Goto Saiki (斎木業人?) is a mysterious man present in the Tohno mansion in the Tsukihime Remake series, representing the Tohno branch families.
Profile[]
Background[]
He is a surviving member of the Saiki clan of half-Oni exterminated by Kiri Nanaya.
Appearance[]
He is a tall man whose face is almost completely covered in black bandages. What little skin is visible underneath his bandages is very dark, and appears to be covered in scars. He wears a purple dress shirt and pants with a black vest, gloves, and dress shoes. His necktie has a chain-link pattern on it.
Personality[]
Goto considers Shiki to be a dropout and outcast, and bluntly states that he is not a genuine member of the Tohno family to his face shortly after meeting him for the first time.[2] He is, however, happy to see him return to the Tohno mansion, and respects Shiki for defending his adoptive father’s honor despite being disowned. He prefers to be addressed by his surname only, claiming his given name is not worthy of recognition. He also refers to the Tohno mansion as if it were his own home, which strikes Shiki as highly unusual.[3]
Shiki surmises than him and Makihisa Tohno were on bad terms before the latter's death.[3] He seems to have some sort of ulterior motivations regarding Akiha, and is willing to kill Shiki for trespassing on Makihisa’s study.
Role[]
Tsukihime[]
He is present at the Tohno mansion as a representative of the Tohnos' relatives. When questioned by Shiki as to why he is lingering in the mansion after his official business has been completed, he claims there is nothing unusual about him being present in the house.[3]
Arcueid Route[]
In the event that Shiki looks through Makihisa’s notes on the Tohno’s inhuman blood, Goto kills him with a blade. After doing so, he regrets that Shiki "had to be disposed of" and was not able to spur on Akiha more.[4]
Abilities[]
While as a Saiki, he is presumably a half-Oni, it is unknown if he has any abilities from his nonhuman blood.
In a possible Bad End, he was able to sneak up on Shiki Tohno unnoticed and kill him with a knife.[4]
Development[]
The Saiki family was first mentioned in the Kagetsu Tohya side story Red Demon God, where the head of the family was killed by Kiri Nanaya.
Creation and Conception[]
Takashi Takeuchi compares his design to that of a horror movie killer, and describes him as “way too untrustworthy”. Making good faces for his sprites was very easy.[1]
Like Dr. Arach, Goto was intended to be an unsettling "foreign substance" in the Tohno mansion. He was inspired by Seishi YokomizoWP's urban fantasy novels.[5]
