Profile[]
Identity[]
Izumo-no-Okuni[]
An entertainer from the Azuchi-Momoyama period. She is said to be the progenitor of early Kabuki dances, which, after many changes to the dance styles, has become the Kabuki of the present day. She is said to be the shrine maiden of Izumo, and travelled through various provinces, performing her dances as she went.[1]
It is said that the purpose behind this was to promote the Izumo-taisha, but that is uncertain. What is definite is that Okuni’s early Kabuki dances were extremely popular, and mesmerised people across the world. However, the authorities of the time eventually decided that her dances disrupted public morals, and it is said that she departed for nowhere.[1]
Well well, now you’re all quite acquainted with Izumo no Okuni, right? But you’ve yet to learn the critical top-secret fact about Okuni. Indeed, the shrine maiden who performs excellent Kabuki dances across the country is a temporary figure. In truth, she is a Priestess of Sealing, who seals and destroys the demons who thrive in this world.[1]
――― Ayakashi-Hunter, Izumo no Okuni![1]
Of course, she puts in all her strength in Kabuki too, but she puts on two different hats all the same.[1]
She was born in a village in Izumo which produces Priestesses of Sealing, even though they are considered heretics. Okuni is a young girl who was kidnapped and taken to a distant village by a priest.[1]
She did not even know the faces of her parents, and underwent cruel training as a disposable Priestess of Sealing, and even though her childhood was so filled with misfortune, she went unaffected and undistorted by this, and grew up to be a courageous, cheerful person due to her original training.[1]
One day, the entire village was destroyed overnight by an evil god, which one of her shrine maiden friends had unsealed. Now alone, Okuni travelled to many provinces in pursuit of that evil god. But in the end, that evil god which she chased all her life could not be destroyed. Those regrets became the core of Okuni as a Heroic Spirit.[1]
However, during a certain incident, those regrets were finally washed away. At the end of her long journey, Okuni will finally be able to begin a journey through a new world, as a human being. That’s right, I want to see the outside world with my own eyes.[1]
Zanzaburou[]
According to legend, she travelled to various regions with her husband, Nagoya Sansaburou, demonstrating her Okuni Kabuki to the masses, but Okuni is now accompanied by a mysterious mechanical warrior named Zanzaburou (斬ザブロー?).[1]
"Well, seems like your little story about Mr. Okuni’s a little behind the times."[1]
The mechanical warrior who accompanies her is, in truth, a sacred treasure passed down in Izumo since ancient times, though Okuni has made her own modifications when remodelling him as a Mystic Code for her personal use. Although she calls him Zanzaburou, he was originally the wreckage of an ancient god.[1]
A mechanical warrior said to have been controlled by a Shrine Maiden of the Seal.[2]
Long ago, there was a God of the land who was said to boast unparalleled strength. He defeated beasts, destroyed evil, and always won his battles. And so the God continued to fight to protect humans, however, in his final moment, he was betrayed by the very people that he protected.[2]
Even so, as he took in the blades of the humans, he did not utter even one word of resentment, he simply took everything as he was. And just like that, the God's body was mercilessly torn into pieces by the people he had continued to protect, his name taken away, and his life as a God came to an end.[2]
Or so the story goes, whether it was true or not, this is the story of Zanzaburou.[2]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
At any rate, she loves new things, and the moment she is summoned, she will take in all the customs and phrases of the present day, and sublimate them as art of her own making. That is also the cause of her peculiar manner of speaking, which includes foreign words unsuited to her home era.[1]
Relationships[]
- Himiko
- "T-That legendary miko, Himiko-sama is here?! Izumo no Okuni is astonished… By all means I want to meet and follow the example of the primeval miko of Hinomoto… Eh, that one dozing off with a sloppy face is Himiko-sama? Mumumu, she's even drooling in her sloppy sleep… ── W-wonderful!! If the primeval miko of mikos is like that, I still have a long way to go!! Yes, from now on, I'll aim for even greater heights, and keep breaking the mould! …That aside, is it okay to leave Himiko-sama like that?"[3]
- Mori Nagayoshi
- "Mori Nagayoshi, huh. When I danced for Your Highness, I heard his name. …Yes, His Highness said it in an exasperated voice mixed with sighs… That reminds me, he's the brother of Ranmaru-sama ── T-they don't look ali-… Excuse me."[3]
- Mysterious Ranmaru X
- "Izumo-no-Okuni: This is Ranmaru-sama… Eh? Mysterious Ranmaru X…? As usual I can't understand it, but I don't know what to say about that "Mysterious", it's really enchanting, a lovely word that makes my heart flutter… ── Mumumumu! I have an idea! Okuni Troupe's new performance, a space opera kabuki about Mysterious Okuni X's life! This will get popular!"
- "Zanzaburou: SLAAASH…!"[3]
- Oda Nobunaga
- "Lord Oda Nobunaga… The renowned enemy of gods, the Buddha, and all living things, and the incomparably ruthless incarnation of great evil… That's what she passed herself as, but no no, when you look and listen to her it's all wrong. I see, to be able to use His Highness as the errand boy, you can only be a Demon King. …Yeah, but. I can't take that Atsumori a bit… I'm sorry, I lied. It's not only a bit."[3]
- Chacha
- "Well, well, if it isn't Chacha-sama! Long time no see! Even so, you love flashy things as usual, really excellent! I'm sincerely and terribly thankful to you for understanding my sense, and supporting my performances at His Highness' side! By the way, want to eat some roasted mochi?"[3]

Okuni-san wants to greet and ask them to, by all means, allow me to perform both their books as part of the program~… Yes? - Sakamoto Ryouma
- "I'm really sorry for Sakamoto-sama. Because of my wrong estimation, a terrible thing… Well, that's water under the bridge. This time, what about Okkuni Troupe's overseas peformance with Sakamoto-sama's guidance?! Yes! Let's head out, Okuni Troupe and Kaientai!"[3]
- Takasugi Shinsaku
- "That fucking president. In SAITAMA, it was a relationship of us using each other without having our true intentions displayed to each other, but Ms. Okuni’s feeling where she thinks he’s a shitty president is genuine! I mean, are you still alive, you shitty president!?"[4]
- Hashiba Hideyoshi
- "Flamboyant as well as playful, it’s possible to say that he is indeed the creator of an enjoyable society. It’s also really good that he doesn't care about his expenses!"[4]
- Tokugawa Ieyasu
