Karmaglyph Meluastea Deluc (カルマグリフ・メルアステア・ドリューク, Karumagurifu Meruasutea Doryūku?), also known as Lord Meluastea (ロード・メルアステア, Rōdo Meruasutea?), is one of the Twelve Lords of the Clock Tower and head of the Meluastea family that leads the Neutral Faction. He oversees both the Department of Archaeology and the Department of Mineralogy.
Profile[]
Background[]
Karmaglyph's bloodline's origins lie in the Library of AlexandriaWP (the historical one, not the surviving Magecraft branch).[2]
The simplest way to describe him is as a Mage Indiana JonesWP capable of utilizing the treasures he collected.[1]
Karmaglyph is the Lord of the Department of Archaeology and the leader of the Neutral Faction within the Clock Tower. The Department of Archaeology has always been in constant poverty for its entire history, but its sheer authority has always kept the Meluastea family at the very top of the Neutral Faction even without the money to back it up.[3] However, the Department has been on the rise ever since Karmaglyph became Lord.[4]
After the death of Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald, he took advantage of the confusion caused by the unexpected death of a fellow Lord to take control of the Department of Mineralogy over which Kayneth had previously presided.[5] While the Aristocratic and Democratic factions fought over who got to take Mineralogy, Karmaglyph pulled the strings so that both would lose, making Mineralogy fall into the Neutral Faction's lap.[4] This makes Karmaglyph the only Lord to be the Dean of two separate Departments.
While the Meluasteas were famous for being quite the softies despite being Lords, Karmaglyph’s actions are quite ambitious. Money was always necessary for Archaeology, but come the 20th century, money suddenly became exponentially more needed by everyone. It’s due to this that he managed to steal the position of Dean of Mineralogy, but this also invited major distress. He did this so that the downtrodden Meluasteas could secure more money, but the Neutral Faction stealing a seat from the Aristocratic Faction has put him on Barthomeloi's watchlist.[1]
A large part of his family's debt is owed to Melvin Weins' mother.[1]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Karmaglyph doesn't have the same air of imposing dignity as other Lords. He is insecure and self-deprecating.[3] He says that his position at the top of the Neutral Faction is the only thing he has going for him.[6] He believes that Lord El-Melloi II's detective work makes him a much more meaningful contributor to the Clock Tower than himself, who is only a spineless Lord of the weakest Department. Karmaglyph envies the way that El-Melloi II restored the El-Melloi name and has reshaped the Clock Tower's political landscape.[6] He is such a fan of El-Melloi II that he gets regular reports to keep him updated about his adventures, even knowing things that other Lords don't.[2] His interest in El-Melloi II is partially political, but also partially because Karmaglyph sees similarities between them. Neither have much interest for their Lord status and they have other goals beyond Magecraft.[1]
When Karmaglyph begins explaining his theory for the cause behind the Library of Alexandria case, Gray notes that his lecture presentation is intentionally being done like El-Melloi II.[4] Moreover, the way he mentally tears down Sion Eltnam Sokaris and elaborates on all the reasons she hates herself is similar to how El-Melloi II disassembles someone's Magecraft, but unlike the people El-Melloi II does it to, Karmaglyph's breakdown of Sion was unprompted and she didn't deserve any of it. When he's called out on his actions, he apologizes and says that he didn't realize that kind of thing needed a reason.[4] Even when he is in the middle of fighting Rin Tohsaka and Luviagelita Edelfelt, he gets distracted by El-Melloi II explaining the motives of the case and wants to listen to him talk.[7]
He enjoys drawing, and fitting for the Lord of Archaeology is knowledgeable about history. He gets along well with El-Melloi II as they both enjoy lecturing about history and Magecraft.[6]
Lord El-Melloi II believes Yvette L. Lehrman willingly revealing her allegiance to Meluastea to him would be unlikely to upset Lord Meluastea.[5]

The Meluastea faction sent Yvette L. Lehrman to spy on Lord El-Melloi II and the Department of Modern Magecraft Theory.[5]
The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II[]
Legacy of the Alchemist[]
Karmaglyph participates in a joint excavation between the Clock Tower and Atlas to investigate a second, secret Library of Alexandria.[3]
Around 2006, Waver, Reines, Karmaglyph and Melvin participated in an underground auction for Magi. Many such underground auctions occur all over Europe and attract all sorts of participants. However, most participants hide their identities for the same reasons why Magi usually want to conceal their Magecraft.[1] What was being auctioned was Cipher Crudelis Hiram's research about the underwater library, the winner of the auction was Reines. They had the data stored in Trimmau for over a year, since long before they met Latio Crudelis Hiram and found any use for it. Waver didn't know what Cipher's research data was about or how to browse, but he still made a point to win that auction despite his financial situation because Karmaglyph demonstrated too much interest in it. Even if he didn't know what the auction prize did, he trusted that it was something useful if Karmaglyph wanted it that much. And this gamble paid off with Log being there to read the data for Reines.[8]
Other appearances[]
In the Fate/Grand Order event "Castle of White Sky, Castle of Black Night", Goredolf Musik says that he used to attend Karmaglyph's classes.[9]
Abilities[]
Magecraft[]
Karmaglyph has two Elemental affinities, Earth and Ether. His specialty in Magecraft is Alteration (変化, Henka?).[10] With Alteration, his touch can effortlessly alter metal into rubber, fire into ice, concrete into mud. In addition to this ability, he also carries concealed in his person a diverse array of treasures he collected as the leader of the Meluasteas. The sheer adaptability of this ability combined with his Mystic Codes is enough to place him among the Clock Tower’s top five.[1]
Karmaglyph wields a Mystic Code called Shoot the Moon: Silver-corded Instant-arc (双銀瞬弧, Sō Gin Shun Ko?), a foldable silver bow on his wrist. He uses Alteration and his Earth element, the essence of gemstones, to extract attributes from jewels and apply them to his arrows.[7] This applies various debuff effects to the arrows, such as one that freezes, one that emits lightning, one that corrodes metal, and so on.[6] Against tougher enemies like the guardians of the Library of Alexandria, he'll fire all of them at once because with so many debuffs hitting the target, even if they resist some there's sure to be others that succeed.[6] Aside from its bow form, Shoot the Moon can also turn into a grappling hook or crane.[1]
As the Lord of the Department of Mineralogy, Karmaglyph also uses Jewel Magecraft. The Ether elemental affinity is exceedingly rare, and in the hands of a high-ranking Magus can be used to interfere with the cornerstone of Magecraft, the Fifth Imaginary Factor Ether itself, and dismantle the Magecraft of another Magus. After Karmaglyph drains the alignment from a jewel to apply it to his arrows, he then fills the empty jewel with the colorless Ether alignment. When the Ether jewel sparkles, it disables an enemy's spell before it can reach him. This is something beyond even the abilities of Rin Tohsaka, who also uses Jewel Magecraft and is an Average One capable of wielding Ether.[7]
One of his spells allows him to chew a jewel to fly, which he uses in his fight with Rin and Luvia to escape their attacks.[7]
Karmaglyph keeps many magical treasures on his person, fitting as the Lord of Archaeology. His true ability, normally kept secret, is called Phantasm Overload (ファンタズム・オーバーロード, Fantazumu Ōbārōdo?). By using Alteration on his own Magical Energy with extreme delicacy, Karmaglyph can overload the treasures beyond their normal abilities. The treasure will burn to ashes only a moment later, but for the time that it is powered up it will show Mystery far stronger than what is normal in modern times, sometimes even stronger as their power in the Age of Gods. His Department has many treasures that could make use of this ability, but as a lover of archaeology, he doesn't like to use it.[1]
Gemini[]
Karmaglyph wields the Supreme Mystic Code of the Meluastea family, Gemini: Denied Uniqueness (否定無二, Hitei Mu Ni?).[10] The term "Supreme Mystic Code" refers to a Mystic Code that is sufficient to be called symbolic of the family of a Lord of the Clock Tower, putting Gemini on the same level as the El-Melloi's Volumen Hydrargyrum.[11] It is kept in a suitcase carried by Tika Meluastea Tlemac and resembles old machinery. Gemini can recreate pretty much any inanimate object like a more advanced Projection Magecraft, but it needs materials of equivalent Mystery and Karmaglyph's own blood to use.[10]
He pricks his elbow on the machine to deposit blood into glass tubes. With Karmaglyph's blood, Gemini can apply Alteration to freely alter the properties of something. By combining this with his Earth and Ether attributes as well as pre-made models and catalysts, Gemini can create a copy of nearly any inanimate object. But unlike Projection, it doesn't create things out of nothing. To recreate a relic from the Age of Gods, he would need an equivalent amount of materials from the same mythology. While they're not costless like Projections, they are more functional and long-lived than Projections, allowing for thorough analysis of archaeological findings.[10] Gemini doesn't need to make a copy of something it analyzes immediately. It can hold on to analyzed data for at least several years before making a copy.[7]
Development[]
His name is a portmanteau of 'karma' and 'hieroglyph'. He was designed with the idea of "Indiana Jones if he could use the treasures he found."[1]

Karmaglyph Melissa Deluc.
“Woah, woah, woah, I know that status-wise I’m the leader of the Neutral Faction, but I’m from the puny Eleventh Department. I cannot be compared to the previous El-Melloi.”
“Hey, El-Melloi II, don’t you think it’s unfair for you to monopolize all the fun of the adventure?”
Lord Meluastea.
Has two attributes: Earth and Ether. He is the Lord of Archeology, and now also the Dean of Mineralogy.
The simplest way to describe him is as a Mage Indiana Jones capable of utilizing the treasures he collected.
He uses Shoot the Moon, a mystic bow normally hidden in his suit. The mystic bow is capable of several different types of shots and can be used for excavation. Aside from its bow form, it can also morph into a hookshot wire or an emergency crane.
He’s actually an Alteration pro.
His touch can effortlessly alter metal into rubber, fire into ice, concrete into mud. In addition to this ability, he also carries concealed in his person a diverse array of treasures he collected as the leader of the Meluastea. The sheer adaptability of this ability combined with his Mystic Codes is enough to place him among the Clock Tower’s top five.
He normally keeps this a secret but his true ability is to overclock his treasures.
Its name is Phantasm Overload.
As someone who has no qualms about altering even his own magical energy with extreme delicacy, Karmaglyph can force a treasure to go beyond its capabilities. Naturally, the treasures burn to crisps more often than not, but until they do, they display power far superior to the Mysteries of the modern era—in some cases superior to their power in the Age of Gods. This couldn’t make for a more horrifying combination with how the Department of Archeology owns quite a few artifacts rivaling the Holy Ark. But obviously, as a lover of archeology, he rarely ever displays this ability.
During the events of The Adventures of Lord El-Melloi II, he’s in his late 30s.
While the Meluasteas were famous for being quite the softies despite being Lords, Karmaglyph’s actions are quite ambitious. Money was always necessary for archeology, but come the 20th century, money suddenly became exponentially more needed by everyone. It’s due to this that he managed to steal the position of Dean of Mineralogy, but this also invited major distress.
Stealing a chair from the Aristocratic Faction put him on Barthomeloi’s watchlist.
The Meluasteas were the leaders of the Neutral Faction, but the Eleventh Department was always among the weakest. Their leadership status was symbolic and held together by tradition. Karmaglyph knew that and this was why he was so invested in solidifying his position.
Also, since the Department of Lore keeps exoanthropic artifacts under custody, they keep each other under constant surveillance. Lore is suspicious that Archeology is withholding artifacts belonging to their category, while Archeology wholeheartedly believes Lore is a hoax to monopolize a set range of artifacts. But despite everything, fieldwork often requires each other’s cooperation.
His interest in El-Melloi II is part political and part because he thinks their situations are similar. Because both lack genuine interest in Lord status and have another goal outside their goal in magecraft.
PS: A large sum of his debt is owed to Melvin’s mama.
His name is portmanteau of karma and hieroglyph.

Supreme Mystic Code of the El-Melloi family.
The term Supreme Mystic Code refers to a Mystic Code sufficient to be called symbolic of a family of similar level to one of the Twelve Lords of the Clock Tower. In Volumen Hydrargyrum’s case, it was created by Lord Kayneth in his early twenties, a clear demonstration of the once-Lord’s exceptional talent.
Ever changing in form, it is a Mystic Code capable of performing both offensively and defensively without showing any openings. Its true nature however is that of a remote processor.
Upon inheriting it, Reines followed the advice of El-Melloi II and created a familiar out of it, endowing it with an elementary kind of artificial intelligence. It was the best advice for Reines who, rather than having the exceptional Magic Circuits of her predecessor, instead boasted a talent for precise control.
By forcing it to remember Reines’ precise control, the artificial intelligence is able to imitate it perfectly. The newly christened Trimmau being capable of taking so many various forms is primarily a result of this advice she received.
In addition, because of Trimmau’s nature, it has also learned a great many things from Flat’s magical hacking. Though that has included a large amount of unnecessary wit and famous sayings, Reines has thus far turned a blind eye to it for the sake of the other merits it brings.
