GeronimoWP (ジェロニモWP, Jeronimo?), Class Name Caster (キャスター, Kyasutā?), is a Caster-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.

Profile[]

Identity[]

Geronimo is a warrior of the ApachesWP, one of the aboriginal people from the North American continent. Originally owner of a carefree name that meant "the one who yawns" in the Apache language, his life completely changed when he was 20 years old. Upon having his wife and children slaughtered by Mexican soldiers, he made a bold speech and carried out a revenge against the Mexican army as a "warrior".[2]

Ever since the panicked Mexican soldiers shouted "Jeronimo!" (St. JeromeWP, a saint who was widely known for having fought like a lion) while referring to him, his name changed to Geronimo.[2]

It was probably in the battle right before the third surrender that his reputation raised the most. Facing a number of soldiers that outnumbered his own forces manyfold, Geronimo attempted to assassinate their commander all by himself and succeeded in doing so. In addition, it has been said that such commander had given instructions to "annihilate the Apaches".[2]

By no means Geronimo was just a savage, cruel person. He was also calm and prudent. Although willing to surrender, he would never throw away his pride. In order to capture Geronimo and the 35 Apaches he lead, the American government mobilized over 5,000 soldiers.[2]

Appearance[]

He is accompanied by a ga'an, a mountain spirit friendly to the Apache people.

Personality[]

An intellectual, he speaks in an extremely indifferent tone of voice. Possessing a lawful way of thinking, he kept a calm position in any situation. He will probably come in contact with the Master in a courteous manner. However, nothing can be done once he is angered for real. He was not called a red demon, feared by all soldiers, just for show.[2]

Relationships[]

Billy the Kid
"Young invader...for someone as skilled as you to die so young."[3]
"A youngster from the winning side of the battle. I bear no ill will against him. I would only do so were he a soldier of the winning side."[4]
Helena Blavatsky
“While I too, am generally an outlaw in the world of magic, I have no idea what is going on with that child.”[4]
Thomas Edison
Paul Bunyan / Super Bunyan

Fate/Grand Order[]

Fifth Singularity: E Pluribus Unum[]

Geronimo is the leader of the Resistance, which was formed in response to the atrocities committed by the Americans and the Celts. The Resistance rescued Rama after Cú Chulainn Alter gravely injured him with Gaé Bolg. Geronimo escaped with Rama thanks to the resistance members holding Cú Chulainn Alter off.[5]

When the U.W.S. rear base is being attacked by the Celts, Geronimo and his forces arrive to help.[6] He later infiltrates Thomas Edison‘s underground prison to rescue Ritsuka's party, having borrowed No Face May King from Robin Hood. Following the sound of Florence Nightingale’s bullets, Geronimo finds the group’s cell and breaks them out. As they escape, Geronimo asks the group to join the Resistance. Nightingale asks if he’s fine with returning to be a failed warrior if the era is corrected. Geronimo answers victory or defeat are merely points in history in the end, but he refuses to let his people’s sacrifices be erased. Nightingale decides to think of him as an ally. Nearing the exit, the group is confronted by Karna. They defeat him and escape.[7]

The group arrives in a deserted town serving as the Resistance’s hideout. Geronimo asks Nightingale to heal Rama, whose heart has been nearly destroyed by Gáe Bolg. It is why he brought the group to the town, having heard about a Servant concentrating on healing. However, Rama cannot be healed unless Gáe Bolg’s curse is removed. Since fighting Cú Chulainn to destroy his spear is near suicidal, the group agrees to find a Servant related to Rama to remove the curse. Rama suggests his wife, Sita, who is imprisoned somewhere. The group then discusses how to deal with the seemingly endless armies of Edison and the Celts. They agree to assassinate Edison and Medb to stop their respective armies from growing. They then leave to recruit Servants to aid them.[8]

During the journey, Geronimo explains how the Western American citizens are forced to work on the mechanized infantry mass production lines. Soon the group comes to Lubbock, where Robin Hood and Billy the Kid (both Resistance members) are being besieged by Celts. After the attack is repelled, Mash gives Robin and Billy the details of their plan. Geronimo suggests they need a Saber and a Lancer to help. Robin confesses he met two problematic Servants who fit the aforementioned classes earlier.[9]

The group arrives at Dallas, where one of the Servants Robin met is located. After defeating some unexpectedly weak Celtic soldiers, they hear a disturbing song that Ritsuka, Mash, and Robin recognize. Entering the town, they meet with Elizabeth Báthory as she continues her singing. They deduce that is why the soldiers were so weak. Mash convinces Elizabeth to join them by saying it will help promote her art.[10]

Passing through a forest, the group enters Alexandria. There they witness Nero Claudius being confronted by Fergus mac Róich, who was sent to kill her. Robin uses No Face May King to ambush him when Nero reveals his presence. The others then arrive to defeat Fergus. Before disappearing, Fergus tells Rama that Sita is being held on Alcatraz Island.[11]

Later at night, Geronimo informs the others that the Celtic stronghold is the White House. Billy wonders they can wait for the Celts and the Americans to destroy each other, but Geronimo says that would be difficult. He also says the chaos of the current situation allows small forces like them to move around freely. He then speculates the Celts won’t emphasize defending their capital, given they value individual strength more.

He then assigns the group into two separate teams; One with Nightingale to rescue Sita and another to infiltrate the White House and assassinate Medb. Mash gives Geronimo a communication device. The next morning, the group split into their respective teams to carry out their missions. Billy asks Geronimo why he would save America. Geronimo answers his people won’t be saved if American isn’t saved. He also likes the idea of America owing him a debt, even if everyone forgets once the era is corrected.[12]

At Washington, Geronimo’s group goes to assassinate Medb during a parade. Sneaking up on her with No Face May King, they isolate her in Nuptiae Domus Aurea. However, Cú Chulainn Alter suddenly appears when Medb calls for him and attacks Nero. Confused by his strength inside the theater, the group learns Medb created him from her wish on the Grail for Cú Chulainn to be a strong and wicked king who’ll stand beside her. The group fights him when Arjuna arrives. Cú Chulainn Alter fights Nero alone while Medb and Arjuna fight the others. Geronimo orders Robin to take the communicator and escape. After he escapes, the others proceed with their battle.[13] Geronimo unleashes Tsago Degi Naleya on Arjuna. Arjuna destroys it with Agni Gandiva, then kills Billy. Geronimo asks Arjuna why he joined the Celts, but Medb replies he can’t answer. Listening to her boasting, Geronimo refutes her belief she is chosen because she has the Grail. He tells her that Ritsuka has already recovered four Grails, so he believes others will continue in his place if he falls here. He then predicts that she’ll die happy, albeit very soon. Medb kills him out of rage.[14]

Final Singularity: Solomon[]

Geronimo is amongst the "E Pluribus Unum" Singularity Servants to aid Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillar.[15]

Event: All the Statesman![]

While Mash and Edison tend to an unconscious Ritsuka, Geronimo scouts ahead and determines they're in North America, though there isn't any technology beyond the 19th century. He returns to the others and reports what he found. The group is then attacked by Wendigos, which they struggle against until Paul Bunyan helps with her giant strength. Afterward, Bunyan walks away as she is unable to hear the group's voices. The group decides to follow after her.

Ritsuka's party eventually runs into Bunyan again, albeit in a more regular size. Edison asks her what she is. Bunyan answers she is a lumberjack who got summoned by someone and ended up alone in the forest. She agrees with Mash's assumption that she is a Servant and Heroic Spirit since she was summoned. Ritsuka notices her magical energy is low and decides to become her Master. Edison asks Bunyan where in North America they are, to which she answers North Dakota. The possibility of remaining lost in the forest concerns Geronimo as they may risk using all their magical energy with the forest teeming with spirits.

As the group treks through the forest in the hopes of reaching civilization, Bunyan says it'd be easier if she had her favorite axe. Her summoner took it away, though, because it was dangerous. She is unable to remember what they're like, only recalling they went far east. Edison and Geronimo then encourage her to build a new version of her favorite axe.

After Bunyan makes her new axe, the group watch as she cuts the forest down. Eventually, nothing is left of the forest but a neatly stacked pile of lumber. Edison finally realizes who Bunyan is, recalling the newspaper stories that essentially depict her as the creator of America. Assuming Bunyan's summoner possesses the Grail, thereby, the one who created the Singularity, Geronimo tries to ask her something. Bunyan interrupts him, however, as she sensed something approaching. A light crashes down, from which Billy the Kid and Altera (calling herself Wyatt Earp) emerge ready to punish the group for illegal deforestation.

After Altera retreats following the fight, Billy reveals he, Altera, and Bunyan were summoned by the same person. That person controls everything from Chicago, which is the same direction Altera went. After Billy disappears, the group makes their way to Chicago.

On their way to Chicago, the group comes across a decrepit house. There, they encounter Jack the Ripper and Nursery Rhyme. They are waiting for their summoner, who went to Chicago. A stampede of rampaging buffalo then hits the house, so the group goes out to take care of them. While eating the buffalo they killed and cooked, the group encounter Altera (now calling herself Buffalo Bill) again. She decides to punish them for killing the endangered buffalo, ignoring Geronimo's statement that the herd was berserk and none of their parts were wasted. After being defeated, she retreats, warning the group not to go any further. Now joined by Jack and Nursery Rhyme, the group continue onwards to Chicago.

Arriving at the Columbian Exposition, Geronimo finds the fair to be the exception that cultural exchange without combat is good. He considers it dripping with the arrogance of privilege and calls it hideous. Altera (now calling herself Davy Crockett) arrives to stop the group from going any further, along with Nikola Tesla. They end up fighting when Edison becomes enraged by Altera calling DC electricity bad civilization. After Tesla disappears, Altera leaves, warning Ritsuka and Bunya they'll encounter their worst nightmare if they go any further.

At the center of the fair, the group finds a poorly constructed Japanese Pavillion. There they encounter a bizarre girl who is introduced as the Nameless Master, one from a parallel Chaldea. She reveals herself as the one who summoned every Servant the group encountered, except for Bunyan. Bunyan is a Phantom born from a joke between North American settlers with no basis in myth or belief in her existence. The Nameless Master allowed her to possess udon dough and hoped to shape her into a powerful welfare Servant for the game's second anniversary. But considering her a useless low-rank Servant, she trapped Bunyan in the Singularity. She then decides to eradicate the group for bringing Bunyan, whom she wanted her to disappear in the forest. Despite them being all high-ranking Servants, the Nameless Master's Servants were underleveled and easily defeated. After he disappears, Geronimo tells Ritsuka not to be sad about it. Instead, they should remember it as saving a soul swallowed up by an evil spirit. The group then heads back home.

Later, as Bunyan expands Chicago to cover much of the globe, Edison and Geronimo investigate the truth behind the Singularity and Bunyan. They were able to determine Edison's Spiritual World Communicator opened the way to the Singularity and Bunyan is its core. But that is when the lab is blown up, presumably killing Edison. Geronimo informs Ritsuka and Mash of what had happened.

The three go to the lab's burning ruins and find the culprit, Goddess Columbia. She admits she killed Edison for getting too close to the truth, that being that the Singularity is a Reality Marble formed from Bunyan's consciousness made stronger thanks to the Grail's power within her. She reveals the Nameless Master meant to seal Bunyan away in her own inner world, only to become trapped as well. The Nameless Master took away Bunyan's axe so Bunyan couldn't destroy the world by redeveloping it to its limit. However, that cycle resumed when she got her axe. Her Reality Marble began to encroach onto Ritsuka's world when she saw their Chaldea thanks to Edison's Spiritual World Communicator, which caused the Servants to act bizarrely. Columbia thus determines Ritsuka's party must stay in Bunyan's world to maintain the balance. The group pushes her back in the ensuing fight. Columbia declares she must seal Bunyan away, considering her too dangerous. Overhearing this, Bunyan decides to end it all and transports everyone to her unconsciousness.

Ritsuka's party finds itself in a stormy environment surrounded by multiplying wendigos. Mash realizes they are the citizens of Chicago transformed by Bunyan's fear and sadness. Geronimo decides to fully unleash his Noble Phantasm to open a path out for the others to escape through, thereby sacrificing himself. Edison stops him, however, having faked his death. He then uses his Noble Phantasm to reveal the truth that Bunyan pursued: the scene of a peaceful city. To maintain this scenery, Edison will continue to use his Noble Phantasm. He then leaves the matter of Bunyan to Ritsuka, suspecting she is at the edge of the city.

The group runs into Columbia. She demands their cooperation in destroying Bunyan's Grail before she becomes registered in the Throne as a Heroic Spirit. While she sympathizes with their desire to save Bunyan, being a fabricated goddess herself, she still decides to kill Bunyan to save the world. Ritsuka's party defeats her, and she tells them Bunyan is deep in the forest. After she disappears, the group head for the forest.

They find Bunyan and convince her that she isn't worthless. They try to remove the Grail from her, but Bunyan loses sense of them as she continues to grow. This threatens the group's existence since anything that Bunyan doesn't sense in her world doesn't exist. Fortunately, Altera arrives and destroys the Grail in Buyan with Teardrop Photon Ray.

However, in exchange for the Grail's destruction, Bunyan is registered in the Throne of Heroes. She returns to Chaldea with the others, and together they eat hamburger steak.

Subspecies Singularity IV: Salem[]

Leonardo da Vinci asks Geronimo to advise Chaldea about the Salem Singularity. Calling the name Salem a curse upon his people and the colonists, Geronimo cautions against immediately going off to rescue the 50, 000 trapped there, unsure if it’s a trap or not. He senses the Demon God that created it is more cautious and villainous than the others. He then asks if there been any updates in the investigation. Da Vinci replies the Singularity expanded to its current size within seconds of manifesting. The Mage’s Association also sent Familiars in, but they lost contact with every one of them.[16]

The next day, Geronimo mentions the U.S. Army tried using Apache helicopters to lower in sensors, but they were all destroyed. He also confirms there is no sign that any of the journalists who snuck past the blockade have returned. Trained animals sent in to investigate also failed to return, and there is no sign of any fauna entering or exiting. Mash soon asks Geronimo what he meant earlier when he said Salem is cursed. He recounts how Salem and its neighboring lands were home to three tragedies. The first was when the colonists brought an epidemic that nearly wiped out the Massachusett tribe in Boston Labor. The second was the war, which was more akin to a massacre, that eliminated the Wampanoag tribe who survived the plague. Geronimo finds it cruelly ironic that the colonists survived the winter thanks to the Wampanoag’s generosity. He also finds it ironic the Massachusett tribe is the state’s namesake, and a national holiday was founded from the previously mentioned events. He then says the third tragedy was the Salem WItch Trials. He confirms he wasn’t chosen to join the expedition into the Singularity, suspecting it’s because his heritage would cause difficulties. While he would like to help, he will not put a friend in danger. He is against the idea of Mash accompany Ritsuka to Salem, believing it would be dangerous. However, he sees Mash taken this into account, and leaves the decision to Ritsuka. After Ritsuka’s party rayshift to Salem, Geronimo wonders if it was a good idea to let Mash go. When Medea reveals the one who accompanied them is an impostor, Geronimo is surprised to learn someone can outwit her.[16]

When Raum transforms into his true self and the Mist surrounding Salem dissipates, Geronimo agrees with Ritsuka’s assertion to not allow the U.S. Army in. He reveals magical energy is being rapidly consumed across the continent, primarily in heavily populated areas. Because this phenomenon ignores the old Bounded Fields, Geronimo believes the very basis of magecraft itself is becoming fractured. He warns that Da Vinci’s decision to take full responsibility for whatever happens on behalf of Chaldea could result in the dismantling of Chaldea. However, he knows they have no alternative but to ask for everyone related to magecraft for helping in resolving the phenenom.[17]

Moonlight | Lost Room[]

When Ritsuka was dreaming in the Lostroom, he'd witnesses Galahad defeating Geronimo, Kiyohime and David.

Abilities[]

Although a magus, he has no connections to the Mage's Association and, rather, is closer to a Spellcaster. With his skill Shamanism, he can form contracts to borrow the powers of various spirits. With his magecraft, he can both create and destroy bounded fields, and is also capable of hypnosis via the use of cigarettes. He comments that despite his bounded fields being relatively crude in design, they are still high power, and can surpass bounded fields that are otherwise more intricately designed. Despite being summoned as Caster, Geronimo boasts a martial story improper for a Caster. His Personal Skill, Bloody Devil provides great bonuses to close-range combat power, since he possesses proficiency with the bow, spear and knife.[2]

It has been said that he - who not only was an excellent warrior, but also burned with desire for vengeance more than anything else - fought to the bitter end against the Mexican soldiers with a single knife, even after his spear broke and his arrows ran out, while he became red with his own and the enemy's blood.[2]
