For the highest law of magi, see Grand Order.

Quest for the Holy Grail "Grand Order" (聖杯探索(グランドオーダー), Seihai Tansaku(Gurando Ōdā)?), named after the highest law of magi due to their critical importance, are quests performed by the Chaldea Security Organization in order to reverse the eradication of mankind during the events of Fate/Grand Order.

Origin

Human Order Incineration Incident

The Human Order Incineration Incident (人理焼却事件, Jinri Shōkyaku Jiken?) is the first crisis Chaldea faces, the destruction of humanity and the world by Goetia and the Demon Gods in an attempt to create a new world where death does not exist.

Remnant Order

The Remnant Order (レムナントオーダー?) is the mission to solve what was left behind after the destruction of Goetia, the remaining four Demon Gods and the Subspecies Singularities they bring forth.[1]

Human Order Revision

The Human Order Revision (人理再編, Jinri Saihen?) is the second crisis faced by Chaldea. It is the whitening of the world enacted by the Alien God and the Crypters, erasing the current Human Order to supplant it with one of the seven Lostbelts.

Terms

Singularity

A Singularity (特異点, Tokuiten?) is an unobservable region that does not exist within Chaldea's recorded history. It's as if a hole has opened up within the timeline, a hole that is separate from the regular temporal axis.[2]

Certain Singularities have their own individual circumstances and mechanisms, however the Goetia-style Singularities involved in the Human Order Incineration Incident follow a general pattern and possess common characteristics. They are sustained by a Goetia-manufactured Holy Grail, which is given to a certain individual within a key historical time period, typically someone who will use it to cause major disruption to history and destabilize the Human Order Foundations; with the Quantum Time-Locks destroyed, the Greater History of Man falls apart and the future is reduced to a mass of arbitrary possibilities. When this is insufficient, a Demon God host may further manipulate individuals and events in order to achieve this end or even intervene by using the Grail itself.[3][4] Left unchecked, the era in which the Singularity manifests in will be destroyed completely under the strain of the impossible events that the Singularity forces into existence, causing the end of history itself.

The power of the Grails and the circumstances within the Singularities allow for the summoning of Servants and their continued existence in the world, even without a Master. Various Servants are summoned to the era under these conditions without individuals performing a summoning ceremony. The Servants often play a key role in bringing about the disruption to history, as well as resolving it. It is theorized that these Master-less servants are summoned by the Grail itself as a reaction to its abuse- in effect, it acts as a distorted Holy Grail War in which the Grail already has an owner.[3][4][5][6][7]

The seven primary Singularities involved in the Human Order Incineration Incident have a Human Order Foundation Value associated with them.

The emergence of large Singularities cause disturbances and fluctuations in time which spread out through history like a wave, and can cause other, smaller Singularities to emerge at other points in time.[8] Left unattended to, these Singularities can grow and become a threat in their own right. Sometimes these small Singularities disappear on their own, leaving behind Holy Grails formed from the condensed magical energy of the Singularity.

When the Grail empowering a Singularity is recovered or eliminated and the threats it produced are neutralized, the timeline will begin to restore itself and the Singularity will eventually disperse. However, lingering temporal anomalies such as the presence of Phantasmal Species can compromise the recovery process and even run the risk of the Singularity reconstituting itself.

There are also existences known as Mobile Singularities (移動特異点, Idou Tokuiten?) which cause a similar distortion, though usually on a smaller scale. These include Sliders such as the female Miyamoto Musashi.[9]

Because of humanity's destruction in 2015, due to the collapse of the Human Order Foundation, Chaldea is forced to travel to Singularities in the past in order to fix the irregularities of history caused by various Holy Grails. The 'Grand Order' is a "name for those who would rise up against human history for the sake of humanity, and combat fate itself."[10]

Lostbelt

As opposed to the Greater History of Man, the history of 'winners' born from correct choices and proper prosperities leading to the "present", the history of 'losers' born from the wrong choices and mistaken prosperity is cut off. Considered "unnecessary" and cut off from becoming even parallel worlds, this history which has hit a dead end is known as a Lostbelt (異聞帯(ロストベルト), Ibuntai(Rosutoberuto)?, lit. "Belt of Strange Tales").[11][12]

It is unknown how exactly that the timelines selected by the Fantasy Trees managed to exist until the present day, as they would have ceased to have exist entirely within a century of being designated for culling due to Quantum Time-Locks. Ophelia Phamrsolone proposes the theory that the specific timelines that we see within the Alien God's Lostbelts are actually virtually simulated from their point of culling unto present day using the resources within the Tree; and then iterated without, unto the Tree's environs, the surrounding environment. This is abstractly akin to Emiya Shirou's Projections — rendering into the real world the product of a simulated history,[13] then imposing that simulated history over the Greater History of Man in the hopes of replacing it with the Lostbelt's version of history. The events of the Shimousa Singularity and the Heian-kyō Lostbelt suggest that a Singularity becomes a Lostbelt after a Fantasy Tree Seed is planted within it and grows into a full Fantasy Tree. The Fantasy Tree then selects a Lostbelt King, a powerful figure who is given the ability to direct the Tree's growth and spread, making the Lostbelt more stable and expanding its scope. The Fantasy Tree also begins gathering energy, which is used to prepare for the descent of the Alien God.

Destroying the Fantasy Tree sustaining the Lostbelt will allow the culling process to resume, and a Holy Grail formed from the Fantasy Tree's remains can be collected. A Lostbelt without its Fantasy Tree can last no more than a few months (from its inhabitants' perspective- an outside observer will see it vanishing immediately) before the culling process is completed, at which point the Lostbelt and all of its surviving inhabitants will be erased from reality as if they never existed.

Following the attack on Chaldea in 2017, the bleaching of the world and the declaration of rebellion against the Greater History of Man, with the threat of a regression into the Age of Gods and the recreation of the world, the survivors are forced to use an experimental method of navigating through imaginary number space, through the Lostbelts, in order to resolve the incident.[11][12]

MERKQTg

World map showing the locations of the Lostbelts on the planet's surface

After all of the Lostbelts have been established, the Crypters seek to expand the "domain" of their own Lostbelts, which will eventually clash with the other Lostbelts. The one that is built by greater Human Foundation will end up overtaking the weaker one and use it as "nutrients". This process will allegedly continue, until only one Lostbelt is remaining.[14]

Koyanskaya‎ describes the Greater History of Man as "easy mode" and the Lostbelts as "hard mode",[11] though the veracity of her statement has yet to be fully determined.

Similar to the Human Order Foundation Values associated with the Singularities, the Lostbelts have an associated value known as a Lost Depth (異聞深度, Ibun Shindo?).[12] Lost Depth is a rank to display how much the Human Order in a Lostbelt has deviated from that of the Greater History of Man.[15]

Procedure

Utilizing Rayshift, the souls of selected subjects are projected into the past, forming Spiriton avatars with the capacity to interfere with corrupted versions of historical events. By the efforts of time-travelling agents, anomalous temporal singularities may be eliminated such that the timeline can restore itself to its normal state.

The exact procedure of the Grand Order differs depending on the nature of the Singularity, however there are two general goals; the correction or elimination of the distortions resulting from or responsible for the Singularity, and the retrieval or destruction of the Grail supporting the Singularity.

The words of Kirei Kotomine suggest that rayshifting could have been used against the forces of the Lostbelts, with Chaldea being attacked and rendered inoperable in order to eliminate the threat. Unable to reach the Lostbelts by rayshifting due to their taking place in the equivalent of the present day, the survivors were forced to use a method of diving through Imaginary Number Space, using the Shadow Border's Paper Moon system.[11] Once there, the Grand Order's goals are twofold: defeat the Lostbelt King that controls the Lostbelt's Fantasy Tree (and the Crypter that oversees its growth), and then destroy the Fantasy Tree itself to allow the Lostbelt to be culled.

Singularities

The initial Singularity detected by Chaldea, believed to be the cause of humanity's future extinction, was located in Fuyuki, Japan in 2004 AD and codenamed Singularity F. The mission to explore and eliminate the Singularity was designated the First Order (ファーストオーダー, Fāsuto Ōdā?).[5][16]

Following the successful elimination of Singularity F and the revelation concerning the incineration of the future, seven even larger Singularities were detected in the past. As Chaldea embarked on the mission of eliminating these Singularities to return history to its rightful course and restore the future, the name 'First Order' was abandoned for 'Grand Order' - a mission named after the highest law of magi, in view of its importance.[5][16]

During the course of this mission, multiple smaller Singularities emerged and were resolved. When the seven major Singularities were eliminated, an attack on Chaldea led to the final battle against Goetia, the Beast posing as the King of Magecraft, and the 72 Demon Gods which comprised it, in its temple - a Singularity thought to be the final one, the conclusion of which brought an end to the Human Order Incineration Incident (人理焼却事件, Jinri Shōkyaku Jiken?).[17][18]

Lostbelts

During the interrogation of Chaldea's staff and the arrival of the new director Goldolf Musik, Chaldea was attacked by the OprichnikWP and Anastasia, a Servant from the Lostbelts. Being weakened and with the betrayal of Koyanskaya and Kirei Kotomine, the survivors were forced to flee the facility, fast being rendered inoperable and uninhabitable. Before Chaldeas was fully sealed, it was noted that no celestial bodies other than the Earth were visible.[11][12]

As the survivors escaped in the Shadow Border, meteor-like objects descended from the sky and the world was frozen over. A broadcast on frequencies normally used by Chaldea then began, from Kirschtaria Wodime, a member of Chaldea's A-Team. He declared a rebellion against the Greater History of Man, deeming that their growth was not correct, and that the World would be filled with mysteries beyond the reach of Man and be regressed into the Age of Gods. He further declared that gods would descend from distant skies for this purpose and through seven seeds, leaders would be selected to remake the planet, with those from the Greater History of Man not permitted to participate or observe, frozen and brought to an end as of 2017. Calling himself the representative of the seven Crypters, he ended by announcing to the survivors of Chaldea that the history of the planet would be succeeded by them.[11][12]

Unable to rayshift with the loss of Chaldea, the survivors were forced to use an experimental method to navigate through imaginary number space and the Lostbelts, in order to resolve the incident connected to the Filtering Outsider Phenomenon (濾過異分子現象, Roka Ibunshi Genshō?, localized as "Felling Theoretical Phenomenon").[11][12]

English Lostbelt

Main article: English Lostbelt

The English Lostbelt, alternatively the British Lostbelt and Lostbelt No. 6 (ロストベルト No. 6?), is the sixth of the seven known Lostbelts. Originating in 0500 AD, its Lost Depth is EX and it's associated Crypter is Beryl Gut.[12][20]

The events of Chaldea's visit to this Lostbelt will be covered in the sixth chapter of Cosmos in the Lostbelt; Fairy Round Table Domain: Avalon le Fay (妖精円卓領域 アヴァロン・ル・フェ, Yōsei Entaku Ryōiki Avaron ru Fe?, localized as "■■ Round Table Domain ■■■■■■■■■"), alternatively The Time the Star is Born (星の生まれる刻?, localized as "The Moment a Planet Is Born").[12]

The Lostbelt is described as absolute hell for humans, where the number of Phantasmal Species far exceed those of humans. According to Kirschtaria, its nature doesn't "fit" the planet, hence its Lost Depth is EX. It also contains a being equal to the Alien God capable of destroying the planet if allowed to mature. Kirschtaria thus ordered its Fantasy Tree, Seyfert, to be destroyed. Beryl followed these orders by convincing the Lostbelt King to incinerate Seyfert with Rhongomyniad. The Lostbelt was left to crumble, but its destruction was slowed by the Holy Spear. This is the wall of light observed by Chaldea.

Beryl is now a target by the Lostbelt King who fires Rhongomyniad wherever he is, even in other Lostbelts. The King is an enemy of Alien God, for not only destroying Seyfert, but also for attempting to destroy Olympus to prevent the Alien God's descent. Beryl is also considered an enemy now. He has recently returned to the Lostbelt with Tamamo Vitch, when the Atlantic Lostbelt collapsed. Muramasa is currently in the Lostbelt under the Alien God's orders to investigate Rhongomyniad.

South American Lostbelt

The South American Lostbelt, alternatively Lostbelt No. 7 (ロストベルト No. 7?), is the seventh of the seven known Lostbelts. Originating in ???? BC, it's Lost Depth is A++ and it's associated Crypter is Daybit Sem Void.[12][20]

The events of Chaldea's visit to this Lostbelt will be covered in the seventh chapter of Cosmos in the Lostbelt; ■■Forest ■■■■■■■■■■ (■■樹海■■ ■■■・■■■■■?, localized as "■■Sea of Trees■■■■■・■■■■■), alternatively ■■■■■■■■.[12]

Setting

The seventh Lostbelt where Daybit is residing is located somewhere in South America and diverged sometime during the B.C. era. The inner workings of Daybit's Lostbelt are still a secret, but it is close to collapse because its version of humanity is nearly extinct. There is somehow no sign of a Fantasy Tree being detected.

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Order

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Order, also known as Ogawa Heim, refers to an event, part of a collaboration between Fate/Grand Order and Kara no Kyoukai, which occurred during the Human Order Incineration Incident. It involved a distortion which would have become a Singularity if left unchecked, located in Mifune City, and based around the Ogawa Apartment Complex.[24]

Setting

Map kara no kyoukai mansion

The distortion occurred in Mifune City near and within the Ogawa Apartment. After Solomon recovered it from the incinerated history, he ordered Edmond Dántes to turn the distortion into a Singularity, and bestowed upon him a system of curses to serve as the core. Additionally, Solomon summoned Mephistopheles to assist him, and separated the demon's good self from his evil self. However, Edmond, not sharing Solomon's goals, decided to transform the distortion into an eternal hell to fuel his need for vengeance. He ordered Mephistopheles to infiltrate Chaldea and convince Servants to come to the apartment. After the Servants rayshifted to Ogawa, their personalities were soon altered by the building's bizarre nature. Moreover, the resentment that the Servants felt attracted spirits of the dead to the apartment. In turn, the spirits were drawn into the core of the would-be Singularity with their resentment strengthening it. Before the arrival of Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight, Shiki Ryougi, who had survived the Incineration of Humanity by placing her consciousness into a dreamlike state before her body was destroyed, was summoned into the distortion due to her connection to the apartment.

History

Ritsuka and Mash arrive the Ogawa Apartment Complex, where Ritsuka's Servants are located after they rayshifted. They notice a Servant fighting ghotsts, so they go to help her. But the ghosts are all destroyed by the time they get there. The Servant fights the pair until Romani Archaman informs them she has possesses the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. The Servant then apologizes for her actions and starts to leaves. When Ritsuka stops her, she declares she's going to destroy the apartment to stop the undead within from spreading out to the neighborhood. The undead are running rampant due to the Servants living there. The Servant explains Pseudo-Servant, who was possiblity into the distortion due to her connection with the apartment. She then introduces herself as Shiki Ryougi, and agrees to help the pair. The group then enter the apartment.[25]

Entering the apartment, the group investigate the first room. It is oddly cold despite the thermometer showing regular temperature. There they encounter Musashibou Benkei, who attacks them for abandoning a respectable way of life. After defeating him, Romani assures Benkei, as a Servant of Chaldea, will eventually return there. Shiki reveals what happened to him happened to all of Ritsuka's Servants.[26]

Continuing their investigation, Shiki explains the apartment was designed to collect the deaths of it residents. They're reborn when morning comes and die when night falls in an endless loop. Shiki then unlocks Room 102, and enters with the others. They are greeted by Mephistopheles, who claims he lured Ritsuka's Servants to the apartment. He then attacks the group, but they defeat him. He then disappears telling them to solve the mystery of the apartment. However, he reappears, and explains the one killed was his evil self. He reveals he was summoned into the apartment by Solomon. Solomon then proceed to split him into his evil and good selves. His evil self infilitrated Chaldea, and convinced the Servant to come to the apartment. He then escaped from Solomon's contract, and waited for the group to arrive. Now joined by Mephistopheles, the group continue their investigation.[27]

Continuing to explore the apartment, Shiki realizes the apartment is now collecting stuff unrelated to its original design and turn them evil. Henry Jekyll then appears, and explains he is the manager of the corridor. He advises the group to stay on the first floor a little longer, and invites them to stay in his room. When they reject his invitation, he trurns into Mr. Hyde, and fights them. After returning to normal with his defeat, Jekyll claims he and Hyde were manipulated. He warns Ritsuka not to trust Mephistopheles, and prepares to hand them the key to the next floor. However, he changes back into Hyde and attacks Ritsuka. Shiki blocks him, and takes the key. She deduces he was always Hyde, and he only pretended to possess dual personalities. After Hyde disappears, Mephistopheles reveals Jekyll mutated upon his arrival at the apartment until his main personality vanished. He explains the Servants are being affected by the apartment's residual resentments, and their alignment changed as a result. The group then move to the second floor.[28]

Entering a room on the second floor, the group encounters Elizabeth Bathory. She threatens to sever Ritsuka's hands and feet, and burn their internal organs before attacking the group. After being defeated, Elizabeth complains of her misery and humiliation before finally disappearing. The group then continue their investigation after receiving a transmission from Da Vinci regading Elizabeth's return to Chaldea.[29]

Investigating a room on the third floor, the group encounters Boudica. She acts like her usual self until Mash says they'll bring her back to Chaldea. She turns aggressive, and refuses to return to Chaldea. She states she forgot her hatred from the Romans by distracting herself with saving humanity. After she disappears following the ensuing fight, the group continue their investigation.[30]

Nearly complete with their investigation of fourth floor, the group are confronted by Artoria Alter. She warns them to leave as the floor above is filled with vengeful ghosts. The group accuse her of being the mastermind behind the incident. Artoria Alter then removes her armor because of Mash and Mephistopheles' misconceptions about her appearance. She agrees to forgive their disrespect if they can survive and prove their bravery to her. After being defeated, She allows them to pass after realizing Shiki has the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. She explains she has been weeding out those who can't the handle the grudges of the apartment. She reveals she came to the apartment of her own accord. She also reveals Solomon attempted to convert the apartment into a Singularity after recovering it from the incinerated history. This plan failed however as Solomon sent the wrong person to do the job, which transformed the apartment into a tower that attracts and imprisons Servants to convert them into demons. Artoria Alter warns the apartment will someday become the Singularity called "Hell", though it has no bearing on the Incineration of Humanity. Deciding to rescue the remaining Servants, the group continue their investigation.[30]

Later, Ritsuka has the group investigate outside. After communations with Chaldea are cut, a Servant surrounded by darknessappears before them. He reveals the ghosts are souls who were unrewarded in life, and their regrets kept them from moving to the afterlife. The Servant states the ghost need peace, so if Hell denies them, he'll create a new Hell with the apartment. He warns the group not to stand in his way and leaves. The group are then suddenly confronted by a ghost differing from the others. Mephistopheles warns it is reaching a state near that of Primate Murder. However, Shiki reveals it isn't a Monster of Gaia, rather it's a defective Monster of Alya. Her appearance and personality then changes in response the ghost's nature. After destroying the ghost, she returns to normal after tripping over a tree root. She mistakes the victory as Ritsuka and Mash's, having no memory of it. Fou then gives a key to her that he found.[31]

Back on the fifth floor of the apartment, Romani reveals the Singularity is nearby. The group enter the room where it's located, and they're welcomed by another evil Mephistopheles. Mephistopheles reveals a greater ghost called the Great Avici Hell, which draws in spirits and turns them into a pillar, is behind his evil self. Evil Mephistopheles questions why Ritsuka are resuing their Servants since they changed of their own will. He also says the distortion is safe to ignore since it's a fake Singularity. Even if the Foundations of Humanity are restored, the distortion will continue to exist outside the world gathering hatred and pain. Evil Mephistopheles then fights the group after Ritsuka responds they couldn't ignore the suffering inside the apartment. After his evil self is destroyed, Mephistopheles also disappears. Shiki states the apartment will return to its original state with the ghost gone. She then returns to Chaldea with Ritsuka and Mash.[31]

Later, the group return to the apartment to return the remaining Servants to Chaldea. They enter a room on the sixth floor with very brights, where they encounter Frankenstein and Lu Bu. She decided to start wasting electricity after Nikola Tesla caused a power outage at Chaldea with his Noble Phantasm. Lu Bu helped her because she looks like his daughter. Taking note of complaints about frequent outages, Shiki and the others fight the room's tenants. After they're defeated, Frankenstein and Lu Bu return to Chaldea. Shiki reveals she got a request to resolve the cause of the power outages after Mash asked about her memo pad. She then reveals all of the requests are for removing the Servants illegally living in the apartment. As her family owns it, she came to the apartment on their behalf to collect rent. Ritsuka and Mash then help her with evicting the remaining Servants.[32]

Following the complaints on Shiki's memo pad, the group start evicting the Servants from the apartment. They evict Anne Bonny and Mary Read for refusing to pay rent after becoming internet addicts thanks to Blackbeard.[33] With Scáthach's help, they evict Cú Chulainn for illegal gambling.[34] The group find that Oda Nobunaga and Okita Souji's room has been warped by the former's Reality Marble, which is returned to normal after she's defeated.[35] The group evict Leonidas, who was trapped in a room due to his fear of ghosts.[36] They discover Mysterious Heroine X had crashed into the apartment to continue her hunt for Sabers, which prompts Shiki to switch personalities and fight her. After X retreats, Shiki returns to normal with no memory of what transpired. She then tells Ritsuka and Mash that all of the Servants have removed from the apartment.[37]

Later, the group access the roof through the emergency exit, which Shiki unlocks with the key Fou gave her earlier. There they confront the mysterious Servant, who they believe to the mastermind behind the distortion. He declares even if the apartment disappears, his work would continue. The greater ghost from before than appears, to which Mash assumes it is another one. The Servant corrects her that curses never disappear, and declares the system of curses Solomon gave him is now complete. Mash senses the greater ghost has greater magical energy than before, and its resentment grows with each defeat. If its resentment keeps increasing at its current rate, the group will be unable to kill it. Shiki assures the others they can, as nothing can exist for eternity. After the ghost is destroyed, the Servant starts to flee by jumping off the roof. Shiki goes after him, but Romani warns the Servant is an illusion. Ritsuka stops her, and she kills the illusion with a thrown knife. As he disappears, the Servant reveals he was ordered by Solomon to transform the apartment into a Singularity. Instead though he used it to fuel his need for vengeance by using the Servants' own desire for revenge. He refuses to give his identity, only saying "Attendre et esperer... (Wait and hope)." After he disappears, Romani informs the group that the distortion will eventually disappear. Mash is curious about the Servant's identity, and wonders if they'll fight him again. Shiki asserts he may become an ally, claiming he has great love and hatred for humanity. With the distortion now resolved, the group return to Chaldea.[38]

Vengeful Demon's Wail at the Prison Tower

Vengeful Demon's Wail at the Prison Tower (監獄塔に復讐鬼は哭く?) refers to an event which occurred during the Human Order Incineration Incident. It involved an incident where Ritsuka Fujimaru's soul was summoned into a recreation of Château d'IfWP within a different time and space.[21]

Setting

Back when Ritsuka Fujimaru first encountered Solomon in London, the latter placed a cursed on the Evil Eye called on them when they stared in his eyes. The curse was activated at a later date when Ritsuka carelessly said Solomon's name.[22] This caused their soul to be summoned into a recreation of the famed prison tower, Château d'If, within a different time and space that Solomon uses as a hunting ground.[21] As well several Servants, whether they were contracted to Ritsuka or not, had fragments of their soul separated from them and trapped inside the tower. There they would serve as the seven avatars of sin that Ritsuka must overcome to escape, which must done in seven days otherwise they will die.[21] However, Florence Nightingale, lost her original role as the avatar of pride for unknown reasons along with her memories, so the role was taken by Edmond Dantés instead.[22]

History

Ritsuka suddenly find themselves inside a prison cell. They're welcome by a mysterious voice, and reveals no one can help them now. The source of the voice then appears, and kills the spirits trying to kill Ritsuka out of envy. He explains they're in the prison tower, Château d'IfWP, and introduces himself as Avenger. After exiting the prison cell, he tells Ritsuka to survive the ordeal if they wish to learn more. He reveals their soul has been imprisoned. He explains they'll need to pass the seven Halls of Judgement in order to escape. He also says neither their voice nor those of Chaldea can reach each other. He then reveals the current Château d'If isn't the real one, but something similiar to a Singularity that Solomon uses a hunting ground. Ritsuka and Avenger soon encounter Phantom of the Opera, the first of the seven lords, presenting the sin of envy. After Avenger kills him, Ritsuka find themselves back in their room in Chaldea. There Phantom explains the one killed in the prison wasn't him, but rather his ulimate ugliness. However before he can reveal more, Ritsuka is summoned back to the prison.[21]

Avenger explains Ritsuka's body is still in Chaldea, along with everyone else there. However, the flow of time and space differs between Chaldea and the prison, so seven days in the prison equates to one in Chaldea. Avenger also reveals they will always begin in the same prison cell bfore exiting. The pair then encounter a mysterious woman asking for help. She explains she suddenly found herself in the prison with no memories. Avenger decides to call her Mercédès after she recalls she was searching for something important. Taking Mercédès with them, the pair reach the second hall. There they encounter Fergus mac Róich, who represents the sin of lust. After Fergus is killed, Ritsuka temporarily returns to Chaldea. However, they're quickly summoned back, and continues to the next hall with Avenger and Mercédès.[39]

Back in Chaldea, Ritsuka remains unresponsive. Meanwhile in the prison, Avenger reveals the connection between Ritsuka's body and soul is weakening. Leaving without Mercédès, the pair encounter the avatar of sloth, Gilles de Rais. After he is defeated, Gilles reveals to Ritsuka in Chaldea that was only a fragment of him.[40]

Later, Avenger immediately has Ritsuka go to the fourth hall. There they meet Saber Gilles. He prepares to fight Avenger on his own when Jeanne d'Arc arrives. Avenger reveals she is the avatar of wrath, and that she entered the prison willingly. Ritsuka and Avenger then fight her and Gilles. Jeanne retreats, saying she'll stop Avenger's plans.[41]

While Avenger scouts outside, Mercédès wonders she is an avatar of sin. Avenger then returns and immediately has Ritsuka go with him to the fifth hall. There they encounter the avatar of gluttony, Caligula. They then subsquently defeat him.[42]

Later, Ritsuka and Avenger go to face off against the avatar of greed. At the sixth hall, they're confronted by Jeanne, who had been waiting for Avenger. She fights him alone until Amakusa Shirou Tokisada, the avatar of greed, arrives. The two saints then fight Avenger together. Nonetheless, they're both defeated, and disappear from the prison. Ritsuka and Avenger then return to their cell.[21]

Ritsuka and Avenger find Mercédès isn't around. Regardless, they move on to the final hall, only to find it empty. As Avenger begins to tell a story to pass the time, Mercédès attacks him with the wraiths in the prison that admire. Meanwhile in Chaldea, she reveals she was meant to be the seventh lord before losing that role along with her memories. Back in the prison, she reveals Avenger's True Name is Edmond Dantès before disappearing. Edmond then attacks Ritsuka since only one can leave the prison, revealing himself to be the avatar of pride. After he is defeated, he reveals Solomon was the one who trapped Ritsuka in the prison. Solomon placed a curse called the Evil Eye on them when they stared into his eyes back in London. After Edmond disppears, Ritsuka returns to reality.[22]
