Bazett Fraga McRemitz |
Capsule Servant |
Manannán mac LirWP (マナナン・マク・リール, Mananan Maku Rīru?), Class Name Alter Ego (アルターエゴ, Arutā Ego?), is an Alter Ego-class Pseudo-Servant in the body of Bazett Fraga McRemitz summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
As a Pseudo-Servant, the True Name on her Saint Graph is Manannán mac Lir (Bazett) (マナナン・マク・リール(バゼット)?), Bazett Fraga McRemitz acting as the host body.
Components[]
Manannán mac Lir[]
The Celtic God of the Sea and the OtherworldWP, and a powerful Magus.[1][3] A king of the fairies.[2][1] He is also the foster father of Diarmuid Ua Duibhne,[2][1] and the Sun God Lugh.[3]
He possessed many Noble Phantasms and was known as a "person who gives".[2][1] He gave many weapons to heroes from Irish mythology.[3] To Diarmuid he gave Gáe Buidhe, Moralltach, and Beagalltach.[2][1] He gave Lugh Fragarach,[1][3] and gave a weapon to Lugh's son Cú Chulainn as well.[3]
According to the immramWP, a beautiful apple-like fruit was found when the warrior Bran, whose fate crosses paths with Diarmuid's foster father Manannán, landed in one of the Otherworlds in Celtic Mythology.[5]
Within Celtic legends, it is told that Manannán's fairy wife FandWP (ファン, Fan?) had fallen in love with Cú Chulainn. When she later returned along with Cú Chulainn, asking for Manannán's permission to be with her new lover, the Fairy King used a magic cloak to conceal the two lovers' forms, erasing Cú Chulainn's memory of Fand after their affair, so Fand would not be taken again. When this story is brought up, Cú Chulainn scowls and responds only by saying "...I don't really remember all that...".[3]
Bazett Fraga McRemitz[]
The current descendent of the Fraga clan who have passed down the legendary sword Fragarach in modern day, who now acts as a Servant with Manannán as his host. Although she primarily works as a Sealing Designation Enforcer for the magus association, she also has (some common) knowledge of a Holy Grail War.[3]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Bazett Fraga McRemitz[]
In her first and second Ascensions, Bazett is the personality in control, but sometimes Manannán mac Lir takes control, when this happens her eyes' color changes to a gold tint, when this happens, her hairdo and clothes changes. She asks her Master to tell her about it if it looks good since she won't be able to look at it herself.
Bazett is a clumsy young woman who puts lots of effort in what she can do, specializing in what she is good rather than acquiring new skills. She takes her work very seriously, be it as an Enforcer or a servant. She believes that the main purpose of a servant is to fight and to excel at that, and to rely on the Master is shameful.
She enjoy playing board games.
Manannán mac Lir[]
In her third Ascension, Manannán is the personality in control.
Her voice is softer than usual tone of Bazett. Upon ascending, she changes her clothes into a white dress claiming that it was her host'sdesire, also saying that she is blushing inside. She thinks Bazett is cute.
Manannán likes to gift people and make them feel welcomed, she would like to gift Master something, but since she is currently on Bazett's body, the only thing in abundance is raw power. She recognizes that she is just a part of Manannán mac Lir's full power and is limited to what she can offer.
She likes to see people smile and absolutely hates affairs and cheating.
Relationships[]
Bazett Fraga McRemitz[]
- Cú Chulainn
- "What are you staring at? If you have something to say, then speak up, Lancer!"[6]
- A former Servant of hers, kinda weird. He seems both all tangled up and somewhat proud of her at the same.[7]
- Grigori Rasputin
- "Huh? Rasputin? Where? That's Father Kirei, no? I could recognize his calm and understanding smile anywh- Huh? He doesn't look like that to you? You think my eyes are clouded? Ahahaha, it may be so to you, Master, since you're lacking in life experiences. I can't blame you. But I'm an adult, so I know what I'm talking about."[6]
- Kirei Kotomine
- "That priest is a good person. Trust me, I'm a great judge of character!"[7]
- Amour
- "The god Amor!? There's no way the god of love would be as s hardy as her! Ugh...if it wasn't for that stupid rule forbidding allied Servants from fighting against each other, I would shoot my Fragarach into that bazooka in a heartbeat! And you know what, quit calling me Bazenan!"[6]
- Angra Mainyu
- "I feel like someone...was just behind me... Well no, it isn't unpleasant or anything. Actually it feels more like I'm being protected, or there's someone rooting for me... And I also hear this tick tocking coming from a familiar-sounding clock..."[6]
- A former Servant of hers. Though they haven’t encountered each other in Chaldea, he's likely to burst into laughter if he knew about her.
- Scáthach
- "So you are the queen of the Land of Shadows, Scáthach! I-if you don't mind, would you train me as well?"[6]
- Diarmuid Ua Duibhne
- One of her childhood heroes.[7]
- Fionn mac Cumhaill
- One of her childhood heroes.[7]
- Karna (Santa)
- "The hero of the Mahabharata is a Santa and a...boxer? I really don't understand what that's about, but it's an honor that I can have a proper bout with a real soldier. Now prepare yourself!"[6]
- Circe
- "A single bowl of this perfect nutritional meal called kykeon can provide sustenance for all!? Well I'm not complaining about its effects, but it's just that...it seems underwhelming because it doesn't feel like it would fill you up!"[6]
- Gilles de Rais (Caster) / Zhang Jue / Paracelsus von Hohenheim / Chen Gong / Avicebron / Mephistopheles
- "There appears to be a handful of dangerous mages in Chaldea. There's no way I would go and send them to the "bottom of the bridge," but I won't hesitate to act if something happens."[6]
- Casters who would likely be sealing designation targets
- "I've got a hankering..."[7]
Manannán mac Lir[]
- Cú Chulainn
- "Oh hello, Cú Chulainn. Is there something that you want? I'm willing to give you anything. ...Other than a wife. Hahaha, just a bit of dark humor there."[6]
- He is both the son of Lugh and a member of his own family to whom he has gifted many divine artifacts... At the same time, he's also the hero who earned his wife’s heart, so they relationship is quite complicated.
- Fergus mac Róich
- "Love is a wonderful thing, and I shall support you in it. But listen well, Fergus mac Roich. Stay away from other peoples' wives."[6]
- Medb
- "What is it, Medb? Why are you glaring at me? What's that? I'm pissing you off because it looks like something happened between me and Cú? Well actually, I was also wondering about that too. Aside from the issue with my wife, I also feel like something happened with Bazett...but she is claiming she doesn't remember anything at all. If it's true, I will allow you to hold a girls' night out and interrogate her!"[6]
- Diarmuid Ua Duibhne
- "Hello, Diarmuid Ua Duibhne. How is your spear working out for you? I just have one tip for you... I don't think stealing someone else's significant other is a good idea."[6]
- Mordred
- "A helmet that conceals the secret of your pedigree... That seems to be quite the formidable magical tool, but that's not a good way to describe it. It really is bad."[6]
Role[]
Fate/Grand Order[]
Valentine's Day 2022: Manannán Souvenir Valentine ~The Chocolate Tree and The Goddess' Choice~[]
Abilities[]
In combat, Manannán uses Fragarach as her primary weapon. In her 1st and 2nd ascensions, Manannán primarily attacks via punches in conjunction with Fragarach, as well as activate lesser projectile attack and spells by punching them. In her 3rd ascension, Manannán primarily attacks with refined magical attacks in conjunction with her sword Fragarach and mount Aonbharr. It can take on a much longer, more detailed version of the blade, the head of a metal warhammer that can be dropped or punched from above to crush enemies and crater the ground with its weight. It can project three short blades at different points of the ball at once so it can act as a spinning projectile, or act in parallel with multiple Fragarachs to act like a buzzsaw. It can project thick spikes across almost the entirety of its surface in order to crush and impale its target like a spiked-mace, especially when used with other Fragarachs at once to surround an opponent from all sides. It can morph into a sharp-edged small shield to protect against attacks defensively, and finally it can transform into a silvery javelin when a more powerful projectile than the sword form is needed, with the blade becoming the oversized-head and a thin shaft growing from the opposite end. The energy emitted by Fragarach can also be used directly to attack enemies with magical beams of blue light.[8]
Manannán claims that Fragarach, being both a sword and a concept, lacks a definitive form and has other forms as well, but the Servant container limits the extent to which she can use them compared to her full self.[4]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Magic Resistance (B Rank): Negates spells that require three verses or fewer to cast. Even grand spells or curse rituals struggle to harm her with magecraft. Originally rated as A Rank, its current manifestation in a deteriorated vessel has lowered its rank.[7]
- Riding (A Rank): She masterfully handles any mount, except for phantasmal and divine beasts. Manannán was renowned for his collection of magical mounts, which included a mystical ship and a majestic white steed.[7]
- Divinity (B Rank): Manannán holds divine attributes as the God of Sea, Fae King, and Ruler of the Underworld, but his current status as a Pseudo-Servant has slightly lowered his rank.[7]
- God's Holder (EX Rank): The Lore Carrier. This skill sublimates the nature of Manannán’s current host, Bazett Fraga MacRemitz, who hails from a storied bloodline that has carried the Noble Phantasm Fragarach down to the present day.[7]
Personal Skills[]
- Sealing Designation Enforcer (A Rank): An anti-magus combat ability engrained into Bazett Fraga McRemitz herself. This skill is a fusion of abilities such as hand-to-hand skills, magecraft, and mental abilities that help actualize the association's sealing orders against dangerous magus.[3]
- Rune of the Sea God (EX Rank): Rune magecraft used by Bazett via the Sea God Manannán's own power. While being housed in this Servant's Saint Graph, Manannán still possesses divinity. Normally this should provide more power than it does and potentially allow the utilization of diverse magecraft, but due to Bazett having poor abilities in magecraft, all it can wind up doing is boosting her intrinsic ability to use magecraft for basic uses. Which is also to say that her clumsiness is channeled purely. Instead of utilizing the myriad powers of the Sea God, she manifests it in ridiculously simple ways (such as strengthening her fists), and focuses on single points. As a result of losing its innate versatility, she instead creates terrifying powers of destruction.[3]
- Succession of the Red Branch (B Rank): Comprising a league of distinguished warriors, the Knights of the Red Branch was once regarded as the greatest knightly order in all of Ireland. Though Bazett is obviously not a knight but a mage with Celtic roots, there was once a time when a great hero referred to her as a "modern-day Red Branch Knight"... or something to that effect.[7]
Noble Phantasm[]
Manannán mac Lir's Noble Phantasms are Fragarach and Fragarach Aonbharr. Due to being now also a Pseudo-Servant for Manannan, Bazett can now utilize Fragarach for more basic purposes.[3]
Manannán possessed many Noble Phantasms which he gave to irish heroes, such as the demonic spear Gáe Buidhe[2] and the demonic swords Moralltach and Beagalltach, and was a being who presents for others. At the moment of its True Name Release, Moralltach becomes three blades – resembling even the “legs of the god Manannán” that were spoken of in legends – and cuts the opponent to pieces.[1] He has a magic cloak that he used to erase Cú Chulainn's memory of Manannán's wife Fand after their affair.[3]
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Manannán mac Lir was designed and illustrated by Hayashi Kewi in Fate/Grand Order. Her scenario writer is Hazuki Minase in Fate/Grand Order.[7]
The BGM of her Noble Phantasm in Fate/Grand Order is a remixed version of the Fate/hollow ataraxia theme song "hollow" by rhu.
Comment from Illustrator[]
The first ascension is a sleek modern knight's suit, the second is a magical battlesuit, and the third is a stunning pearl full-skirted gown. The second one was probably the trickiest of the three. But I think I ended up with a pretty solid result, in trying to make it stand out from other Celtic designs while keeping it stylish, thanks to all of Mr. Takeuchi's corrections. (Hayashi Kewi)[7]
