Hassan of the Fathomless RiftWP (幽弋のハサン, Yūyoku no Hasan?), Class Name True Assassin (真アサシン, Shin Asashin?), is the "True" Assassin-class Servant of Faldeus Dioland in the True and False Holy Grail Wars of Fate/strange Fake.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Assassin's True Name is Hassan-i-Sabbah, given the appellation of Hassan of the Fathomless Rift, an individual who came to hold the title of "Old Man of the Mountain" by becoming the "shadow of death" rather than become one of the nineteen leaders of the Hashshashin. When he was alive, he was clad in an aura that suggested he stepped on the frontier between the transient world and the underworld, blending in with both sides. This shadow, after overcoming many trials and hardships, reached the Mausoleum of Azrael (アズライールの聖廟, Azurai-ru no Seibyou?) and found the First Hassan, basking in his presence and proclaiming words of respect to the sacred place before perishing without hearing the evening bell.[3]
Due to his unique nature, his placement in the numbering order of the sect’s leaders is unknown to all, and he is known as the Shadow of the First (初代の影, Shodai no Kage?).[4]
Appearance[]
Assassin remains always hidden, floating in darkness as a white skull mask that every Hassan wears, although he can also appear as a humanoid shadow. When revealing himself to his master, he only does so surrounded by darkness and vanishing as soon as light appears. Assassin's voice is coldly and inhuman, but Faldeus was able to tell that it is a male's voice despite being unable to imagine Assassin's age or build from it.[5]
Personality[]
Upon meeting his Master, True Assassin questions Faldeus' convictions and whether or not they are worth taking the lives of others for, declaring that is what it is to form a contract with him. He agrees to be his Master's Shadow so long as he does not abandon his convictions. Faldeus believes that if he got a single answer wrong, Assassins would probably have killed him. Assassin speaks in an old manner, for example using "thee" instead of "you".[5]
Role[]
Fate/strange Fake[]
Day 1[]
When Faldeus first summons True Assassin, the Servant doesn't appear, causing Faldeus to believe that the summoning has failed. However, it's revealed that True Assassin was able to hide himself, even from his Master, communicating to Faldeus by writings. True Assassin speaks with Faldeus, though he remains hidden from him, asking if Faldeus has strong faith in something and if he is ready to kill. As Faldeus answers positively to both, Assassin agrees to make a contract with him.[5]
As more and more people are infected by an unknown disease in the city of Snowfield, where the Holy Grail War is being held, Assassin is shown being aware of the one causing this epidemic, calling it a curse-plagued wind, and informing Faldeus that it shouldn't be able to get inside their base of operations.[6] When Faldeus becomes more concerned about Bazdilot Cordelion, the Master of True Archer and a member of the Scladio crime family, he decides to send Assassin to kill the head of the family, Galvarosso Scladio, who is currently residing at the other side of the country. Before departing on his mission, Assassin asks one last time if Faldeus has the faith necessary to kill, warning that if it is proven later that he does not "the curse will rebound and devour him".[7]
Day 2[]
Assassin infiltrated the main Scladio residence, and observed a conversation Galvarosso had with his great-great-granddaughter Olivia, where he gave her a plush fox. Galvarosso removed his respirator and asks Assassin if the darkness that signals his end is here, stating that he knew for years that the moment of his death would come after Olivia asks him for a plush fox, as that was the only vision his Mystic Eyes of Premonition would show him, yet he did not deviate from the vision and try to change his fate as he would rather accept death than watch the youngest member of his family cry and be sad. Galvarosso begs Assassin to also end the plot of the magi in his organization; they gave up on trying to prolong his life and decided that his personhood doesn't matter, to Bazildot's objection, and have killed the souls of powerful Americans and overwrote their personalities to match his. Assassin covers Galvarosso's eyes, revealing his presence, and telling him not to fear. Assassin takes the form of a humanoid shadow, and before ending Galvarosso's life, he tells him: “I have no reason to judge thee, nor do thou. Entrust all to the night. Awake in peace on the far side of sleep.”[8]
Day 3[]
Faldeus receives a call from a general informing him that on the previous day alone, a promising presidential candidate was among thirty-five influential people in the worlds of finance, media, and politics to die suddenly from accidents or natural causes. After comparing the times and places of death, Faldeus was able to find a pattern based on the proximity to Galvarosso Scladio’s headquarters. Faldeus is unable to confirm whether Galvarosso is alive or dead, but figured that Scladio mages would conceal the news of his death for some time.[9]
Faldeus questioned where Hassan is and what he is doing, as he realizes that the effects of the Holy Grail ritual is spreading to the rest of the United States, and is no longer confined to Snowfield, to the pleasure of Francesca.[9] After False Rider causes several participants of the Holy War, including some of Faldeus' soldiers, to disappear into Kuruoka's dream world, Faldeus prepares to contact Assassin but receives a signal from him instead, and goes to his workshop to meet with him. Faldeus questioned Assassin on his actions, but Assassin confirms that he have not deviated from his agreement and that he ended the lives of the people who were Galvarosso Scladio, who had his personhood eaten away.[8]
Day 4[]
Hassan is ordered by Faldeus to assassinate Ishtar, his Master not hiding the fact that he's basically sending him on a suicide mission. He is told that, in the off chance he succeeds, he doesn't need to come back. This is his last order, and with that he's free to do whatever he wants after Ishtar is dealt with.[10]
Day 5[]
While Jester Karture, False Assassin, Haruri Borzak, and True Berserker are fighting, Hassan is hidden in the shadows nearby the Neo Ishtar Temple, waiting for his chance. The only unchanging part of the world being tainted by Ishtar, he only flickers out of his hiding for one imperceptible fraction of a second because he saw a strange girl attacking Jester with Raving Shadow Flash and that is a Zabaniya he recognizes.[11]
Abilities[]
Assassin is very skilled in acting in secrecy, being able to write down words on paper and slip them into his hand, even going so far as to manipulate his Master at first into writing them, without even Faldeus himself noticing.[6] Assassin's voice seemingly comes from every direction, and yet it is only audible to a single person, and it caused Faldeus to prepare for his own death and become convinced that it is certain and impossible to avoid, despite the voice lacking bloodlust. Assassin's presence left Faldeus immobilized and sensing nothing, as if he was swallowed in limitless blackness, even almost wondering if his ears are playing tricks on him as he hears Assassin in the airless void.[5]
Assassin is capable of entering the most secure of areas undetected, as he was able to infiltrate the heart of the main Scladio Residence, a composite workshop made by elite magi with a variety of defense mechanisms and numerous evil spirits inside a powerful, thirty-five-layer ward, which was surpassed only by the protection of the Clock Tower, the Wandering Sea, and labyrinths magi powerful enough to approach the Root would spend their lives on.[8] Enkidu's Presence Detection was only able to detect him when he “came into existence” to attack Ishtar. Enkidu was surprised, as they didn't think that there was someone with stealth capabilities could slip past their radar. [12]
Assassin is able to induce death through seemingly natural accidents and illnesses, with the majority of illness he prefers to use being sudden strokes and heart attacks.[8] While he can use these indirect means, he is also capable of killing more directly by use of invisible blades made out of darkness itself. Being two-dimensional like a shadow, these blades go through any kind of physical defenses, but they can be blocked by sufficiently strong magical defenses. Assassin is able to materialize the blades near-instantaneously, and from any direction where there is a shadow he can attack from. During his battle with Ishtar, he assails her with a repeating barrage of a thousand simultaneous attacks from every direction. According to Ishtar, Assassin is capable of killing any Servant or living human, with the possible exception of Alcides due to his defenses, but even he is no match for the Authority of a Divine Spirit.[12]
Assassin can manipulate technology to some extent, as he caused rows of monitors to flicker with noise, including monitors powered by magecraft and connected to familiars, and then revealed himself to Faldeus by making him pay attention to a single monitor that started to emit noise, despite Assassin supposedly being outside the prison Faldeus is using as a base. He was later able to shut off and turn on fluorescent lights in a corridor at will.[5] Assassin was also capable of sensing Pale Rider's presence, sensing that it had not entered Faldeus' facility due to its defenses and calling it the cursed plague wind.[6]
Assassin's control over darkness is such that he can spread an impenetrable darkness into an area by sucking away every source of light. This provides him with a perfect environment to attack his target, as he is completely invisible. Within the darkness, Assassin is able to attack from every possible angle, with waves of dark attacks reaching to over thousands of blades which culminated into a nonstop loop of every hits from every direction. The darkness is, however, able to be overwritten by an ability such as a Divine Spirit’s Authority.[12]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Presence Concealment (EX Rank): Becomes one with the World itself. The moment he shifts to attack, it becomes A+.[2] When perfectly concealed within the World, it has the capability to slip past Enkidu's Presence Detection.[12]
Personal Skills[]
- Shadow Lantern (A Rank): The Skill to merge with shadows. Since the darkness provides him with the magical energy of his surroundings, he barely doesn't need any magical energy supply from his Master, provided that he doesn't take physical form. It also enables him to conceal his parameters from his Master, unless the Master uses a Command Spell.[2]
- Fathomless Rift (A Rank): A curse and blessing marked in the world after his death because the First's blade allowed him to pay his death ahead of its time. In other words, a Skill that expresses how one man became Hassan-i-Sabbah by becoming the very shadow of death. He can move as a shadow and warp to any place that has a shadow. Therefore, his blade cannot reach one who is only in light. This doesn't make him impervious to any attacks like the Hassan of Intoxicated Smoke is.[2]
Noble Phantasm[]
Assassin's Noble Phantasm is Zabaniya: Meditative Sensitivity.

Activation condition: when it's guaranteed that his Saint Graph as a Heroic Spirit won't survive.
By connecting to the shadow of the world, he temporarily transforms into the concept of death and merges with his target, dragging them to the netherworld. The activation condition also includes the situation where his Saint Graph won't survive because his Master died.
Although he's called the shadow of the First, the owner of this hidden Noble Phantasm can be more accurately described as a Hassan whose placement in the numbering order is unknown to all.
The future generations were left with no accurate tellings about it. Instead, it was described as the ability to connect with the shadow of the world to understand all that was happening in the land.CLASS 真アサシン
