Kaname Asama (浅間かなめ^?) is the Master of Archer in the Imperial Capital Holy Grail Strange Story of Fate/type Redline.

Profile

Background

She was born between the union of a Japanese man and a non-Japanese mistress. In 1943, she was cast out due to being half-Japanese until then Lieutenant Magatsu took her in and protected her from racism due to her father being a general or higher. She was brought to the 2nd Magecraft Division's facility by her caretaker so she could be used as a Mana tank for the Operation No-Riku to summon Archer for the Third Holy Grail War.

After Archer killed her original Master, she took an interest in Kaname and chose her to be her new Master. On her way to participate in the Holy Grail War, she promised Magatsu that she would win even if it would cost her her life. Several weeks later, after the end of the Holy Grail War, she was heavily injured with Archer tending to her.

Appearance

She has the facial features of a foreigner, with blonde colored hair which her bangs cover the left one of her blue eyes. She wears the white uniform of a female seaman of the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Personality

She seems to be a gloomy and stoic young woman due to facing prejudice for being only half-Japanese. However, she is not completely emotionless since she does care about the soldiers under her command and protests Magatsu's policy of sacrificing men to achieve victory. She is also shown to be scared of Major Magatsu, as well as respectful towards her Servant in aiding her with her coat.

Day 1

She recalls Archer during the latter's fight with Saber to deal with bombers coming to firebomb the capital.

After Archer dispatches the bombers and their escort fighters, Major Magatsu orders her to callback Archer, which she complies.

Day 2

• Kaname express fear over Major Magatsu.

She reports to Major Magatsu how their assassins from the previous day were cut down by Assassin and Saber. Her sources were unable to identify Saber's Master, but were able to identify Tsukumo Fujimiya. Magastsu is uncaring and says they will keep sending assassins, no matter how many fall, until Tsukumo and Saber's Master are exhausted and are killed. She protests sacrificing so many soldiers, but he slaps her across the face and says she will be punished for treason if she doesn't shut up. He reminds her that she is the "filthy child of a foreign mistress" and he is the only reason why she was able to join the Imperial Japanese Army. She starts to cry, but is shocked when some soldiers volunteer to be the next wave against Tsukumo and Saber's Master.

She later report to Major Magatsu that the army still hasn't found Saber and her Master yet. When Magatsu mocks a solder's snotty face after he gave him a heart moving encouragement, she looked troubled.

Day 3

• Kaname gets taunted by Major Magatsu.

After they fail to assassinate Saber and her Master once more, Kaname reports about the magical hourglass that Archer found and she assumes it belong to Saber's Master. She has no idea how it works, but she is interested in the fine craftsmanship and structure. However, her commander isn't impressed and asks if she is disobeying his orders again by wasting time with the hourglass instead of watching Archer like she was told, to which she stutters that she is not. She gets scared when Major Magatsu taunts her as he reminds her who saved her life two years ago, the reason she became Archer's Master on a whim, and he blames the soldiers' deaths and punishments on her. Thankfully, Magatsu's verbal abuse is interrupted by the arrival of Archer. Kaname subsequently attends to her Servant, preparing Archer's cape and helping her put it on.

Abilities

Kaname's body possesses a special condition called Special Mana Drop Tank (特型魔力増槽, Tokugata Maryoku Zōsō^?), an ability to store and produce Mana several times that of the average Magus. To a Magus, this ability would be incredible, but as Kaname has little ability in Magecraft, her gift is somewhat wasted. Magatsu took notice of her ability, and decided to use her as an expendable Mana tank, or rather a sacrifice, during Archer's summoning. She had enough Mana to out perform more than 12 monks.

Kaname replaces Artoria from Fate/KOHA-ACE.
