Components[]
Kyokutei Bakin[]
Takizawa Bakin, a.k.a. Kyokutei Bakin, was a Japanese novelist of the Edo period. Born Takizawa Okikuni, he wrote under the pen name Kyokutei Bakin. Later in life he took the pen name Toku. Modern scholarship generally refers to him as Kyokutei Bakin, or just as Bakin.
Tokimura Michi[]
The daughter-in-law of Bakin who wrote the rest of novel after Bakin lost his sight.
Fusehime[]
The eldest daughter of Satomi Yoshizane, the founder of the Awa Satomi family and a descendant from the lineage of the the Nitta-Genji clan. "Whoever takes the head of the enemy general shall have Fusehime in marriage,"Yoshizane uttered those words in jest, in order to fulfill that promise, he together with his pet dog Yatsufusa stayed in Toyama. Shortly thereafter Fusehime's abdomen started swelling from receiving the spiritual energy of Yatsufusa, and her father suspected her of committing an unforgivable immoral act, thus she took her own life with a blade in order to prove her own innocence. The prayer beads enveloped with spiritual energy then scattered to all sides (of the eight directions), dwelling on within the Eight Dog Warriors related to the Satomi family. From then on, Fusehime became the goddess (guardian deity) protecting and safeguarding the Satomi family from the shadows. Her first-person pronoun is "Wanami (I)".Her disposition is dauntless and resolute, yet proud and unforgiving of injustice. The physical body and age that she possesses as a Servant is based upon this Fusehime.

Relationships[]
Kyokutei Bakin[]
- Katsushika Hokusai
- "Tetsuzou... I suppose Katsushika Hokusai and I have this inseparable relationship...or rather, maybe there's a deep and evil bond between us! Hmph! That man... If I say right, he goes left, if I say the creature's a tiger, he says it's a dragon, and if I say it's just a light breeze, he cries that a great wave's coming! If you were to collect everything I'm missing and knead it all together, you'd end up with that man. The fact that Hokusai and I were able to publish a complete novel titled "Chinsetsu Yumiharizuki" together was nothing short of a miracle in Edo! And now, we're able to work together again here in Chaldea... Oh man, oh man..."[2]
- "Is my relationship with Tetsuzou.... Or rather "Katsushika Hokusai" an inseparable bond or a deeply cursed connection!? That man if I say right he says left, if I call it a tiger he says it's a dragon. If I call out "whirlpool" he says it's a big wave. If you were to gather all the parts missing from me and mold them together, you'd end up with that man. The fact that Hokusai and I were able to publish Chinsetsu Yumiharizuki together probably made us the strangest duo in Edo at the time. And now, to think that we're working side by side here in Chaldea... My, my..."[1]
- Katsushika Hokusai and Katsushika Hokusai (Swimsuit)
- "Ei...Oei? Yeah you, the motormouth. H-h-hold it! I just wanted to tell you I'm already working on an outline for my new work. And don't give me those puppy dog eyes...it's not going to be done overnight. And even though I'm aware I'm in no position to ask this, since I'm using Omichi's help to do so, I'm still going to... Are you satisfied with your current state and position? Are you aware that the name "Katsushika Oui" is a renowned ukiyo-e artist on her own terms? You're okay with it? I see, then everything's fine! ...Hm? What do you mean, you want to be a fairy?"[2]
- Katsushika Hokusai (Swimsuit)
- "Ei.... You're Oei aren't you? Ah yes, you've always been a bit of a precocious girl. Ho, hold on now I've already started working on my next book. Even if you have stars in your eyes you can't expect me to be done just like that. Look I know it's not my place to ask....... But since I met you here I'll ask anyway. That okay? Did Katsushika Oui become a good ukiyo-e artist? Is that so?..... Well then that's alright. .......Eh, you're a fairy?"[1]
- Minamoto-no-Tametomo
- "Chinzei Hachirou Minamoto-no-Tametomo-dono. Who could have thought you were an automated puppet of furthermost subtle deft? Flabbergasting! A man forsooth, forsooth more stalwart than rumor says. Notwithstanding, this uncurbable affection akin to blood love must be the karma of a novelist's life... Er, I wish request you a tale of adventure to upstage the Strange Tales of the Crescent Moon."[2]
- "Chinzei Hachirou Minamoto-no-Tametomo dono. Certainly I was extremely surprised by the delicate and sophisticated "machinery". Truly, truly, you are a brave warrior, exceeding my wildest expectations! Maybe it's the fate of a writer, but I can't help but feel something akin to parental affection...? No matter, I want to write the story of your adventures such that Chinsetsu Yumiharizuki will pale in comparison."[1]
- Okada Izou
- "This swordsman, who appears unassuming and makes an uncomfortable face whenever I call Hokusai 'Tetsuzou!' To think that, in his youth, he survived the fierce battlefields of the late Bakumatsu period, only to meet such an untimely end... Truly, reality is stranger than fiction. His loyalty is worthy of admiration. Perfectly carrying out orders and returning back with the enemy's head, he reminded me somewhat of Yatsufusa... or so I thought but I think that was a mistake on my part. I don't have any more money! I’m telling you, I don't!"[1]
- Kijyo Koyo
- "Oh-ho!? Is that Kijyo Momiji!? She's calling herself Kijyo Koyo here!? She's the heroine Chishusei, Chintatsu in my novel "Keisei Suikoden." It was an interesting novel in which one hundred and eight great men were gender flipped and all became women! And now, if you look around Chaldea, there seems to be no shortage of warriors and knights who have met the same fate as those in my story! Hahaha! Seems like nothing's changed even after two hundred years!!!"[2]
- Hans Christian Andersen and Murasaki Shikibu / Sei Shounagon / William Shakespeare
- "It's reassuring to know there are fellow writers in Chaldea! Yet, being a literary great is especially troublesome, I hear! Haha! Ah...Lord Andersen...a writer of fairy tales. Back in my day, my literary teacher, Santou Kyouden, was the same type of writer. Being young and immature, I derided their works as childish, but I now I've come to appreciate those works. Hm, let me give it a try too... Once upon a time, there once was an old man and old woman..."[2]
Tokimura Michi[]
- Boy Servants
- "(Sigh) Pretty boys are so good. Pretty boys who dabble in crossdressing...pretty boys who slowly go to the dark side... (Sigh) So fascinating. Oh! I'm strictly talking about this for literary inspiration, really. But since I've manifested in this world, I would be extremely happy if I could resume writing "that" work Father left unfinished..."[2]
- "Ah..., they're great aren't they? All the pretty boys. Pretty boys with a thing for crossdressing. Pretty boys stained with path of evil. This is all so fascinating. Ah, but at the end of the day this is just like the story inside of novel, right? Thanks to you, Michi is having the time of my life as I spend these wonderful, brilliant days at Chaldea"[1]
- Katsushika Hokusai
- "I sincerely respect Oei. She supports Toto-sama and shows great filial piety. She is a far cry from someone like me, who was always corrected three or four times for my mistakes, and all I did was trace my brush as I was told. I got to be proud of my brushwork, which I learned between housework tasks, and I was elated to call myself Takizawa Kindou... Oh, how embarrassing... But no matter how tough things were, I enjoyed it very much. I was very proud, Father."[2]
Fusehime[]
- EMIYA / Chloe von Einzbern
- "Kanshou, Bakuya. Those two are truly ill-fated blades... Somehow they seem similar to us, my Yatsufusa."[2]
- Watanabe-no-Tsuna / Ushiwakamaru / Taira-no-Kagekiyo and Minamoto-no-Raikou
- "Doujigiri Yasutsuna, Usumidori, Higekiri, Azamaru... The most renowned swords have gathered here in one place... Mmm...such splendid blades..."[2]
- Oda Nobunaga (Archer) / Oda Nobunaga (Avenger) / Mysterious Ranmaru X
- "Souza Sanmonji, Heshikiri Hasebe, Fudou Yukimitsu Saber... All are splendid blade...s? What the...? Saber? Hm, but that sheath is quite marvelous... Let's see what that one says. "Heshi... Kill... Hasebe?" And it's a "g-geetar"?"[2]
- Okita Souji / Hijikata Toshizou / Okada Izou / Sakamoto Ryouma
- "Izumi-no-Kamikanesada, Kashu Kiyomitsu, Kijinmaru Kunishige, Mutsu-no-Kami Yoshiyuki. And could that be...Hizen? Splendid...what lovely blades..."[2]
- Gareth (Swimsuit) / Cú Chulainn (Caster) / Hessian Lobo / Sitonai / Mary Anning / Carmilla (Swimsuit) / Nitocris Alter
- "see that there are a handful of other Servants who, like me, have animal companions here in Chaldea. But I have to say Yatsufusa and I are the best pair! He's the biggest, cutest... Er... Well, he may not be the biggest... Cutest...may be up for debate... He's comfortable to ride...no, sometimes I strain my back after riding him... Oh come on, don't pout. Ah I know! He's the best at gathering wild mountain plants! That's it!"[2]
- Wielders of Famous Swords
- "Famous swords from around the whole world gathered in one place... Yes, what fine swords... It would most definitely cause a disturbance but I absolutely want to have a battle here... I've been secretly hoping that the lord here would organize a swordsmanship tournament."[1]
Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Event: Nanmei Yumihari Hakkenden[]
She was suddenly summoned from a test summoning circle set up in Chaldea. However, the eight familiars were scattered and the spirit was divided into eight quarters, so only Michi's personality, not Barkin's, remained. Afterwards, it is revealed that the target of the siege attack on Chaldea is Tametomo, who appears in the novel written by Bakin, and she and Ritsuka go to the singularity to solve the incident.
As she searches for the scattered soldiers in the Singularity, a background similar to the novel he wrote, her spirit gradually recovers, and Barkin's spirit comes back later. Finally, they enter the island, which is Tametomo's base, and they are asleep until they collide with Chaldea. Michi says that Bakin should not be woken up, but Tametomo is aiming for Chaldea, so she has no choice but to put Tametomo first, and Hokusai As she was awakened by his actions, she seemed to be assisting with his ability to defeat Tametomo...
As soon as she completely gathered all the eight dogs she suddenly changed into Fusehime's appearance.
In fact, it was a Servant accidentally summoned by the power of the Holy Grail of Singularity, and with this, Bakin tried to save his son who died with the Holy Grail, but Tametomo, who was summoned together, entrusted himself to Bakin, thinking that if he did, he would be discovered by Chaldea. However, Michi, who had a crush on such an action, made the eight dogs scatter, and he himself fell asleep while running away together.
However, while running away, not all of the eight dogs followed, but Sōsuke, who had the 'righteous' orb, whom Chaldea first met, could not be taken away. Even though he was caught up in it, Lee Jo, who had heard the story in detail from Mitch, was furious and asked if he would trample on and throw away the life of his family, including his son, in order to make his wish come true.
Abilities[]
Class Skills[]
- Riding (B Rank): Aptitude for riding. Although he can command most vehicles with greater skill than the average person, he is unable to command phantasmal beasts, demonic beasts or scared beasts. However, when it comes to dogs and dogs alone, this skill becomes equivalent to an A rank riding skill.
- Magic Resistance (B Rank): Nullifies spells of three verses or less. Difficult to harm even with grand magic, ritual spells and the like. This skill is further increased by the renown of Bakin's works and his depth of understanding concerning the Heroic Spirits used as characters.
- Divinity (C Rank): Weak divinity coming from the goddess Fusehime.
Personal Skills[]
- Svabhāva (B Rank): A Buddhist phrase that means "the name makes the person." Here, it refers to the unique naming system Bakin used in many of his books. For example, the "fuse" in "Fusehime" has a deeper meaning of "a human who obeys a dog." Naming is both a prayer for creation, and a curse of righteousness. In the magecraft world, understanding a being's true name is essential to controlling it.
- Eight Benevolences and Righteousnesses (A Rank): These eight virtues are "Jin" (Benevolence), "Gi" (justice), "Rei" (courtesy), "Chi" (wisdom), "Chu" (loyalty), "Shin" (faith), "Kou" (piety), and "Tei" (respect), and are traditionally considered a crucial part of being a good person. The spirit beads that symbolize these virtues, each of which has the character for that virtue printed on it, flew off in eight directions after Fusehime died, and came to be possessed by each of the eight Dog Warriors from the day they were born. Eventually, once the Dog Warriors all came together, these mysterious beads then bestowed new power upon the goddess Fusehime.
- Lost in Writing (A Rank): A skill that reflects the countless busy days Kyokutei Bakin spent absorbed in the act of creation. Symbolizes the bond between Bakin and his daughter-in-law, Omichi, who supported him after he lost his sight.
Noble Phantasm[]
Bakin's Noble Phantasm is Nansō Satomi Hakkenden. With the divine protection of the Gods and the Buddha, the goddess Fusehime dashes through the air as she wills riding upon the back of Yatsufusa.
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Kyokutei Bakin was designed by TAKOLEGS in Fate/Grand Order. Her scenario writer is Meteo Hoshizora in Fate/Grand Order.[1]
Comments from Illustrator[]
"Since Kyokutei Bakin is one Servant with three completely distinct personalities, I figured that if they were all different people, their expressions would also be completely different. So, I prepared three sets of facial expressions for all three personalities, but making adjustments and managing everything during the process was the most challenging part."
"Regarding the Eight Dog Warriors, I was told that the breed of the dogs didn’t need to be limited to Japanese breeds, so I primarily chose breeds that are easy to distinguish even as puppies and seemed like they could hold their own in a fight to some extent. That said, the illustrations prioritize cuteness and a sense of softness, with an intentional two-dimensional (flat) aesthetic" (TAKOLEGS)[1]
