Kiichi HougenWP (鬼一法眼WP, Kiichi Hōgen?), Class Name Assassin (アサシン, Asashin?), is an Assassin-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.

Identity[]
Kiichi Hougen is an onmyouji from Kurama TempleWP who taught Ushiwakamaru the arts of war. Some theories say that they were also the Kurama TenguWP.[5] They are a piece of Maouson's divine soul, his tengu avatar.[1]
A Buddhist onmyouji and strategist.
A figure described in legend as the founder of the Kyouhachi-ryuu (京八流?), the oldest school of swordsmanship in West Japan.
They taught combat to the young Ushiwakamaru, who was called Shana-oh at the time, and enabled her to learn the innermost secrets of war strategy: the Six Secret TeachingsWP and the Three Strategies of Huang ShigongWP... entirely against their will. Ushiwakamaru just seduced their daughter one day to sneak a look at the secrets, causing the fearsome mentor to try to kill her in their rage.[2]
They go by the name Kiichi Hougen.
But who are they really...?
Kiichi Hougen is a supernatural entity frequently syncretized with Kurama Tengu, the Great Tengu - Sōjōbō of Mt. Kurama. The Edo period puppet play Kiichi Hougen Sanryaku-kan notes that Kiichi Hougen is actually the Tengu of Mt. Kurama, Sōjōbō. This is true to this game. Kiichi Hougen is not human. They're a Tengu.
Tengus are a species of Elementals affiliated with parts of nature, such as mountains, skies, wind, or fire. They're very different from Divine Spirits, but if anything, they're closer to Divine Spirit than to humans. Although they normally don't interact with humans, that's not a hard rule, as shown by the examples of Ushiwakamaru and the Kyouhachiryuu disciples. They have a clear precedent of coming in contact with humans and granting them something. They granted knowledge, techniques, Mystery, and secret arts... but that's not the only thing they can grant.
If you do something that offends them, you'll be literally sent to hell.
For a Tengu as grand as the Sōjōbō of Mt. Kurama can effortlessly open the gates of hell.[2]
Like Scáthach, Kurama Tengu had waited and died when the time the World and its outside finally disappeared.
Appearance[]
Their gender and physique are freely transformable. Their current form is their most frequently used one, but it’s not their most majestic one, from what it seems.[2]
Kiichi has a dark grey tengu mask that covers half of their face, but they only wear it occasionally.
Personality[]
Broadminded. Someone who nonchalantly laughs off minor details.
At first glance, she seems like a good-natured person. Tolerant, humane, and trustworthy. However, the truth is that her sensitivities are far detached from human sensitivities. With enough time, or perhaps just a longer conversation, you’ll notice that she is fundamentally different from human beings.
She is not human.
She doesn't understand in detail how the human species conducts itself. Despite this incomplete understanding, whenever she feels like it, she listens to the tiny, frail beings, or cultivates individuals with latent talent, like Ushiwakamaru. She doesn't understand humans quite well, but she is fond of humans. The same way she is fond of bugs and animals.
She loves parties.
Her signature verbal tic is their loud, boisterous laugher:[2] "Kanra kara kara!" (かんらからから!?).
She'll get unreasonably angry if you ask "Who is stronger, you or Taroubou Tengu of Mt. Atago?" I might be uncomfortable to mention Taroubou, considered the greatest Tengu of Japan, to someone you already heard calling themselves "Japan's strongest Tengu" once.[3]

The founder of the Myourenji family connected a Path to the Maouson in order to become a tengu himself. But the connection was only with the founder, and so his descendants all had to go through a long training to eventually make their bodies superhuman without the Maouson's power.[6]
Little Big Tengu[]
Kiichi Hougen, after defeating Caesar and Fergus in the library, came to Chaldea's Command Room to meet with her former student, Ushiwaka, and attacked Ushiwakamaru's group while utilizing Tengu familiars. As the fight was over, Kiichi Hougen elaborates her motive in wanting to punish Ushiwaka for her past misdeeds. Kiichi Hougen then pulls out the Uchide no kozuchi, the Mallet of Fortune that is one of Japan's omnipotent wish granters, to repeatedly hit Ushiwaka to turn her into Overseer Yoshitsune but the result instead turned the former pupil into Taira no Kagekiyo. Taira no Kagekiyo then attacked everyone and absconded with the Mallet of Fortune while later erratically abused the treasure's power. Kiichi Hougen and Chaldea then chased after Taira no Kagekiyo to stop the unforeseen bedlam.[7][8][9][10]
Abilities[]
Kiichi Hougen claims that she is one of the greatest Sword Saints and startegists of all time.[7][10] The legends pertaining to Kiichi Hougen are from after Murasaki Shikibu, but the latter has studied some of them since she materialized in Chaldea.[7] She knows that Kiichi is famous for her wisdom,[7] and for being one of the greatest teachers of all time.[7][10] However, Kiichi Hougen is only a transitionary name. Her other name is Kurama Tengu, the greatest and most powerful Tengu in all of Japan.[10] Scáthach claims that she isn't a Heroic Spirit and that no Human could ever possess a Saint Graph like hers. She believes that Kiichi is practically a god.[7]
Combat[]
Kiichi's armaments are a long red spear and a Tengu fan. Kiichi can manipulate wind with their Tengu fan and can manipulate fire with their spear. Their Tengu fan is used in Ushiwakamaru in her swimsuit's Noble Phantasm Tengu's Feather Fan - Sudden Gale, with its main effect is to whip up violent winds, but a tengu's fan is also said to possess other abilities, such as creating doubles, granting the owner flight and extremely rapid movement, controlling fire, and exorcising evil...[11] They can grow wings, turn into and reform from a murder of crows, and casually appear as either male or female.[citation needed]
Kiichi Hougen easily defeated Fergus mac Róich and Gaius Julius Caesar. They were so busy trying to hit on her that they barely put up a fight. Scáthach had deduced this had happened because no matter how great a hero or Divine Spirit an intruder may be, they shouldn't be able to get past two Sabers wielding magical swords like them so effortlessly. Thanks to this, Scathach was able to deduce that Kiichi is a woman.[7]
Scáthach claims she could ask for few opponents more worthy than an Eastern demigod like Kiichi and asks Ushiwakamaru, Benkei, Murasaki Shikibu, Jason, and Ritsuka Fujimaru to follow her lead. After their fight, Kiichi praises their efforts and says they did well holding their ground against her. Then again, this was her first time materializing as a Servant, so she claims her Saint Graph might not be quite up to the task. Furthermore, Kiichi's Magical Energy is so strong Kiichi's own Spells can't begin to compare.[7]
Kiichi Hougen was able to block Dioscuri's surprise attacks. Kiichi Hougen and Summer Medb were able to hold their own against the Dioscuri, Oda Nobunaga, and Oda Nobukatsu simultaneously. Once Dioscuri unlocks their Final Ascension and regain their Divine Spirit level, they claim to be powerful enough to obliterate Kiichi and her companions. Thanks to their increased strength, they gain the upper hand. Jason claims that if they keep reverting back into their true selves they will become so powerful Kiichi and the others won't be able to even touch them.[8] Jason states that there's no chance Kiichi Hougen and her team can defeat King Giant Heracles either. Heracles was invincible to begin with, and now that his size has surpassed that of Megalos thanks to the Mallet of Fortune, Jason can't imagine how much physically stronger he will be.[9]

Kiichi Hougen is one of Kyo's most famous Onmyouji and one of the greatest of all time.[7][10] She has displayed the following Magecraft abilities:
- Tengu Familiars: Kiichi can summon tengu familiars during combat.[7]
- Make Way for Issun Boushi: Kiichi Hougen was able to shrink not only her own body, but those of her teammates, using a Spell during the battle against King Giant Heracles.[9]
- Transport Spell: She can use a Spell to transport people through levitation.[9]

- Presence Concealment (C Rank): Kiichi Hougen makes no active attempts to hide. In her own words, "I thought I had been summoned in the Lancer Class". She implies the Rank was supposed to be higher.[3] Although Gaius Julius Caesar and Fergus mac Róich are able to hear Kiichi when she speaks out loud, they cannot sense her presence.[7]
- Magic Resistance (EX Rank): Great tengu Kiichi Hougen who has the face of a monk on Mt. Kurama is a kind of non-Human Spirit species and has non-standard magic resistance skills.[2][3]
- Territory Creation (B+ Rank): The first thing Kiichi Hougen does upon her manifestation is to establish her territory.[2][3]

- Sword of All Lands and Eras (A+ Rank): Kiichi Hougen is described as the founder of the Kyouhachi-ryuu, an ancient school of swordsmanship. Kyouhachi-ryuu is eight styles considered the inspiration to all swordsmanship in West Japan, and were the combat techniques Kiichi taught her eight best disciples. Also, one of said disciples is said to have been Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune(Ushiwakamaru).[2][3]
- Onmyoudou (Dharma) (A Rank): Kiichi Hougen was a very influential Buddhist Onmyouji on the capital by the late days of the Heian Era.[2][3]
- Six Secret Teachings' Art of War (EX Rank): Ultimate strategies regarded as a world treasure. It’s a strategy book as legendary as the Three Strategies of Huang Shigong, and considered one of the Seven Military Classics. Kiichi Hougen is this book’s custodian and guardian.[2][3]
- Natural Spirit Species (A Rank): Expresses that she is a species of Nature Spirit. It possesses a lot of effects but she won't tell what they are. (Not used in Fate/Grand Order)[3]
Noble Phantasm[]
Kiichi's Noble Phantasm is Six Secret Teachings and Three Strategies - Noble Demon King's Great Feather Fan. It is a tengu's fan, and Assassin Kiichi Hougen uses one of these fans (feathered uchiwa) for her Noble Phantasm. This Noble Phantasm better embodies the properties of Kurama Tengu, the great tengu known as Soujoubou of Mt. Kurama, as opposed to Kiichi Hougen, the onmyouji and strategist. Upon its True Name revelation, the power of its winds is on the level of a storm or a cataclysm that splits the mountains and shakes the earth.[2]

- Kiichi is in possession of the Mallet of Fortune, Japanese artifact that appears in numerous legends. It possesses power very similar to an omnipotent wish granter.[7]

"Since she is Ushiwakamaru's teacher, I started the design with a crow tengu theme. At first, she was a crow tengu with a black color scheme, but halfway through it, I did a hard 180, and before I knew it, her primary color was white and she was wearing an outfit that made no sense for her era... Her horn is removable and, in my headcanon, something she's only growing because she thinks it's cool. In Japan, this ill-fated military commander is famous to the point of being said that there is nobody who does not know her name. Possessing inborn talent, despite her charisma she was shunned by elder brother - Yorimoto - and in the end was defeated together with her attendants such as Benkei. Ushiwakamaru is Minamoto no Yoshitsune's childhood name.

It would be no exaggeration to say that Ushiwakamaru (Minamoto no Yoshitsune) is the most famous military commander in Japanese history. Probably only someone like Oda Nobunaga possesses a popularity that rivals hers.
..however, there are many obscure points in regards to history, and especially the early half of her life from before raising an army is wrapped in mystery.

It has been told that at eleven years-old, while she was under the care of the Kurama Temple, Ushiwakamaru met with the onmyouji Kiichi Hougen (some theories say that he was also the Kurama Tengu) and was awarded with the arts of war. While there is no doubt that she was an excellent tactician, Yoshitsune lacked something vital.

That is fear towards the battlefield. All through life, she was incompatible with the other military commanders. That Yorimoto even held killing intent towards Yoshitsune was probably something that she never came to understand in her entire life. For, since she was a genius, concern towards abilities was something that did not exist in her.

The formal name of her Noble Phantasms is "Wandering Tales of the Mahavairocana King".
