Kiso YoshinakaWP (木曾義仲?), Class Name Stray Saber (逸れのセイバー?), is the Saber-class Stray Servant summoned in the Waxing Moon Ritual of Fate/Samurai Remnant.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Also known as Minamoto-no-Yoshinaka (源義仲?), he was a late Heian period figure who was childhood friends with Tomoe Gozen. When Tomoe's oni horns began to grow in Yoshinaka was the only one who was not scared of her; in fact, he told her to be proud of her strength.[2] In addition to Tomoe Yoshinaka also had two other wives, Lady Fuyuhime and Yamabuki Gozen. Yamabuki was also childhood friends with Tomoe and Yoshinaka.[2]
During the first phases of the Genpei WarWP Yoshinaka fought for Shinano branch the Minamoto clan, against the Taira clanWP. He led the the Shinano Genji to an overwhelming victory at the Battle of KurikaraWP, and secured the city of Kyoto. Yoshinaka claimed the position of Asahi ShogunWP, but shortly afterward his cousin Minamoto-no-Yoritomo ordered him killed.[2] On the battlefield Yoshinaka ordered Tomoe to flee and survive, and he was killed by the forces of Yoritomo's sister Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune and brother Minamoto-no-Noriyori on Yoritomo's orders.[3] Tomoe gave birth to Asahina YoshihideWP after his death.[2]
Appearance[]
Yoshinaka's armor is reminiscent of Tomoe's. In particular his chestplate is identical to her Second Ascension.
Personality[]
Yoshinaka could not overlook the Taira clan's tyranny during the Genpei War, but while he said that the reason he fought was to stand up to the Taira in the name of all of Japan, the truth was more selfish: he simply wanted a peaceful future where he and Tomoe could be together.[3] There is nothing he wants in a world without her, and nothing he desires but to be with her.[4]
In Fate/Samurai Remnant he is single-minded in his pursuit of Ushi Gozen, and cares about nothing else going on in the Waxing Moon Ritual besides defeating her. According to Yoshinaka, it is the role of the Asahi Shogun to stand against the darkness of oni.[4] The reason for his obsession with slaying evil oni is because of Tomoe being a good oni; it is because of his love for his wife's good nature that he detests evil oni operating from the shadows.[5]
Role[]
Fate/Samurai Remnant[]
Yoshinaka appears as Rogue Saber, a Stray Servant without a Master in the Waxing Moon Ritual. Immediately after being summoned he senses the presence of the evil oni Ushi Gozen and begins to pursue her.[1] Yoshinaka serves as a rogue element throughout the Waxing Moon Ritual, focusing only on attacking Ushi Gozen and her Master, Yui Shousetsu, as well as Chiemon and Jeanne d'Arc once they team up with Ushi Gozen and Shousetsu.[6][7]
Yoshinaka is largely able to resist Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro's mind control spell, though he does fall under it briefly. He teams up with Miyamoto Iori and Yamato Takeru to defeat Yasuhiro so that he can keep focusing on Ushi Gozen once he's out of the way.[8]
In the Flames of Resentment route, Yoshinaka helps in the battle against Ushi Gozen by using his Noble Phantasm Oṃ Ālolik Svāhā against her Ox-King Reversal - Frenzied Tempest. After she is defeated he disappears in the light of the rising sun, having spent too much time away from the leyline that he was tied to.[9]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Subspecies Singularity III: Shimosa[]
As she dies, Tomoe remembers a conversation she had with Yoshinaka.[3] In the manga adaptation Tomoe sees a vision of Yoshinaka as she dies.
Abilities[]
Jeanne d'Arc states that Yoshinaka possesses incredible Magical Energy.[10] He is shown to be able to fly.
Combat[]
Yoshinaka wields a long sword enveloped by the sun's rays. He charges forward with dauntless courage and excels at breaking through enemy formations.[11] Yoshinaka has many abilities which use fire.
Yoshinaka boasts great strength, capable pressing down Jeanne d'Arc in a sword clash or kicking her away.[6] During their second fight, Yoshinaka resorts to activating his Noble Phantasm after fighting Jeanne in close range combat for a while. Jeanne claims that she must finish him before she gets overwhelmed by it. She succeeds, however, she claims that if the fight continues she might even lose.[10]
Yoshinaka was able to resist Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro's mind control on seperate ocassions with the exception of one route, where he was eventually overwhelmed by his Spell. Although it is unclear if it was due to affinity or a Saint Graph trait, Yoshinaka was still able to fight back somewhat his orders. After Yamato Takeru and Miyamoto Iori fight him for a while, the former eventually breaks Yoshinaka's sword and frees him from Tsuchimikado.[8]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Magic Resistance (B Rank): Resistance to Magecraft that renders incantations under three lines ineffective. It would be difficult to break through even with greater magecraft or rituals.[citation needed]
- Riding (A Rank): The ability to expertly ride mounts. It enables the user to freely control all beasts other than those of divine and phantasmal ranking.[citation needed] Yoshinaka has been shown riding his horse in battle numerous times, making other people initially mistake him as a Rider.[6] His horse is also capable of flight.[9]
- Independent Action (EX Rank): Allows action even without a Master present. Noble Phantasms can be activated on one's own initiative, but it comes at a great cost if the master is absent.[citation needed] Thanks to this skill, Yoshinaka is an exception among the Stray Servants of the Waxing Moon Ritual just like Samson. His Saint Graph is not bound by the Leylines.[7][5]
Personal Skills[]
Noble Phantasms[]
Yoshinaka's main Noble Phantasm is Oṃ Ālolik Svāhā. He tried to use it against Jeanne d'Arc during their first encounter, however, Jeanne overpowered him with Flamme Pays Étranger instead.[6] This attack wasn't powerful enough to defeat Ushi Gozen's Ox-King Reversal - Frenzied Tempest even after having weakened it previously by cutting off its Magical Energy supply.[9] However, it managed to push it back a few meters, turning the tide in the protagonist's favor.[5][9]
His second Noble Phantasm is Press the Attack - Kurikara Pass.
Gameplay[]
Kiso Yoshinaka has 3 Affinity Skills he can use as a playable character.

An armored Rogue Servant who appeared in Koishikawa riding a gray horse. By Lancer's estimation, he is a Saber.
Pursuing the Evil Ogre
Rogue Saber is chasing after Rider and Lancer, calling them the "Evil Ogre" and the "Cohort of the Evil Ogre" respectively. Exactly why he is after the two of them remains a mystery.
As Fate Wills
Rogue Saber fought alongside Miyamoto Iori and Saber at Todoroki. Unlike other Rogue Servants, he has a tendency to appear in unexpected places. And like Rogue Berserker, he possesses the strength to move freely, without being bound to a leyline. Though he has not learned Rider's True Name, he has declared Rider's supposed unholy aura to be that of an evil ogre who bears a grudge against the world, and therefore intends to vanquish the malevolent Servant.
Unclouded Blade
When the powerful spell had taken control of many of the Servants, Rogue Saber retained his sanity and met up with Iori and Saber. Though he himself did not understand why he was unaffected, he pledged to lend Iori his aid.
Destroying the Evil Ogre
Rogue Saber came to assist Iori and Saber, who were struggling in combat against the divine being controlled by Ushi Gozen. His Noble Phantasm, On Arorikya Sowaka, gave Iori and Saber the chance to turn the tide. Ushi Gozen ultimately fell to Saber's blade. Having continued to fight for so long while separated from his Spirit Font, Rogue Saber finally became unable to maintain his Spirit Origin. After seeing Ushi Gozen's defeat with his own eyes, he faded from sight.
Asahi Shogun
Rogue Saber's True Name is Kiso Yoshinaka, the hero who defeated the Taira clan's forces at the Battle of Kurikara and the conqueror of the Hokuriku region. He did well in climbing the ranks, even being asked by the former emperor to guard the capital, but was ultimately defeated by Minamoto Noriyori and Minamoto Yoshitsune, who were under orders from their brother, Minamoto Yoritomo. After fighting in countless battles with his wife, Tomoe Gozen, by his side, he had her removed from his forces at the end so that she might survive, and he then died at the Battle of Awazu.
Tomoe Gozen had ogre blood in her veins, though not the savage kind. Rather, she was descended from good ogres who revered peace and harmony. It was precisely because of his love for his wife's good nature that he detested and sought to slay the "Evil Ogre" who was operating from the shadows in Edo.
