LouhiWP (ロウヒWP, Rouhi?), Class Name Berserker (バーサーカー, Bāsākā?), is a Berserker-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru during the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
Originally known as the goddess of calamity and agony, LoviatarWP[1], she is the mistress of the mythical northern land of "PohjolaWP" spoken of in the national epic "KalevalaWP". As a symbol of of all calamities brought by the far north, she is said to be a mighty entity made the people of the country of Kalevala suffer by sealing the sun and the moon in a cave and evoking coldness. Her arch-nemesis is the sage-poet VäinämöinenWP. She is also the mother of the beautiful and mysterious maidens called “Maidens of Pohjola” or “Rainbow-Maidens”.[2][3]
The goddess Loviatar is the blind daughter of TuoniWP, the ruler of the land of the dead, and presides over death and disease. In Finland's ancient oral traditions, the names "Loviatar" and "Louhi" referred to the same entity. However, when Lönnrot compiled the 'Kalevala", these figures were separated into two distinct individuals. As a Berserker-class Servant, the witch Louhi embodies the version of Louhi that emerged after the compilation of the epic poems.[4]
Similarly, Pohjola, which is often portrayed as a somber land of the dead in early traditions, is depicted in the epic with a sense of northern life and community, and Louhi herself is portrayed as a dignified leader of a matriarchal society where she lives alongside her beautiful daughters. When the witch Louhi, as a Servant, curses others with powerful malice, and goes to madness with jealousy or vengeance――― the evil nature of the goddess Loviatar that lies dormant awakens and resurfaces.[4]
Appearance[]
In the "Kalevala", Louhi is described as a red-haired ugly and spiteful old woman with a hooked nose and crooked teeth. As a Servant, she manifests in the form of a young girl with green hair. While the exact reason for this is unclear, Louhi suspects this is due to the Spirit Origins of some of her daughters being mixed in with her own.[2][5]
Personality[]
She conducts herself much like that of an experienced elder. However, her youthful body influences her behavior, giving her the demeanor of a girl her age (befitting her Berserker nature). Normally calm and indifferent, she can become intensely angry, raging with her hair disheveled, or fall into extreme despair when triggered. She exudes a rich maternal aura and is not hesitant to show her deep affection. Her ultimate goal had been to recover the destroyed treasure, "SampoWP", and restore the beautiful land of Pohjola.[2]
She is highly wary of the cunning wisdom of old men due to the actions of Väinämöinen and heavily despises him.[2] Sitonai describes her as having the mentality of a younger Louhi with a Saint Graph based on more modern interpretations of her legend though her memories appear to be ones that came after her acceptance of Santa ClausWP and other Christmas traditions.[6]
Relationships[]
- Circe
- "Heeh. A hawk witch is here as well? A great witch who makes barley congee? She really wants a pigsty and lends people all kinds of wisdom? How do I say this, she's quite push- no, it's nothing, yep, hang in there. If it's barley, Louhi's specialty is brewing beer. During a wedding feast, I'd brew enough to fill a lake. You can leave preparations for a celebration to Louhi."[5]
- Santa Servants
- "These little ones are the tonttu. Fairies who help out at Louhi's residence. They work very hard, which is of great help to me. However, it is quite troubling that in Chaldea, whenever they see one of the JoulupukkiWP...those Santa imitations, they follow them and go off somewhere... Ah, the tonttu have pakkanen, the fairies of cold frost, mixed into them as well so be careful, son-in-law. Your fingers will end up turning black like salmiakki and get plucked off."[5]
- Ishtar
- "That jewel-loving goddess, Ishtar was her name, I think. She is quite decent. She fires a great Gandr since she puts her back into it. If you don't amass a solid amount of grudges on a daily basis, you won't be able to let loose such a heavy blow...it's a bit scary."[5]
- Sitonai
- "Voi...There's a Louhi inside Sitonai too? Interesting. She also has an otso...a bear. Otso are nice, aren't they. Still, you see, when I sent a bear elder I was good friends with to give that old fart a good talking-to, they ended up getting eaten by him completely which turned into a small trauma for me. Ngh, that damn Vainemoinen...!"[5]
- Astraea
- "Ooh? Astraea...so the one she is possessing is one of the so-called people of Kalewa, a daughter of Suomi. In that case, to the mistress of Pohjola, Louhi, she should be called my enemy rather than my brethren...Well, to show deference to son-in-law, if it's just drinking coffee together I can put up with that much, I guess...Of course, if she wants to start posturing as the righteous and challenges me to a fistfight, I'll take her any day, you know?"[5]
- Galatea
- '"Fueeeh! Galatea!? She's quite the big deal. An ivory statue that managed to come to life. I am reminded of that doll bride the smith Ilmarinen made out of gold and silver. Though that one remained a cold and stiff statue and even Ilmarinen's face was soaked in tears going "Why did it end up like this...". Even though he acts like that, that guy was a master of his craft that made the Sampo and, well, he was also Louhi's son-in-law once so I don't really want to say bad things about him, but...there was a time he got mad and turned my daughter into a seagull and he also went and made a collar that could capture this Louhi. He is an outrageous psycho bastard... Aah, how scary."[5]
Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Louhi is one of the three components of the High-Servant Sitonai. Her influence resulted in Sitonai's hunting dog, Shirou, taking on the appearance of a bear.[3] While the version of Louhi existing within Sitonai's Spirit Origin is described as being from a period when she was still revered as a goddess of the north and had yet to get the Sampo, the version summoned as a Berserker is not.[6]

Abilities[]
Combat[]
As a Servant, she fights on the frontlines herself as a Berserker. She seems to be heavily influenced by modern Finnish culture. Louhi's main weapons of choice are a sickle and pickaxe. Boasting immense magical power, she is a being who symbolizes various calamities and misfortunes such as cold, storms, and disease brought by the northern lands.[2]
She possesses a wide array of magical powers, including transformation, healing, weather manipulation, controlling the orbits of the sun and moon, and even the ability to create and command high-quality creatures. These Familiars include the eagle “Kokko”, the hardworking dwarves “TonttuWP”, (According to Louhi) the demon “Peikko”, and the sea monster “TurisasWP” (also known as Iku-Turso). In her Third Ascension, she transforms into a Kokko and can carry warriors on her back to battle.[2]
According to Sitonai, she would normally be summoned as either a Caster or Avenger but her current youthful Saint Graph as a Berserker is based on more modern interpretations of her legend.[6]
Sampo[]
The SampoWP (サンポWP, Sanpo?) is a Mythological Mystic Code that was forged by IlmarinenWP for Louhi in exchange for marrying one of her daughters and it is said to be the most valued treasure in all of Pohjola.[7]
While said to bring about riches and good fortune to the one who wields it, it is also is described by Leonardo da Vinci as being a sacred weapon of legendary proportions far beyond the realm of a Noble Phantasm and surmises that the effects of the Bleached Earth phenomena have only further increased the scope of its powers.[8]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Mad Enhancement (C Rank):
- Magic Resistance (A Rank):
- Territory Creation (A Rank):
- Item Construction (? Rank): Sitonai was granted this skill because of Louhi, but the skill's rank stopped at B since she doesn’t get serious much. As Louhi's current manifestation is a Berserker, she does not possess this skill and its original rank when used by her is unknown.[3]
Personal Skills[]
- Celestial Orbit Adjustment (B Rank): The ability to control the orbits of the sun and moon, bringing blessings to the earth. In the “Kalevala”, even the sun and moon are captivated by the kantele played by Väinämöinen, Louhi (who was likely jealous) captured the sun and moon and hid them in the mountains, plunging the world into darkness. This grand myth evokes the imagery of the long polar nights.[2]
- Calamities of the North (A Rank): A symbol of all the calamities that come from the northern lands, which includes extreme cold, storms, diseases, and wild beasts. In the "Kalevala", Louhi assists the blind maiden Loviatar, who came from the land of death, Tuonela, in giving birth and sent her nine sons to become plagues upon the land of Kaleva. Their names were Consumption, Colic, Gout, Rickets, Ulcers, Scab, Cancer, Plague, and the nameless ninth, who was the worst sorcerer.[2]
- Conundrum of Ruin (B Rank): The impossible challenges Louhi set for the suitors of her daughters. Countless men, including LemminkäinenWP, lost their lives attempting them. Ilmarinen, who succeeded, faced challenges such as: "Plow a field of snakes without using a plow." "Put a bridle on the wolf of Tuonela and bring back a bear." "Catch an enormous pike from the river of Tuonela without using a net." ...or something like that.[2]
Noble Phantasm[]
Louhi's Noble Phantasm is Polaris Circulation.
