The Holy Grails of the Mosaic City's citizens are small Holy Grails granted by the Holy Grail of the Mosaic City to each citizen of the Mosaic City.

History[]

Years before the start of Fate/Requiem, several simultaneous Holy Grail Wars all occurred at once and became public knowledge, triggering World War III. The victors of the various Grail Wars fought each other to claim more Grails, aiming to climb higher and higher.[1] The ultimate victor was Chitose Manazuru, whose wish was for the Grail to persist and distribute itself, becoming Grails in the hearts of humans, terminal devices of the Stigmata.[2]

Characteristics[]

Humans now have Holy Grails inside their hearts, giving everybody a partner Servant designated from birth, immunity to illness and disease, eternal youth, and Command Spells that regenerate over time via the Holy Grail of the Mosaic City's magical energy.[3] The magical energy supplied to everybody by the Mosaic City's Grail via Ley Lines can be used for simple magecraft and is more than enough to sustain a Servant in everyday life with no discomfort.[4]

There is a distinction between people born before the war who were given a Grail once the war ended, and people born after the war who were born with a Grail in their hearts. The post-war generation born with a Grail innately can use their Command Spells to freely manipulate their physical age, while people who were born pre-war and given a Grail after the fact cannot.[2] However even people born before the war are still granted immunity to aging and sickness by their Grails.[5]

While every citizen technically has one, not every one likes to make use of them, seemingly never activating it or summoning a Servant. For example, Karin's parents disapprove of Servants and do not allow them in their home.[2]

Erice Utsumi is the only person without a Grail in her heart.
