Jeanne d'Arc (ジャンヌ・ダルク・オルタWP, Jan'nu Daruku?), Class Name Lancer (ランサー, Ransā?), is the Lancer-class Servant summoned by Chiemon in the Waxing Moon Ritual of Fate/Samurai Remnant.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Unlike the original Jeanne Alter from Fate/Grand Order, who is a fictional creation of Gilles de Rais, this incarnation is the genuine Jeanne d'Arc herself, transformed into an "Altered" state due to unique summoning circumstances that lead to her sacrificing her saintly purity. This transformation is unusual as Jeanne d'Arc is typically considered incorruptible because of her pure nature.
As a trade-off for assuming this Alter state and being summoned into the Lancer class, Jeanne's combat effectiveness has been severely weakened, making her one of the least powerful Servants in the Waxing Moon Ritual. However, she still maintains enough strength to defeat most Rogue Servants, and duel against Yamato Takeru on equal footing.[1]
Her transformation is the result of her decision to save Chiemon's soul, which leads to her bearing his grudge and becoming a shadow of her former self, mirroring Chiemon's cynical and bloodthirsty nature.[1][2]
Appearance[]
She closely resembles Avenger Jeanne Alter, with minor differences such as wearing a purple cape, and her lack of an ahoge. Her facial expressions are also more reserved and neutral, lacking much of the aggressive intensity from her Avenger class.
The Crimson Codex states that Jeanne "has a pretty face,"[3]
Personality[]
Jeanne maintains a somber and stoic character, a significant divergence from her previous portrayals. Her emotional display is notably reserved, with rare instances of emoting. She predominantly communicates in a somewhat melancholic and detached manner, dutifully adhering to her Master's commands.
As a consequence of being shown the details of Chiemon's wish for the Waxing Moon Ritual, Jeanne has made the decision to prioritize exclusively his salvation over the salvation of others.[1]

Abilities[]
Initially, it would have been impossible to summon Jeanne d'Arc Alter outside of Fate/Grand Order.[14] Furthermore, the Crimson Codex never thought Jeanne would materialize as a Lancer.[6] However, during the Waxing Moon Ritual, Lancer Jeanne was summoned, and her mind was heavily influenced by the negative emotions present in her summoner's heart.[6][2] Because of her mental defilement, and the forceful way in which she was summoned, her abilities were severely weakened compared to her Ruler-class counterpart.[1][2] These factors facilitated the restraint imposed by a mediocre Master like Chiemon to constrain her, compelling her compliance with his directives.[2] In addition, due to being a foreign Heroic Spirit, she does not receive a Fame boost in 17th century Japan, unlike most of the other Servants in the Holy Grail War.[15] Chiemon states that Jeanne would be no match for Ushi Gozen, as he is aware that an Oni skulks within her Minamoto-no-Raikou armor disguise.[8]
According to Yamato Takeru, they observed an unusual intensity of Magical Energy surrounding Jeanne during their initial encounter, prompting their hypothesis that she may be drawing the energy from a Spirit Font.[5] In Fate/Grand Order, she's summoned as a Stray Servant, however, she doesn't appear to be weaker than in Fate/Samurai Remnant.[12] Her predisposition to stop the Waxing Moon and prevent the disaster implies she might have been summoned by the Human Order just like Yamato Takeru.[10][12] Despite Chiemon no longer being her Master,[12] he can still empower her with the Magical Energy of the Leylines in Edo.[9]
Combat[]
Jeanne wields two large purple spears instead of the flag and sword used by her Ruler and Avenger counterparts. She also possesses the ability to manipulate fire, generating potent flames during combat.[6] These flames, as noted by Miyamoto Iori, would eventually drown Asakusa if they were to spread out.[4] However, Yamato Takeru expresses confidence in their ability to extinguish any flames with their blade.[6]
Jeanne also boasts incredible Strength capable of killing four Yui Shousetsu clones with a single strike.[13] However, Kiso Yoshinaka was strong enough to overpower Jeanne in a sword clash and kick her away.[5] During their second fight, Yoshinaka resorts to activating his Noble Phantasm after fighting her in close range combat. Jeanne claims that she must finish him before she is overwhelmed. Although she successfully defeats him, she admits that had the battle continued, she may have lost the battle.[16]
During her initial encounter with Yamato Takeru, the two Servants are seemingly even-matched in close-range combat. This matchup forces Yamato to resort to using their Noble Phantasm. However, before they can reveal its True Name, Miyamoto Iori abruptly cancels the attack mid-way with a Command Spell. Parts of the attack still connect, sending Jeanne flying, but it does not do any visible damage to her.[4] During their second fight, Takeru, with the support of Iori, forces her to withdraw.[6] However, during the Tsuchimikado route, Jeanne, powered by one Command Spell, is able to match both of them. Takeru states that their attacks will not do anything to her until they destroy the Command Spell protection. With the assistance of Kiso Yoshinaka, they successfully defeat Jeanne, although she manages to escape.[7] In Fate/Grand Order, the combined efforts of Takeru, Iori, and Ritsuka Fujimaru are able to corner Jeanne.[11]
Miyamoto Iori believes that whether Rogue Cú Chulainn is hindered by Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro's mind control or not, with his strength, he would not be defeated by even Jeanne d'Arc. However, when Cú Chulainn is subjected to Tsuchimikado's mind control spell, Jeanne effectively defeats him. She describes the fight as pathetic, and criticizes Tsuchimikado for compelling the servants to battle like "mindless puppets".[6]
Jeanne manages to block one of "Minamoto-no-Raikou's" long range attacks with relative ease.[4]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Magic Resistance (E Rank): The anti-Magecraft rank has been drastically reduced due to the forced summon and entering a contract with a Master.[citation needed]
Personal Skills[]
- Prayer of the Fallen Saint (堕ちたる聖女の祈り?): Used as an active skill in Fate/Grand Order gameplay.
Noble Phantasm[]
Jeanne's main Noble Phantasm is Tristesse de la Vierge, her spear of lamentation and an extremely degraded, inverted version of her Ruler counterpart's Luminosité Eternelle.[1] It is powerful enough to momentarily overpower Yamato Takeru.[11]
Jeanne's secret weapon is her second Noble Phantasm Flamme Pays Étranger,[13] a recreation of the flames that burned her at the stake.[1] It causes large scale destruction and damages both enemies and Jeanne herself. Jeanne staunchly forbids the use of this Noble Phantasm, so her Master must spend a Command Spell every time he wants it used.[1] When this requirement isn't met, it just acts as a self-destruction mechanism that burns Jeanne alone. Due to this, it has no effect on Ushi Gozen.[13] If forcefully used by a Command Spell, it can overpower Kiso Yoshinaka's Oṃ Ālolik Svāhā,[5] forcing him to give up on his attack against her in order to survive.[2]
Jeanne's true Noble Phantasm is La Pucelle.[2] Chiemon uses it himself to kill Hieda-no-Are in the Entreat the Darkness route.[2]
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Jeanne d'Arc's was designed by Takashi Takeuchi and illustrated by Rei Wataru in Fate/Samurai Remnant, her dual spears were designed by Shimokoshi.[17]. Her scenario writers are Yuuichirou Higashide and Kinoko Nasu.[1] Jeanne Alter was one of the initial requested characters by Koei Tecmo to put into the game. Upon seeing her on the list, Higashide found her inclusion amenable and proceeded to develop an explanation for her summoning, considering that Jeanne Alter is typically not intended to be summonable outside of Fate/Grand Order.[14][15]

[] Fate/Samurai Remnant material - Characters: Lancer [T] Lancer
The Servant summoned by Chiemon. True Name: Jeanne D'Arc. Class: Lancer. An Alter summon. It's normally impossible to summon an Alter of Jeanne D'Arc. Therefore, the version summoned in Fate/Samurai Remnant is a heavily distorted form.
Her mind and identity are based on the Ruler version of Jeanne D'Arc rather than on the regular Jeanne Alter.
Her Alter state comes in exchange of being unbelievably weaker than Ruler. Imagine a Jeanne with less strength of will.
The key concept is that of a saint accompanying a man who wishes for hell.
She has already discerned what Chiemon's true wish for the Waxing Moon Ritual is, and that is why she made her decision to dedicate her time in this summon exclusively to his salvation rather than to the salvation of many.

Heroic Spirit in black garments who wields two spears. Accompanying her Master, she interfered in the battle between Saber and Rider. Due to her impassive, somber appearance, Saber labeled her a "gloomy woman."
Cohort of the Evil Ogre
Lancer again fought with Miyamoto Iori and Saber at the Koishikawa stronghold. When Rogue Saber intruded on their battle, she unleashed her Noble Phantasm, Flamme Pays Etranger, but was unable to defeat him.
That Face
The Crimson Codex mentioned that he had seen Lancer's face somewhere before, but he seemed unable to recall the details of where or when.
The Maid of Orleans?
The Crimson Codex revealed Lancer's True Name to be Jeanne d'Arc. She was born in a French farming village and joined the battle against England as "the girl who heard the voice of God." Though she achieved many great things in the course of only two years, she was ultimately arrested, tried, and burned at the stake.
The Crimson Codex claims that she is currently somewhat different than the girl he once knew.
Become the Sacrifice
On Chiemon's orders, Lancer kidnapped Ogasawara Kaya once again and brought her to the Edo Castle. Though Chiemon's actions strayed further and further from the path of righteousness, she continued to follow his orders both out of a sense of pity and because she had resolved herself to follow him to the depths of hell if need be.
She was to become the sacrifice to open the gates of hell. Lancer accepted Chiemon's final order without a flicker of emotion as she disappeared into the mud.
Along the Way
While Lancer was temporarily away from Chiemon's side, he happened upon Caster. Though overmatched, Chiemon's unrelenting tenacity somehow brought about a miracle. From the fallen arm of Chiemon came not only the gleam of a Command Spell, but also the crimson flames of Jeanne d'Arc's true Noble Phantasm, La Pucelle. This self-destructive Noble Phantasm led her to meet her end. However, even in the face of her own destruction, the expression on her face remained calm. For her, it was enough for things to end this way, that her Master would not be forced to commit any more sins.
Stained by Hatred
The original Jeanne d'Arc has no "alternative side" to her. When summoned in Edo, it was not some sort of mysterious power that drew out a new side of her, but rather the hatred residing in the heart of her summoner that stained Jeanne d'Arc's mind. Because of this mental defilement, and the forceful way in which she was summoned, her abilities were severely weakened. That, however, was precisely why a second-rate Master like Chiemon was able to bind her and make her follow his orders.
