MandricardoWP (マンドリカルド, Mandorikarudo?), Class Name Rider (ライダー, Raidā?), is a Rider-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile[]
Identity[]
The rival of Rodomonte in the Italian epic Orlando FuriosoWP, and an enemy of the Twelve Paladins of Charlemagne, but overall a minor character in the stories.[2]
A long time ago I was a king and an adventurer! From my adventures I was able to get my hands on the armor of Hector, from that point on I was able to continue my quest in search of Durandal while having a blast! Then…. from the battles over Durandal and everything else that happened after, you now see the Mandricardo in front of you that is jaded and now sees the world for what it is, fragile. Nice to meet ya...
Mandricardo stole Durandal after Roland discarded it. But even with both Durandal and Hector's armor, he was unable to defeat Ruggiero.
Appearance[]
Mandricardo is physically in his thirties.[3]
Personality[]
Mandricardo is mentally in his thirties.[3]
I’m the kind of person that has trouble going to restaurants when I remember the feeling of ordering.
A young man with a part of him being a little jaded about the world.
I understand that I’m not so important and just another minor player in the grand scheme of things, so there are a lot of times where I end up mocking myself. In other words, I’m the type who worries about what will happen if I fail, I’m extremely cautious and wary of things, and I do things half-heartedly.
When I was alive, I thought of myself as the greatest in the world and went around like I owned it. However, after not being able to beat Bradamante’s lover Ruggiero even though I had Hector’s armor and Durandal, I was utterly crushed by the shock it seems. So, here I am with my attitude completely lacking of confidence to serve my master.
Here’s a guy that is worried out of his mind about the necessity of communication for the Holy Grail War. Well at least when it comes to battle all of this can become a source of courage for me, so I do actually have a bit of confidence in reality.
Relationships[]
- Hector
- "He-Hector! The great hero of Troy’s war and of the Nine Worthies, the Number One Hector that humanity and I admire is here?! Kaaah! Chaldea’s outta this world! Ah, is it bad to ask him for an autograph, Master?"[5]
- <Mandricardo almost died because Senpai noticed him.>[4]
- Roland
- “Now, listen carefully, Roland. I am Mandricardo, but I’m not the same person I was when we first met. So if you remember me proclaiming, “Hahahaha! Durendal is a sword worthy of me, Mandricardo!” followed by a loud roar of laughter, that never happened. ‘Cause I’ve buried my past in the dark, yep.”[4]
- Astolfo / Astolfo (Saber)
- "Ah, Charlemagne’s Twelve Paladins. They pass themselves as optimistic mighty warriors worth ten thousand, but no wait. ...Man? Is that, a man...? Roland has it nice, they’re livin’ in the future"[5]
- Bradamante
- "Whoa... That “Montjoie” voice’s Bradamante. That means Ruggiero’s near... Not? Then nice. Good grief"[5]
- “I’m a bit uncomfortable around her. Actually, isn’t she a stronger paladin than Ruggiero?”[4]
- Other Paladins of Charlemagne
- “You can definitely count on them, but... They kinda place higher on the eccentricity scale... If you get what I mean…”[4]
- Atlantis Argonauts
- “What? You want us to eat together? Sure, why not? Don’t mind if I take the seat at the end of the table then. ...Erm, how did I end up being seated in the middle? And right next to Hector!? Wait, he’s the guest of honor!?”[4]

Abilities[]
Despite not being as famous as Sherlock Holmes, Leonardo da Vinci, and Bartholomew Roberts, Mandricardo is known for fighting the Twelve Paladins of Charlemagne.[6] He was just a supporting character in Charlemagne's legend, and thus, he was just strong enough to make the battle compelling. Mandricardo states he could never measure up to the likes of Achilles or Heracles. He doesn't think he could even beat Ruggiero, no matter how many times he fought him.[10] This is because Ruggiero already defeated him when they were alive. Despite Mandricardo wielding Hector's armor, and his sword, Durandal, at the time, he still couldn't defeat Ruggiero.[2][10] Even though Ruggiero was "a hell of a hero," who wielded a Demonic Sword, there was no doubt that Mandricardo's weapon was better.[10] On the other hand, Bradamante regards Mandricardo as a powerful warrior-king who went toe-to-toe with Ruggiero and Roland. She says that he was a fearsome rival to the Twelve Paladins of Charlemagne in every sense of the word.[13]
As a Heroic Spirit, Mandricardo claims he is supposed to be one of the greatest Sabers ever.[6] If he had materialized as a Saber, then he might have been able to bring Durandal with him. However, he also considers the possibility of him not actually having it, since he just picked it up when Roland happened to leave it behind. Since he doesn't have any memory of wielding that sword since becoming a Servant, he worries that the Throne of Heroes might still not see him as a real hero.[7] The only reason Mandricardo qualifies for the Rider class is that he stole a horse more famous than himself, Brigliadoro. If it wasn't for that story, he might never have been summoned at all.[10] As a Rider, Mandricardo is a C rank servant. After seeing him in action, Ritsuka Fujimaru and Mash Kyrielight state that he is really strong. After all, Mandricardo is famous for taking on the entire French army with only three allies.[6] Mandricardo says he can't defeat someone on the level of Odysseus, Poseidon, or Artemis.[7]
Combat[]
In life, Mandricardo found Hector's armor, and he made a vow that until he found the real Durandal he would never wield another sword for as long as he lived.[2][8] Although he ended up finding and wielding the real weapon when Roland left it behind,[10] as a Rider-class Servant, Mandricardo no longer has it. Instead, he wields a plain old wooden sword with nothing special or historic about it. Despite this being the only weapon he's got, he says it is still enough to take out a hundred soldiers.[7] Because the only famous club wielders are Miyamoto Musashi and Heracles, when Ritsuka Fujimaru first met Mandricardo, he considered the possibility of Mandricardo being Heracles Lily.[6] His weapon is shown as a yellow katana (possibly a boken) with chains around the grip and pommel, exchanged in his third ascension for a wooden longsword with sharpened rocks embedded within the blade. He is also shown using the shield on his back as a weapon, striking the enemy with it while charged with energy or throwing it as a spinning blade, as well as showing mounted combat attacks as befitting his Class.
As a Rider, Mandricardo is nothing compared to the real first-rate heroes. He can't stand back up if his Achilles tendon is severed or he is stabbed in the heart. He can't keep protecting an entire city as its political leader, general, strategist, and warrior all rolled into one. He could never complete all of the Twelve Labors on his own. He can't even gather a bunch of heroes onto a single ship for an epic journey. The best he can manage is hunting Demonic Beasts with his club.[6]
In the Atlantic Lostbelt, Mandricardo takes Hephaestus Klironomia.[9] Despite the Nanomachines increasing his power, his attacks failed against Chiron.[11]
Skills[]
Class Skills[]
- Riding (B Rank): The ability to ride mounts. Mandricardo is capable of riding most mounts except for Phantasmal Species, demonic beasts or Divine beasts.[4] Despite Mandricardo technically being a Rider, he can't keep his horse around all the time, and thus, he doesn't actually have anything to ride on. He has a horse, but he can only use him when he is fighting.[6]
- Magic Resistance (C Rank): Nullifies Magecraft activated with a two-verse chant or less. His skill is incapable of blocking Greater Magecraft or Rituals.[4]
Personal Skills[]
- Armor of the Nine Worthies (A Rank): A skill that sublimated from the legend of Mandricardo wearing Hector's armor. The numerous epic tales that revolve around Hector reinforce Mandricardo's body, and the armor's overwhelming legendary power manifests as artificial Charisma.[2][4]
- The Instant Before the Strike (C→C+++ Rank (Upgrade)): On the verge of death, this skill enables Mandricardo to unleash an all-out strike. It is close to but not the same as Battle Continuation in the sense that he is guaranteed to perish after landing a strike. The higher the rank, the greater the damage. At rank C, one full-power strike can be unleashed at just the right measure.[4]
- Brigliadoro's Neigh (A Rank): A skill that sublimated from the legend of Mandricardo stealing and breaking in the famed steed. Mobility, attack power, and reputation rise. But in return, he becomes an even more appealing target for his enemies. Additionally, this skill will enable him to steal and ride any mount, even Demonic Beasts, as long as they are C rank or lower.[2][4]
Noble Phantasms[]
Mandricardo's main Noble Phantasm is Serment de Durandal. With it, any weapon Mandricardo wields gains the power of Durandal itself.[2] He used it to shield Ritsuka Fujimaru's party from Chiron's Antares Snipe. His wooden sword was destroyed in the process. Even in this state, he could use it once again to fire his Noble Phantasm and give Ritsuka and the others an opening to escape.[11]
His second Noble Phantasm is Rêve de Durandal. Mandricardo empowered by Hephaestus Klironomia used it to block Artemis's Shooting Star Ortygia. As soon as their Noble Phantasms clashed, he was struck blind almost instantly. Then went his sense of touch barely a second later. His organs shut down. His ears bled as he went deaf. The light from her arrow seared his skin, bursting the blood vessels beneath. Nevertheless, her blast never reached Ritsuka Fujimaru or his companions. Mandricardo died protecting his friend.[12]
Development[]
Creation and Conception[]
Mandricardo was designed by Ginka in Fate/Grand Order. His scenario writer is Yuuichirou Higashide in Fate/Grand Order.[4]
Comment from Artist[]
"Appearance-wise, I was instructed to draw him as a “cynical, loner, small-time punk”. With a wooden sword in his hand, he gave me the impression of an aggressive lone wolf. It didn’t help that his eyes looked intimidating, too... Contrary to my initial expectations, he turned out to be friend shaped! My friend!!!! Adding comedic facial expressions made him even more animated. I am particularly fond of his uneven bangs!" (Ginka)[4]
