LilithWP (リリスWP, Ririsu?), Class Name Berserker (バーサーカー, Bāsākā?), is a Berserker-class Servant contracted to Shielder Galahad and later summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
A Demon originating from Mesopotamia, Lilith is the Woman of Storms (嵐の女, Arashi no onna?) and mother of the evil LilimWP spirits.[3] She was feared as someone who brought death to infants and mothers, even as she herself was seen as the mother of succubi and other evil spirits.[1]
Sharing the same name and derived from the original Lilith from Mesopotamia, in some Jewish folklore such as the Alphabet of SirachWP (c. 700–1000 AD), Lilith appears as Adam's first wife, who was created at the same time and from the same clay as Adam.[1] As a Servant however, Lilith has only identified as the Mesopotamian version of the demon, not the Jewish version who is the first wife of Adam. She says that she never even met Adam.[5]
History[]
The name Lilith is only mentioned once in the Old TestamentWP, in Isaiah 34:14, which depicts her as an ominous figure appearing in the night: "Lilith herself, demoness of the night, will call Edom her haunt / A place to recoup and rest between her devastating forays." References to her can also be found in the Dead Sea ScrollsWP and TalmudWP, though not often. In the Bible, the description of God's creation of Adam and Eve differs slightly between Genesis 1 and Genesis 2. Theologians tried to solve this contradiction by saying that Adam had a wife before Eve, Lilith. She gradually was mixed with legends of the evil spirit LilituWP of Mesopotamian mythology and took hold in later Judaic traditions.[1]
The Alphabet of Sirach, written some time between 700 and 1000 AD, describes Lilith as opposing God and Adam and leaving the Garden of Eden. Three angels try to convince her to return, but she remains firm in her stance even after God declares that 100 of her children, the evil Lilim spirits, will be killed if she does not return. In response, Lilith says that she will kill the infants of humanity in return.[1]
The evil spirit Lilith is a bringer and death to infants. She is said to hold control over the first 8 days of boys' lives, and the first 20 days of girls'. She decides who lives and who dies. However, Lilith cannot use this power on babies named after the angels who tried to stop her from leaving the Garden of Eden (Senoy, Sansenoy and Semangelof), or babies who wear charms bearing their likeness.[1]
She would come to be known as the "Mother of Death" (デス・マザ, Desu Maza?), a killer of both human infants and her own children.[1]
Appearance[]
In her First and Second Ascensions she is a teenager, while in her Third Ascension she is an adult.[1]
Personality[]
She is a no-nonsense Servant, who has both a cold and a warm personality, as contradictory as that may seem. In her 1st and 2nd Ascension, Lilith has an extremely hedonistic disposition. That said, what lies beyond that hedonism is a sharp eye for observation, constantly trying to get the better of whoever she's dealing with. She has a real knack for fieldwork, essentially. She is obviously an anti-hero, and internally, she is against being summoned by Chaldea... though she would never admit that publicly. She somewhat likes humanity when considered as a whole, but when considering them on a personal basis, she absolutely hates humans.[1]
Lilith sees it as her duty remember every infant she kills. She remembers the lives they lived, what made them happy, and what made them sad.[6]
Relationships[]
- Mash Kyrielight
- Lilith claims to love Humanity, and she admits to liking Ritsuka Fujimaru, however she absolutely despises Mash Kyrielight from the bottom of her heart, to the extent that Mash's misery is her pleasure, feeling joy whenever Mash is in pain, and chose the name of Irene Adler, knowing Mash was an avid fan of Sherlock Holmes. After hearing of Mash's entire life from Galahad, Lilith came to hold intense hatred for her. Her reasoning is that, humans' have scales of what is good and what is evil and how they shift, citing a friend doing something evil or a villain doing something virtuous as examples of what would provoke that change. She claims that even Ritsuka Fujimaru have had these "scales" shift many times over the course of their journeys.[3]
- However, she declares this does not hold true for Mash, as Mash has never found someone who she could ever feel hate towards those who are evil, or that someone is truly unforgivable. Mash has dealt with her distresses in no different manner than a machine would, without any conviction. While she may find words to admonish a friend when doing something horrible towards her, her "scales" would never change. No matter what evil is set upon her "scales", they would never change. She points out Novum Chaldea's desires for Mash to be forever pure, but claims she's had innumerable times in her journey to reinvent herself, and has never done so, insisting Mash has intended to remain pure, whether she knew of it or not, as wielding Lord Camelot would require that kind of purity, as well as proving she herself is not bearing the sin of responsibility for the Lostbelt's destructions like Fujimaru.[3]
- Her inability to hate and lack of her own conviction are what drive Lilith's own hatred, declaring Mash nothing more than a defect; a fake human. Even should she kill Mash's Master, she's sure Mash would never be driven to hate her or be mad at her.[3]
- Gilgamesh / Enkidu
- "I'm from Mesopotamia and all, but FYI, I don't got any connections to like the goldie king and his handsome clay puppet, 'kay? Oh, and also, I'm not a divorcée."[1]
- Mordred
- "Whoa, whoa, it's a troublemaker! Gosh, I love your punk vibes. Wanna team up? We could make a team and like, go wild? Oh, you're a Knight of the Round Table. Probably bound by rules of good conduct 'n all that, right?"[1]
- Avicebron
- "Ahahaha, so this is Adam! Well, nothing wrong with that? Not like it has ANYTHING to do with me. Being called a divorcée was such slander anyway. Oh, since I've got you here already, how about putting a rocket launcher on his shoulder? Super cool, right?"[1]
- Meltryllis
- "Huh?! Wait, are you like some kind of different aspect of me? What, you're not? Still, super cool legs you've got there. Maybe I should get a gimmick like that too? Maybe I should like start twirling in combat?!"[1]
- Ashoka
- "Oh, King Ashoka. No, it's like, my body doesn't remember you, but my heart does? Hmm, or I dunno about putting it like that. Whatevs, you seem to be doing good though, so great. Still varti-ing the chakra like usual? ...I know I said it, but that made like NO sense, ahahahaha!"[1]
- James Moriarty (Ruler)
- "Why, if it isn't the king of the loser-pretty-boy-squad Moriarty himself! In the last Singularity you were a lawyer, y'know. Maybe being on the side of good suits you better than you think? Ahaha, you look like SO upset right now!"[1]
- Dante Alighieri
- "Oh, Dante Alighieri. I'm Lilith. That's about it, I guess? I feel like the two of us have like super terrible chemistry. Well, that's given since you're all about your Beatrice and all. So like, basically, right now our relationship is just that we're Servant of the same beloved Master. Friend of a friend, kinda? Not got much in common!"[1]
- Amakusa Shirou Tokisada
- "Ah, Shirou's here! What? You think that sounds too much like a dog's name? Okay... Shirou, then! Still hate humans? Or do you like them now? "Those statements are both true and false"? You sure live a complicated life, don'tcha? Don't wanna be like the wind, like me? I think you'd make a great wind, personally... No? Welp."[1]
- Kiyohime / Minamoto-no-Raikou / Melusine / Aesc / Jack the Ripper / Morgan / Larva Tiamat / Tenochtitlan
- "Mother, husband, lover... Ah, I see, you get incredibly uneasy if you don't delineate through words exactly what kind of relationship you have with him, don't you? Poor little thing. Oh, no, those were just my personal thoughts, I had no intention of slandering you, never."[1]
- Larva Tiamat
- "Now here we have someone really important. Right, Tiamat, you're... Hm? You sure seem awfully wary of me. Yes, it's true that one aspect of me is that of the Mother of Death, indeed... Still, don't you think you spoil humanity a bit TOO much? Whoa, you're crying like crazy! I apologize, no, I really mean it!"[1]
- Mephistopheles
- "Ohh, what straightforward devilishness. Still, you're not much an actual devil, now are you? Even though you find ruining someone so, so delightful, you still keep that urge under control when it comes to Master. How admirable of you... Ah, that said, I'm still the who'll get to die first after Master, okay?"[1]
Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Courtroom for the Judgment of Mankind: Trinity Metatronius[]
Lilith was originally a Rogue Servant who appeared in Antarctica, soon dying from magical energy drain because she didn't have a Master. Galahad found her and made a contract with her to save her life.[5]
When she first meets Chaldea, Lilith refuses to give her True Name, instead saying they can call her "Irene Adler". She then proceeds to get basic facts about Irene Adler wrong, presumably intentionally to annoy Mash, who is a fan of Sherlock Holmes.[2]
Abilities[]
Lilith is considered incredibly strong as a servant. While not on level of the previously seen Metatron, Kadoc Zemlupus estimated Lilith's power comparable to that of a Top-Ranked Servant (トップランクのサーヴァント, Toppu Ranku no Sāvanto?).[2]
Using her own magical energy, Lilith is able to give birth to several of her children known as LilimWP (リリンWP, Ririn?). She names three particular Lilim Eins (アイン, Ain?), Zwei (ツヴァイ, Tsuvai?), and Drei (ドライ, Dorai?) respectively and describes their purpose as closer to Familiars or weapons than proper offspring.[7] She can also mold her Lilim into exact doppelgangers of herself that are so convincing that Metatron was unable to tell the Lilith she struck down was a fake until after the impostor revealed it herself.[8]
Combat[]
Her primary weapon is a pair of blades merged together and used like scissors. Alternatively, she can detach them from each other and use as individual blades. She is capable of manifesting many more and use them like a sawblade or attach them to her feet to kick down on opponents. Furthermore, Lilith can levitate the blades on command, allowing her to ride her weapons like a broomstick, perform diving stabs, or throw and retrieve them from the enemy with ease. One of her special attacks enshrouds the area in darkness while summoning two enlarged golden versions of her blades over her target. The weapons then close in together, cutting into the enemy and causing a large explosion of light.
She can also manifest a giant apple and throw it at opponents, detonating on impact.
In her 3rd Ascension, Lilith ceases using her blades, instead primarily fighting with her Lilim and other magical abilities, alongside her talons and wings.
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Mad Enhancement (EX Rank):
- Divinity (B Rank):
- Hatred (C Rank):
Personal Skills[]
- Like the Brilliant Night (EX Rank): Lilith is also known as the Witch of Night. She wanders the wilderness in search of men to seduce, and eats infants. The cries she lets out at night makes people shiver in terror.[1]
- Like Dancing Wings (A Rank): It has long been theorized that Lilith is a manifestation of the owl. Another aspect of hers is that of an evil spirit of storms, which means she possesses black wings that let her fly freely through the air.[1]
- Like Ugly Love (C+ Rank): Obviously whenever the topic of Lilith comes up, there is one thing that cannot be avoided, and that is the Alphabet of SirachWP (author unknown), which claims that she was the first wife of Adam. Lilith does not grasp either love or romance. As such, she cannot help but deem those concepts ugly.[1]
Noble Phantasms[]
Lilith's Noble Phantasms are Ishá Ra'á, For Lilim and For Kyrielight.[1]
Development[]
She first appeared as one of the unnamed Servants in the announcement trailer for Fate/Grand Order: Ordeal Call before making her debut in Ordeal Call IV.
Creation and Conception[]
Lilith was designed by nipi in Fate/Grand Order.[9]
Additional research for Lilith's characterization were done by Kiyomune Miwa and Molice.[10]
