The Labyrinth Holy Grail War (迷宮の聖杯戦争, Meikyū no Seihai Sensō?) is a Subcategory Holy Grail War held in the Seventh Labyrinth of Caubac Alcatraz an unknown amount of time after the events of the 2004 Great Holy Grail War of Fate/Apocrypha in the World of Fate/Apocrypha. It is the main conflict of Fate/Labyrinth.
Origin[]
Taking place in the Seventh Labyrinth of Caubac Alcatraz, the purpose of the War is to lure the summoned Servants into the Labyrinth with the Subcategory Holy Grail as bait and exhausting them with traps and monsters, so Wolfgang Faustus, a Lamyros responsible for setting up the Grail inside the Labyrinth, could kill them, steal the Heroic Spirit's Spiritual Core, and consume them to ascend to a higher existence.[1]
By the time of Fate/Labyrinth, the War had already taken place two times before, with Wolfgang having consumed three Spiritual Cores already.[1]
Procedure[]
Like other Subcategory Holy Grail Wars, the Grail set up inside the Labyrinth can summon up to five Servants in total, they go through the Labyrinth's monsters and traps, replenishing their Magical Energy from the magic items they can pick up from slaying the monsters, and aim to reach for the Holy Grail in the innermost part.[2]
Although Masters aren't required in the War, likely due to Wolfgang's ambition to achieve "his own ascension", individuals inside the Labyrinth can still summon a Servant of their own and become Masters in the War.
History[]
The story starts with Norma Goodfellow being possessed by Manaka Sajyou who had traveled to her world from the Reverse Side of the World out of a desire to experience a dream. Manaka takes over Norma's body both in mind and appearance as Norma accidentally summons Saber (Artoria Pendragon). Making a contract with Saber, Manaka proceeds through the labyrinth with her. Even though up to 5 Servants can be summoned, Manaka and Saber encounter three other Servants, Archer from Fate/EXTRA, True Assassin and Caster from Fate/stay night.
Charmed by Manaka, all four Servants decided to team up to fight the Bosses of each level. Upon beating the boss of the 4th level, Manaka starts getting called back to her world by the Beast-Class Servant and leaves Norma's body, reverting it back to Norma's usual appearance. Confused, the Servants asked what is going on, but Norma becomes frightened and runs away, triggering a pit trap that causes Norma to fall to the final level. In a crystal cavern at the bottom-most level, Norma finds herself attacked by carnivorous Fairy Golems, but is saved by Gray, whom she mistakes for a Lancer-Class Servant, who was sent to investigate the Labyrinth.[3] Meanwhile, the Servants decide to find Norma and both parties head to the Grail Chamber. Along the way, Saber fades away having lost her Master Manaka.[1]
In the Grail Chamber, both Gray and Norma meet the host of the Grail War, Wolfgang Faustus, who attacks them with his summoned Berserker-Class Servant, but they are saved by the other Servants. The Subcategory Holy Grail War ends with the death of Wolfgang Faustus at the hands of Gray and the 3 Servants; and the destruction of the Subcategory Holy Grail by Norma with the help of Manaka.[1] Norma is then sent back to the entrance of the Labyrinth where she says goodbye to the Servants and leaves with Lord El-Melloi II and Gray to make a report at the Mage's Association.[4]
