]
Appearance[]
Gaius Julius Caesar appears to be a man in his mid-twenties, wearing a red coat of a uniform with golden buttons over a white shirt, a pink tie, shoulder pads, and a white skirt. However, his most defining trait is the fact that he is extremely overweight, an oddity amongst Heroic Spirits. He is always seen wearing a corona obsidionalis (grass crown).
His sword, Crocea Mors, is a golden sword with a cross-shaped hilt and guard, decorated with blue symbols. Said hilt is also blue and possesses a spherical jewel at its bottom.
In his second Ascension, a golden plated armour is added, protecting his volumous torso, with short red sashes attached to it, and a red cape with a white collar of fur appears on him as well.
In his third Ascension, his left arm obtains a disproportionate armour and gauntlet, much bigger than the arm of a normal human, coloured white. His grass crown also goes from green to golden, a reference to how it was depicted by an artist in order to represent his godhood, being the son of the Roman Goddess Venus.
Personality[]
A cunning man. An ambitious person that excels in trickery.[2] His gaze is perceptive and it hides a dangerousness and bottomlessness that one cannot neglect.[1] Endowed with a large ambition and frightening intelligence, Caesar is a master of speech and ingenuity. A genius of incitement. He loves women.[2] He also loves Rome, to which he loves the successive Roman emperors in general.[1][2] He loves the world. He has a habit of repeating similar words three times in a row.[2]
Caesar does not regret his past life that was filled with the numerous trickeries he committed so long as he lives, even if those trickeries were what lead him to his death. However, as he deeply regrets having made his beloved Cleopatra cry for he believed that he had treated her cruelly, he thought that “it was troublesome” to unravel plots until he became a Heroic Spirit and Servant.[1][3] His wish for the Holy Grail is to “reunite with Cleopatra and recognize both her and his son Caesarion”, because he would scheme before long, among other things.[1][2] However, he has grown tired of scheming and backstabbing.[3] “Enough of conspiracies. Just let me hug my boy, my boy.”[2]
Caesar claims that the incident in Gaul is what made him mature. The battlefield is not something he could bring himself to love. He realized it was human nature to love the ideals of peace and tranquility. In regards to his feelings about Gaul, he states that it wasn't a bad place in comparison to the bloody scheming of Rome, claiming that the affairs of the battlefield might be a little more preferable for him.[4]

Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Second Singularity: Septem[]
Caesar is summoned by Lev Lainur Flauros as one of the emperors of the United Roman Empire. He leads a group of soldiers in Gallia (Gaul). Caesar later challenges Ritsuka, Mash and Nero Claudius, who have come to defeat him, encouraging his soldiers to retreat as he does so. He is defeated by them, but, being impressed by Nero, tells them that the Holy Grail of the Singularity is in the capital of the United Roman Empire. Before fading away, he also hints at the leader of the United Empire, saying that he would be curious about how Nero would react when she meets him.
Do Moon Goddesses Dream of Dango?[]
Encountering the travelling group of Martha, Georgios, Sasaki Kojirou, Caesar convinces them to give him half of their dumplings to him. Later, he eats the dumplings with Caligula when Ritsuka, Mash, and Artemis arrive, demanding they return the dumplings. After feeling insulted that Caligula constantly compares him to round things, Caesar asks the group if they’re here for the dumplings, and tries and fails to convince them he made the dumplings. Then, after failing to convince the group that he’s Nero, Caesar says that he took the dumplings because he sensed an evil plot involving them. He then continues that he’ll give the group back the dumplings, saying that they’ll sell the dumplings at triple their price, and that he’ll take their earnings but pay them double the worth of the dumplings. However, his business pitch is rejected by the group, so he ends up fighting them with Caligula. After being defeated by the group, he becomes shocked when he sees Altera coming out of the bag of dumplings, wondering how she got in the bag. Caesar then joins the group in fighting Altera. After she is defeated, he rejects yet appreciates Ritsuka’s offer for him to join the Moon Festival at Chaldea. Before disappearing, he gives Ritsuka and Mash a warning that the real culprit of the dumplings theft has still not been found.
Miss Almost Weekly Santa Alter[]
Julius Caesar travels to Darius III‘s palace, where he is happily mistaken for Santa Claus by Darius. Caesar however had no presents to give since he wasn’t the real Santa, so he took Darius’ possessions. He decided then to use Darius’ belongings as presents, even having Phantom of the Opera sign off as the buyer. Then due to being unable to bear Phantom’s crying when he couldn’t give him what he truly wanted, Caesar leaves and eventually found himself in France.
In France he encountered Chevalier d’Eon, who told him they wished to sell their old possessions. Using the funds he retrieved from Darius, Caesar bought all of d’Eon’s old possessions, including a French Royal family treasure. d’Eon begs him to return it, and he sold it back to them for ten times the price. Then, after witnessing Marie Antoinette reprimanding d’Eon, Caesar leaves and eventually encountered Jing Ke.
Confronting Jing Ke as she plots to assassinate Qin Shi Huang, Caesar persuaded her to lend him her daggers. As well, he is mistaken for Santa Claus by Martha and Ushiwakamaru as Santa Claus. He has both them and Jing Ke sign a contract that forces them to buy expensive presents with their own money. However, when he discovered they don’t have enough money, he confiscated all of their belongings.
Later, Caesar encountered Jack the Ripper and Nursery Rhyme, who mistake him for Santa Claus. However, he told them he wasn’t the real Santa and for them to wait patiently for the real Santa to arrive. Before leaving though, Caesar told them be good girls and to wait patiently until then and that he’ll try to do something for them next year if they can’t do that.
Eventually Caesar is confronted by Ritsuka and Santa Alter after they heard about another Santa repeatedly from others. Greeting her to the snowy field that will stage their showdown, he reveals he was the fake Santa, and tells of his past deeds as Santa while being chastised by Ritsuka. However, before he could tell everything, Santa Alter interrupts him, tired of his talking. Caesar calls himself a victim for being mistaken as Santa Claus wherever he went, but says he had fun playing Santa despite having no choice. After asking why everyone thinks he’s Santa, he is challenged to combat by Santa Alter. Accepting her challenge, he exclaims he was getting tired of being mistaken for Santa and having to run away. He then reveals that he’s bored since Nero, Caligula, and Cleopatra are ignoring him before fighting Santa Alter. He is defeated, but he escapes before Santa Alter can finish him off as bids her and Ritsuka farewell.
Valentine Event: Chocolate Lady's Commotion[]
Following their battle with each other, Ritsuka and the others notice Caesar eating chocolate. EMIYA suspects the Choco-Servants are another scheme of his, but Caesar considers himself a pawn of the mastermind. He doesn't mind though since chocolate is delicious. He then reveals the mastermind is a recent Servant, whom he and William Shakespeare describe as a villain. He tells Ritsuka to chase after them but prompts EMIYA and Diarmuid Ua Duibhne to fight with him against Ritsuka after Ritsuka told him to stop eating chocolate. Afterward, EMIYA takes Caesar on a marathon run to fix his overweight body, with Diarmuid following.
Da Vinci and The Seven Counterfeit Heroic Spirits[]
Caesar and Paracelsus von Hohenheim, hearing about the counterfeits, secretly rayshift to the Singularity ahead of Ritsuka's party. Caesar planned to use Paracelsus as bait. He also had a scheme where he'd tell the customer he was offering the real Mona Lisas, then buy all the Craft Essences from Leonardo da Vinci. As long he has the real ones with him, the customers would be willing to pay full price.
When Ritsuka's party arrives and encounters the pair, Da Vinci orders the group to attack them, not believing in their claims of innocence. After being defeated, Caesar and Paracelsus reassert they are innocent. Caesar explains his original scheme and says distributing the counterfeits goes against his principle as a businessman. He then tells the group there is a counterfeiting operation in town run by a Servant.
Halloween Event: Halloween Comeback! Super Ultra ☆ Giant Pumpkin Village[]
Caesar rayshifts into the Singularity and reunites with Cleopatra. Cleopatra, however, faints upon seeing his obese body, which differs from what she remembers. Caesar decides to stay and celebrate Halloween, wondering who he should trick. Mash tells him he should stay away from Cleopatra until her emotional scars heal.
Final Singularity: Solomon[]
Caesar is amongst the "Septem" Singularity Servants to aid Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillars.[6]
Event: Oni Pagoda Festival[]
Ritsuka's party encounters Caesar on the 70th floor of the Oni Pagoda. He changes Tomoe Gozen's perception of him based on what the others told her by claiming that their warnings were actually about his voracious appetite. Ritsuka, fortunately, gets her to realize Caesar's deception. Caesar then claims the tower is his property and says the group is trespassing for entering without permission. Calling himself a lawyer, he expects the group to pay the fine. Cleopatra then arrives, introducing herself as Caesar's secretary. Tomoe recalls that Shuten told them to climb the tower, and wonders if that counts as an invitation. But Caesar recalls hearing nothing of the sort and says all audio recordings are inadmissible. He then tries to trick the group into paying him for damages and trespassing of 70 floors. He confesses he needs the money after depleting his funds from too many gourmet tours and purchasing houses to have one-night stands with beautiful women. Ritsuka's party see through his deception and proceed to defeat him and Cleopatra. Since they're in Japan, Caesar decides he and Cleopatra will go out for sushi. He asks Cleopatra to foot the bill, promising to pay her back somehow. Cleopatra agrees to pay somehow and leaves with Caesar.
Interlude[]
Nostalgic Merits[]
Caesar goes to a battlefield in Rome with Ritsuka and Mash in order to escape from the tainted feeling he got from his constant schemes in life. Remnants of the United Roman Army then appear and attack the group. After being defeated, the United Roman soldiers retreat, but Caesar goes after them with Ritsuka and Mash following. Arriving at a fortress, the group encounters another Caesar that is a manifestation of Caesar's past escapism. After defeating the other Caesar, the group returns to Chaldea with Caesar having become stronger.
Abilities[]
Having become a Heroic Spirit, Caesar's materialized body retains his superior intellect that brought him victory in many battlefields, expressed by his possession of a high rank in the Tactics Skill.[1][2] He excels in trickery, possessing a frightening intelligence. In fact, his ingenuity and military exploits is expressed as his Tactics Skill, having lead his troops to victory in many battles while alive.[1] As of his animation update, he is shown summoning a small group of Roman Soldiers to attack his enemies.
Caesar is a genius at Incitement, displaying it in an extremely powerful manner.[2] They are the acquisition of words and gestures to lead the citizens and the masses. Especially, when employed against an individual, it functions as a sort of mental attack.[1][2]
His Charisma is from having the Roman citizens' exuberant support; seeing his success as a general in the Gallic Wars, there's really no need to ask if Caesar is charismatic.[1]
He has a low ranking Divinity since he is descended from the goddess Venus and deified after he died; Caesar has Divine Spirit aptitude even if the rank is low.[1]
And on top of his intelligence, Caesar is an exemplary warrior. Being a member of the Nine Worthies; A select number of legendary men who are deemed as the ultimate role models in chivalric values of the medieval period. Standing right alongside other "Worthies" such as King Arthur and David.[7] But despite his great military prowess, Caesar oddly believes he isn't "best man for the job" when it comes fighting on the front lines.[8]

Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Gaius Julius Caesar was designed by Shima Drill in Fate/Grand Order.[1][2] His scenario writer is Hikaru Sakurai in Fate/Grand Order.[1]
Comment from Illustrator[]
"During the moment when I saw the list of orders document for a Caesar of the Saber-class, I thought that ‘Surely he’s not an Artoriaface!?’ Although it was something I thought of, finding the specification for a big FATSO was something unexpected… It was a shock to me."
"Given that there were plenty of materials related to Rome, including creative works as well, I got to adopt those materials minutely and design Caesar with such. Although, (suppose) if there was a specification for him as a lean handsome man, I wonder when the diet event will come then…? I’m hoping for one!" (Shima Drill)[1]
Shima Drill released a muscular version of Caesar on Twitter on April Fools' Day.
