Gilgamesh (ギルガメッシュ, Girugamesshu?), Class Name Stray Ruler (逸れのルーラー, Hagure no Rūrā?), is the Ruler-class Stray Servant summoned in the Waxing Moon Ritual of Fate/Samurai Remnant.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Going under the name Boss (若旦那, Wakadanna?, "young master"), Gilgamesh is the proprietor of Babiloni-ya (巴比倫弐屋?), a textile shop that has opened recently in Edo. He is sometimes surrounded by children who visit his store.[1] Potentially due to having collected a large number of unique and unusual items and his own unique personality, many customers are attracted to his shop.[2]
Appearance[]
As the shopkeeper of Babiloni-ya, Gilgamesh foregoes his normal armor in favor of a golden kimono. In battle he wears new gold and red armor whose top half resembles his Archer armor while the bottom half consists of Chinese and Japanese design elements.
Personality[]
A Stray Servant and arbiter of the Waxing Moon Ritual, Proprietor of the textile wholesaler, Babyloni-ya, he casually alludes to his regal station without the slightest slip in his arrogant attitude. He has no interest whatsoever in pursuing the Waxing Moon, preferring instead to devote his time to collecting rare items and making candy. Perhaps this is why so many children in Asakusa have grown so fond of him. After Iori and Yamato Takeru rescued one of those cherished children, he praised their efforts and enlisted them as royal servants.[3]
Role[]
Fate/Samurai Remnant[]
As soon as he was summoned, Gilgamesh immediately figured out the worth of the Waxing Moon Ritual and lost all interest. Instead of doing his job as Ruler, he chose to set up a shop instead. He takes an interest in Miyamoto Iori and Saber.[4]
Showing interest in Iori’s skill penchant for wood carving, he ordered a statue made in his own likeness. It seems that he would be willing to purchase such a statue.[3]
When many servants were dominated by a powerful spell, he maintains his sanity and composure and is not brought under Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro's ritual. And even though he did not show up for the turmoil at Kanagawa Port in person, he was aware of what had occurred and offered Iori advice on how to to tackle the predicament.[3]
After completing all of his digressions, Gilgamesh becomes available as an optional boss fight. He also invites Saber and Iori to join him as his vassals and conquer the world. This results in the game's joke ending.[5][6][7]
Keian Command Championship[]
In the first DLC, Gilgamesh notices the summoning of the Divine Spirit Ibuki-douji as a Stray Servant. Recognizing her sheer power and the threat she posed to Edo, Gilgamesh sealed her away and then created a ritual that would drain her of her Magical Energy until she disappeared. He called this ritual the Keian Command Championship and ran it under the guise of a tournament that Masters and Servants competed in, with a wish-granter as the prize. There were probably other methods he could have used to seal Ibuki-douji, but he chose this one because he found it the most entertaining.[3]
After Ibuki-douji is unsealed, he Boss consents to allow her to participant in the tournament, eventually fighting alongside Ibuki-douji after she threatens to stop being well behaved. After Ibuki-douji is defeated, Gilgamesh grants the winner the promised wish-granting device, explaining that it lost a chunk of its power due to Ibuki-douji's actions.[8]
Other appearances[]
Ruler Gilgamesh is the shopkeeper for the Fate/Samurai Remnant collaboration event in Fate/Grand Order. He does not appear in the event story itself, his role as arbitrator of the Waxing Moon Ritual being taken by Ashoka instead.
Abilities[]
Gilgamesh is a Stray Servant manifested as a Ruler to arbitrate the Waxing Moon Ritual. Despite being Masterless, his Magical Energy signature is so great that Yamato Takeru can tell that he is an exceptional Heroic Spirit.[5] Miyamoto Iori claims that even though he is not at full power due to being a Rogue, his strength seems limitless.[7]
Gilgamesh is wary of Ibuki-douji, and is willing to go along with her request to fight alongside her rather than get her upset. Due to the threat posed by Ibuki, Gilgamesh was forced to rely on Yamata-no-Orochi's legend where his heads were cut off after being intoxicated to seal Ibuki away. He put her to sleep with a stiff golden booze, and then crafted the Keian Command Championship as a means to dry up her Magical Energy.[8]
He shows the ability to communicate from long range, claiming that "Communicating from the Heavens is but child's play for one such as I".[8] However, it's not specified if this is a Noble Phantasm or an ability he possesses in the Ruler Class.
Combat[]
Gilgamesh is so powerful he can match Yamato Takeru and Miyamoto Iori without fighting seriously. Excited by their efforts, he agrees to show them a fraction of his power. To his surprise, their combined efforts eventually defeat him.[7]
Hieda-no-Are and Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro warn Ibuki-douji that Gilgamesh would surely give her an ardous fight. Ibuki agrees that fighting him would be pointless if they weren't both going full-throttle. Ibuki defeats him eventually.[8]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Magic Resistance (A Rank): While comparatively much stronger than when he is summoned as an Archer, it still offers little benefit because he has strategies to counter every contingencies.
- Independent Action (EX Rank): As a Ruler and the Observer of the Ritual, he does not have a Master and is free to act as he pleases.
Personal Skills[]
Noble Phantasm[]
Gilgamesh's main Noble Phantasm is Gate of Babylon.
It is also implied that he has access to Sha Naqba Imuru. Nothing escapes Gilgamesh's clairvoyant gaze, not even the Stray Servants going mad and fighting Yamato Takeru.[6]
Gameplay[]
Gilgamesh's one and only Affinity Technique is Gate of Babylon. Gilgamesh doesn't have a gameplay Noble Phantasm, and he will refuse to use one when the button to activate it is pressed.
Development[]
Ruler was designed by Mineji Sakamoto and illustrated by Rei Wataru in Fate/Samurai Remnant.[1] His scenario writer is Kinoko Nasu.[4]
Gilgamesh was made playable in the first DLC. He wasn't initially planned to be playable, and was made so because of fan reaction to him in the base game.[9]
