Li ShuwenWP (李書文WP, Ri Shobun?), Class Name Assassin (アサシン, Asashin?), is an Assassin-class Servant appearing in Fate/Grand Order.
He is the Stray Assassin (逸れのアサシン?) summoned in the Waxing Moon Ritual of Fate/Samurai Remnant, allying with Master Yui Shousetsu.
Profile[]
Identity[]
A legendary martial artist from China who, despite being born in modern times, carved many legends. A Chinese martial artist from Yanshan County, HebeiWP - CangzhouWP (1864~1934). Having been born in the deathbed of the Qing DynastyWP, Li Shuwen distinguished himself soon after beginning to take lessons in Bajiquan, ascending to the point of being extolled as the strongest in the history of Chinese martial arts. A prominent martial artist in the history of Chinese martial artsWP, renowned as "a second strike is needless, so long there is one it will suffice". Otherwise he is known as Demon Fist Master (魔拳士?) of the Bajiquan. Rather than learning 1,000 techniques, he personified a literal one-hit kill by thoroughly polishing up a single technique.
The progenitor of the Li clan's branch of Bājí, Li Shuwen excelled in the use of spear to the point of being nicknamed "Divine Spear Li" (神槍李, Kamisō Ri?). The "Six Harmony Great SpearWP" that he used was a basic weapon of the Bājí-branch and, if one is to accept this extreme logic, it can be said that the unarmed techniques of the Bājí-branch (the Bājíquán) are nothing but preliminary steps to learn the techniques of this great spear.
It is said he have brought too much hatred due to killing too many opponents and finally had his life ended by being served poison from the victims relatives.
Appearance[]
He seems to have lost some weight from his younger days.
Personality[]
Unlike his younger days, he has become a gentle old man. He still makes use of his monstrous fists, but he won't do it unless extremely necessary. The hiding of one's own ferocity was a gentle state of mind that he couldn't comprehend in his younger days. But once he fights an enemy, they will know that the same fangs he had in his younger days haven't lost their sharpness.
Relationships[]
- Li Shuwen (Young Lancer)
- "Well, what a thing, to be able to face my self from the past. Servants are deeply wondrous beings. And we can even fight. I'm speechless."[2]
- He hasn't been able to get rid of the temptation of fighting to the death with himself, and fears he won't be able to contain himself once they meet. Even if he managed to contain himself, he knows his younger self would attack him immediately, and he would be intent on taking him on.[1]
- Yan Qing
- "To be worthy of meeting the founder of the Yangqingquan after death. Really, you see some things when you become a Servant. The high-speed fist that doesn't cast a shadow... Fun, what an amusing thing."[2]
- Qin Shi Huang
- "Even if it was something that occurred in a Lostbelt, to think they'd have an old man like me serve them by their side..."[1]
- "Even if it was something that occurred in a Lostbelt, to think they'd have an old man like me serve them by their side... I am most honored."[1]

Fate/Samurai Remnant[]
Li Shuwen is a Masterless Stray Servant participating in the Waxing Moon Ritual. He works with Yui Shousetsu, the Master of Rider. Because the Waxing Moon Ritual is taking place almost 200 years before he was born, nobody else participating has any context for Li Shuwen's fighting style.[6]
He allies with Yui Shousetsu and acts as a guard in their main stronghold in Kanda. He asks what is their objective, Iori says that their objective is to preserve the peace in Edo and destroy the Waxing Moon vessel. After being defeated, Li Shuwen asks both Saber and Iori if they can put their objective above their own desires for the Waxing Moon Ritual. Only Iori answers that he will, Saber not speaking at this moment.
Abilities[]
Li states that if he ever met his younger self they'd end up killing each other. When asked about who is stronger between the two, Li replied that his Lancer self is obviously stronger. That said, he still claims that he would win, as strength alone is not the only factor in deciding the victor.[5]
Combat[]
Mori Nagayoshi was fast enough to react to a surprise attack from Li Shuwen aimed at Ritsuka Fujimaru. Thanks to his great bulk, he was able to shield Ritsuka from the attack, although it was in exchange for taking severe damage, which made him feel as if his insides were about to become his outsides. Li and Mori keep fighting until Ritsuka orders Mori to withdraw, and Li decides to join them.[3]
Li Shuwen was the first Servant who managed to repel Mysterious Ranmaru X's advance when she broke into Chaldea. While he sent her back with a single punch, it didn't deal any damage.[4]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Veteran (A+ Rank): A skill given to Servants who have been summoned at the stage where they have mastered their mental fortitude. They are able to stay in a state of serenity under any circumstances, and through the contract they have, they are able to constantly stabilize their Master's mental state as well.[1]
- Magic Resistance (Rank D): A Class Skill when as a Stray Servant
Personal Skills[]
- Chinese Martial Arts (Bajiquan) (A+++ Rank): One of china's principles. This is proof of how much one has mastered the martial arts whose goal is to have the practitioner become one with the universe. Unlike other skills, learning this one is extremely difficult, and only at rank A can one finally claim to have 'obtained' it. Moreover, if one adds the +++ ranks to it, it means they have become a master among masters. The use of the spear is usually considered his special ability, but when Li Shuwen is summoned as an old man, he prefers ending things with a single strike of his fists.[1]
- Sphere Boundary (Extreme) (A- Rank): A skill where one uses their own qi to feel their surroundings, or to erase their own presence. Reaching mastery in this skill allows one to become one with nature, even giving one the ability to become completely invisible. Due to his old age, Li Shuwen has achieved further mastery in this technique. Even in the middle of a heated battle, he has the ability to completely disappear in the blink of an eye.[1]
- Intersect of Yin-Yang (B Rank): An ability possessed by all Humans to switch their own nature. Although Li Shuwen leans more towards yang after having become old, he still hasn't lost his fierce claws, and can freely switch to yin in an instant and slaughter his enemies effortlessly. His cold-heartedness in battle has not been lost.[1]
Noble Phantasm[]
His Noble Phantasms are No Second Strike and Fierce Tiger Forcibly Climbs a Mountain.
Gameplay[]
Li Shuwen has 4 available skills when used in Fate/Samurai Remnant:
- Six Arm Strike: Launches three powerful blows.
- Sunder Step Thrust: Closes the distance with blinding speed and then delivers a fierce jab.
- Twin Palm Burst: Spreads both arms wide to slap hands together, triggering a shockwave to the front ant the back.
- One with the Heavens: Suffuses the entire body with Qi, increasing the Noble Phantasm Gauge.

Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Li Shuwen was illustrated by Arco Wada in Fate/Grand Order. His scenario writer is Yuuichirou Higashide in Fate/Grand Order.[1]
Comment from illustrator[]
"You did it Master Shuwen, you equipped those suspicious glasses!!!! I figured it would be out of character to have his designs be a little over the top or dynamic; surely this man would be incredibly strong even when naked, so using Takeuchi's rough design of Old Li Shuwen as a base, I made his other stages as simple yet cool as I could. This grandpa is still super strong and badass, right!? That's how I wanted to draw him!!!!" (Arco Wada)[1]
