Magdalena (マグダレナ?) is the mother of Gray in Lord El-Melloi II Case Files.
Profile[]
Background[]
Magdalena and her daughter are Welsh.[2] The leader of Blackmore Cemetery, Grandmother, calls Magdalena a failure who couldn't become King Arthur's body, implying she was once planned to be the vessel as Gray is now.[3]
Ten years ago, when Gray suddenly transformed to have the appearance of Artoria Pendragon, Magdalena began to worship her. Seeing in her a fervor that far surpassed that of the other villagers, and considering her closeness to Gray in general, the leader they referred to as Grandmother entrusted her with the dagger Erosion.
Gray's desire to have someone dislike her face was greatly influenced by her mother. To see her once loving mother suddenly seem to forget everything and turn to her as an icon of worship must have been a repulsive sight.[4]
Magdalena spent years dictating every detail of Gray's life, from the food she ate to the clothes she wore. Ostensibly this was to further synchronize her to Artoria's wavelength for the ritual, but secretly Magdalena was also synchronizing her own existence toward Gray's as well for a plan she had concocted with Doctor Heartless. In exchange for telling Heartless information about Blackmore Cemetery's ritual, Heartless gave Magdalena the knowledge to disrupt the ritual.[3]
Appearance[]
A woman around 35 years old. She isn't particularly pretty, but has a relaxing warmth and kindness in her face.[1]
Personality[]
In truth, Magdalena's worship of Gray's new face was a facade. In order to prevent her daughter from being overtaken by Artoria, Magdalena fought against the traditions of the village for half of her lifetime. Even if it meant her daughter would hate her, even if her daughter would be consigned to a life of lonely despair, she was prepared to do anything and everything in her power to stop that from happening.[4]
Before Gray's face changed, Magdalena would make her fudge and also taught her how to make it. Magdalena said it was the only thing she was good at.[2]
Role[]
Lord El-Melloi II Case Files[]
Two months before the start of the series, after spending years synchronizing her wavelength with Gray's and King Arthur's, as well as becoming trusted enough by the cult to be given the dagger Erosion, Magdalena put her plan into motion. She stabbed herself with a dagger so she began to slowly die, and then cut out her own soul and mind with Erosion. Due to their synchronization, the recreated mind of King Arthur - the Corpse King - was pulled into Magdalena's body and died herself. She killed herself in order to save her daughter.[3]
When the Corpse King died, Logos React began to malfunction and sucked all of the residents of Blackmore Cemetery inside of itself, including Magdalena.[5]
case. Atlas Contract[]
This arc takes place in a simulation of the village inside Logos React. A simulation of Magdalena continues to work under the cult, but at the same time the simulated Corpse King is also inhabiting Magdalena's body and being subtly influenced by her personality. When Lord El-Melloi II unmasks the Corpse King, the second Magdalena disappears.[3]
After Gray and her friends defeated Logos React's avatar the citizens were freed, including Magdalena who, while in critical condition, had not actually died yet. She was rushed to a hospital by Sister Ilumia. Gray did not visit her out of fear of what would happen if the cult found out Gray was still alive, but due to her temporary fusion with Logos React, Magdalena knew that her daughter was alive and that was enough.[5]
Abilities[]
During the events of the Atlas Contrast arc, Magdalena was entrusted the dagger Erosion by Grandmother, the village's leader.[4][3]

Gray’s mother.
Ten years ago, when Gray suddenly transformed to have the appearance of that past hero, she immediately fell to her knees in worship. Seeing in her a fervor that far surpassed that of the other villagers, and considering her closeness to Gray in general, the leader they referred to as Grandmother entrusted her with the dagger Erosion.
Gray’s desire to have someone dislike her face was greatly influenced by her mother. To see her once loving mother suddenly seem to forget everything and turn to her as an icon of worship must have been a repulsive sight.
As was described in the story, it was all a facade.
In order to prevent her daughter from being overtaken by that past hero, Magdalena fought against the traditions of the village for half of her lifetime. Even if it meant her daughter would hate her, even if her daughter would be consigned to a life of lonely despair, she was prepared to do anything and everything in her power to stop that from happening.
Furthermore, the one who taught her how to interfere with the village’s ritual was Heartless, who was studying it from the outside. In exchange for information that only an insider could possess, he taught her how to break the ritual.
Later, using the results of that research, he attempted to use Faker as a vessel to reincarnate the Divine Spirit of Iskandar.
- ↑ 5.0 5.1 Lord El-Melloi II Case Files Volume 7: case. Atlas Contract (Lower) - Epilogue
