Koharu F Riedenflaus (コハル・F・ライデンフロース, Koharu F Raidenfurōsu?) is the Master of Saber "After" the Holy Grail War in Fate/Requiem.
Profile[]
Background[]
In a world in which each person has a Holy Grail in their heart that can summon a Servant, Koharu summoned Galahad Alter. She is a new generation of magus and the star of the Holy Grail Tournaments, a celebrity in Mosaic City. She represents the Riedenflaus family who are funding Akihabara's Holy Grail tournaments. The Riedenflaus are renown for making homunculi such as Koharu.[1]
The people of Mosaic City cannot actually choose which Servant they will get, and it is decided entirely based on desire and compatibility, but the Riedenflaus own the Catalyst (Galahad's sword belt) to manipulate the Holy Grail into summoning the exact servant they desired, effectively cheating the system. Such actions are actually illegal and outlawed though not unheard of, with there even being a black market for it. Koharu was also the first homunculus in her family to successfully manipulate the summon target utilizing the catalyst to get the results they wanted.
Appearance[]
Koharu wears the uniform of the Mage's Association. She is a short and pale child, perhaps old enough to be in the upper end of elementary school.[2] When Koharu merges with Galahad she grows older. Taller and with a slightly deeper voice, she appears to be in her late teens, about a ten-year age difference.[3]
Koharu's swimsuit was chosen by Karin, much to Koharu's discomfort.[4]
Personality[]
Koharu is a bashful girl who is easily embarrassed, but she does have pride in her abilities. She seems quick to anger. Despite all the feats achieved by humans with verifiable evidence to back it up with the existence of Servants and other means, she believes it to be highly unlikely that humanity even had the technology in 1969 to reach space, let alone send someone to the moon.[2]
She is greatly respectful toward and awestruck by Chitose Manazuru, and calls her by her title, Stigmata.[5]
She reverses her name "Koharu" to "Haruko" as an alias in public.[1]
Role[]
Fate/Requiem[]
The Boy Among the Stars[]
Erice Utsumi first encounters "Haruko" as one of the students attending Caren Fujimura's public history class. "Haruko" is initially put off by Erice since Voyager had been disruptive during the lecture.[2]
Koharu and Galahad are the rising stars of Akihabara's Holy Grail Tournament, which is sponsored by her family. She befriends Erice after running into her at Bookshop Café Borges and invites her to watch her upcoming match, even providing free tickets for Erice and her friends.[1][6] When Nzambi attacks the tournament with zombified Servants Koharu and Galahad fight her, but are easily overpowered by the Divine Spirit.[7] In their battle, Nzambi damages Koharu's Magic Circuits.[5]
Rurihime and Ushiwakamaru comfort Koharu after her friend and tournament teammate Hannibal Barca, who had been zombified by Nzambi, is killed. Koharu wishes to pursue Nzambi immediately, and Galahad is willing to go, but they are talked down by everyone else so that they can recover and come up with a plan.[5]
Nostalgic City Shinjuku[]
As Koharu's Magic Circuits are damaged by Nzambi from their battle, the Riedenflaus family considers her unsalvageable and plans to replace her outright. However they need to keep Koharu around until they can find a way to transfer her contract with Galahad to her replacement, as ever since Voyager appeared in Mosaic City no new Servants have been able to be summoned, so they wouldn't be able to just summon a new copy of Galahad for their new homunculus.
When Karin offered Koharu an attempt to cure Koharu of the curse, Koharu rebuffed her offer as doing so hurts her pride as a member of the Riedenflaus family.
Abilities[]
Koharu can fight Servants by using Possession: Heroic Spirit Possession (英霊憑依, Eirei Hyōi?) to fuse with her Servant Galahad, gaining access to his Skills, Noble Phantasms, and other abilities.[7]
The wounds that Nzambi inflicted on her has damaged her Magic Circuits to the point that utilizing Command Seals and her Possession mode became no longer viable. Other than that, she was mostly fine and will eventually make full recovery. Though cursed, she's still lucky as the damage Nzambi inflicted on her wasn't terminal to the point of converting her into a zombie, thanks to the prevention by Galahad while in Possession mode. It is important to note, forcing herself to enter Possession mode or utilizing her Command Seal any further will endanger her Magic Circuits and make them entirely unusable.
